The 29 Best Restaurants in Columbus, Ohio | Eater

"Parked on a corner of High Street, Los Agavez Taqueria offers a range of Mexican street food. There are a bunch of different tacos, tortas, and huaraches, but most people come by the food truck for the tangy, sweet birria, which is layered with a thick helping of cheese on crispy, stew-battered tortillas." - Angela Lee

We ordered the birria tacos and they were AMAZING! Filled with ALOT of meat and the flavor was so so good. Not greasy & everything tasted so fresh. Highly highly recommend!

Vincent

Google
Decent tacos, solid, but pricey. I prefer La Poblanita close by. 2 carne asada tacos was $8.50 with 2 sauces. There are better taco trucks nearby, but the location is quite convenient

Google
Amazing taste and order was given quickly! Would highly recommend eating here and enjoying their birria tacos!

Another Day Another Taco

Google
I have been a regular since I discovered this truck in 2020. If I could afford to eat here everyday I would. The Pastor and unique Salsa Verde complement each other and leave you questioning if it is ok to just drink the salsa from the little plastic cup… it’s ok no one is looking. The Birria Tacos are a culinary masterpiece. With the consommé or without these tacos will have you wishing you would have ordered more after the last bite. The consommé is a meal by it self with huge chunks of meat waiting to be fished out. Everything this truck sells is delicious but the Pastor and Birria are what they are known for. So if you come and get a chicken taco and its “dry” or a veggie burrito and you are disappointed in the black bean count, there is no need to complain and leave a 1star review. That’s like giving a Mexican restaurant 1 star because their hamburger sucks. They don’t answer the phone because they are busy slinging tacos out the window. I love the fact they serve the people who show up and don’t put them on hold to answer the phone. People at the window get priority over the grubhub generation.

Google
Stopped in to try the carne asada tacos and birria which were incredible. I was pleasantly surprised by the seating are and quality of food and service. Nice spot for authentic Mexican food!

Google
Not for me. Nothing wrong with food just not for me. First time I've had Birrua Tacos and was really anticipating something new and delicious. Meat filling was plentiful but oddly tasteless while the taco which is fried in the fat from the meat was more flavorful. I tried but threw it away after half a taco. People sitting in the patio area seemed to enjoy their food. So... just not for me.

Google
If you are a FOODIE and have been wanting Birria tacos, you have to come here! I drove two hours to get these tacos because I've been wanting Birria bad and they were worth the drive. Crispy shell, rich beef flavor, fresh onions and cilantro and the consomme is on point. Every bite was tasty, not bland like other places in Ohio, you can actually taste the spices. This is Authentic Tijauana style red Birria tacos like you see with food bloggers on IG. The staff was super friendly. The best days to go are Thurs-Sat when the Birria is available all day. Get there early because they sell out fast.

Google
These Birria tacos definitely meet the hype. Not too bad price wise either, I paid $10 for 3 tacos. My friend got a burrito which comes with chips and queso, also $10. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already! For being on high street, there is a relatively quiet environment with some benches to eat at. Only waited 10-15 mins. Gotta get the green sauce too, it's so good. Great service as well. 5 stars!

Yelp
I am disappointed in myself for just now trying this place ... but I'll forgive myself because now I KNOW! Had Al Pastor, Asada & Chorizo taco with a side of beans and a Mexican Coke and it was PHENOMENAL! I will be back for sure ...

Yelp
Delicious. Yum! This little taco truck is making a big name for itself. It made national news for being one of the best tacos. This taco truck's top seller is not even on the menu: a succulent, slow-cooked Tijuana-style birria taco. Yet this singular dish landed the family-owned spot on Yelp's 2022 list of Top 100 Taco Spots in the US. This highly rated taco features "tender" meat, "crispy, perfect" tortillas, and "rich and flavorful" consomé. Street-style al pastor and carne asada tacos are also popular. I had been told the famous taco was only available on the weekends, but I got mine on a Monday, so they may have changed their policy. The service was friendly and they even have an umbrella eating area next to the truck. The atmosphere is simple but they really deliver on taste.

Yelp
Oh snap! I checked out Los Agavez on Taco Tuesday which happened to be National Taco Day. YelpCbus highlighted this place and I was excited to go. The birría tacos with consomme were highly flavorful. The taco shells were soft, but just hard enough to dip into and soak up the consomme. The consomme itself was perfect on it's own and I finished it up with a spoon. Yum! The manager was extremely pleasant and helpful as I decided what to order. His service was excellent and I hope to take my wife and daughter there soon. The ambience was wonderful. Is the open-mall-cafeteria style popular here in Ohio? We didn't have anything like this in Florida and I love it.

Yelp
I went to the location at the little grand. The staff was very friendly and took my order promtly. I got 3 birria tacos, hot sauce and a side of sour cream. Sadly I didn't get the hot sauce but the tacos were so good and the consumme had a lot of flavor. Two tacos would have been more than plenty for me. They're filled. I will return
google avatar

Yelp
I love food trucks and I love tacos, and Los Agaves definitely met my expectations! I tried 3 tacos today and enjoyed all of them. The chorizo is pretty spicy. The al pastor comes with a thin slice of pineapple and was by far the best taco of the ones I tried. The horchata is a decent size and very sweet. The service was very friendly and quick, the prices very fair for the quality. I also loved the little seating area with the umbrellas!
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The hype is real. Birria tacos are on weekends only. As others have said, check the weekend specials on their socials. Birria tacos can be ordered as 3 or 5 tacos. GO. That is all.

Lily L.

Yelp
I've tried this place a couple of times and the steak they use for the asada tacos just doesn't taste right. I think it's just low quality. Not worth it.
google avatar

Max R.

Yelp
Tried the new location in Grandview. Maybe it wasn't as good as the food truck, IDK. Either way, I ordered 3 Birria Tacos with their consumme- $15 plus tax and tip. You get 3 tiny tacos and a giant cup or broth. I could have used half or a quarter of the dipping juice, in fact it didn't add anything to the experience of the tacos because it was so bland. It ended up just making the tacos wet and harder to eat. I thought the food was as very underwhelming, almost flavorless. I asked if it came with chips? No... $3 more. It would have been a really nice touch to include a few chips if you're getting a meal, especially when the tacos are tiny. Service is also meh, they forgot to put my hot sauce on my tray, it's the little details that get repeat customers not mediocre service or mediocre food. I will stick with Los Guachos, better prices and more tasty food.

Yelp
First things first this place is really tasty, and the service is fantastic. But other than that, I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I usually have a good idea when I'm done eating as to whether it was a really good or really bad experience. This was a good experience, although if the flavor matched the presentation, it would knock your socks off. With that being said visually it's 10 out of 10 and you're pretty sure it's going to be the most flavorful thing you've ever eaten. Although taste is 5 out of 10. The birria sauce is lacking some flavor again visually it looks like it's going to be the most flavorful thing you've eaten in your life but the taste is not that way after adding the lime and hot sauce per their order it definitely kicks a flavor from a 5 to a 6 1/2 or 7 but it's still lacking something. I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm new to birria tacos so maybe this is a normal thing and I'm expecting to get flavor I shouldn't be. Rice and beans are typical Mexican rice and beans with all that being said it sounds like I'm dogging them but trust me when I say I had no problems eating every bit of it. It's definitely not bad at all. One thing thats not a huge deal but confusing the birria sauce they give you a cup and after pouring it over everything and dipping in it I may have used 25% of it. Overall will I ever be back? If I'm in the area but if the flavor matched the looks I would drive distance to come back.

Yelp
Decent food truck located off high street. There are some tables and benches behind the truck you can sit at if the weather permits. Carne asada tacos are $3 each.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Love love the food here so authentic reminds me of San Diego. The street tacos are the bomb.
google avatar

Bryan G.

Yelp
Great family business with the best tacos and horchata. The food is great and with a stop.
google avatar

Hailey D.

Yelp
Best Mexican food truck around! I've been going to Los Agavez for 5+ years and the food is always fresh and delicious. They pay attention to detail and each order is carefully prepared. The horchata is also insanely good! Great people & I always feel good supporting their business.
google avatar

Pato I.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went to eat after she lost her purse and this really helped her get over it. I got a variety of tacos, while she got a torta. Both meals were very good. They even had a few tables right next to the truck so we could enjoy the meal fresh instead of making a mess in my car or eating it cold in my house. Definitely recommend trying it out.
google avatar

Tom P.

Yelp
Let's start by saying if your unsure of food trucks put that aside. This is by far the best Birria tacos I have had in Columbus. They only have them on Thursday thru Saturday until sold out, so get here early. The Consomme broth is so delicious I end up drinking what was left. This had chunks of meat in it, was a very rich tasting dipping broth. So when you go and they ask if you want it, You do! Seating is very limited, at the truck and a couple benches to sit on. While I was there several customer ordered to go.
google avatar

Simone B.

Yelp
If you know me then you know I'm addicted to tacos. I'm always looking for new places to try which led me to Los Agavez. I can't believe it took me so long to get here, I had been missing out all this time. Los Agavez tacos are out of this world. Originally I went for the birria but have since tried out some of the regular taco options as well as the rice and beans. I haven't had a single bad item yet. These are seriously the best birria tacos in Columbus, they stay crispy, the consome is rich and flavorful, and the salsas are the perfect addition. I dream about their birria tacos (which you can only get Thurs-Sat). All I can say is if you haven't been, go ASAP.
google avatar

Valentyn R.

Yelp
I read on the 614 Now that Yelp rated Los Agavez Taqueria food truck as the 63th out of 100 best taco spots IN THE COUNTRY. That's insanely impressive! I absolutely had to go try! When we arrived, they had a sign up that they were totally out of their Birria which is mainly what I love trying at taco places and food trucks! On the other hand, I'm glad they're getting so much business that they're running out of things! We still wanted to get something from them to support, so I ordered the Torta and their homemade pineapple juice (SO GOOD) and my wife ordered the Burrito. My torta was delicious and the meat had a lot of flavor. We definitely will return for their tacos next time! They deserve the recognition and the business!
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
I've passed by this truck on High Street hundreds of times and I'm glad I finally stopped for Birria. It's not on their posted menu but it's a hot item: Birria tacos + the broth for dipping which they call consumme. For $13 you get 3 tacos. What a deal and they're delicious. I thought it would be awkward dipping them (think like a French dip sandwich) but the melty cheese on top keeps them contained as you dip into the broth. Definitely give this unassuming truck a try if you're in Clintonville!

Maddy E.

Yelp
Always consistency and care about the food quality. I highly recommend this family owned business, BEST BIRRIA tacos and Al PASTOR ! Always friendly! The just recently opened their first brick and mortar in Grandview I'll continue support them wherever they go!
google avatar

Hadley B.

Yelp
Amazing food. THE best family owns this truck. Elvia and her husband cook up the best burritos, quesadillas, and birria in the city. We have been coming here for years and are never disappointed.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Yet another review adding to the chorus of get the birria tacos! Fairly priced, delicious, and loaded with meat! Consommé had great flavor, I wish I had some tortilla chips to dunk in the leftover. I definitely look forward to trying the rest of their menu as well!
google avatar

Bethany K.

Yelp
I came here specifically for the birria tacos, and was so very excited to find this taco truck. I am very late to writing this review.. so, at the time I was there birria tacos aren't on the menu as they are only offered on the weekends. There was a steady stream of patrons ordering and/or picking up food. So, preorder or expect a wait. We ordered birria tacos (duh), and a torta... we took our food to a local park to enjoy. Everything was so very fresh and delicious - although, I did expect (hope) that the tacos would have been crunchier. However, the broth and meat had a flavor profile that made my tastebuds dance. Whilst I enjoyed the meal, I haven't returned... but I will keep it in the roster as needed.
google avatar

Jordan G.

Yelp
This taco truck has the best Mexican in Clintonville and possibly in the city. The food is simple, affordable, and incredibly flavorful. I generally get the chicken burrito, but the tacos are delicious as well. You may have to wait for your food, but they have a nice little seating area behind the truck.
google avatar

Briana S.

Yelp
I went to this taco truck last week with my roommates and it was delicious. The truck is in a parking lot so there should be parking. When we arrived there were a couple people in front of us and the lady said it was going to be a 40 minute wait. When we were deciding if we should stay or not, someone who already ordered said it was worth the wait and they were right. My birria tacos were delicious and full of meat. The consommé was also full of flavor. I will definitely be going back to try more things on their menu. If you end up going I think it's busier on the weekends because that's when they have birria so get there about 30 mins earlier than when you want to eat!
google avatar

Claire R.

Yelp
Great taco truck!! We ordered our food and had about a 45 minute wait to get it. Once getting it, we knew it was worth the wait. The tacos were loaded with meat and cheese, and the sauce was amazing. The price was very fair. I will definitely be returning!

Allison B.

Yelp
Hands down the best birria tacos I've ever had. Very authentic tasting and made fresh to order! I recommend trying their mild and hot sauces too! For $14 I got 3 birria tacos with consume, which was filling! My husband got the happy agave burrito which was also delicious and packed with flavor! 10/10
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
Okay, the Birria Tacos were sold out, but let me tell you... The Happy Agave Burrito... MUY DELICIOSO! The authentic taste of the marinated pastor, mozzarella cheese, beans, rice, and guacamole made me a happy camper. Friendly staff, authentic food, and the flavors are so good! Got a Jarritos Lime drink to go with it making this sunny Saturday complete. I just put in the order and waited in my car. It was such a nice day! So cute the lettuce garnish and a slice of tomato that come with this huge meal! I was super good after consuming it! 5 stars for a great first impression!

Yelp
Los Agavez has been on my list for months. Last Friday I finally decided to give them a try as I was in the area. The food truck is usually located in N high street. It's run by a very sweet lady who was soo welcoming. They did have a wait time of about 45 mins as it was rush hour and they several orders ahead of me, quite understandable. I ordered the Birria Tacos- lamb and beef tacos with Con-some on the side. I also got some Al pastor tacos as they are known for them as well. Birria Tacos were bomb and meaty. Cheese was nice and melted. Consome was so flavorful with the right kick to it perfect dipping sauce for the tacos. Best Birria Tacos in Cbus for sure!!! Al Pastor was very seasoned and cooked to perfection. What makes it a winner was the price point. They definitely priced lower than some places in Cbus. I will definitely be visiting this place more often !
google avatar

Karen W.

Yelp
There appears to be a constant flow of customers getting food from this food truck. The lady who works at this place was very knowledgeable about the menu items. This food truck is located at the corner parking lot that shares with a gas station. It is definitely not temporary food cart because there is a permanent sign on the parking lot wall. Our party of four shared a plate of happy agave burrito, 2 tacos of each meat (total of 8 tacos) and , alambre. I think the portion size was just right. Just note that they increased the pricing of every item by about $1. Their menu on the trunk doesn't reflect the pricing. They accept credit card without extra surcharge which is nice. All in all, the food was good. I like the spicy sauce which has a good kick but was not that spicy. The non-spicy sauce may be cilantro based. My least favorite item was probably the burrito.
google avatar

Gene W.

Yelp
Felt like eating mexican food and yelpers chose this food truck as a high-ranker in Columbus so we ordered a few items. Conveniently located in a convenience store parking lot just north of the University, easy to find and plenty of parking while you wait for your food. They also give you small "beepers" so you can wait in your car until the order is ready.....great idea. We ordered (for 4 people), 1 pastor burrito, 1 steak plate (alhambre), and 8 tacos (2 each of chorizo, pastor, pollo, and asada). While flavors were excellent all around (good spice level, good saltiness), the weakest item was the burrito (wish it were bigger and looked meh), while the tacos shined. A spicy sauce was also provided on the side if you wanted to level up the heat even more. The meats melded nicely with the cheese and veggies, and 3 bites later, taco gone! Can't go wrong with any of the meat choices but if you're worried about drier meat, stick with pastor or chorizo since the pieces were cut small. The refried beans and rice on plate were standard issue. The staff was super friendly and the wait was about 10 minutes. Due to pandemic, shortages, etc., prices have been hiked about 15% across the board. Still, decent amount of tasty chow for 4 for under $50.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
THIS is the place to be for birria tacos. The hype is so real and it is here that you can sample some of it for yourself. Order one, order 3, or order 6 (hey no shame) tacos all for yourself and find yourself wanting to come back for more.
google avatar

Crystal P.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this spot, and the tacos birria special brought me here. If you haven't tried, these, I actually don't know anywhere else that has this dish. They post their weekend specials on their Instagram. Once you put your order in, they'll give you a super accurate estimate of how long it will take for your order to be ready. I've gone twice during the weekend and my wait time varies between 15-35 minutes. They are seriously so kind and the food is worth it to wait. Their traditional tacos are really flavorful and their spicy and mild sauces a little different than other sauces you're used to. The spicy is a little more smoky? Their chorizo is really good, not super fine and packed with smokiness. If your Spanish is as rusty as mine, there is a description in English under each dish.

Roxanne B.

Yelp
Best barria tacos in town! Friendly and fast service at a reasonable price. You can sit at a table and eat or grab and go. So good!!!
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for good tacos and this taco truck exceeded my expectations. The service was exceptional and the food came out quickly! While I was a little too late to get my hands on their birria tacos, they did have some consommé left and I was able to snag a cup to go with my regular tacos. I got a cup of consommé, three chicken tacos, and a side of rice for $12. I thought that was a pretty great price for all of the food I got! I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for great tacos!
google avatar

Shawn M.

Yelp
Los Agavez Taqueria is a hidden gem. The food is packed with so much flavor and quality ingredients. I had the huarache, which was excellent! The carne asada was cooked perfectly with amazing seasonings. The portions are huge and the price is great. I loved everything, but the birria tacos with the consume were amazing. The birria was so tender and flavorful and the taco was made perfectly with the cheese melted. The consume tasted so flavorful. The staff were super friendly and I will be back regularly to try more amazing foods!
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Just had THE BEST BIRRIA TACOS EVER! Omg. Absolutely delicious! Shell was crispy perfect, beef tender and portion was just right and OMG the consume was outstanding! At Ohio State until Sunday. Will be back multiple times!
google avatar

Yelp
I've always wanted to try birria, but have honestly had a lot of difficulty with trying to find it. I initially tried to go to 2 Brothers Tacos, but they were closed early, so I decided to shift gears and come here instead. I am so glad that this was my first birria experience. In a few words? It was...pure magic. The only way I can describe this flavor experience is by saying that this is the food version of Keanu Reeves riding a unicorn as he descends from heaven after slaying some sort of mythical dragon. These damn birria tacos were absolute foodie bliss and were honestly one of the absolute best things I have ever eaten in my entire life. The asada had great flavor as well, as did the al pastor. I really loved them both, and they were absolutely on par with the street tacos I used to have in Texas. I didn't care for the chorizo, but I wanted to try several things for that exact reason. I did get a few shady pieces of meat in the asada and birria, but that's okay, because you know what you're in for when it comes to street food from an authentic taco truck. If you have a low heat tolerance, be careful with the red salsa (I loved it, but I have a high heat tolerance)! The green salsa was a delight. Overall, this place was amazing. The woman that took my order was also incredibly friendly (and easy to talk to, for those of you who get nervous). They also do take credit cards, so you don't need to bring cash. Definitely swing by here for legit street tacos, and be sure to try the birria! I will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Michael U.

Yelp
best tacos ever must stop everything your doing because this taco spot is the spot you aint never had a taco like this amazing service i leave with a smile on my face every time this is the real deal hollyfield
google avatar

Jeremy Q.

Yelp
I only just tried birria tacos for the first time this year and HOLY MOLY WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! Crispy tortillas loaded with meat and cheese, topped with cilantro and onion with your choice of hot sauce. All dipped into that DELICIOUS (also very very hot lol) consommé! Do yourself a favor and get down to Los Agavez ASAP to get some. They're pretty hefty so I feel like 2 birria tacos is enough for me. I also think they only do birria on the weekends so make sure to check before making the trek!

Diedra L.

Yelp
I saw the birria tacos on Instagram and decided to give this business a try. Birria was not on the menu, but item is available. Delicious birriria taco packed with meat. Tender, and well seasoned. Loved the customer service.
google avatar

Maddy L.

Yelp
This place is the absolute bomb. my girlfriend, and I go here at least once a week and usually end up getting the biria tacos and a happy agave burrito. The service is absolutely amazing, all the staff are so kind and patient. I tell all my friends about this place because it's because it is truly so good, it's authentic Mexican, it's fresh and it's consistent!! The meat selection and hot sauces are my favorite. I'm craving it right now . Keep it up guys. A Clintonville Diamond !!!!
google avatar

Elisa N.

Yelp
It's easy to miss as your riding down High Street, but don't ignore this place. Honestly, the best birria tacos I've had outside of L.A. Tacos grilled til they're crunchy. Overstuffed with shredded beef, cheese, onion and cilantro. Served with a delicious and savory consommé. Homemade hot sauces on request. It's a good thing for me they're only available on the weekend.

Su Y.

Yelp
0/0. I don't know if I came on the wrong day but the birria tacos was very hard and the consommé so salty. I also got a chicken burrito and they only put beans and rice and 2 pieces of chicken. I wasted about 40$ on this to be very disappointed
google avatar

Jane L.

Yelp
This is a taco truck in the parking lot of a convenience store in Clintonville. I heard about them when looking up birria tacos and had to try them out! I went with my bf hoping to get their birria tacos on Saturday but we got there late and missed them! No problem, we figured we would try the regular tacos instead. We got 3 tacos each: beef, chicken and al pastor. We took them home and enjoyed with some Coronas and chips/salsa. The beef was subpar, I wouldn't get again. Chicken was pretty good, it was juicy and well seasoned. The real star were the al pastor tacos. They had some pineapple and were slightly sweet. I would get these again. Overall, while it was a pleasant enough experience the tacos were kind of expensive for what they were. Unfortunately we also got kind of sick, definitely had to chug some pepto and spend time in the bathroom. Not sure if this was a one off or not. I would give them another shot for the birria tacos, the pictures look really good.
google avatar

Dakota B.

Yelp
As I am writing this review, another taco truck pulled up and ordered food from THIS taco truck. Needless to say, this taco truck is amazing! The fact that amazing al pastor tacos can be served from a food truck is impressive. But they also have barria! It's really good quality for for a reasonable price, and there is always parking, which is huge for High Street.
google avatar

Fred B.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious & friendly. These 3 words sum up Los Agavez - authentic, delicious & friendly. If I added a 4th word, it would be excellent. They have a great High Street location south of North Broadway and north of OSU campus. Prices are fair for the quality. There are some benches to sit, but the seating is definitely "parking lot basic", not quaint or picturesque. Great place - we'll be back fairly soon. Recommended.
google avatar

Tori N.

Yelp
This is my spot.... The best tacos, burritos, and most of all their Birria tacos are the best in the city!!! You won't be disappointed. The staff is super friendly..... oh and don't forget to get a horchata those are delicious as well. My favorite taco truck ever!!!
google avatar

Lesley B.

Yelp
I loved this place. This made the perfect Saturday treat. The only issue is not eating alllll the tacos so your husband doesn't get any :). Highly recommend.

Avery K.

Yelp
Great burrito, very friendly, my girlfriend and I thought it was an absolute delight and would love to come back.
