Google
Got the lunch combo with tonkatsu and salmon sashimi. Fish was fresh and pork was just right, not too fatty or dry. Server (owner?) was chill. Good for a Japanese bento fix, will need to try the rolls next time.

Peter R

Google
Neighborhood Japanese food. Quality and atmosphere were okay but the food didn’t taste authentic. We ordered a couple maki rolls, Ton Katsu, gyoza, and miso soup. Might go back again if I’m craving Japanese but don’t want to travel outside the neighborhood.

Google
Happy that we have a new, amazingly delicious restaurant in the neighborhood! I'm sensing a weekly tradition.

Aimee Wessel

Google
Fun flavors - try their specialty rolls for nice and unusual flavor combos. We tried Los Cantaros and Liger Rolls - yum!

Cristal Lopez

Google
Sushi was delicious! The Firefighter roll is my new favorite. The grilled edameme is also worthwhile.

Carol Tyger

Google
This is the best sushi I’ve had in years. We got the grilled edamame and the firefighter roll was to die for.

Denisse C

Google
Staff is friendly, food is fresh and tasty. Been here twice and will come back.

J Marra

Google
This place is way to slow on preparing food. I have been here twice and each time my order was delayed

Yelp
Really cute little spot with good sushi! It only seats 2-3 parties and seems to mostly do take out, but the sushi is very good. Had a spicy tuna, pickled radish and s cubed roll. The s cubed was quite decadent with fried asparagus, avocado and tuna on top. Everything was very fresh and reasonably priced. Also had a bottled soju which is always good cause duh.

Yelp
Lately, this has been my favorite sushi spot in Oakland. I am hooked! The fish is super fresh. The rolls are inventive and original. The service is super sweet and accommodating. Rolls are around $18-$20 which is pretty standard for quality meals these days. They also sell sake to go!

Yelp
It's been a while since I reviewed Los Kinjas, or at least since they operated the full restaurant across the street. They now have a smaller cafe they moved into, I believe due to electrical problems the building had and possibly post pandemic survival. Regardless, the food these chefs produce is top notch - whether a fine dining restaurant or walk in cafe! Their sushi is always the freshest and their plating the most creative and colorful. I've not had a bad bowl of soup, sushi roll, sashimi or appetizer here ever. Everything is worth a try!

Yelp
Amazing food! However, my car was broken into while we were eating. The car was parked in front of the restaurant next door to the new location where people were dinning outdoors in the middle of the day in broad daylight. So, just be mindful of smash and grabs in this area. Our car had nothing in it to be stolen so just had to deal with the hassle of having the window replaced. Ok so about the food... the best sushi I've had in years. The flavors surprised me and were just so thoughtfully constructed. The salmon skin roll had the most incredible smokey flavor. These rolls may look fairly standard but the flavors are elevated and top notch.

Yelp
Ordered takeout two weeks ago and the spicy tuna roll was very salty. Yes, the spicy tuna roll filling had definitely been salted -- without using any soy sauce. The grilled edamame was so salty that it was practically inedible after shelling a few pods. And the yellowfin sashimi had a mealy texture which didn't help rescue the meal, either. I dunno if it was an off night or the chef was fighting a cold and couldn't taste the salt, but I will think twice before ordering here again.

Yelp
The "hot and new restaurant" search strikes again! I have missed Kinja - I used to eat there frequently during the work week. Looks like they have reopened in a new smaller temporary location across the street from their original location. SO happy! Everything about Kinja was usually so fresh, beautifully presented, tasty, innovative, and of course made with high quality ingredients. I ordered the following items online: -Unagi, hamachi, sake nigiri $6/each = $18 -Tempura udon $15 I arrived and only waited a minute or so before my food was ready for takeout. Server and sushi makers were workin it! They also generously offered free Kinja customized calendars- April's month features a gorgeous hamachi sashimi piece. (Totes up my alley) Packaging was neat and clean. I really appreciated how the udon was separate from the broth. Tempura shrimp was delish, udon was tasty enough, and the fresh nigiri fish was yummy. I can highly vouch for their delicious lunch combos (salmon, chicken katsu/teriyaki with their fresh sashimi, as well as my specialty rolls favorites , especially the Kewpie Imano, and Cantaro. Come give this new spot a try and see what I'm talking about!

Yelp
This place never disappoints! It's always so delicious I'm so happy they opened up again . 1. Teriyaki chicken - 10/10 2. Chicken katsu - 8/10 3. Fried California roll- 10/10 We been going around 12:30pm and there's normally not a lot of people in there. Go check it out you will NOT be disappointed.

Yelp
Kinja is back! Now under a new name and a new, close-by location. I have missed this restaurant SO much!! And tonight did not disappoint. Kinja's raw fish game is always on point - so flavorful, so buttery and fresh. Don't miss the grilled edamame!!! Ridiculous amount of flavor. Wow. Their rolls have the perfect rice-fish ratio. And did I mention how beautifully fresh everything is? Oh, Kinja, I've missed you!!!!

Geronimo R.

Yelp
I was craving tempura and sashimi for a Friday evening dinner and Los Kinjas did not disappoint! I ordered the tum tum which comes with nigiri and sashimi of your choice. And I got the shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer. The salmon sashimi was thick, fresh, and buttery. Nigiri was also fresh and sized well. Tempura was crispy and had a good variety of vegetables. This place has fresh and tasty food for good value!

Sue N.

Yelp
I should've taken a photo before devouring my sushi. I'm preggers and could only order cooked sushi. I ordered the California roll, shrimp tempura and black widow. All delicious! I've been trying to find a sushi joint that uses warm sushi rice and I'm so ecstatic that I've finally found one!! Los kinjas def hit the spot and all the ingredients tasted so fresh and so flavorful. Normally when I order the spider roll from different sushi restaurants, they always taste a little off. Here it was perfect! Def my new sushi place! Can't wait to visit here when my baby is outta me so I can eat some raw fish!

Ginevra A.

Yelp
Ordered from Door Dash last night and I am now going through the Yelp reviews. I'm really not sure what happened but I felt my sushi was very off. I don't usually leave rolls and I couldn't eat the hamachi or crab - both had an off note - not fresh. The s cubed was better but also not my favorite. Disappointed and wish I had had a better experience

Ladi H.

Yelp
This is our neighborhood spot, easy to walk too and the quality is good. They are hard working and fun. The vibe is always light and friendly when we visit. The fish is fresh and well cut. I have eaten here more than a dozen times and only once had gristle. The wakame salad is a fave, nice hint of sesame oil give a freshness to the slightly crunchy seaweed. They have a nice selection of rolls and nigiri. We are partial to the Rainbow roll, yellowtail sashimi and unagi nigiri.

Masha G.

Yelp
I had gone to Kinja (when they were across the street) a couple of times pre pandemic, and while it was fine then, it's during the actual pandemic that this place has become my go to sushi spot! My favorite roll is the Baby Yoda (tempura shrimp & crab, topped with scallop and tobiko), and I make it a point to order it once a week (don't judge me!). I've also tried the firefighter, California, kewpie imago, black widow (I'm such a sucker for tobiko!), liger and the scallop city (I'm also a sucker for scallops!). I've tried a few of their sashimi options, and those are fresh and delicious! Would highly recommend this place, and can't wait to

Sophia S.

Yelp
This is an extension of the original Kinja which is located across the street. It is still just as good. They don't have all the original items and they have put some new things on the menu. But it is still just as good. Service is prompt and friendly. Food was fresh and delicious. Only downside is parking - but patience is a virtue! So glad they are back!

Irene T.

Yelp
Hot day and we were craving sushi. There is nothing decent near us, so I Doordashed Los Kinjas. This might sound like an ordinary event in and of itself, but I HATE Doordashing sushi. I've had so many bad experiences. Los Kinjas is reasonably priced and the sushi was fresh and delicious!!! The maguro was beautiful, the avo rolls, cali roll, tempura roll and futomaki were sooooo good! I should have snapped a pic of how good the food was presented but my kids and I ate it way too quick. I liked it so much that I'm thinking of ordering again tonight!

Diming X.

Yelp
Very nice place for sushi takeout! The sashimi and rolls are very fresh. Reasonable price as well

Lola R.

Yelp
This is a tiny little take out place. My friends and I ate here on New Years Eve. the sushi was delicious! We had the whole place to ourselves, since there really were only about 1-2 tables in there and we pushed them all together. But the service was friendly and personable and we had a great time!

Misha T.

Yelp
It doesn't really feel all that fusion-y. Rather, it's midpriced sushi roll spot. Which, frankly is a-ok. midpriced sushi roll spots have a place in the world. That place is when you want raw fish and fried shrimp in the same bite and you're down to pay a bit more than you usually might for takeout. Los Kinjas fits that category just fine.

Lee Ann C.

Yelp
Random choice for lunch.. What a find. Great service; fabulous food. Best Gyoza ever& I'm picky. Many choices. Thanks for a great lunch

Joe O.

Yelp
It's what I want when I'm craving good sushi, but not wanting to fork out for omakse. Here's what our usual order entails. 1. Spicy tuna roll - Some call it a newb roll. It's a classic and it's flavored just right. Not too much sauce and touch of heat. 2. Grilled edamame. Get it. Smoky flavors go well with lightly drizzled salt. 3. Hamachi roll. Good roll to bounce off the spicy tuna roll. 4. Saba nigiri! I love mackerel. 5. Teka roll. Our kids are starting to like it so that means less rolls for the adults now. 6. Any grilled chicken teriyaki, salmon is good. I used to LOVE the mackerel, but since the pandemic it's off the menu. *Oh...you've had the fried tempura ice cream before? Not like how this place does it. Welcome back Los Kinjas!

Abel Z.

Yelp
They are Sooooo close to my apartment and they have great sushi and for the price it is fair I love this place

Khanh L.

Yelp
Kinjas has moved across the street & they are still as good as ever. I ordered 2 of each specialty roll and they set it up in the most beautiful way for Mother's Day yesterday. Thank you again! So happy they re-opened.

John P.

Yelp
Was looking to just grab something quick. Don't even have a physical menu. Of course the QR code didn't want to work for whatever reason. Just got in my car and left. Waste of time

A H.

Yelp
The food, as always is top notch, every one there is professional, welcoming. The place itself, the small pop up feeling of the place, is a fast food atmosphere. Not a place to bring a crowd, like the apparently dead location across the street. I guess at this point the restaurant itself won't open again, and that is a bummer. So now I just get food to take home, which is another bummer. A large part of eating at a Japanese restaurant is the feeling of being in a Japanese restaurant. Not re-opening the restaurant is a big loss for the Grand Lake area.

Matthew S.

Yelp
To be honest, we couldn't finish any of the rolls we got due to some kind of funky taste. I've had "fishy" sushi before but this was something different. We got the Firefighter, AC Transit and basic spicy tuna rolls. For $60 for three rolls (including tip) we won't be going back. Shame. Seemed like others had a good experience minus a couple others who mentioned that same thing.

Christine J.

Yelp
Had a sushi craving and this was the closest sushi spot to me so I tried them out and I ordered the tum tum combo! The Nigiri pieces are a little smaller in this combo so I suggest ordering a bit more food but the salmon sashimi was so thick and buttery and was everything I was craving tonight. I'll definitely be coming back for that salmon sashimi

Bryan T.

Yelp
UPDATE: I sadly have to drop this to a 1 star review as they lied about the refund. They said I should see a refund in 2-3 business days. It's been over a week and it looks like I've actually paid $52 to eat two pieces of Tamago. Extremely bad first and last impression. What was destined to be my go-to sushi ideal for Oakland busted by... a fly / bug on the Sashimi. I debated posting this review as we called back, and after a bit of back and forth, we were offered a refund. After I ordered myself a new dinner from elsewhere, I found out that we would only receive a refund on the Sushi Combo that had the fly. Not like I trust any sashimi in the order after that, though. Thus, if I was a Yelp reader, I too would like to be for-warned that someone had this experience. And at the end of the day, I paid about $24 to eat two pieces of Tamago Nigiri. (I figured the Tamago was separately boxed, cooked, so how bad can it be?) And y'know what's sad? It was the BEST Tamago nigiri I have had in all of Oakland. Maybe even all of Oakland + SF. So Los Kinjas still gets a point from me for the amazing Tamago, and a point for at least refunding me on the sushi combo. If this spot is actually a perfect 5 stars as it is when I am reviewing this -- no. I would expect them to visually check their food better than this for a live bug to be sealed in.

Luciana T.

Yelp
Excellent service, good sushi, decent fried tofu and veggie tempura. Parking sucks though.

Joshua W.

Yelp
Our favorite sushi - firefighter is our fav with a great mix of flavors, textures and some spice. Glad they opened up this to-go shop across the street from the old Kinja restaurant. Would love the main place to come back at some point but this place is great for those pickup and go nights.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Jon's the best :) everyone is super great and accommodating, and the sushi is the best in Oakland/east bay. Thank you Los Kinjas!!

Guillaume ..

Yelp
Very interesting menu (crab stuffed jalapeños, etc) with original rolls. Loved the Liger and the Los Cantaros.

Steph A.

Yelp
Omg, I'm so glad they're back! I got the AC transit role and grilled edamame, while my bf got the spicy tonkasu ramen. Absolutely delicious all-around. Eating food from here weekly moving forward for sure.

Barry S.

Yelp
My wife decided that she wanted neither the task of loading the dishwasher nor the task of cooking dinner, and said "I want sushi." She suggested Los Kinjas based on reviews and proximity, and after a quick perusal of the menu we ordered. Ours was not the most adventuresome or extensive order, but everything we got was great and consumed down to the last morsel. Two orders of Agedashi tofu, a California roll, two pieces of Saba (pickled mackerel nigiri), a spicy tuna roll, and my entrée, Chicken Katsudon. The only hiccup was that we had to call the order in instead of using their website interface, but the person on the other end of the phone was cheerful and thorough. The order was ready in about a half an hour. The (hungry) wife picked up the food while I filled up the car and bought the winning $1,000,000,000 lottery ticket from the Chevron on the corner (yeah, well, about that). My Chicken Katsudon was delicious and warm and perfect. Highly recommend this place for takeout, we will be back, that's certain.

Peter R.

Yelp
Delicious traditional role! Fresh, great restaurant to have opened up along Grand Avenue!

Gaby L.

Yelp
Excellent food and warm and friendly service! Highly recommended. I ordered the agedashi tofu, miso soup, and dragon roll, and the chicken teriyaki kids' plate for my son. Everything was super tasty, fresh, and plentiful. Our waiter was so kind and helpful. I will definitely be back soon!

Blasian S.

Yelp
I liked them pre pandemic and they are one of the few restaurants who quality did not change after the pandemic. Sushi is still fresh and tasty. I love the fried oysters. The bento box was a favorite - hope they can bring it back. My only Japanese restaurant in Oakland

Elisa N.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Our party of four (one vegetarian, one non-sushi eater, two omnivores) had an amazing lunch here. A wide variety of options for our diverse group. Everything was absolutely fresh; beautiful presentation, friendly and efficient server, and terrific value.

W G.

Yelp
Food was ok. however between the price and limited seating area it's very overpriced. Might be an option for take out

Grant M.

Yelp
Spicy ramen is bangin. So good. The grilled edamame is also smoky and unique. Sushi also holds up. All around, just really happy with Los Kinjas! Been telling all my friends about them.

Leah R.

Yelp
So glad Kinja is back! Best local sushi spot in my opinion. I always get the Los Kinjas Combo-- great portions of sashimi, nigiri, and a roll for $30.00 -- incredible deal! The fish is always very fresh and their rolls are creative and tasty. Welcome back!

Steve M.

Yelp
Big ups to the food, service, and care of the business. Takes customer service plus great food to a whole other higher level. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this place :)
