"From San Miguel de Allende to Scottsdale The flavor and Spanish Colonial charm of San Miguel de Allende come to life at Los Sombreros, where the atmosphere is as enchanting as the satiny mole Poblano sauce. If you travel with a friend, try the 10-course tasting menu. For $75, it serves two and includes dishes like pozole soup, fig and panela cheese salad, and chile relleno. This place is super cute, comfortable, and clean. The foods presentation is top, and the food itself tasted amazing as well. They have great options for lunch, reducing the bill to a very small amount. My girlfriend ate gluten free and vegan only and I had a chicken meal, all together with chips and salsa which was offered the second we sat down as a gesture, total was 35 for the both of us. That’s a great price for such a high quality in service, atmosphere, and food selection! We will definitely be back here, thank you!

Google
I feel like this is more of a fusion Mexican place. Shrimp Cerviche - it was good but it’s got Aioli. Very different from what I used to have. Shrimp Tacos- good but looks just like the cerviche that I just had, other than the shrimp is grilled Chicken Mole - husband and son loved it. Chili Relleno - yummy, very different because it’s got some sort of salsa on the bottom instead of some red/green creamy sauce that I have had in other Mexican restaurant but very good. My favorite dish out of all. Highly recommended All sides are good, rice, refried beans and veggies Desserts: Flan was usually Churro was freshly fried and super yummy. Pillowy soft inside and crisp outside.

We checked this place out for dinner during the week. We were seated right away on the open air patio. It had a very nice atmosphere. Everyone we encountered was friendly and the food was delicious. If you like spicy, you can ask for the habanero sauce to add to your salad. We ordered tamales, tacos, and carne a la tampiquena. The skirt steak was phenomenal. We all ate until we were stuffed. The margaritas were also a hit! We all tried different ones and everyone was satisfied. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for some fresh, local Mexican food.

Google
This place did not disappoint! ChatGPT gave us four great Mexican-inspired restaurant options in Phoenix, and we’re so glad we chose this one. Our server’s recommendations were spot on, and the smoked carnitas were absolutely out of this world. The Palomas were the perfect refreshment for a warm late-March afternoon. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
Try the pollo chimmichanga or the potatoe taco. Both were delicious. Our server brought the second round of chips and their fabulous salsa without being asked. They have a nice covered patio, but we ate inside.

It is a unique, solid Mexican restaurant in South Scottsdale with much history. Don't expect Tex-Mex rather a unique menu that has something for everyone (including Vegans). 👍 Service is almost always great. Recently Joshua served us and he was very good. Shout out to Rosie, who has always been one of my favorites! 👍 Margarita flights are delicious! A way to try a few and determine your favorite. 👍 I like the food, some things more than others (love the tamales, guac, and some of the salads in particular). The breakfast/brunch options are solid. Their rice/beans MEH but it's hard to make those stand-out. 👍 Desserts are awesome, save room for them. 👍 A little on the pricey end IMO for S. Scottsdale but not unreasonable considering the ingredients. 👍 Love the vibe especially since they have expanded, however, please note, the flies on the patio, especially when it gets hotter can be uber annoying. Guess something in the food attracts them. But I would still sit outside most of the time (the fire pits are awesome in the winter).

Google
Had an amazing meal with Rosie as our waitress. Prickly pear margaritas were delicious as well as the chipotle salsa and everything else we tried today. Wonderful meal.

Google
The atmosphere on the outside patio is awesome with the fire pits and the tree. My waitress Rosie was nice. The patron margarita's were very good and not short on tequila. I love their regular guacamole with the crumbled cheese on top with cilantro and some slices of radish on a bed of cabbage, to me it's more than regular guacamole. I find it fantastic. The roasted chili salsa is very flavorful. IMO some of the best salsa I've tasted in a very long time. All the food is very good.

Yelp
This is more of a Mexican fusion place for me. Chilli Relleno - came with some sort of light salsa broth which turned out to be very refreshing and good. Highly recommended. Chicken Mole - good but chilli Relleno stole the show. Shrimp cerviche - very different, looks and tastes like shrimp tacos. Not my thing. Shrimp tacos- taste like cerviche but with grilled shrimps. Side orders were good. Service was ok. Desserts: Flan ok Churros - fresh fried, crispy on the outside, pillowy soft inside. Amazing.

Yelp
This place had been recommended by our kids & they were right! We came here at brunch time on Easter. We were lucky to beat the post chirch crowd. The staff was exceedingly friendly & the bar patio was delightful. Steve's Margarita : Perfection ! Not to sweet or sour . Generous Chips & Salsa: Gratis, and generous. Perfectly crisp with good salsa. I likes the thinness of the texture Camarones in mole Verde: Loved this dish! Perfect portions! Enough to take home for a snack Chilaquiles Verde: the hub loved this & the portions where great. Served with beans & rice. He liked the added bit of meat which came standard , with beans & rice. I have to say again, the staff was so incredibly welcoming ! We loved this place

Yelp
The restaurant is super beautiful and the staff is super kind, but the food flavor was really lacking. We have gone two times just in case the first time was an off day, and always want to give restaurants a second try before any not to great reviews. I ordered the Elote appetizer and it was okay, it didn't have much flavor and tasted like canned corn, which was super disappointing since I thought everything was freshly made. I also ordered the chili relleno, unfortunately it tasted like dirty water. I really hate to say that; but the salsa tasted like funky water and the chili and salsa had no flavor expect a very odd after taste. My partner ordered what was like a fajita plate, but the meat lacked flavor and was very rubbery. The beans were very bland and the rice was very hard. The restaurant again is beautiful; the staff was so kind but unfortunately the food was not good. It was also a bit concerning seeing the kitchen staff touch their hair; mouth; other objects and not wash their hands.

Yelp
Kurt, What a mess today was. I tried the Pollo con Espinacas you recommended. It took 50 minutes to arrive after being ordered and the chicken was over cooked and dry. Service was slow. It was busy with not enough staff. Music was good. A toddler peed on the floor and the staff had to be told to mop up the hugh puddle 20 minutes after it happened. They thought it was water and continues to walk through it. Either way, it was a slipping hazard. The visit took just over 2 hours for lunch.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Tuesday night with a group of 6 and was seated right away. We started with the queso fundido and guacamole, both were delicious and well seasoned. I had the Oaxacan Old Fashioned with tequila and mezcal and loved it. It was hickory smoked and served with smoke wafting from the glass. It was so good. For my meal I had the rib eye tacos with the refried beans and rice as a side. They were delicious and a good portion to go along with the appetizers. Service was pleasant and very easily split our checks for us.

Yelp
So delicious and authentic! We loved the ambiance with the DJ. Service was amazing. Thank you for the good vibes and food.
google avatar

Yelp
While busy, the food was super delicious and the service was efficient! I had the Puerco en Chipotle dish and their Paloma cocktail-- everything was perfectly fresh and full of flavor! Would have it again! The inside dining was a bit hot with limited AC exposure, so I would brace for that.
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed delicious dinner. Definitely repeatable. Efficient and friendly service. Side option served of veggies was carrots and zucchini. Jealous, my husband's serving had a few pieces of broccoli and red pepper. Won't choose the healthy option next time.

Yelp
Food and service was really good. Would recommend coming here if you're looking for some Mexican food. The guacamole and the salsa are honestly really good And every play was great also

Yelp
Originally (mistakenly) made reservations for the Mesa location but SO GLAD we figured out this (OG) location was closer. I'm sure the other locations are great, but they don't have the atmosphere, the monster ficus creaking through the patios roof and they don't have Rosie, our fabulous server. We ordered the queso fundido with chorizo and black beans. Gloriosky!! Truly one of the best things I've ever eaten. Rosie brought an order of guacamole on accident but IT was so good I asked that she include it on our tab. Wait. I haven't talked about the margaritas. Again, probably greatest ever. As one guy said a lot recently 'no hyperbole'. Then I had the lamb shank in adobo sauce. M had the skirt steak. Both were delicious. Way too much food. Way too much. Took the queso home with extra tortillas and will have them tomorrow for breakfast before heading back to the airport. We will be back here.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Los Sombreros. We've always had great service and delicious food! It was nice visiting this last time and seeing the outdoor space is a little more closed off.

Yelp
I came with a large party because everything in old town was booked. They were able to seat all of us which was nice. The service was super slow though after we got our drinks. Refills for chips and salsa and drinks did not come quickly. And we waited at least 40 minutes for our food. We were a large party so I can understand the wait but they brought all of our food at once so the food made earlier was cold and soggy. The food made later was hot and fresh so it was all a matter of when they finished your order. It would've been much better if we got the food as it was finished. The food itself was alright. Chips and salsa were good. I got the seafood tacos with rice and beans and everything was a bit bland and cold. I also got a horchata which was okay. All in all, I'd recommend other places in Phoenix which have better Mexican food.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my goodness. This is the cutest spot. Outside seating with misters. Nice indoor seating. The staff was the nicest. Everyone was just the sweetest. Everything was great and I will definitely come back. I'd like to try the outdoor seating it was just a smidge hot for us so when it cools down a bit it will be perfect.

Yelp
Service was fast, server was friendly. Place was clean. It got a little chilly when they propped the front door open. Food was good.

Yelp
My friends and I visited Scottsdale for Giants spring training. On our last day which happened to be my birthday we found Los Sombreros. We were greeted nicely and asked if we wanted to dine inside or in the patio. I was a bit breezy but there was a fire pit and heaters available so it was very comfortable. Our waitress Nicole was a sweetheart and was intent on making our first visit memorable. We ordered the Ceviche and Guacamole for appetizers. They were delicious and the portions were plenty for the 3 of us. Each out our entree's did not disappoint, all were so good. They brought out an old school sombrero and complimentary dessert for my birthday which was cool. Los Sombreros is now our go to for authentic southwest Mexican food.

Yelp
Yelp offered reservations for this place and we made reservations. Except when we arrived, we were told they don't take reservations and that they were busy. But looking around, there were empty tables. We waited to be seated because we were tired and hungry and had a long day. We finally get seated, outside, and the waiting game began. We waited for a while for a waiter. We finally got one after what felt like 20 or so minutes. We saw people around us get seated and attended to first. We didn't get water or eating cutlery. We ordered our food and then waited again. This time for the food. Everyone around us was getting their meal including those who were seated after us. We finally get our food and it wasn't warm. The carne a la tampiquena wasn't great. The steak was overcooked and cheese enchilada looked pitiful. The chicken enchiladas is a dish you assume can't be hard to mess up. This dish lacked flavor in every aspect. We were ignored for the majority of the night. We should've just gotten up and left and paid at the front. It was ridiculous. They looked understaffed but yet everyone else was getting served and helped. The ambiance was OK. Rusty tables and chairs for the outside seating. Inside looked plain. I wouldn't recommend this place. There's other WAY better Mexican restaurants out there. Don't waste your time and money here.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Servers were filling water and chips basket in a timely manner. And the food- chips and salsa very fresh, guac and elite corn starters were flavorful. Tacos, fig salad, tomato salad were good size portions. Churros for dessert ended a great meal. Wish I had pictures.
google avatar

Yelp
The food here was good and the toddlers did good with the nachos and quesadillas. The service was good and the outdoor seating was comfortable. A good range of refreshments as well. Worth a try!
google avatar

Yelp
An average southwestern / Mexican food joint. I had hoped for more as the Phoenix/Scottsdale area is filled with phenominal Southwestern food fare. Chicken Mole is one of my go-to. I ordered their steak mole. The mole sauce was bland, no heat, and no richness. The steak was thin and nothing special. The chips and salsa were good. They did get the salsa right.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Great happy hour and brunch. We have celebrated a number of birthdays here. The flavored margaritas are wonderful. I love the carnitas. They have a great patio.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a group of 25 there. The staff was fantastic, food amazing, and the drinks were great! Fully recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a booking for 20 people after a family photo shoot. Was to be seated outside however they had run out of propane for the gas heaters. They were able to move us inside thankfully, as it was quite cold - especially for AZ winter temps. We all ordered food and drinks which were pretty good and the service was great. My only comment was that the food was pretty cold when it was brought out and my son specifically asked to have his food brought out early as he had to leave for work. We waited some time for the food to arrive. His food ended coming out last, after he had to leave. Overall, the food was nice but served cold wasn't making it very appetizing.

Yelp
Amazing food 10/10. I got the smoked chicken enchilada but forgot to take a picture because it looked so good. Probably the best enchilada I've ever had. For dessert we had the chocolate cream pie which was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to in my life. No where near authentic! Ordered a quesadilla and received a empanada?!?! It was deep fried and crunchy with corn inside!! Never had a deep fried quesadilla (empanada) with corn inside...
google avatar

Maithili S.

Yelp
Delicious food. Lots of free chips and salsa. The entrees are however on the smaller side. Asked for extra salsa to spice up my shrimp tacos- and it hit the spot. Quick service. Plenty of parking. Found this place via Groupon.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Wow! What a fantastic restaurant! We stumbled upon this place by accident but what a wonderful find! They specialize in smoking their meats and vegetables. The place smells amazing and their table salsa is the best I've ever had, (we bought a pint to take home!) The ribeye tacos were perfect as were the lobster, crab and shrimp tacos. Service was spot on and I can't recommend this place more!
google avatar

Yelp
I am incredibly sad to post this review and I waited a long time to do so but I have to write a fair review for folks that want to try this place - hopefully the restaurant can fix this soon so I can go an update this review! First of all, the first time I want here I absolutely loved it!! I would rave about this place to everyone I could. The restaurant is incredibly cute both indoors and in their very large back patio! They also had some great choices for meals. The first time I went I got the mole with the steak and shrimp - it was amazing! I am Mexican so I am always nervous to order the mole but this one was incredible. Sadly - that was the ONLY time it was good. I have since returned numerous times, each time wanting to order the mole and praying that the same chef from my first encounter will return but every single time I have been disappointed. Sometime they simply told me they could not serve the dish, others the mole sauce was just too salty to eat and the last time that nailed the coffin for me was when I asked for the dish well done and received basically a raw steak. The worst part was that no one came to check on us for over 30 minutes so my partner was done with his food by the time they offered to make me a new one and by that point I had lost hope in this restaurant. They did comp my meal and offered to make me something else but it was too late by that point. I will likely not return until I see a review of the mole poblano being back to what it used to be

Luann B.

Yelp
To many flies flying around you inside Too many workers standing around Food is ok. No customer service. Quant restaurant but needs help
google avatar

Stan F.

Yelp
Lunch was excellent, as well as service. The 3 of us got items off the lunch menu plus margaritas. Sitting in the patio was an added benefit.
google avatar

Nina W.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Scottsdale. Their HH is awesome and the drinks are amazing! They use good quality alcohol for their cocktails. The margarita has an extra shot of tequila in it too. The mango mezcalrita is the best. The guac is yummy and the quesadilla on HH is a must try!
google avatar

Lynn R.

Yelp
Our friend had been here before and liked it, so agreed to try it for lunch as our plans for an afternoon Spring Training game were rained out. We enjoyed a really tasty meal and stayed warm inside while the rain poured down. Our server, Rosie, was delightful--friendly, helpful and attentive. We all enjoyed our meals and would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
The service was really good, they where on top of everything. The patio was really comfortable as well. It's a nice neighborhood place, high quality. My carne asada tacos were delicious. The only thing that I would complain about at all was that my food was a little cool. Definitely a great Mexican restaurant.

Gunnar S.

Yelp
Wonderful food and drink! Rosie was attentive and provided a wonderful atmosphere for my birthday!
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Probably one of the worst breakfast/lunch places I've been to and I've been here for dinner which was great. The server was grouchy and not pleasant one bit, flies EVERYWHERE as if the place hadn't been cleaned, we waited 10-15 mins upon walking in before being greeted and the place was empty.
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
I ate here with my daughter at the end of the evening, and the service was good and it was nice to dine outside on the back patio. My daughter enjoyed her three different tacos but I was underwhelmed by the mole chicken enchiladas. The Molé was just bland, I really did enjoy the place but I think next time I would order something different
google avatar

Erin F.

Yelp
#1 Shout out to the potato taco! Service was great, our waitress was attentive and could answer any questions we had about the menu. Note as a group of five they added in gratuity on check. As for food I would not get the guacamole again. We got the large portion and considering that to me it wasn't really anything supersized or I'm not sure how to phrase it except it really didnt seem that big when you dug in bc while it looks like a large bowl it wasn't really a bowl at all but a flat surface underneath so it was more plopped on. It was a fabulous presentation but as far as flavor goes it was lacking . They also put a layer of cabbage at bottom, nothing against cabbage it was just unexpected and in most of the dishes. We got a variety of tacos, margs and a couple other items. Overall fabulous. I loved all the mosaic tile tables, and back patio seating is where it's at, with an indoor/outdoor bar area. We came on a Friday mid day no wait and instant seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Dinner with a friend, new place for me and loved it. Staff were super friendly. Started with the elote which seemed very fresh and was a great light starter. My main course was the Pechuga Rellena (wood-fired chicken breast stuffed with huitlacoche, goat cheese and grilled corn, topped with cilantro and onions covered with chipotle tomato sauce). Delicious, very pleased with this. Would definitely recommend and plan to return.
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
Service was very slow Sunday at 430. I like large portions these were not. Food was good but again small portions. Ambiance was good. If you like yuppie this is your place.
google avatar

Tyler M.

Yelp
10/10 dining. Food was incredible and Nicole was a phenomenal server! Steve says the icecream was outstanding!
google avatar

Darl B.

Yelp
Excellent really have enjoyed my meals here. Everything solid. Maybe id go with a fuller, spicier salsa for chips or whatnot but that a quibble. Chips could be better, guacamole very good. Wood roasted pork dishes are terrific. Good service. Little odd pos servers stations so right there visible from inside front eating area. I'll be back.

Bradley J.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Scottsdale ! Smoked chicken and steak. Perfection! Atmosphere and margaritas the best. Also Pacifico on Tap.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food! Take all my guests here and we always leave happy! Highly recommend! Love their salsa and drinks!

Yelp
This was our first meal in Arizona! The sauces are so flavorful and amazing. The best thin crispy chips and great guacamole!

Andrea G.

Yelp
We love Los Sombreros! They have the BEST chips and salsa & margaritas. Their patio is gorgeous; we enjoy sitting at the bar outside. We've always had a great experience with their staff. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Sergio took care of us this time, and he went above and beyond.
google avatar

Brad L.

Yelp
I can't believe my friend lives only a couple blocks away and we've never came by here. Decided to try it for lunch and it was unbelievably amazing. The staff is so friendly thank you to GEOFF and Rosie and the chicken enchiladas were so tasty. They come with beans and rice for 10 bucks And they don't charge for chips and salsa. This place should have a line around the block into that good

Yelp
The hat I got for Christmas is too big, It's nice, but my sombrero is too big. Can't tell one thing from another, I got married to my brother. The hat I got for Christmas is too big (M. Fisher / D. Gussin) Hats off to Los Sombreros for a truly fabulous dining experience! We thoroughly enjoyed being doted on by our excellent server, and entertained by his dramatic flair and catchphrase ("BAM!") We also loved the restaurant's ambiance and colorful décor with lively San Miguel murals, adorable curtains, and twinkling lights on the back porch, all set in a historic red brick building. We were greeted and seated quickly, and ceremoniously served our chips and salsa while we browsed the San Miguel-inspired menu. "BAM!" Chips were light, crispy, and fresh, and the mild salsa was right up my alley with only a faint hint of vinegar. We also scored some free guacamole by signing up for Sombreros' rewards program. Holy 'mole, was Mt Guac ever worth it! We loved that it was garnished with sliced radishes and a chip with a third degree "Los Sombreros" burn. Our server nailed his recommendations for delicious sharables appropriate for two people, though we happily had leftovers for the next day. We started with the crispy 3-taco platter, with potato, chicken, and carnitas tacos. This platter scored big--it was a hat trick! As for the Queso Fundido, it was so fun to eat-o, scooping out stretchy cheese for miles to uncover onions, tomatoes, peppers, minced garlic, and chicken in a chipotle crema. "BAM!" The only negative issue was that online reservations incorrectly showed the restaurant was booked solid, causing our group to have to dine at a different restaurant the night before. It's a no-brainer to add Los Sombrero's to your dinner rotation. "In Oprahesque fashion, the food gets a BAM! The service gets a BAM! EVERYTHING gets a BAM!! Por que mi sombrero es tan grande Santa Claus?

Yelp
We had to visit again!! Best service ever. Thank you Rosie!! You are the best. :) We'll be dreaming of the amazing salsa

Yelp
I have lived downtown Scottsdale for two years now and it never popped in this place yet it's been on my wish list today. I decided to bring my friend in for lunch and the place is so cute so friendly. I felt like I was a regular and it was my first time there. Geoff the owner is so personable and makes you feel welcome. The chips and salsa are delicious. I had the chicken tacos which I'm definitely coming back for. The patio outside is so nice perfect weather perfect meal unless the prices are extremely reasonable. This will be my regular rotation also thank you Rosie. You're a sweetheart.

Yelp
A classic. Best Mexican restaurant in Scottsdale. Can taste the freshness and authenticity. Added bonus: Vegan friendly. Unfortunately, the rice is cooked in chicken broth. Other than that, just a great experience every time. Full menu for meat eaters.
