One late Saturday afternoon on Taraval, we had finished chowing down Golden Boy pizza -- and felt the need to keep the good times rollin.' But what were we to do on this historically sleepy side of the city?
Lo and behold! Lost and Found seemed to manifest itself right next to Golden Boy. From a glance, the inside looked cute and chic, and the drinks menu looked fun and interesting. We excitedly strolled in.
---- Drinks ----
I'll cut to the chase: the drinks underwhelmed. Visually, they looked pretty and sounded inventive. However, the flavor profiles were truly lacking and off the mark.
J-Town Matcha:
Very Instagrammable. You're presented a sculptural piece: a pale-green, whipped mountain, from which Pocky sticks emerge, and royally sitting atop the mound is, literally, a little, orange origami crane.
So, it was stunning. Unfortunately, the flavors tasted dull and muddied, and the spirit seemed imperceptible. It felt like 80% presentation and 20% flavor.
Bonfire at the Beach:
This Mezcal drink was simply average in taste, if not slightly below average. Unlike the first drink, this presentation was plain, so it didn't make up for the lacking flavor profile.
---- Service ----
There was a lone, very busy bartender and several groups, so it understandably took some time to get our drinks. The bartender was working as quickly as he could, and we felt a bit bad for him. It seemed unusually crowded for a late Saturday afternoon.
---- Atmosphere ----
Inside offered a hip, chic vibe. The space provided a decent amount of seating, but also a pretty cramped layout. Lots of brushing and bumping other folks if navigating between tables. We chose the bar seating, which was fine.
The bar provided three big TVs and a projection, so perhaps a decent space to catch some sports with a drink.
You get less of a conventional, old school bar vibe and more of a modern, hang out vibe. I think this is a plus! There are multiple tables, so the space seemed group-friendly. I can see it being a fun place to enjoy an impromptu afternoon hang out with friends.
---- Overall ----
I liked the fun interior, and despite how busy it was, the bartender was friendly and professional. I appreciate that there's a cute, local bar in Parkside.
That said, I can't overlook the underwhelming drinks, regardless of how stunning the presentation was. I'm willing to return again to enjoy the space -- but I would opt for an Old Fashioned, as opposed to the fancier signature drinks.
