Lotus Dim Sum Dumpling House opened over two weeks ago, on Wilshire/4th in Santa Monica, replacing PF Chang's restaurant which had been there for nearly 2 decades.
The restaurant does not provide parking. Limited street metered parking and parking lots for a fee close by. Full bar lounge, only indoor seating, no outdoor patio seating at all.
Because of the lack of parking, no outdoor seating and all the negative reviews, I was reluctant to visit this restaurant. A couple days ago, I was in the area, and wanted to try Lotus dim sum...
The hosts greeted Me cordially, was accommodating with my service furbaby and we were seated promptly. I sat at a booth close to the bar for a view of the tv monitor to occasionally glance at the sports games/scores. The waiter came by shortly to take my order, he was also the bartender but was professional and attentive. Told the waiter, I was in a rush I ordered a wonton soup, dim sum and noodles. The food was prepared quickly and presented nicely. The wonton soup with the baby bok choy, the broth was so flavorful. The steamed lobster, crab and shrimp and shrimp har gow were all so delicious I can tell it was hand made fresh. Ordered shrimp and chives pan fried dumplings also quite good. The freshness and tastiness of these dumplings deserve 5 stars!
The Singapore noodles dish looked good but was a disappointment, lacking the spicy curry seasoning and the noodles were too chewy, not thoroughly cooked, earns a 1/5 star :(
Noteworthy is the tabletop condiments jar of spicy chili had a silver plated spoon and NOT a cringey plastic spoon like most Asian restaurants!
The menu offers dim sum, Asian cuisine dishes and sushi so this restaurant is really an Asian fusion of sorts to appeal to most. Because I don't eat pork, I like the nice variety of seafood and veggies choices offered on the menu.
I wanted to limit my time inside the restaurant, as I am not 100% comfortable dining inside, so after taking pictures of the food and finishing the soup, having a bite of each dish, I had everything boxed togo. Eco friendly Compostable boxes were used yay. But keep in mind, dim sum should be eaten once prepared, it tastes better and doesn't taste as good after a delivery process.
Despite my limited time inside the restaurant, I say if you're comfortable dining inside, and want delish, savory, freshly made dim sum dumplings Lotus is worth a visit.
