Lotus Chinese at The Domain in Austin offers a spacious and modern setting. The dumplings were flavorful and well-prepared, but the beef and shrimp fried rice didn’t quite meet my expectations. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was pleasant, making it a comfortable spot for a casual meal. While some dishes stood out more than others, it’s worth exploring their menu to find your personal favorites.

Google
Great food. Service was super fast and super friendly. Noodles were spicy and dumplings crispy. Would def recommend and be back soon!!!

Google
Food is ok… services is not quite as good as the food. The lady that worked here walked out and told me I could be at their table because I had a box from the donut store next door. She didn’t take him to consideration that I had zero time to order food or look at their menu, she didn’t take in his consideration than I was most likely gonna order at their restaurant, and she didn’t even ask if I was gonna eat there. She literally came out and told me I can’t sit at that table. So now you have one star and have lost a customer yes I’ve eaten here many times the food’s OK like I said earlier But I won’t be coming back

Google
Went here with friends. My friend and I ordered the orange chicken with fried rice, while my other friend ordered the sweet and sour sesame chicken with fried rice. The food did not meet our expectations, it seems the sauce was a little off for our taste. The quality of service was great and the portion size was suitable for the price. Probably will not return.

Google
Do they not care to cook food all the way? Uncooked shrimp is unacceptable… Ordered food on 1/14 around 5:40pm-5:50pm if you guys care to refund back. Tried calling over the phone but no answer. Update: the pork egg rolls are also raw/undercooked….

Google
The place is small but there is plenty of seating inside and I can't remember but I think outside as well. We ordered our food through the QR code and it didn't take long for it to come out. The food was actually good but did lack something I can't put my hand on it but it was good. The place could use a refresher I think. Service was basic.

Google
Nice space. Waited several minutes to order at the counter. I got the vegetarian dumplings and lo mein combo. The dumplings honestly tasted like they were frozen and then fried resulting in a weird texture. Overall very bland. Lo mein was fine but very oily. Would not return.

Google
If I'm being honest I was a little disappointed. The crispy pork dumplings were really good, the rest of the food was good but I wasn't terribly impressed, and the drinks were mediocre at best. The server was not attentive or friendly. My friends and I felt rushed by him while ordering even though we were the only customers in the restaurant. We ordered two of the rainbow soup dumplings (and we were clear about wanting two) and afterwards realized he had only rung us up for one. He didn't repeat the order to us so we didn't realize until he brought out the food. At that point it was not worth ordering another.

Yelp
I came here twice. The food is amazing (I always get the rice with the honey walnut shrimps and the cheeseburger dumplings)! The place is really cute, especially the patio outside that has an amazing atmosphere at night! The only thing, I would probably make the portions slightly bigger, but it's not a big problem.

Yelp
During a recent visit to Lotus Chinese near Domain in Austin, Texas, I had a great dining experience. We started with the steamed veggie dumplings wrapped in spinach, which were both healthy and delicious. The dumplings were generously portioned with six pieces, making it a satisfying appetizer. Service at Lotus Chinese was notably efficient, with our food arriving promptly. The staff was courteous and attentive. The ambience was comfortable.

Yelp
Stopped in at lotus Chinese for dinner to go while at the domain. They have a completely contactless system where you order everything online even while in store. We got a couple of their dishes and appetizers and took it home. Got an order of their egg rolls and dumplings. Wasn't a big fan of their dumplings their egg rolls were much better. For our entrees we got the schuzan noodles and sweet and sour chicken. I was fan of both the dishes but nothing wowed me. A little disappointing dining area there wasn't much life inside the restaurant you can tell majority of the people take their food to go. If you are in a pinch to get some food and live in the domain it's a great spot but much better Asian spots in Austin.

Yelp
This was a unexpected gem. First , you walk in and seat yourself. You are able to order and pay for your food via link you scan on your phone. The portion size was perfect. We ordered the chicken fried rice, beef and broccoli, salt and pepper shrimp and orange chicken. They were playing 90s and early 2000s music. They also sell cocktails in addition to their regular drinks. The food was flavorful and fresh. I would definitely recommend and will visit again before I leave. There were quite a few items that were sold out I wanted to try but hoping my next go round they will be available.

Yelp
I've walked past this place many times and decided finally to try it. Like others have mentioned, there's pretty much no service - you seat yourself, you order by QR code, and you pay through the website you ordered from. I actually don't mind this because it makes for a casual and easy experience. Pork dumplings - 4/5, a very standard Chinese dumpling. They came out cold the first time but the kitchen remade it for us with no hassle. Pork XLB - 2/5, two of the three came broken and they are on the greasy side. Dan dan noodle - 5/5, I actually really liked this. I had almost no expectations walking in but this dish satisfied my craving. The portion of meat is large and very filling. Flavor is yummy and authentic. Orange chicken - 3/5, my boyfriend is an orange chicken lover and he wasn't into this. My take is that this orange chicken is a little healthier than what you might find at your usual American-Chinese spot; the breading is crispy but not thick, and the sauce actually tastes like orange peel and not grossly sweet. Personally, I think it's decent but this is not a dish I ever order for myself. Overall, Lotus Chinese isn't bad but if there aren't any tables available, I wouldn't say it's worth a wait.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch between shopping. We were pleasantly surprised by the rainbow dumpling platter. Ordered two and a side of broccoli which was perfectly steamed. Service was quick, food was flavorful. Would return for the dumplings!

Yelp
One stop Chinese at the Domain. Got the Veggie steamed dumplings filled with veggies , spinach. The service was good and quick, Had a lot of spots to sit. It is right next to a parking spot so makes it easier to stop by.

Yelp
Truly mid. The Spicy Szechuan Noodles were lifeless and bland, which is a disappointing for any dish but especially when you are expecting bold Szechuan and spice. Sweet and sour chicken with noodles were pretty good but on the same scale as a popular Asian food chain (it rhymes with Danda Dexpress) so not really worth the price. Overall portions is on a the smaller side but at the ambiance of the location is nice.

Yelp
My office hosted a luncheon catered by Lotus Chinese and I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed their meals. I tried everything from the Chicken Basil dumpling, Vegetable Spring Roll, Sweet & Sour Sesame Chicken and Egg Fried Rice. Overall pleasant experience, and looking forward to dining at the restaurant next time I'm around the Domain.

Yelp
Ambience is always a little weird for me because the workers don't seem to want to interact with you but the food is amazing.
google avatar

Gaby S.

Yelp
Has a scan to order and pay system, so great for a quick bite (and no tip necessary). The orange chicken has a great citrus flavor, could see how it might be too strong for some. The sweet and sour chicken flavor was perfect, and both had great crisp. Definetly recommend adding lo Mein as a side for $1 extra!

Kamryn V.

Yelp
I used to eat here all the time last year and stopped for a few months. I recently started going again and the past three times; I have gotten violently sick and this last time I got food poisoning. The food is pretty mid here and if you're wanting some Chinese food, there is blue sushi on the other side of the domain that has way better food that won't make you sick for the same price.

Yelp
I really wish I had checked the reviews before ordering from here. I'm visiting Austin and staying in the domain, so I wanted to get something quick without leaving the Domain. First, the food is pretty expensive even for the Domain. If it was good, it may have been worth it, but it was not. I ordered Spicy Szechuan Chili Noodle, pork egg rolls, and cheeseburger dumplings. I understand that I shouldn't expect much from the cheeseburger dumplings, and I ordered it as more of a curiosity. They tasted like a strange tangy sauce with nothing else, I could barely see any meat at all. The egg rolls are ok, but about a third the size and cost the same. The worst thing was definitely the Spicy Szechuan Chili Noodles. On top of the noodles being extremely overcooked, it wasn't spicy at all, I mean at all. Not only was it not spicy, but it was barely seasoned at all. It was like eating noodles with butter and a very small amount of beef, which you have to pay $5 extra for. If I were you, I would go anywhere else.

Yelp
We came here because Xian was closed until 5pm and we were starving. Saw that this place had soup dumplings and thought sure why not. Unfortunately we were sorely disappointed. Upon entering, there were signs posted saying to seat ourselves and order off the QR code at each table but all the tables were full. We saw that you can place an order at the register in the back for takeout and figured we would just order there and wait for a table to open up. There's also a self serve water station next to the register. As for the food, it wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't worth the cost. - Cheeseburger Dumplings - 6 for $5 but these are mini sized. They interestingly do taste like a cheeseburger - Pork Soup Dumplings - 3 for $6. These honestly remind me of the xiao long bao at a dimsum restaurant. Nothing too spectacular. - Lo Mein w/ Fried Pork Combo - For $15 I would expect the portion of this to be bigger. It comes with 8 dumplings. You get the option between boiled or fried and it also comes with one sauce if your choice. I got the spicy mayo. The lo mein portion is extremely small. I didn't like how it seemed like the noodles were cut up to shorter pieces instead of long strands. Pretty much can eat it with a spoon instead. Overall, I was pretty disappointed by the food. For the price, I would expect high quality or at least a bigger portion size. I went in hungry and $32 later, I left still hungry. Unlikely I would come back here again.

Yelp
I'm Chinese and I can attest that this is a good restaurant. The Dan Dan noodles were spot on. The dumplings were good too - both the regular and soup dumplings. Staff was also very friendly and service was fast.

Yelp
You know, it's been a minute since I've eaten any Asian food in the domain, let alone off rock rose. This place used to be called something else before they rebranded and a friend and I met together here for lunch as I work right next to rock rose and my friend was waiting for a service appointment from Apple. Ordering lunch at lotus via the QR code and online options was super easy, closing out the tab, getting the food all brought to your table with the help of a mobile device. My coworkers all said this place was MEH but my friend and I who had lunch really enjoyed our solid dumplings + noodles lunch combo. Hit the spot without going into a food coma, quick and easy to get in and out and on your way. Inside is cozy but AC ftw when dealing with the Texas sun whew!

Yelp
Overall met my expectations for Americanized Chinese food -- it felt like a higher-end Panda Express with better ingredients! The Orange Chicken had the right amount of breading that I personally preferred, but the overall meal felt a bit more on the oily side. The service was fast and checkout process was efficient (you order food on your phone via a QR code once you're at the restaurant).
google avatar

Tiffany G.

Yelp
The best Chinese food I've had in years! All the food was fresh and delicious. We had the sweet and sour sesame chicken with crispy fried dumplings. The service was fast and the restaurant was cute. I would totally stop by here in the future while visiting the Domain.
google avatar

Joshua V.

Yelp
Go ANYWHERE else if you care about quality or good taste! You can tell they used the cheapest ingredients and no flavors! Tried rainbow soup dumplings, orange chicken with lo mein, sesame chicken with lo mein, and veggie spring rolls! All were absolutely 1out of 10
google avatar

Yelp
Casual date night here for dinner tonight. Everything we had was really good and its a cute little spot in the domain! However, I was a bit thrown off when we arrived and the menu had nearly none of the items shown on here. Here is the link to their current menu on toast tab - https://www.toasttab.com/lotuschinese/order-and-pay/1/#d24a9e5a-4efd-4a03-916c-c145583d54fc and no happy hour specials. We had the chicken dumplings (crispy) with dragon sauce, the orange chicken with lo mien and sweet & sour sesame chicken with lo mien. The dumplings came out after our food but everything came our fairly quickly - I would say probably under 10 minutes. The dumplings were pretty good, however important note is that while we thought the dragon sauce was good it is VERY spicy. Like think pureed habaneros spicy. Both of our entrees were really good and super fresh, probably some of the best crunch on this type of dish I have had to date. Portions are good for one person, however smaller than most Chinese places. We also had the house watermelon margaritas which also came out super fast and were made with a fresh watermelon juice, nice and light, very refreshing. Everything came out to $56 and some change and was very filling without being too heavy. I would definitely go back, the yelp page for them just needs a bit of a make over so that people know what to expect here

Sara S.

Yelp
Tried out lotus for lunch today. The inside was empty, which was nice for a quick lunch. However the environment was sticky. The bathrooms smelled of urine and were also sticky. We tried the soup dumpling rainbow variety order and they were ok- the dumping dough was squishy and sticky and the inside flavor was just ok. The soy ginger noodles were a great texture but overall the flavors were ok, not developed or variable. The soup dumpling spoon was so small you couldn't eat properly and they were served in tin trays. Didn't come with any sauces or chili oils to elevate the flavor. Wouldn't recommend or go back. Much better places to eat in the domain.
google avatar

rachel s.

Yelp
Definitely go somewhere else in the Domain if you are actually hungry. Food took a while to come out and when it did, it didn't have any flavor at all. If you care about the quality of your food, go somewhere else. One of the worst chinese food places I've been to. Also, it's a seat yourself where you order and pay off of a QR code. The workers seem like they don't want to talk to you either which is a little odd.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
Not bad! Walking around the Domain North, if you're looking for Chinese food, Lotus fits the bill. Standard items, just what you'd expect. The service is efficient and there was plenty of room for our party of seven.
google avatar

Owen K.

Yelp
Food took a good while to come out and when it did the portions were barely enough to feed a small child. Don't come here if you like to be full after you eat.

Angie C.

Yelp
Weirdest orange chicken I have ever eaten! The texture was not good. HOw can someone mess up orange chicken?
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
Cool spot and hidden gem. Definitely bring my wife back. They give you just enough food to fill your belly but not ap much that you don't want to finish shopping lol. (Gotta finish buy my wife's Christmas Gifts ) Seat yourself when you come in. Scan the barcode for your table and order your meal and pay and they bring it out fresh and in a timely manner. Waiter was very friendly ask for Gary because he Definitely can tell you what you need to get. Not to mention he plays music based on his audience which i thoroughly enjoyed. GARY is warrior and scholar, bathed in the blood of us enemies. From parts unknown. Gary will be opening his new Michelin star restaurant shortly. Although I yet to taste mana form heaven Gary's food is of that quality. I had the Sweet and Sour Sesame Chicken which was freaking awesome. My bud had the Orange Chiken which was ok he said his vegetable spring rolls were ok as well. He was clearly jealous of what I got so if that tells you anything get the SWEET AND SOUR SESAME CHICKEN.

Theron H.

Yelp
The service experience we had was a little unconventional as we didn't see anyone until after we ordered online and had the food brought to our table, but the service was fast and the food was pretty good.

Markus M.

Yelp
You'd have to be drunk to enjoy this. They brought their "specialty dumplings" out frozen. Had the class to bring out another order, but that order was also cold and under cooked. The noodles and chicken are alright. So many better places around.
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
If you want to be left along while eating this place is it! Coming here, I saw the yelp reviews and kind of said why not because I wanted Asian fusion. When you walk in, the sign basically says to pick a spot and use your phone to choose a place. Sat in with no greeting whatsoever. Was not able to get someone to let me know what is popular so I had to pull the yelp app to figure out what to get. I ended up choosing the cheeseburger dumplings and the fried/crispy pork and cabbage dumpling. I also got a lychee, orange juice and vodka drink. Cheeseburger dumpling- This one is fried. I admit this one is very different from other places cause the dumplings they give you is in ball form and pretty small. I like how I was able to taste the cheeseburger. They also gave you a sauce with it however i used the spicy dragon sauce with it cause cheese and spicy is delicious. This is a dish for you if you like something VERY different. Fried/Crispy pork and cabbage dumpling- I admin the dumpling taste great. They all look the same. It came with the dragon sauce cause you are able to choose which one to get. The flavors were slightly there and it actually was not bad. I recommend this one! Drink- The alcohol drink I ordered had lychee, orange juice and vodka. This one was really good! I recommend this one cause you can still taste the alcohol and the fruit. Overall, like I mentioned in the beginning of this review this is a place if you want to be left alone. The customer service was basically non existent except when the person brought out my food and drink. He just handed me the dish and walked away. The flavors were there for the dumplings but not the customer service. However if my friends wanted to try this place I would definitley tell them to check it out. Just the only issue is that if you want someone to provide customer service, good luck.

Brandon K.

Yelp
Overall this is a pretty decent spot to grab a quick bite of Chinese food. I will say that the quality of meat has been hit or miss over the years when it comes to their chicken, but the last few times I've gone it has been better. My favorite dish is the Sweet & Sour Sesame Chicken, but the Orang Chicken is also good. The environment is pretty casual as this location is right next to all of the bars on Rock Rose, so if you're looking for a more calm environment to have a meal then keep in mind that this might not be your best spot. If you want to have a quick meal or get takeout, then this will do the trick.
google avatar

Jack Q.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and ordered Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice and Salt and Pepper Shrimp with Lo Mein noodles. The shrimp was very disappointing - chewy and there wasn't any salt and pepper flavor. Fried rice was hard and flavorless along with the chicken. The only thing that was decent was the lo mein, but really, I would rather just get lo mein from Panda Express. Prices were high for the amount of and the quality of food received. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
google avatar

Bowie L.

Yelp
I hate to be critical but this was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I would rather eat at Panda Express and I'm Taiwanese so that's saying a lot. I got the cheeseburger dumplings and a dumpling combo. The cheeseburger dumplings were decent but the crispy dumplings in the combo were so overfried and the lo mein was just the plainest noodles tossed in sauce. My friend ordered the Thai and Korean pork soup dumplings and the texture and taste was just not good. We literally left some uneaten because they were just not worth it. Maybe their other non-dumpling dishes are better but there are much better options.

Mateo H.

Yelp
Lotus Chinese was a complete disaster. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for hours, stale and flavorless. The service was abysmal; they don't have waiters and the menu is so confusing . The restaurant itself was dirty and uninviting. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all costs.
google avatar

Kailey B.

Yelp
This is pretty okay - food came out cold and just wasn't anything to get excited about
google avatar

Katelyn W.

Yelp
The lotus is a quaint dumpling shop with fantastic food. If you want a unique experience I recommend visiting. The service is impeccable, very little wait.

J B.

Yelp
So good and relaxing! You pick where you want to sit and order using the QR code. We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and people watch. We ordered drinks which both were so refreshing (chili watermelon marg and why can't we all get oolong) We started off with the cheeseburger dumplings (I mean why not) and the pork egg rolls. Both were so light and yumm! The dipping sauces paired nicely. We also ordered the classic pork dumplings and the Spicy Korean Pork (red) dumplings. Both were sooo good! They provides soup spoons too! The spicy does have a kick at the end- but nothing too crazy! After we were full but not stuffed! We will for sure try again! What's better? People watch and dumplings eating
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
The food was terrible and service was bad. Spent almost $7.00 for this dish and I should have returned it. I will never eat here again.
google avatar

Bree S.

Yelp
unfortunately, this is the worst chinese food i've ever eaten. there is something very off about the taste of the food - kind of burnt with no flavor. the people were nice though.
google avatar

Roland D.

Yelp
TLDR: Not terrible, but Austin has so much more to offer for the food, we had chicken Lo mein and orange chicken with fried rice that we shared around the table, as well as some basil and chicken dumplings. overall, the food was just.. meh... There wasn't anything inherently wrong with it, it just wasn't very flavorful, and felt like it wasn't really trying. the service was fine, but the food got brought out in waves (not like they couldn't carry it all at once, which is fine, but like several minutes between). All in all, I didn't feel like we got screwed over, but there are certainly better places to go than here. 2.5/5

Grant G.

Yelp
$15.00 just for a bowl of fried rice and took very very long to get the food served.
google avatar

Tim V.

Yelp
This was a tough one, I really wanted to love this place but it just fell short. The food itself was good but not great, I had fried dumpling (pork) with Noodles. The noodles weren't much better than Panda Express and the dumplings where mediocre as well, lacking in flavor. This place was more of a 3.5 than a 3
google avatar

Colin L.

Yelp
Not only is the food great--bomb Lo Mein, tasty beef broccoli, creative sauces for their great dumpling--the staff are nice even tho they're busy as heck. They are COMMITTED to getting everyone FED both in restaurant and takeout. We had a weird doordash issue where only part of our order showed up; doordasher might've misplaced it, but when I hauled over to the restaurant they offered to just remake it TEN MINUTES FROM CLOSE even though they were sure they gave the order to DD. And they were cool the whole time. This was the closing shift on Sunday 12/04 @management
google avatar

Rio V.

Yelp
Overall, not bad bad but it really missed the mark with flavor. It's like an elevated Panda Express. If you're an introvert then you will love it as all ordering is done through your phone. For me, I like having a waiter for the experience. Spicy noodles missing flavor too. The orange chicken and sweet and sour were ok just needed an extra something.

Amy H.

Yelp
Food portions are very small, food not very good and no service yet they ask for tip- had bathroom paper towels as napkins

Mike H.

Yelp
Great fried rice and sweet / sour chicken. Soup dumplings were terribly overcooked and inedible. If you stick to the "Americanized Chinese restaurant" standards you'll be happy.

Raeanna N.

Yelp
The service was wack no one checked on us through out the whole time. I got orange chicken and the rice was bland also got soup dumplings which was kinda nasty over all I don't recommend
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
The food here is very good but your bathroom is disgusting. A clean bathroom means a clean kitchen. Y'all need to fix this.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
If you are looking to be underwhelmed, this is the place. I had the Rainbow soup dumpllings. The best thing I could say is they were OK and didn't fill me up (at all). I would not expect five small dumplings to do so, but I would also expect to get a little bit more for $11.99. Flavor was no better than premade dumplings I could get at the grocery. Service was also pretty underwhelming. No real greeting or warmth from the person working.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
OMG...this place is AWESOMENESS. A bit pricey but the food was so good I forgot to take a photo. We got a dumpling, fried rice combo and the dumpling soup, both were delicious. We were not going to stop here, but so glad we did.
