Where to Find Terrific Thai Food in San Diego

"Serving since 1999, this Thai restaurant is focusing on its East Village spot, having shuttered its Hillcrest location. With indoor waterfalls and Buddha statues, the ambiance adds a bonus touch to the happy hours and lunch specials. Choose from drunken noodles and a variety of curries. Dinner is equally memorable with chef dishes like sea bass in pesto-lime sauce. Pair with local or Thai beers or their eye-catching cocktails." - Helen I. Hwang

Lunch specials start at $9.95 which includes several curries (with rice), and tofu. Also can choose from several noodle dishes at the same pricing (but no rice). Soup, small salad, and fried egg roll come with each special. You can sub a different protein for $2-4 depending on your choice. The food is delicious. Medium spicy here has a bit of a kick. Service was excellent and when I order unsweetened iced tea (fresh brewed), they give me a carafe or extra glass of iced tea, so I don’t have to ask for refills. Most recent visit they had cover bands for 70s yacht rock playing over the speakers but it was quiet enough to converse. Overall an excellent experience.

It's alright for the money I was just expecting better quality of food. The steak or beef was very hard. The noodle we're great and the curry was just ok. Maybe try a different Thai place around downtown before coming here. The atmosphere is beautiful though.

I really loved the food, ambience and hospitality! Food was delicious! I had Thai food at many restaurants but this one stood out to be the best! Ambience is good as other Thai restaurants! Server was very kind even if I repeatedly asked him not to add any meat and make it 100% vegetarian. He was very polite and assuring and smiling! No complaints! I will definitely come back here!

Everything I expected, and it was excellent! *note: I have a problem with being too excited to try my food before taking a photo. Sorry! Atmosphere: nice restaurant, wonderful music (I call it "coffee shop jazz covers"), clean bathrooms. Service: perfect. I was the only person there right after they opened, but still. There were a few tables by the time I left. The restaurant has a very "open" feel so it's easy to flag down the server if needed. Drink: Lycheetini. Nothing special, doesn't taste very alcoholic. Still sweet and refreshing if you like lychee. $5 on HH Appetizer: BBQ pear beef. On its own, not bad. A bit chewy, but grilled nicely. The small sauce they serve with it is a perfect addition (I say sauce, but it's very thin and mostly soaks in rather than coat the beef). $5 on HH Soup: came with my lunch special. VERY good balance of sweet and spicy (I think it was Tom Yom...) and perfect portion with meal. Odd cup to serve it in however... Salad: it was a small thing that came with my lunch. Never been a fan of any thai place's salad so I'm not worried. Not the reason I came here Veggie Roll: came with lunch. Tough to say with just one, but I was satisfied. Pad thai: the real reason I came (I try Pad Thai ALL over SD). It had what I feel is the perfect amount of sauce in it - just a bit visable on the bottom and the noodles don't stick together. Great flavor, although I feel it may have been just a touch heavy on the fish sauce. Wish they would offer some sort of spice option because it was very mild and I enjoy just a bit of heat when it comes to thai. $9 for chicken option plus egg roll, salad and soup.

Great lunch hour specials. $8 entrees with soup, salad and veggie roll. Took half home! Yellow curry was smooth and perfectly spiced. Parking was bit of an issue so would only return on when not busy around there.

Best Thai food I’ve had in a long time. My brother recommended this place and it was amazing. Lettuce wraps were refreshing and substantial. The pad Thai was very fresh and we tried one of the healthy drinks that started with a P (can’t remember) and it was actually very soothing. Also they had a great atmosphere (I guess other than the TV that was a bit distracting for me). Oh and the mango sticky rice was to die for. If you’re a Thai food fan, you have to try this place!

This is a review for the lunch specials only. I'm not sure how the ala-carte menu is but for lunch specials, this place deserves 4.5 stars! First of all, the lunch specials start from $6.95 and despite the low price, the restaurant doesn't cheap out on quality/quantity of the food or the service. We were in the mood to have a vegetarian meal and got the tofu with eggplant and the pad see ew with tofu. All meals come with a cup of soup, side salad and a crispy fried egg roll. The soup was tom yum I think and nicely tangy and lemongrassy. The salad had lettuce and shredded carrots, which were fresh and not wilted, although I wasnt a fan of the dressing. The main entrees were pretty good; although I felt that the pad see ew had better flavor than the eggplant dish. Couple of things to note: the spiciness of the place is more on the milder side; my medium spicy was less spicy than mild in other places, and, the noodle entrees are less in quantity as compared to the rice + entree. Our server was nice and pleasant without being overbearing. The place did have a kinda weird and unpleasant smell when we entered, which almost made us wanna leave, so minus half stars for that.

Pretty legit Thai eatery. Nothing fancy, but the standard curry and noodle dishes are well done. Mango rice is nicely presented with generous amount of mango.
