"Since 1967, Louis Basque Corner has served family-style staples like oxtail stew and roast lamb (a legacy from a wave of Basque immigrants settling in the city starting in the 19th century)." - Regan Stephens

It is with a heavy heart that I leave a less than stellar review, 35 years in the making. *sigh* This restaurant in my family pre-dates my existence. We are Basque and the only time I've had Basque food is in the little town my family is from, Markina-Xemein. My aunt had her wedding reception here years ago and its been a regular post in my extended families Reno trips ever since. When I moved to Reno, I immediately became the envy of the family because I'd be close enough to have this delicious cuisine at my whim. Wanting my first time to be special, I waited 6 months until my father was able to make the trip to Reno. I locked in our reservations ahead of time. This is a family style restaurant in the most traditional sense, meaning that you are seated with strangers at the same table where you pass plates of food to one another. Great ambiance, great concept, loved it. The first course featured bread and a brightly flavored vegetable barley soup. My grandmother would have loved this soup! The second course was a tangy dressed simple salad alongside some bacon and leek beans as well as the spanish chicken with rice. The salad was much like the ones that are served at my aunt's house, the beans were so delicious and had such a wonderful depth in flavor. Ill discuss the chicken at the end of this review because I want to solely focus on the positive for now. Stay with me. We were also served some of the best French fries I have ever had! My dad had the rack of lamb which was to die for! The texture was perfect, the rosemary flavor was all through the meat, melted in your mouth. I cannot stress the mouthfeel, it can be really difficult to get lamb right. My fiance and I ordered the ox tails. Another amazing dish worth going back for, we joked about drinking the Bourgeois sauce it was served on. Dessert is optional which we did not indulge in so I have nothing to write about that. The reason I am rating the service two stars is because me and my fiance were served bloody chicken. When I quietly and kindly showed the waitress, the only thing she could ask was if it was ok to take our plates away. ....Uh, you don't need to be culinary trained and serve safe certified, like myself, to know you shouldn't eat off of a plate with raw chicken blood on it. Sorely disappointing in how she handled it though we still tipped a loving $45 in cash. What I would have liked to hear from her was an apology and offering a small discount. But no, she couldn't admit fault, she had no sense of customer satisfaction at all. Instead of going home and ruthlessly posting this review in anger, I reached out to the restaurant via their website hoping to discuss further before I posted photos of the bloody chicken they served us but here goes...after a week with no response... Desperately wanting to fall in love with this place as generations of my family have, I will give this place another shot sometime but we won't be having our wedding reception here.

This place serves up excellent traditional style Basque food. I had the lamb chops and they were excellent. The meal came with delicious sides including soup, rice and chicken, salad, beans, French fries and red wine, along with your choice of dessert. I had cheese and grapes, washed down with a little bit of wine. The sides were outstanding—fries were warm and cut from fresh potatoes. The ambiance was fun—the place was packed. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation. Service was great.

We recently had a birthday dinner at Louis' with ten family members. Two of us ordered their 22oz ribeye special for $70 each. For that price we assumed we would be getting a Prime cut of beef. Fine marbling with a few larger strips of fat that could easily be trimmed. Instead, we both got cuts that were the worst we've ever been served in a restaurant. Large bands of fat running everywhere and the quality of the trimmed meat was barely satisfactory. I ate less than one quarter of my steak and took the remainder home. A day later I threw it on my grill and finished getting it to medium rare (a warm red center). After letting it stand for several minutes, I attempted to eat it. I've included a photo of the fat that had to be removed. The fat weighed 7 ounces! When you consider that some fraction of the melted fat would drip away and burn in the grill, this means the large trimmed pieces constituted 1/3 of the PRE-COOKED weight of the steak. There were other issues, such as the poor quality of the table wine, but those issues paled next to the steak issue. Also, my other son ordered a steak and didn't get it. That cost was removed from the bill and he instead had to eat their chicken and rice side dish. We will NEVER eat there again. It is not a value.

Not bad for a five course meal for $45/ person. My wife and I got the shrimp specials which were good, my buddy got the NY strip which was awesome, and the his wife got lamb, which i thought was blah, but I'm not a big fan of lamb. The split pea soup was really good and the 1st course chicken was delicious. The service was fantastic.

Imagine walking into a restaurant that feels more like a joyful family gathering than a formal dining experience. You’re seated with other guests at a long table, and soon you’re sharing laughter, stories, and, of course, an impressive spread of delicious food. Here, there’s no such thing as a ‘stranger’ – just friends you haven’t met yet. The meal starts with warm bread and butter, a crisp vinegar salad, and a comforting chicken rice dish that’s rich, buttery, and full of flavor from the marinated chicken. The chicken itself is tender and moist, falling right off the bone. Then comes a bowl of hearty soup with rice, carrots, and tender meat, bringing all the flavors of home. For my entrée, I chose the oxtail, and wow! It was something special – cooked to perfection with a balance of lean meat and luscious fat, all bathed in a savory broth that felt like a warm hug in every bite. To top it all off, dessert options were pure indulgence. I went for vanilla ice cream with chocolate drizzle, a simple but satisfying end to the meal. But if you want to go all out, they offer a blueberry cheesecake that’s light, creamy, and layered with a sweet-tart berry sauce that’s like fireworks in your mouth. And all this – every bite, every laugh, every shared smile – comes at the price of your chosen entrée. It’s an incredible deal, and an experience you won’t find anywhere else. This is a must-visit, 100% recommend!

Absolutely amazing, the staff went out of their way to go to the store to get pasta because I’m a vegetarian. The veggie pasta dish they made me was amazing. There were about 15 of us, there was an abundance of food and wine, staff were incredible. Everyone who ate meat were very happy with their dishes.

The service was excellent. The person next to us was tapping with their leg up and down. Making the plastic tap the rest of the guest. I asked the bartender if he can move us and He did without question. The rest of the servers were very attentive and on point. The only complaint I had about the food was the soup was a little cold. I really liked the wine and beans. Make sure you try beans and the salad at the same time. It's a basket tradition. I loved the lamb chops and the ribeye I was cooked perfectly. I would recommend ordering the cheese and fruit for dessert. The atmosphere was perfect and I love the family style dining. Thank you for representing the Reno community. Will be coming back often for many years to come.

Yelp
I love oxtail, and this place is perhaps the only restaurant in town that serves this dish. My husband and I were seated next to a bunch of UNR alumni on one side and a couple from the bay area. Dinner dinner conversations were great, and it is always fun meeting and talking with nice strangers! The food is always good here, I love the chicken and beans that came before my oxtail. However, they don't have oxtail everyday, so I had to call ahead to make sure they have it before going there for dinner.

Yelp
This was my first time eating at Louis and I LOVED it. We had a group of 25 go for dinner and I will now only go here for groups that big. They let us buy alcohol separate at the bar and gave a discount for paying in cash. It was the simplest check process I have ever had with a group. The food was DELICIOUS! And everyone left happy and full. This spot is a Reno staple, and I am happy I finally got to experience it.

Jenn S.

Yelp
Went with a large group for a birthday and it was amazing. The food and service was phenomenal and everyone had an amazing time. The family style serving is great for large groups and at Bo time affected the quality of the food. Also stopping in early for a drink at the bar is a must.

Yelp
We came here on the feast day of St. Ignatius to celebrate his Basque heritage! This place has been on our list for a long time, I'm glad we finally got to come. Louis' opened in 1967 and carries on traditions including family-style seating and traditional homemade Basque food. I can see how people would knock down the rating on place like this if they came in expecting a regular restaurant experience. If you know what you're signing up for, it's a fun and unique experience to try! While the family-style seating is a bit uncomfortable since you sit at long tables next to people you don't know, I think it's fine because you are partaking in Basque traditions. However, be aware that it gets quite loud in here because of how close together everyone is sitting; it can be hard to hear your own friends across the table from you. Dinner mostly consists of a fixed menu, you just select which entree you want. Every meal comes with the same side items that are served family-style: red wine, french bread, soup of the day, Basque beans, salad, fries, a first course, and dessert. You can opt for the "no entree dinner" which just comes with the sides listed previously. However, know that you only get a little bit of each item since it's all family style. I'm not sure if they are bottomless refills or if you just get what is served? We were never asked if we wanted more of anything except for the first course (for us, this was a rotisserie chicken). The entree we tried was one of their daily specials, the lamb stew. I thought it was delicious! The broth was rich and flavorful. I don't have lamb very often, it was tender and went well with the broth and veggies it was mixed with. The dish itself was on the smaller side. Entrees that are meat dishes range from $36-48, so it's a little bit pricey. However, this does come with wine, all the sides, and dessert. We got ice cream with hot fudge for dessert. We did not get additional drinks, but they do have other wines to choose from, a full bar for cocktails, and the traditional Basque "Picon Punch" for only $7. Overall, I enjoyed this experience! It was quite unique to most other restaurants in the area. The main downside is how loud it can get, I wish the long tables were a little more spread out to help with this. Service can be kind of slow because of the family-style setup. We asked to speed things up when we realized we'd be cutting it close to an event we were going to afterwards. The waiter was super nice and brought out our check right away and even brought out dessert with our entrees so that we could get through it all quickly without missing anything. I'm glad we got to try this Reno staple!

Yelp
This is awesome! Family style Basque dinners for the whole table - soup, salad, beans, bread, wine, chicken, french fries, WINE, all included. Even if you ordered the "no entree" version you would have a great meal. I had the leg off lamb, which was excellent, my wife had the NY Strip, which was also a great cut of meat. This is a dive bar with a great concept restaurant attached! I will definitely eat here every time I am in Reno!

Yelp
For the huge amount of food provided in this family style restaurant this was actually a great value for our party of 12. Oxtail, prime rib, salmon, lamb, tongue, chicken, as the main dishes. Plenty of salad, beans, soup, bread and your choice of drink. We had table wine. Service was friendly and food service fast. My ribeye was great! Family style means you are sitting close to your friends and new friends around you. Great food with friends is a win-win!

Vicki C.

Yelp
Come hungry! In a quaint corner building with family style seating, you'll enjoy course after course of deliciousness! Reed wine and French bread was already on the table. Then the meal began, starting with the soup of the day (ours was a chorizo/veggie soup with a bite), followed by beans and salad, and rice with chicken, then fries and our main course!!! As if we weren't already full, a choice of hard Jack and grapes or vanilla ices cream with chocolate sauce topped off the meal--along with a glass of Picon Punch. Friendly and attentive service with a smile! Come to Reno for the fun, the play and a FABULOUS meal at Louis'!!

Yelp
If you have never enjoyed Basque cuisine, then you are missing out! The Basque region is a small area between Spain and France. They grow a lot of sheep. So get ready for some lamb. (Lamb is not really gamey. It is neither beef nor pork. It is delicious! Try it! Don't expect beef. Beef is on the menu.) Every meal is a three course meal. The wine is included. You get bread, a soup, salad, an entree and a dessert. It is served family style. Expect to sit with people you don't know. Talk with them! You just might learn something important or you might just learn some garbage that you have heard from your uncle Dwain. A few years ago this restaurant was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It has not lost its charm since the broadcast date. If I wasn't so full, I'd return tomorrow.

Yelp
Had a fantastic experience at Louis' Basque Corner - my first time trying Basque cuisine. Dinner is served family style, which means you might share a table with other parties. It worked out great since I met some friendly locals. Everyone orders their own entree (or can skip it if they want), but there is bread, soup, salad, wine, chicken, rice, and fries to share. Those alone could be a meal if you want, but the entrees were the real highlight. I had the oxtails, which were phenomenal. Slowly stewed with wine and veggies, they were tender and full of flavor (similar to French boeuf bourguignon). The chicken & rice was close behind, and so was the beef tongue (sampled from a neighbor). Highly recommended!

Carrie S.

Yelp
Although Basque cuisine isn't my preferred choice, it exceeded my expectations. The picon punch was well-received, and the family-style chicken, beans, salad, and bread were served alongside our varied main courses, including filets, chicken, and tongue. Our hosts were accommodating, and the service was of high quality, contributing to a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
This is one of the hardest reviews I've ever done. I wanted to give it two stars, but the food was good even if I disliked the service and atmosphere. Apologies in advance for some of my photos. The lens fogged up on the inside of the case asnd it took time to clear. This dinner was planned for our final night in Reno. It was served family style--something I thought I wouldn't see again once I left the east as a teen. Everything was set except the main course. There were three choices--lamb, shrimp, and steak. We were brought bowls of soup which we ladled out for our table mates. During this time, we also received a tossed salad that could have used more dressing. Then came a dish of rice with chicken. We were also brought plates of French fries. Finally, we were brought our main course. I was handed a large platter with sliced lamb covered in gravy. Naturally, I took some. However, the server later told me that I had taken someone else's lamb because the main course was chosen and I had ordered shrimp. As it turned out, there was leftover lamb from our table so no one went without because of me. There were 38 in our party and we were at three or four tables in a crowded room. The noise level was high which added to my dislike of the meal. I expected we would have a hearty Basque stew or something different. Instead, we had a dinner I could get in almost any restaurant serving lamb save for the rice with chicken. I was glad when the meal was over and we could get out of the noise.

Yelp
Always a fantastic experience with great food & service!! Would recommend this local Reno restaurant to anyone!!

Judith G.

Yelp
The food is authentic Basque food. It was served family style the night I was there. The beans and sausage was a great dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The French fries were the crispiest I have had. The salad was fresh and plentiful. The service was proficient, personable and professional. The ambiance was cozy, family oriented and clean in this old home co vetted into a multi room restaurant.

Tori Y.

Yelp
What an interesting dining experience! You are seated and served family style, sharing the serving plates for all but your main course. My husband and I got the sweetbread (calf thyroid gland) and the sirloin for our mains and then indulged in the cheesecake. While the experience was a fun way to change up a dinner date, I would say the food was only okay. The service was amazing, though, Ally took such great care of us and made us feel like we were family out at a restaurant.

Sydnye H.

Yelp
I haven't been here since I was a kid and honestly forgot what the experience was, but I was pleasantly surprised. After searching for parking we got lucky with a spot. It's a little hard to find during busy times, but worth it imo. If you have a reservation, go early so that you don't miss your time! Speaking of reservations, its better to have one. You can make it online I believe. We walked in without one, but as a party of two they were able to squeeze us in. Dinner is served family style so be ready to sit with strangers. Its a good way to meet new people. We were put at a table with 4 other people. Dinner has several courses including soup, salad, beans, chicken, bread and your choice of entree. It also comes with red wine! It is all included in the price of the entree. I chose the special ribeye and my husband had the roast leg of lamb. Both were perfectly cooked and very generous portions. We were completely full and satisfied. There are a couple included dessert options, but I recommend spending the extra 10 bucks for the Basque cheesecake! Its rich and creamy, perfect for sharing. This was a great experience and I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Two of us visited on a Sunday evening. And the place was quite busy. It does have its own parking lot but very limited in space. It is quite unique in its family style seating where you share a long table with other guests, assuming you didnt come in as a part of a larger party. You get to pick your entree and the dessert, but otherwise the other items are set. They brought out bread and butter to start us off. Bread was soft and fresh. The bread was followed by tomato soup, which was alright. It was followed by rice with chicken, salad, fries and basque beans. The rice with chicken was quite good. The salad and the beans were mediocre. I did like fries. I ordered lamb chops and my girlfriend went with sirloin steak, rare for both. The entrees were ok. Nothing to write home about. I ended with meal by ordering the $10 dollar cheesecake, which was decent. The pros of the restaurant is that the family style seating is something of a novelty in Reno. The service was good. And we liked the interior ambience. The meal wasn't cheap, at $93 for two. And we walked away finding the food themselves quite unmemorable. Not a bad restaurant but nothing here that entice us want to give it a 2nd visit.

Anne M.

Yelp
Save your money and time, this is no longer the famed basque dining experience it once was, not even close. Absolutely one of the worst dining experience's in Reno I've had, period. Used to love coming here, other than historic location it's completely changed and gone downhill. Keeping it short; terrible waiter and service, lukewarm over salted food topped by hard molded cheese at dessert. And not the good molded cheese either, I'm familiar with Dry Jack . Waiter was beyond ineffective. Asked to speak to manager, not in house on weekend evenings. Come for a Picon, leave for dinner plans anywhere else to enjoy your evening.

Laura A.

Yelp
This place has large portions however the food is a miss and the service rushed. The hostess convinced us to sit at a sparse table (communal) with only one other couple but it quickly filled in with several others. They serve family style - bread, red wine carafe, soup, stewed beans, salad, stewed chicken, crispy fries and your choice of ice cream or dry Jack cheese with grapes for dessert. All this is $25 per person and entrees are an additional $20-35 that come with the same family style dishes as well as another main course. We tried the lamb chops for $46. You get two bone-in chops that unfortunately tasted like pork shoulder, not lamb. There was gristly fat and not much flavor. I can't recommend them despite what other reviewers may have commented. The food comes out quickly and the service is rushed. What should be a leisurely meal felt a little like a cow trough. The red clam soup was watery and the clams were lacking, just a few potatoes and tomatoes in red broth. The salad is iceberg lettuce and cherry tomatoes with a vinaigrette. The stewed beans had a few slices of sausage. The stewed chicken was probably the best dish and came with tomatoes and pepper, thighs and drumsticks. The red wine was reminiscent of cheap box wine. The dessert tasted like ice milk with Hershey's chocolate sauce. The aged jack cheese and grapes were okay. They offer cheesecake as a dessert option for $10 additional. We sat next to another couple on one side who made interesting conversation and a daughter/father on the other who were big fans of basque food throughly enjoyed their meal. Our meal came to around $80 without any of the up-charges for beverages and other desserts. I really like the concept of basque family-style meals but unfortunately the food is mediocre at best.

R D.

Yelp
In my opinion. The worst steak I ever had. Horrible taste. I ordered the 10oz medium steak. Would never go back. Service was good.

Jason U.

Yelp
Family dining on connect tables, you are "elbow to elbow" with fellow diners. The staff is friendly and plenty of food served as multi-courses prior to main meal. Very friendly

Mary G.

Yelp
We came in for lunch as part of our 2023 #lovewhereyoulive tour of Nevada. It was a new experience for the kids and a new spot for all of us. The kids RAVED about the food - especially the soup, beans, and salad! They also made several unprompted comments about the great service. My sirloin was cooked perfectly well-done like I requested. Our son didn't specific that he wanted his burger well-done also, and they made it right for him. I am so glad we stopped in and had the experience and the delicious meal together!!

Lynn D.

Yelp
This Basque restaurant is a Reno institute. Located downtown it's not in the safest area and parking is a challenge but the food is worth the challenges. The interior is charming-feels like you stepped back into the 50's. Seating is at long tables, family style. Dinners come with a complimentary glass of red wine but there's also a full bar. Entrees include steaks, lamb chops and sweetbreads. We opted for the dinner with no entree and started with split pea soup. Subsequent courses were salad, French fries, beans and chicken. The servers will bring you more of anything that you ask for. French bread with butter is a great accompaniment to the meal. Complimentary dessert is choice of grapes and cheese or vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. It's a fun experience and I always meet interesting people there. Hope this restaurant is around for many more years.

Gabbi H.

Yelp
Louis's doesn't look like much on the outside, but it's a Reno staple and honestly, a Nevada staple. I can't believe it took me 5 years to finally got eat Basque food! Here's what you need to know about the experience: For a big group, definitely make a reservation. For just my husband and I, we were able to walk in and get seated. There's no typical hostess stand, so we awkwardly waited by the door until we finally decided to ask the bar tender--who was very helpful. If you're a small group of 2-4 people, you'll likely get seated at a long table with other groups of people. Basque food is all about family-style dining! So, you'll be passing around the salad bowl, the wine, etc. You do choose your main meat (and you can order a few to share). The moral of the story is: be prepared to make new friends. Basque food is especially good when you need a hardy meal and really want to spend quality time with friends and family. And I definitely recommend Louis' when you're in Reno.

Raymond L.

Yelp
This the only great basque restaurant in town when we had many and now we are down to one. Nonetheless I'm very glad this the last one standing in Reno. As was before this restaurant was and is always very busy and there's a very good reason that's the case. They have continued to serve wonderful food now as before. The full meal starts with a soup, I've had minestrone, barley and new england clam chowder before and they all don't disappoint. Then a simple but delicious green salad dressed in oil and vinegar, baked beans cooked with chorizo makes a great accompaniment for the salad. Next came a chicken and converted rice dish, I normally have my opinions of converted rice but I actually liked the way they cooked this. French fries came also, french fries the way it should be cooked crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Then came the main course that I ordered oxtail. That's the reason why this place is still in business and hopefully for a long long time, because their food stands on their own, simply consistent and outstandingly great.

James B.

Yelp
What a shame an old tradition of family and friends has gone so far downhill. This was always our go to with friends and special occasions. Now just another over priced over hyped foodie disappointment. Bar tender acted like he was doing us a favor by getting us drinks absolutely no personality. Waiter was the same and felt very much like he was rushing us to order. 3 ordered rib eye special 1 filet mignon off menu Soup was cold , i mean barley above room temp Next course beans were warm but not hot, salad was good as was the chicken. Entrees came while still eating salad course. We were not offered freash plates and left to eat of the small salad platez. 3 of the 4 steaks were under cooked and mine was ice cold before i could flag down anybody to even ask for horseradish. Had to flag the bartender from the bar to get drink refills. Waiter only came back with the check. Buss boy was polite tho. 350 bucks for cold under cooked food crappy service and none of the jolly atmosphere that this place had been known for. To top it off they now have an undisclosed credit card fee that appears on the bill or pay cash . This is the second place both local owned that have tried this and from now on I believe ill just pay the fee and let the server know that the fee is the tip and take it up with management. Jts and the Martin will now get my business

Yelp
I saw this place on Diners, Drives, and Dive-ins so of course I had to check it out since we were in town. We went for lunch and it wasn't crowded so we sat down right away. With the meal comes a kraft of Red wine, soup, a salad, and Chorizo and beans. All the items are sharable dishes for the table. Three other people sat down at are table so they also shared the dishes. There was plenty of food so that was good. The soup was Red Clam chowder and it was delicious. The taste was great, and plenty of clams in the soup. The salad had a vinaigrette dressing which was tasty. The beans with chorizo was out of bounds. Plenty of flavor, and cooked perfect. We ordered the pork chops, the Beef Tongue, the oxtails, and the lollipop lamb chops. All the dishes were cooked perfect, they were tender and juicy, with great flavor. We also tried the sweetbreads which was cooked good and great flavor. The table next us ordered the Louis Fries and the Leg of lamb and they let us try those dishes. The Louis fries were ridiculously great. The flavor of the meat, the sauce, and plenty of fries. The leg of lamb was cooked perfect and tender. All of the dishes were great and I would go back there and order them again. The service was was also excellent. Looking forward to going back to Reno just to eat here again.

Kelli C.

Yelp
The food was good, but we were definitely taken advantage of with the price. First we were charged for items we didn't order. We did check and have one taken off, but we weren't thorough until we got home to divide up our bill. We were charged more than what we received to about $35. Then because we had 6 people, they added a 20% tip including the tax. Tips should not be on the tax but on the food bill. We are good tippers, but this wasn't right.... So just be aware with the bill.

Wendy S.

Yelp
First time coming here! Haven't had Basque food before and was a fun family style experience. Was fun meeting other people on our table and felt very communal. We did come late to closing so it could be our fault. The food which I had ordered did come uncooked but also could have been because since I came late. The appetizers were all so good and filing, loved the soup especially. I also enjoyed the cheese and melon dessert, such a fun item on the menu. Wish I had ordered the basque cheesecake but that will be next time. The staff was amazing and exceptional, were super helpful when I sent my food back.

Thomas A.

Yelp
We get the pleasure of stopping here about once a year, it is ALWAYS the absolute best, best food, best service, immaculate spot. Wish I could move this closer to home.

Todd E.

Yelp
Food was good, just never been told to leave because another reservation needed our table. They may need to speed up their service if they tell people to leave before they are ready.

Lee D.

Yelp
Family style meals, good value. Quality/Quantity - Pre Fixe lunches, see menu pictures for specifics. All lunches served family style with the following: Soup of the day - split pea today with nice chunks of ham, one of the highlights of the meal. French Bread - taste as if they bought it from a supermarket, Safeway? If you warmed it up, it would taste so much better. Beans - okay. Salad - nope, this was our least favorite. We ate almost none of it... French Fries which you can add garlic fries for only $2 more - another HIT of the meal. Complimentary glass of house wine - another HIT!! The wine was actually really good, but a little early to be drinking. Or complimentary soda - very generous size, like 24oz cups; mostly everyone could not finish this either. In summary, the quantity exceeded our expectations. They offered refills on the above, but there was no way we could eat any more. We ordered the following: Two 7 oz top sirloin steaks - mine was almost perfect. I would have preferred it a little more rare, but still very good, and of course I finished it 2 roast leg of lamb - I did not get to try this dish because I was just too full, but none was left behind either so it must have been good. Special - oxtail, another HIT; so tender and meaty. Very generous portions. Picon Punch - I wanted to try this as well, maybe next time as I had more wine than I should for a lunch engagement... Other food options: Daily Specials Dinner Bar Menu To-go menu including a family style dinner for 4 menu Wine list Atmosphere - Fairly large place, bar in entrance, kitchen in rear, and bathrooms in the middle of the building. Small wine cellar. When we arrived at noon, it was more of a "bar" scene, almost all of their customers were drinking at the bar and with no food. Free parking in the lot next to the building. 2013 - upstairs renovated from boarding rooms into a bar and banquet space. Service - Good, too aggressive on wanting to clear our tables, maybe they were trying to get off work after the lunch rush? Price - $197 which includes the mandatory 18% tip for our group of 7; the 3 year old was free. :) Owner Suggestion - Congrats on your success to the founders, Louis and Lorraine Erreguible, since 1967 and to the new owners, Chris Shanks and Brian Elcano. What happened to the servers outfitted in authentic Basque costumes?

Yelp
We went to Louis' for dinner the Sunday before Thanksgiving (22nd) and to celebrate an early birthday. Our party of four had reservations but we got there early and seated ourselves at the bar, even though we were offered a table in the dining room. We had piçon punches and wine and the bartender "comped" most of them, since we were playing blackjack. In the dining room, we chose three entrees and one "non-entree" option. The leg of lamb was well prepared and lean and delicious. I had the shrimp in a cream sauce, which I shared with my wife. There were about 12 shrimp which were well-cooked and enough to share. We had forgotten the "first course" included chicken Vasquez, which was very, very good. In fact, when we go back again., which we will, we may just used the first course as our entree! It was very much like a chicken cacciatore, which I love. I recommend the small cheesecake for dessert. Service was excellent and and the wait staff were very attentive. The icing on the cake, however, was my daughter-in-law in advertently left her purse there. At 5:00AM this morning when taking them to the airport to travel abroad, she notced her purse missing. After ruling out all other hising places, we concluded she left it there at the restaurant. At about 11:00 this morning, my wife called and left a message on their voicemail, since the restaurant didn't open today until 5;00PM. Shortly thereafter, she got a call from Craig who said the had her purse in his office and he would be there for about an hour. He gave my wife his cell phone number and I drove there from my gym, called his number and within 30 seconds he was at the front door with the purse!!! I thanked him profusely and told him how delicious the food was and about our overall experience. Louis' Corner hit it out of the ballpark and we will definitely be going back again and tell all our new neighbors they need to go there and have a truly Nevadan experiance. Thank you Craig, staff and all those at Louis' Basque Corner.

Yelp
we went here last evening for dinner, to celebrate my sons 40 th birthday. Overall, the place was a big disappointment, First of all, we had a very early 5 pm dinner. There was no others at dinner. The waiter seated us at a table and then promptly seated 4 strangers at the same table., This was not unexpected, but with no others in the place why cram us in to the same small space? There must have been 50 seats available at other tables. in the regard, the tables were very small and there was no place to actually eat with all the dishes on the table, It was not very pleasant. The food was plentiful, but not heated, this included the fries, the soup, the rice with chicken, the beans. All served luke warm. the main course, for me was a ribeye, steak, the others all had lamb. I asked for a medium rare steak, but mine came raw and it was tough, a low grade cut of meat, it was nicely charred but it was difficult to cut and chew. the desert was ice cream and it too , came warm, mostly melting. Is this typical of a Basque meal? for a $60 steak mine was barely eatable. what a disappointment. others had lamb and said it was good, So I guess I made a mistake, and Basques do not eat steak. or heated food. Service was ok but spotty. I wont be going back to this place, once was enough.

Yelp
The place is nothing short of awesome. If you have not tried Basque cuisine it is time to be seated family style. Each time I get to have dinner I meet new patrons. Their stories are incredible. Some put my stories to shame and some of mine involve skydiving, scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, Motorcycles and Classic Cars at Hot August Nights along with visits to the various Cat House. My seat mates and their spouses are even better. Go

Yelp
A friend and I went there today for lunch to try it out. We ordered Shrimp scampi and "lamb Lollipops. The "lamb lollipops" were not in any way "lamb Lollipops". My experience with these are that they are small and completely Lamb. What we received for $36.00 was three large FATTY lamb chops with hardley any meat, just fat. When we mentioned it to the waiter, Shawn, he stated that he had asked us if everything was ok and we had said yes. I'm sure he could see they were all fat. Very disappointed and will not go back.

Yelp
Good wholesome home cooked comfort food. Lots of tables but it fills up quick. Great for large parties if you get in early.

Yelp
What a charming little place. We were visiting from out of town, stopped here for brunch/early lunch. Place opens at 11 am and they start serving lunch at 11:30 am. We sat at the bar and by 1130am, this place was already hopping with people. Clearly a favorite of the locals, some of the cocktails are from the Basque origin and are quite popular. If you're not much of a drinker and find yourself in this bar, do not worry! Their food is just fantastic. We ordered from the bar menu, the chicken sandwich with a side of soup and , the chorizo sandwich with a side of garlic fries. Everything was just amazing. We will definitely be back to try out their lunch and dinner menus at some point, as the local spoke highly of their food. A local gem, highly recommend checking it out

Yelp
One of the most unique dining experiences. The food was really delicious, and the "family style dining" meant that we got the opportunity to chat with our fellow diners. Check it out!

Yelp
Everything was delicious! My friend and I split the bone in ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. All of the family style sides ( soup, beans, fries, chicken, salad ) were perfectly done as well. Service was fantastic as well. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Yelp
Louis is a great basque restaurant and bar! The service is always great at this place. If you're here, I highly recommend ordering a picon drink! Now, if I'm going to be honest with the food! Overall it's good, all the side dishes before your main entree is always delicious. It's always different every week so I would highly recommend calling ahead. They usually start with soup, salad, beans, chicken/meat side dish, entree, french fries and dessert! It's a lot!! Their entree are a little inconsistent for me, there are times when it's perfect but there have been times when the entree comes a little cold or over done. But, overall it's a great place to bring your family and friends.

Yelp
Review: Louis' Basque Corner or Reno, been in business since 1967. And before I start, let me tell you my husband has lived in Spain for seven years and is a chef so is very familiar with the food. We tried to go to this restaurant a year ago and it was so packed we left so for his birthday today he wanted to go. Now my review will start. First, I called yesterday for a reservation. They told me for just two people since it's communal dining You don't need a reservation. We got there today and the first thing they asked is do you have a reservation? when I told her that I called and they said I didn't need one, She literally said well that's not true. No one would say that here And that's how it started.. What Juan calls a big scam of Reno to the people who don't really know what real basque food is. Let's start with the basics. The silverware was really cheap and bendable. The water glasses are plastic. The napkins are paper. Normally takes 2 to 3 hours to eat basque food real basque meals are usually 7 to 8 courses long we were told because of how busy they are we had to be in and out in an hour and 15 minutes , the soup was clam chowder, which is not basque at all no other soup options from Spain or basque were offered they bring it out to you in a very small bowl . There is so little soup in the bowl you only get one ladle to put in your bowl , the salad looks like Olive Garden salad except it doesn't have the traditional basque ingredients like white, asparagus, olives, etc. in traditional bask restaurants, some kind of meat like prosciutto is served or cheese. the beans is chorizo beans & it had no chorizo in it, the chicken and rice that they serve before the meal was flavorless we will say the chicken was tender. However, in a real basque restaurant rice is served with rabbit not chicken Then the menu is so small that they only give you a few options and most of them are not basque but they do read you five specials but they don't tell you the prices. I had the prime rib. I also want to say if you remember, I spent 16 years in the food and beverage industry. My prime rib came out with just the prime rib on a plate no side dish, no vegetable no potato of any kind - prime rib is not a Basque food item . It wasn't even served with Ajou, no nothing. The Price $60.00 The food was not Basque. They did have oxtails which was really good and tender, but served inappropriately for a basque restaurant. The table cloths are Pizza Hut checkered the bread which was never refilled was served in a cheap basket and it was like a loaf of French bread that you buy for a dollar at Walmart and slice it the butter was frozen butter pats , then when the waiter explained how it would work one of the courses that you get, are you ready for this french fries a plate of french fries we watched them being delivered at every table. Juan started laughing because that is not a basque food so why are they serving french fries which by the way we never did get ours Then all the desserts one of the options is cheesecake. I think Juan almost spit out his water because cheesecake is not basque It's an American thing. The service and the ambience and the environment and the culture of the restaurant is not basque at all no music playing from basque country. Nothing . Then we get the bill and $150 for two people with nothing upgraded nothing extra added Overall, we were extremely disappointed. It was so bad. It was almost laughable. We do not recommend Louis' Basque corner of Reno. It is really awful.

Yelp
Had my first ever dining experience here last night. I didn't realize when they said family style that wasn't just how they served the food that it also meant sharing a table amongst strangers. Which sounds cool but with the whole covid thing it's a bit uncomfortable to be so close to ppl you don't know. It worked out fine but just wanted to give any fellow new comers that heads up. Here You simply order any entree from the menu and it automatically comes with soup, salad, bread, chicken and rice, French fries and an ice cream. Oh and a free carafe of red house wine. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare but on the menu it states a 10 oz for $45 and we were told upon ordering it is now a 5 oz for $45.. so basically they cut it in half but didn't lower the price. Which is a drag bc you see what you could've gotten previously for your buck.. an updated menu would help. Last nights soup was a vegetable, it was good for dipping your bread in, pretty salty for me but had good flavor. Crispy fries, and hot beans. The salad was the downer, it was wilted and had some brown spots on the lettuce. We didn't really eat it. The chicken and rice was tasty, everyone in my party enjoyed it. I tried the leg of lamb as well and I liked the sauce it came with. I have never had lamb cooked that way before. But it was good. Had to try the famous picon punch cocktail and I really enjoyed it, it is strong though so watch out! A different type of dining experience but fun overall.

Yelp
Went there for the first time recommended by a friend to celebrate another friend's going away party. Menu itself is a bit different than any other restaurant. But interestingly enough, each of us tried Specials of the night. I tried Beef tongue specials, and for a $31 dinner, it was well spent. Before the main course, there are so many side dishes all of us enjoyed with a couple rounds of red wine on the house. Overall it was a great experience, and both the food and services are excellent. Will definitely come back for more of this dining experience in the near future.

Yelp
Worth eating at for a group dinner. I didn't love the food, but it's an experience. Just not my type but I'd go here with tourists. Try it once!

Darrel S.

Yelp
In my opinion, the best Basque you'll find for hundreds of miles! In typical Basque fashion, it can be a bit loud as the seating is family style, but that's part of the fun, right? Incredible menu!!

Yelp
So back again to Louis!! I love this place. Except this time a few things were way off!! They cooked other people's steaks who wanted medium rare. To way over done. Like medium well. Barely any color in the middle!! The other ordered Filet. Which was suppose to be medium rare. It was still kicking!! Finally I ordered the rabbit so did my dad!! It was over done dry and so much salt that I couldn't eat it!! I hope you guys get your stuff back together!!

Yelp
Very delicious dinner. This was the second time eating here, and it was much better the second time around. The vegetable soup was so yummy. The new York steak was cooked to perfection. The fries were hot and fresh. Others in the party ordered the sweet breads, leg of lamb, and the special of the day, the prime rib. I tried the basque cheesecake, which was not included in the family style meal. It was only $10 dollars to add to the meal. I'm not too sure how I feel about the basque cheesecake as it is not your typical creamy style cheesecake but was still decent. There was also an option for grapes and cheese as well as the vanilla ice cream. I will definitely be back for the family style dinner but also plan on sitting at the bar next time to try the bar menu as there are several items that look delicious that I wish to try
