40 New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"As the companion sandwich shop to neighborhood bar Happy Medium, I found Lou’s Deli operating weekdays with a grab-and-go focus that stocks cocktails, wine, beer, and slushees and serves East Coast favorites like a NYC chopped cheese, chicken or eggplant parm sandwiches, Japanese egg sando on milk bread, a Waldorf chicken salad wrap, and hearty breakfast hoagies stuffed with eggs, sausage, bacon, tater tots, cheese, and pickled jalapeno aioli." - Candice Woo

I’m super disappointed in Lou’s deli lately. We’ve been going here for a while since it’s right down the street. Honestly though, ever since the place blew up online, the quality feels like it’s gone downhill. I’ve always ordered the chicken Caesar wrap, but the last two times it’s been pretty disappointing — barely any chicken and hardly any dressing. The sandwiches also seem noticeably smaller than they used to be. I really hope they prioritize improving their quality.

Chopped cheese was good enough for me to order it again. The pickle beer was really good and they said they sell six packs. The window setup is convenient and the employees were nice and helpful. Lou’s is only open for 4 hours over lunch so it can be busy, but my food was ready in about ten minutes.

Sandwiches are a notable part of the food culture in NJ where I grew up so I'm always looking for another good sandwich place. I was excited when my Google Maps search of "sandwich" showed a new place I had not tried before. Here's my honest review: Drinks very good. Atmosphere very cool and comfortable Staff ok. North Park hipster'esque businesses tend to have a noticeable "too cool for school attitude" which doesn't come off friendly or hospitable. Lou's staff was a bit cooler than the norm but could overall provide a better experience. Food two thumbs down! I ordered the pastrami sandwich, double meat. There was so much mayo & mustard that the pastrami was lost which may be the restaurants way of attempting to disguise the quality of the pastrami. The meat was chewy, dry and fatty (not in a good way). I'm biased to the high-quality pastrami found in NJ & NYC deli's where the meat is tender, flavorful and tastes amazing on its own. This sandwich was not good... I recommend the owner go to Milton's in Del Mar and eat their pastrami & corned beef sandwiches which are top quality for San Diego County. I gave an extra star because they made a good decision to give me my sandwich for free because it took so long and they were half full. This all being said, I always give new restaurants a 2nd chance so I will go back in a few months to try a few of the other sandwiches on the menu.

Walked up for lunch at 2:30 before they closed and service was pretty quick. Got the chicken parm sandwich and it was delicious. Chicken cutlet was crispy and so tender. Vodka sauce was delish and I wish there was more on the sandwich because it was very flavorful. The bread was crunch and soft. Would get again!

I had high hopes for this place but both the service and food were lackluster. It’s a walk up spot so I wasn’t expecting anything crazy service wise but there was no one behind the register for almost 10 min. We got the chopped cheese and Siberian train wreck. Both had a lot of meat, which was nice. However they lacked seasoning, as in all you could taste was salt and not in a good way. Also pretty expensive, I’ve had better sandwiches for the same price. Unless they season their food better I won’t be returning.

I don’t usually write Detailed reviews but I feel like this one needs it. I got the following -potato salad -Mac salad -fries -super beef Paid around 35 dlls not bad at all price wise, service was great that’s mostly why I’m giving it 3 starts. The food was alright? The potato salad was overly mustard that I was only able to have one bite the Mac salad on the other side was really good unfortunately the noodles were extremely undercooked and hard, the sandwich was ok. My kid did love the fries. Overall this place has the potential to be great just needs to tweak a few things.

Their kale Caesar salad wrap with chicken cutlet is one of my favorites for lunch now!

I would post a picture of the chopped cheese but my bf and I devoured it! At first I was hesitant about the pricing but the sandwich was enough for two to share easily. The cashier was very friendly and warm, she gave us waters and dill pickle popcorn while we waited for our sandwich. We were excited to see a different menu thats East coast inspired in north park. It looks like a takeaway counter but you can sit on the patio next door and enjoy your food. Happy to support a new locally owned business that’s not the usual overplayed, consortium owned, bougie, influencer vibe.
