Why I'll go back: Because I LOVE the entire experience of a poke bowl and these people know how to do it right!
You HAVE to order: Whatever suits your fancy that day. Right now, they've got nine house curated bowls (but the ability to make your own), plus 13 Makirittos. So, as they (used to) say, you do you.
Tony's Tip: There's only one guy working right now, which is probably fine because...COVID. But if things ever pick up again, you're gonna wanna hit this place on the early side of lunch or do a preorder online for pickup.
I have been stalking this place for, ummm, at least a year! There isn't a single place in Downtown Crossing or the Financial District where you can get a quality poke bowl to go. So when I saw the window teasers last year for a POKE by Love Art moving into the renovated Congress Square building, I thought, "Finally, I can get my fix!."
Well, "finally" lasted a year thanks to the pandemic and I'm sure some other factors. But in mid-January, the doors finally opened. The interior space isn't entirely finished, and it's set up to mostly be a takeout spot. But they got the important stuff up and running - a bright digital board with great photos of the menu, a clean and streamlined ordering space...and an endless mix of poke combinations. Prices run about $1-2 more than a Sweetgreen salad, which I would say is well worth it.
My inaugural buy was the Fenway Special - a classic bowl that more than hit the spot. My wife had the Volcano Spice, which she said was good, but a bit heavy for lunch. I see no reason why I can't work my way through the entire list before Winter is over. Now, go get your fix!
