"This is the store where the creatures meet
I wonder what they do in there..."
I'm always down to try a place named after a classic rock song. Moreso when it slings delicious craft cocktails.
I've long been a fan of Victor Bar, which is dark, sexy, and serves a mean drink, so I was pretty sure I would like its sultry, but slightly farther south sibling. Even though it's in Lincoln Park, it's mercifully free from Miller Lite-swilling brodudes. No lazy diamond studded flunkies either. At least not yet.
Cocktails, as expected, are very appealing. We tried a total of 4 cocktails:
Coral Reef - Pineapple Rum, Aperol, Bitter Grapefruit, Lemon, Cane
Tropical and well-balanced
Clover Club - Gin, lemon, raspberry, simple syrup.
And although not listed, made with an egg white. As it should be.
Great cocktail.
Fire in the Hole - poblano chile, Mezcal, Pineapple, Lime, Agave,
Cucumber, Absinthe Spray
I've been coming around to mezcal cocktails lately. This was smoky, citrusy, and just sweet enough. Definitely packed a punch.
Sazerac - rye, cognac, demerara, Peychaud's, Angostura, Absinthe
Beautifully calibrated; you can never go wrong with a classic. The addition of the absinthe "rinse" gave it a unique flavor.
Cocktails obviously take more time than ordering a beer or a glass of wine. You should plan to linger long on Love Street. Deal with it. Why are you ordering a beer anyway? Also, there's no food. You come here to drink. Plan ahead.
"I guess I like it fine so far."
Highly recommend.
