Lovecraft

Very cool spot popular with an indie crowd. Brick walls, interesting decor with oil paintings depicting horror author H.P. Lovecraft and his characters. There's a spacious basement for movie screenings and live concerts. Brunch was good, service attentive.

Nice place with great aesthetics and good food. The music kind of killed the atmosphere/mood. It was just modern pop music. Even some moody instrumentals would have really added to the vibes of this place.

Left a LOT to be desired for a Lovecraft fan. Food was mediocre, drinks / selection not great. Staff only vaguely knowledgeable any any of his works. Only good thing here was the decor. Very cool decor.

Cupcake from hell is soooooooo delicious. Also, decor is brilliant. Cash only, however.

Calling this place Lovecraft is like calling a hardware store Tolkien. The night was full of horrors, loud radio music, Telemundo telenovelas on big screens, $18 cocktails, cash only, oh and a few gratuitous steampunkish elements to the decor thrown in. It's like the owner went insane while modelling the place. Avoid it at all costs.

Just wish their prices were better. You're paying for the atmosphere, sure, but a tad too much. Their aged and flavored whisky is nothing special, and is much cooler in concept than practice. Two downstairs are rooms are great, but I love the back room (straight from the staircase and then to the left) much more than the room on the right.

Right from the decor, this place grabbed me. I went with my fiance and two of our friends. I ordered the stuffed shrimp with the risotto. It wasn't a lot of food but it was filling. The absinthe drinks are what to watch out for. They definitely sneak up on you. We tried all eight and the shooters were the strongest. The only downside was the waitress was alone on the floor so it took a while for her to get to us. Once she did, she was very friendly and attentive.

Dropped in here last week to check it out based on a picture from facebook of a sugar cube ON FIRE and the promise of interesting absinthe-based concoctions. Lovecraft does not disappoint in that area. The drink I had was potent and very good. My companions were also well-pleased with their drinks. The vodka infusions are the bomb. There's an upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs there's a small stage and mic and at any moment someone is going to break out into song. Other than that I like the downstairs space much better. Neither area is very large, so it will either get crowded quick or being a bar on the quieter side with small pockets of chill conversation. We'll see how it shapes up. Even all the way on Ave B I can see myself coming by here again. I want to see what else they'll set on fire!
