The cult-favorite is back, now in Monte Vista, with naturally leavened sourdough pies that draw steady lines. Lauded by local critics in 2025, it’s a small operation with big flavor and personality.

Yes the hype is for a good reason. This is my first new haven style pizza and I am hooked. Thin and crispy with an ever so slight chew. Delicious vibrant tomato sauce with the perfect mix of Italian herbs. Simply put, delicious. I highly recommend making the trip but get there early because they do run out. I recommend joining the line around 1430 and bringing a friend so they can sit at a table while you finish in line when they open at 1500.

One bite, every body knows the rules! This place got so popular with 8.1 score Dave Portnoy gave the pizza. Had the margarita and pepperoni. Pepperoni was the best but I’d give it a 7.8. If you want to try it get there 45 minutes before they open. Did not like the garlic bread.

Just so happened to go here at 6pm on a Thursday and it was empty. Pizza came out in under 15 minutes. It was cooked to perfection with little flop to each slice. Tasted like a solid NY style pizza to me. My only complaint is it was a bit greasy and the homemade ranch could use a little less dill.

Google
Lover's Pizza has to be the most flavorful pizza I believe I've ever had. I do not typically go for pizza without toppings, but trust me when I say nothing additional is necessary. My wife and I have had gone the past 3 Fridays and got the cheese once, vodka once, and poblano pizza once. The consistent quality and flavor-packed deliciousness land it as my favorite pizza I may have ever had, and I will happily continue to go out of my way every Friday to pick up a - well worth the wait - Lover's pizza. Additional Notes: - They sell out every day by around 5-5:30pm - Pizza's look slightly burnt but they are not - The dining area is very small - The wait has been ~1hr every time we've gone but they send text messages when your pizza is 10 minutes out, so you can run an errand, go to the adjacent park, etc.

Google
First time eating here and I have to give them 3 stars. They were good don’t get me wrong. Felt over hyped. Still was good pizza. Great atmosphere. Great service.

Google
A friend hyped this place up to me. After my visit, I can say with absolute certainty that this is the best pizza I have had in San Antonio or surrounding areas. I highly recommend it. We got 3 pizzas. My favorite was actually the vodka sauce pizza but that’s probably because I’m obsessed with vodka sauce. All three pizzas were delicious though. We showed up 30 mins before they opened on a Saturday. By the time they opened the line was around the building. I hope to return soon.

Google
Very good, waited in line for an hour plus and worth every minute. Sourdough is delicious, the sausage was great, I wish there was a bit more on there for the price. I'm assuming the price is mostly for the time it takes to make a good sourdough, which was very good. Extra toppings seem a bit overpriced for the amount.

Google
Best Brooklyn-style pizza in San Antonio, probably Texas. Loved it. I got a cheese pizza and my partner (we’re gay) got a vodka pie. Phenomenal. They sell out within the first hour as of 4/18/25 so show up before opening to for sure have a pizza. This place doesn’t deserve bad reviews. We enjoyed the fact that they have games like Uno, Dominos, Connect 4 and more to play while you wait. Give this place a try! Or don’t, your loss, periodt!

Yelp
If you're up for an adventure and some seriously good pizza, this spot is worth the wait -- but ,plan ahead! We arrived 30 minutes before opening and were already halfway through a long line. Luckily, the staff made the wait more bearable with a cooler of free beer and water, plus a tray of their delicious focaccia bread to sample. Pro tip: bring lounge chairs, an umbrella, and don't come starving -- you might not eat for two hours. Once we got our food, it was easy to see why people line up. We ordered a regular cheese pizza and garlic bread, while our friends got the cheese with vodka sauce -- hands down the winner. That vodka sauce was rich, balanced, and unforgettable. The crust was perfectly crispy and the cheese blend was spot on. The garlic bread (really just focaccia with a side of garlic spread) was a little underwhelming, but still tasty. We were lucky enough to snag a table and passed the time playing games while we waited another hour for our pizza. They sold out just one hour after opening, so come early and come prepared. Despite the wait, we'll absolutely be back -- that vodka sauce alone is worth the trip.

Yelp
I've tried to visit this place twice and both times it was a best. The first time, they had a paper plate on the door with the handwritten note saying they were going to be closed that day. The second time was a week later and I was arriving a few minutes past their posted hours to a line that was quickly growing. There was nowhere to park, however, so I decided to drive back by later on to see if parking was any better. An hour later, the line has grown and people are still outside. 30 minutes after I passed by again (now 1.5 hours after the posted opening time) and people are STILL outside. Mind you it was like 99 degrees this day. To just have people sitting outside like that and they actually stay is crazy. But it wasn't worth it to me so I ended up going to Fathead's pizza. Outside of sticking to your posted operating hours, it's equally important to realize when the space you're in is no longer working for you and that's the other problem here. The parking lot fills very quickly and then there's nowhere to really park nearby without paying or risking getting towed or ticketed.

Yelp
I didn't intend to eat here, but someone I know ordered and waited the two hours for his pizza, so I took advantage of it and tried it out. The base pizza was cheese with extra toppings of pepperoni, onions and garlic. The pizza is thin crust and crispy right out of the oven. There was good ratio of sauce, cheese and toppings. The flavor was definitely there. They sell house made ranch dressing that was really good. The dessert that day was a banana split tres leches and it was to die for. I would go back just for the cake. Would I wait this long for this pizza? The answer is no. It's good pizza, but I don't have the patience to stand in line and then wait an hour or two to get my food. You really do have to stand in line before they open and be one of the first ones to order. They sell out quickly too. Parking is on site. It's nice to have that available. They have inside and outside seating.

Yelp
The only downside to this place is waiting. We arrived at 3:15 today, stood in line for 20 minutes and was told the pizzas would take 50 minutes. Totally worth it though. There are about 8 tables inside, and 2 outside. People are pretty good about getting up, some take longer than others after they are finished. The poblano pizza is one of the most flavorful, unique pizzas I have ever had. You can see them hand tossing everything in the back, that's why it takes longer than the chain pizza places. The amount of car and love they put into these pies are evident though. The homemade ranch is really good too. Make sure that you get everything when you go up to order, if you aren't quick, it might be gone when you go back.

Yelp
Went in April of 2025 to the location by the Pearl and the line was around block, I got in line at noon and was first person in line. I tried the poblano, marinara, bread and got a free drink for being first in line. They also have free beer while you wait which was the best. They serve bread while you wait in the long line, I recommend bringing a foldable seat and or an umbrella and use sunscreen. Worth the wait. Very low amount of seats, if you're not able to get a seat be prepared to wait outside longer or just get it to go.
google avatar

Kimo E.

Yelp
Pizza is very very good. Crust is thin and crispy, sauce has good flavor with the right amount of citrus and saltiness. Other than the wait time, highly recommended. Order, leave to run around and come back for your pizza! There was about 6 people in line, and my order took 1:40 minutes.

Yelp
Pizza is so good! I can't get enough! It's good that they dont use food delivery apps yet bc I would be getting it wayyyyy too often!! I'm kind of a pizza purest, don't like too many toppings, and it's always red. I tried the poblano bc I couldn't resist and omg it was sooo good! Call me converted! I've been called a pizza snob, maybe bc I'm from "the pizza capital of the world" but this pizza hits the mark, I'm obsessed!

Yelp
This placed open back up - new location so check their IG out! We ordered a vodka pie and added pepperoni. It was gas. Also ordered the strawberry tres leches. You guessed it - gas. The sourdough crust was one of the best parts about the pizza as you really can taste the different between a traditional crust and this one. Definitely one of the better options in SA and honestly a standout. Love that you can bring your own drink and games -- table next to us was playing uno and it was a vibe in here!

Yelp
Only reason they get 5 is because the pizza was great, they are a small new business, and I'm a local. This many mistakes would normally be a 1 star place. Forgot my basil, system they made for counting inventory is incorrect, front staff makes promises and forgets, forgot my basil, skimpy on sausage and the cheese, excellent garlic flavors, excellent sauce, unburnt I imagine the crust is damn good, my pizza was overcooked and burnt black underneath and the crust, atleast they text u 10 min before its ready, waited 35 min on a Thursday, cannot make phone call orders, apparently run out of food often, forgot my basil, seriously limited ingredients list, their dessert was not tiramisu but they called it tiramisu, open at 3pm close when they run out. I'll probably never return, I need to call in orders, to wait 30-45 min because I have to drive and place order in person makes the cost of entry too high. And the pizza is definitely not good enough to account for my time. 4 stars for wasting my time.

Yelp
The pizza is great - worth the wait in line! Sauce is awesome the crust gives you that smokey flavor - i will come here again

Yelp
I went when it was on Roosevelt. They did not have the prices posted back then and a pepperoni was coming out to $30+. I said crazy and walked away. Barbaros is down the Street and 50% off between certain hours. Pizza Spot on Saint Mary's Street is also cheaper. I guess this is why they moved. Also back then they had only outside seating and no parking.so you are lucky now.

Yelp
It was 7/11 and our anniversary. I was anxious to make it special and memorable. I pulled in earlier that day to recruit some help from the employees with minor details to solidify the moments to come. The manager on duty kindly urged me to be as early as possible due to the high demand of their pies. They really came through for me when they didn't have to. We arrived at 7 P.M. to a devastating sign that (d)read, "sold out". I held my wife's hand and ushered her in anyway. Standing at the register was the manager I spoke with earlier, he gave a "low-key" nod and I proceeded to order anyway. As if the date wasn't going perfect enough, the universe winked. I looked at my receipt as I walked to our table (the place was beautifully vacant for us) and the time stamp of the sale read, 7:11! We sat and another wave from God in the form of a vintage decor tomato sauce can, the brand? 711. THEN the pie comes out, and with it a candle and card that I previously provided. It was perfect. The pie was bold with flavor and crisp as a crust should be. The staff was beyond friendly, they were loving. Their name is quite fitting. Thank you again.

Frank S.

Yelp
It's good pizza, but salty. Crust is amazing but to have to put up with them selling out and the small restaurant I'd rather go somewhere else. It's not worth the hype imo.

Yelp
The quality of the pizza is superb. The thin ny style crust fills what's been missing in this city for quite some time. Highly recommend the poblano and pepperoni, but all are very good. Always lovely people and space. Truly kind people behind the business.

Yelp
A pleasant surprise in San Antonio. We arrived and got in line 30 mins. after they opened the door and they sold out 15 minutes later. They know how much dough they have and keep/take count as patrons get in line to determine when they sell out. So, that's your heads up. While standing in line it appears there is one person making the pizzas and one person cooking the pizzas. The two stacked ovens look really shiny and new.....maybe it's the reason why....? I saw dough trays under the prep table adjacent to where the pies where being made. I counted 20 - 30 dough trays that were visible from standing online. I would think the trays likely held dough, since we arrived 30 minutes after opening. 8 doughs per tray, you do the math. Also, consider the desserts that they must prepare. This crew is working hard. It appeared that someone's parents was helping out. One person boxing/plating pizzas and the other person distributing/serving the pizzas. A friend/hired worker taking the orders at the cash register. Everyone is kind and very hospitable. We were told it would take a hour for the pizzas to be done. We drove around...went to HEB, drove around SAC campus, and went and got nieves (Mexican ice) for 2 hours waiting to get our pizzas. The pizzas weren't done when we came back to the shop. 20 minutes later the first pizza arrived and it was a good cheese pizza. I think the best one they got. Ingredients...a good simple sauce, wonderful cheese, and alright meats, and good dough is what we are paying for. We got extra cheese on everything. The pepperoni was very greasy and didn't have a good mouth feel and the sausage looked and tasted like the processed "rabbit turd" kind you get from the chain pizzas places. The other 4 pizzas came soon after. I'm a big Neapolitan style pizza lover, especially if made in a wood fire oven and appreciate the char that is likely gonna happen to pizzas cooked in such hot ovens. Some people see char on pizzas, steaks, and other foods and they are done. My sister wasn't happy with the 4 other pizzas being charred or as she said "burnt". Some people taste that "burntness" and are unhappy. The only way to make the situation better, is to replace the pizza. At this place, replacing the pizza is possibly an issue they need to start looking at doing. However, they sell out within 45 minutes of opening the door. The person tending the oven has to do a better job on the oven. Pizzas averaging $25 each that are burnt isn't acceptable. Would I come back again, possibly. I'll accept arriving and them being sold out and having to wait 2 hours for my pizza. But burnt? Next time, I'd have to tell them about themselves....ain't nobody want no oven baked burnt pizza. Oven man tighten up your group shots.

Yelp
I will need to review at another time because they are CLOSED. I guess update their our operation due to the "high demand "mentioned on their voicemail.

Erik A.

Yelp
The service was incredible, super friendly, welcoming, and you can tell they genuinely care about their customers. Had the poblano pizza and it was easily some of the best I've had in a long time. There was a long wait, as expected since it is a popular place, but it was worth the wait.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Best pizza in SA. Hands down. Takes some patience but it's worth the wait. There will always be a line at opening, but go in order and come back when it's ready. With every cent spent and second waited. If someone says otherwise, they don't know pizza.

Mercedes R.

Yelp
We're obsessed with this pizza! The sourdough crust is perfect and the overall flavor is amazing. One of the best pizzas we've had. Not to mentioned- tried the tres leches and it was also 10/10!!

Alec G.

Yelp
Sold out an hour after opening lol don't waste your time even driving to this dump, drove over 40 min and it's already sold out

Mardi C.

Yelp
Pizza crust was black/burnt. Pizza was extremely salty. Not worth the wait or price. I tried calling to let them know, no answer.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
I was hesitant to post this because I don't want people to hear about this place and make it harder for me to get this pizza. But without a doubt the best pizza in this city. I've been searching for 2 years for good pizza, and I've found a few places that were decent, but this place is LIGHTYEARS ahead of all of the other places I've tried. You can tell the quality of the cheese. The crust is perfect and has an amazing crisp to it.

D S.

Yelp
I walked in 30 min after they opened and they were already sold out. They can't even produce enough dough to supply people after 30 min of opening. Tons of other great pizza places in San Antonio like Leo's hideout.

Thomas T.

Yelp
We got there right when they opened only to find out that they were already sold out after waiting in line for over an hour. Imagine running a pizza business where you only have enough pizza for less than an hour. Go to Leo's Hideout. Dave Portnoy gave both places the same rating, and when Leo's Hideout runs out of pizza, THEY MAKE MORE. CRAZY RIGHT?

Kristen Z.

Yelp
Dave Portnoy gave this joint a 8.5 I gotta agree it's a mean pie! Definitely a must try in San Antonio

Christopher F.

Yelp
place sells out/closes, an hour and ahalf after being open with no line when I arrived. will never return and never recommend.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Went to Lovers to try their famous poblano pizza. Did not disappoint. Wonderful sourdough crust. Great little spot reminiscent of pizza parlors on the east coast. Loved the atmosphere. So happy to have this gem in the Monte Vista neighborhood.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Top notch, quality pizza, full of flavor with just the right balance of ingredients. A whole pie fresh and hot right out of the oven is magical. You can tell the pride the owners put into every pie they make. A must try pizza joint in San Antonio.
google avatar

Spurs N.

Yelp
My son and I went to have pizza because we read the reviews and decided to give it a try and it was delicious, crust was delicious and pizza was flavorful. This is a must if you're in town or just want to try something new .
google avatar

Evin D.

Yelp
Top notch pizza. The sourdough crust is fantastic, and the pizza itself belongs in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. It's BYOB and they only take cash or Venmo. Overall, some of the best pizza in the city and I highly recommend.
google avatar

Jaz G.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! I am not a pizza lover but this makes me want pizza. Great job to the team here. :) crust is the best in town

Vicki H.

Yelp
I consider myself a pizza snob...but this pizza is impressive!!! Perfect crust, the poblano pizza is to die for! And as a bonus there's a cute little stray cat that will hang out with you on the patio while you wait for your pizza! Pizza plus a pizza cat..I AM SOLD!
google avatar

Berenice E.

Yelp
Lovers Pizzeria knows how to make a dang good pizza. The crust is the perfect combination of fluffy and crunchy. The homemade ranch is also very delish. Follow them on IG to get the latest updates since they only make a certain amount of pies per day. Also, a heads up that they only accept cash or Venmo/CashApp. All pizza lovers should really take the time to check them out! The best pizza in San Antonio.

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Hands down best pizza in all of Texas. I have gotten pizza from them about 10 times and they never miss. The ingredients they use are high quality and baked to perfection. Service is very punctual when you place your orders through text. Would highly recommend.
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
Best pizza in San Antonio! Amazing service and great place to eat! Loved the seating outside. We'll be back!

Isaac G.

Yelp
By far the best pizza I've ever had in San Antonio. The crust on the pizza is amazing and their pizza isn't doused in cheese like most. This is an amazing pie that has a homemade taste and their garlic bread is fantastic. Unfortunately they were out of the strawberry Italian soda, but their raspberry one ass still great nonetheless. WE WILL BE BACK!

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Hands down best pizza in Texas. It might even be better than any joint in New York City!!!
