The Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Going to Pike Place Market with a family is both an enriching experience and a gauntlet of horrors. When you need a break, head to this (relatively) chilled-out market mainstay, which has plenty of seating, water views, and family-pleasing options like fish and chips." - Harry Cheadle

14 Great Restaurants Near Pike Place Market

"According to Seattle’s paper of record, “counter-serve” restaurants are the hot new trend, but Lowell’s has been doing the whole, “line up to order at the register, then hunt for a table” thing since the ‘50s and it’s working. During peak hours you probably won’t be able to score a windowside table, but you can still get classics like fish and chips or Lowell’s allegedly famous Dungeness crab omelette. The top and bottom floors are kid-friendly and the middle floor is a bar with a robust bloody mary menu." - Eater Staff, Jade Yamazaki Stewart, Harry Cheadle

13 Restaurants with Some of the Best Views in Seattle

"Pike Place Market is full of restaurants advertising views of Puget Sound, but Lowell’s gets bonus points because you get your pick of views — the first and third floors let you look out at the water, and the second floor is a bar overlooking the market that serves as an ideal people-watching outpost. Whether you’re splitting a fish and chips with your kids on a much-needed break from market-crawling or doing some pre-game drinking before you head over to the stadiums, Lowell’s is a welcome reprieve from the noise." - Meg van Huygen, Harry Cheadle, Gabe Guarente

Google
Good afternoon everyone, Today's review will be on Lowells. This restaurant is located at Pike's place in Seattle. We took Monday off to run some errands and hit Pike's place. There was quite a line in front but we found an employee watching the side door where you can go upstairs and be seated on the second floor so that was a lucky break for us. We were seated quickly the food arrived super fast I mean soups and appetizers arrived very quickly. We didn't really have a full meal we only had some chicken strips crab cakes and we tried the clam chowder and a barley soup which was awesome. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive! Next time we head back we'll definite day for a dinner. But anyone in the area of Pike's place I would certainly 100% recommended going and trying Lowells. If you can get a window seat on the first second or third floor you will be in great shape. I did notice with the chicken strips they use a panko breading instead of Italian type breading so just be aware of every restaurant's a little different. But we did enjoy them. Another thing, thought I'd mention we all got lemonade along with our water and we can tell you the lemonade was fantastic They also have a great bar the atmosphere is excellent but it is a mid to expensive restaurant. So between the four of us we spent more than $150 so just be aware it's a great dining experience but it is a little on the pricey side. James .

Lowell’s was an absolute delight during our visit to Pike Place Market! Despite the overcast skies, the views were still impressive. We waited just a little bit to place our order, but the line moved quickly. Our food arrived in a flash, piping hot and ready to enjoy! The clam chowder was amazing, and the cod was perfectly breaded—definitely a highlight to our visit. The meal was moderately priced and the portions were generous.

This restaurant is in Pike's place market. The salmon dish was the moistest, freshest, most delicious salmon of my life. It was seasoned simply so the salmon could really stand out. I also had the chowder in a sourdough bread bowl (and yes, it's not worth having it unless it's in a bread bowl!) It's true...the Pacific Northwest is the home of the best salmon. The restaurant also has excellent views of the water front. Highly recommend!

Google
Great atmosphere and some sweet views in this seafood restaurant. Located inside like place, it can be hard to get a spot on the 1st floor. The 2nd floor bar usually has more seating available, and I always get great service there. The food is great as well with nice seafood options. The seafood tacos are always fresh, tasting, and delicious. They have great infused vodka options and bloody Mary's.

Google
Meal with a view in pike place to get out a little bit from the crowd and enjoy your food! I ordered salmon plate and it was delish. It was a plus they bring the food to you—-I was on the third floor. Friendly staff, long line but quick service.

We decided to have lunch at Lowell’s Restaurant, a well-known seafood spot with a prime waterfront view. Given its popularity, I wasn’t too surprised to find a long queue when we arrived. The wait ended up being over 30 minutes, but with the bustling energy of the market around us, there was plenty to see while we passed the time. Once seated, we ordered fish and chips and a mixed grilled seafood platter. The fish and chips were crispy and golden, while the grilled seafood dish offered a variety of fresh flavors. While the food itself was decent, the real highlight of dining at Lowell’s was undoubtedly the stunning waterfront view. With a seat overlooking the Elliott Bay, it was a relaxing and scenic way to enjoy a meal.

Google
Great food. Tuna melt was fantastic. Fries was ok. Good ambience. Great service but a bit confusing system. 1st & 3rd floor need to queue up, order then food will be delivered to your table. 2nd floor which is the bar floor have a full service section. Dont have to queue for that

Google
I finally got o visit Pike Place Market. I was on a hunt for fish and chips and found an article recommending this restaurant. They were pretty crowed inside and a long line outside. I shopped around for a while and came back and an employee said the bar was open and we could sit and eat there. The goal though is to sit at a table and take in the beautiful view I ordered the fish and chips and a side of shrimp. I wasn’t impressed they are fried in panko and didn’t have any flavor. The fries were cold. When I asked for hot fries the sever said he would see what he could do and brought me literally less than ten fries. The shrimp was heavily breaded as you will see by the photos The bartender was excellent. Very engaging with all of us who were sitting at the bar and taking walk up drink orders.

Yelp
I really really like the salmon and potato leek chowder here; it was creamy, steamy and full of flavor. I ordered it with a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. I didn't think I was hungry enough to finish it all but each bite was enjoyable. I also tried the customized lemon drop cocktail on the menu. Using ginger vodka was such a good touch since I absolutely love ginger. Service was pretty fast and the restaurant wasn't too loud, considering it's in Pike Place. My experience here was five out of five and I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Good place to eat but always busy. We were lucky to get a table just before lunch started in the bar area. We had the Reuben and tuna melt. Great view - 5 stars Service - 4 stars Food - 3.5. Tuna melt had a tad too much mayo and bread was soggy. Solid 3.5 place in Pike's

Yelp
If you are going to Pike Place Market, Lowell's is an old establishment that has been there for years! We went to breakfast here twice and both times we ordered the same thing both times because it was great! If you have never been, you order it at the counter and they bring it to you! The food arrived hot! The restaurant had great views! One of the reasons we went here is for the "vegan" scramble is veggies and hash browns with toast! There is no egg substitute or tofu for the vegan scramble. The veggies were hot, basically squash, zucchini, bell peppers and onions! We ordered the sourdough which was soft and substantial.

Yelp
Quick service. The crab cakes were so good! We were lucky to get a table with a view of the water.

Yelp
Had dinner here after arriving in Seattle for a cruise. We had a great dinner with a great view. Didn't take long for us to get a booth with a view. Our server was great and really took care of us. I had an old fashioned and the fish and chips. The fish was flaky and flavorful. The tartar sauce was on point. The cole slaw was delicious! Glad we stopped in Lowell's . It is conveniently located in the Pile Place Park District mall area.
google avatar

Vincent L.

Yelp
The food and drinks weren't half as bad. Even though it is a touristy place, the service was great and friendly. My friend and I were able to grab seats on the bar level. The fries and slaw were average but the actual seafood itself was really good. Granted we were there during the middle of the week so I'm not sure how different it would be on the weekend but definitely give it a try.
google avatar

Cris M.

Yelp
Food was good. Fresh salmon, shrimp and crab. A bit pricey for our taste but paid market value. Ordering can be a bit confusing, rushed, and overwhelming but stick it out! The upstairs room was peaceful and better ambiance with exceptional views.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
My partner and I stopped in here for a drink. There's a system to dining in, but since my we were only here for drinks, we were directed to the second floor bar. The bartender made suggestions and our drinks were ready quickly The view from the bar is lovely and the bartender knew a lot about Seattle. Drinks were enjoyable...but remember...you're in a huge tourist spot with a great view. Make sure your wallet is prepared.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
We came to Lowell's in January for an early lunch and got a seated on the second floor, in the bar area, with great views. We ordered the Clam Chowder Breadbowl and a Dungeness Crab Melt. Both were great. I liked the melt the most. We left stuffed and had a great time.
google avatar

Mahika A.

Yelp
You can't really beat heartwarming diner food with an amazing view. I got the beechers grilled cheese and it was so delicious and perfectly crispy (especially with the pickles). My friend got the fish and chips which he also enjoyed. The tartar sauce went really well with the fries, so we asked for extra and they gave us 2 more! That was really kind of them & the overall experience was very friendly.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Great old school ambience with amazing views! A little on the pricey side, but considering it's in Seattle and has a great view, I get it. I had the Joe's Scramble and it was fresh and tasty. The hash browns were solid too.
google avatar

Amber P.

Yelp
Scenic spot - Good Bloody Mary - Pricey Shout out to the staff, they are all awesome and work hard to smoothly handle all the tourists and busy lunch hours. Little bit of a tourist trap, I'd recommend going elsewhere for seafood that has more flavor and isn't over priced. It's in pike place and has views of the water which aren't bad! I'd recommend coming for a Bloody Mary or a coffee to sit by the window but wouldn't dine in here. Ordered three bloody Mary's which the bar on the second floor made. Tasted great! Ordered the cod tacos which were cooked well but not all that flavorful and a tasty chicken sandwich. Food wasn't bad by any means but I think you can find better.
google avatar

Stacy H.

Yelp
In the Pike Market Place. It has 3 levels of dining. Excellent view of the water. Known for bloody Mary's and breakfast. Both of our breakfast choices were excellent. The service was fast and efficient. Really enjoyed the experience.

Fillis F.

Yelp
Service was fast. French toast was only ok and expensive. Garden omelette had too many onions. Oatmeal was good. Workers were nice.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
I gave this restaurant a 3 because the service was very good and the view from the restaurant of the water and mountains was very nice but the shrimp and chips I had did not really taste like anything. Their famous clam chowder was pretty good.
google avatar

Jean O.

Yelp
This was our first stop on our tour eats in Pike Place market. We didn't want to get so full from our first meal so we ordered 2 meals for 5 of us. We ordered the Dungeness crab omelet and the salmon eggs Benedict. Ordered coffee and OJs for the kids. Pricey but delicious! Great experience while on vacation and first time in Seattle. There are plenty of seating in first and third floors. We had a beautiful view of Elliott bay
google avatar

Rima Z.

Yelp
Great views from the bar and we enjoyed our server, Andrew. Espresso martinis were tasty and decently potent. They did take a while to arrive, as did the food (sorry no picture). Had the grilled cheese sandwich which was a tad soggy and the fries were average. Portions were decent though and prices commensurate with the location.

Yelp
Lowell's is a seafood restaurant at Pike Place with a nice view of the water. * Seafood Mixed Grill 4.5/5 - This had grilled Alaskan salmon, tiger prawns, crab cake, grilled vegetables, and rice. The salmon and prawns were delicious. The prawns were lightly charred which enhanced the flavor. The crab cake was okay. The spicy mayo on top didn't really go together with the flavor of the crab cake. The rice and grilled vegetables were a good addition. * Clam Chowder 4/5 - The chowder had really good flavor. The only negative was that there was barely any clams in it. There were mostly potatoes in the dish.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Definitely a place to try the clam chowder in Pike Market. I found the chowder to be very good , homemade . I ordered and was promptly served . Plenty of window seating looking out over Puget sound Beautiful views what a great spot to have some breakfast or lunch check it out .
google avatar

Katy R.

Yelp
Great view from the 3rd floor! Wasnt crowded on a Monday, mid morning. I liked that it was quick service style- order at counter and find a seat. Food was good and fresh, would definitely return.
google avatar

Jaime E.

Yelp
Wow the breakfast here is amazing. So good I forgot to take a picture. From what I have heard all their menu items are great. And if you go upstairs you get a great view. Make sure you stop by and give them a try. Service was super good and fast. Even though it was fast the food was fresh and delicious.

Erik W.

Yelp
Food is great, ambiance is also very good. Nice views of the water front...service was rude rude rude. From the initial order taking, to the waiter who brought our food, I got the feeling they did not want us there
google avatar

Melanie D.

Yelp
I originally was going to order at the counter, but saw they had table service and decided to go for it. I'm so glad I did! I got a seat right in the corner and as a solo diner, it was perfect. I was next to a window overlooking the other buildings against the waterfront. The wooden interior had a warm to it, contrasting against the chilly rain outside (still a beautiful backdrop). Andrew was a fantastic server. I ordered a lemonade with basil and berries; it was amazing! Freshly muddled and mixed from the bar, it was delicious and refreshing. Lunch was the veggie sandwich and fries. Absolute perfection. I loved the thick pieces of red pepper and the slices of perfectly ripe avocado. I expected to pay a little more for the location, but the quality of everything made me feel good about my choice dining here. Absolutely will come back again!

Yelp
Amazing place! Great service .. great view and wonderful food. 80's music in the background.

Yelp
Come on Lowell, please do better! Stop taking advantage(ripping off) of tourists customers! We all know locals never comes here and without tourist you would go bankrupt and close down but yet you keep taking advantage of the tourists. 1. Fish and chips - COD is FROZEN, Seattle has one of the freshest fish available but why use frozen and sell so expensive, at least season the fish before deep frying. Flavorless!! 2. Clam Chowder - OMG, it's water downed and almost no clams, tasteless but it cost $15.95 for a bowl, small bowl. You advertise as best clam chowder, campbell soup is better. Please, let's be more honest and have some dignity for the food you are serving, this is piece of C..P 3. Crab Cakes - $33 for two small oily zero dungeness crab. It was the worse crab cake I ever had, again we are in Seattle, crabs everywhere!! Also the tomato salsa was going really bad, I couldn't believe they served it. I gave two stars hoping they will improve and again stop taking advantage of the tourists customers.

Les M.

Yelp
Breakfast, yet non peak, had the salmon Benedict, wife had french toast. Benedict eggs were cooked hard poached without any request, hollandaise sauce only on one egg, bread was thin tough like a bread heel and couldn't be managed with the provided steak knife. If this was prepared to any known standard it would have been fine. French toast probably better with a syrup you could taste. I felt shorted with the corners cut and QA.
google avatar

Leah Y.

Yelp
This place has some really good sea food. I tired a bite of the salmon and it was delicious. I recommend ordering that if you come here, as the other menu items are still great but not out of the ordinary. We got the salmon eggs Benedict's, pancakes, oatmeal, and French toast/eggs/bacon combo. Very yummy. Service was great and we were seated in about fifteen minutes. Food came out quick and we all finished our plates. Great sit-down breakfast option if you are visiting Pikes Market.
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Lowell's is a multi floor icon within the Pike Market. The first floor offers counter diner style ordering and seating. You can go to the 3rd floor and eat, after you order, if you prefer. If you want to go to the cozy bar or enjoy a wooden booth or small table, head to the second floor. The tuna melt and salmon plate are stand outs. They both come with no frills but they are delicious. The king prawns cocktail is nice if you're looking to treat yourself. You can wash it back with an $8 Deschutes. Expect to pay $75+, your belly will appreciate it. The service is mixed. Some staff will sling plates at you with little regard for humanity let alone what the kitchen stay slaved over you. Others will serenade you with a song or practically hug you as you leave. Maybe this is thru According to Seattle's paper of record, "counter-serve" restaurants are the hot new trend, but Lowell's has been doing the whole, "line up to order at the register, then hunt for a table" thing since the '50s and it's working. During peak hours you probably won't be able to score a windowside table, but you can still get classics like fish and chips or Lowell's allegedly famous Dungeness crab omelette. The top and bottom floors are kid-friendly and the middle floor is a bar with a robust bloody mary menu.

Yelp
We got seated right away for a party of 6 which felt lucky at 1:30pm on a Saturday. This place is much bigger than it seems. We had a great server, made us laugh a lot and gave us great recs on what to order. I first ordered the tuna salad sandwich but then was encouraged by the server to get the salmon sandwich. Server let me know that the tuna is from a can and the salmon is fresh so go with the salmon. It was great. Best French fries too. Had a great meal!

Yelp
Lowell's is where I fell in love 3 years ago... With the dungeness crab benedict. We're still together; it's pretty serious. I've come back from San Diego, CA for it 3 times since, and don't regret it. This time around it's lunch, so since I missed breakfast I ordered the Northwest dungeness crab melt and well, damn okay, I think I just found my side piece. Dungeness crab, melty mozzarella, bacon tomato jam on grilled rosemary bread?! Stop it. Let's start over. Lowell's is a historic restaurant that sits on prime real estate in the center of the main walkway of the market, they are well known and absolutely deserving of all the traffic and attention they draw whether it's from their name prominently displayed over the market, or the lines to get in. 3 dining floors with windows overlooking Elliott Bay and the Seattle Great Wheel meet you after the cashier. We had a beautiful day today (it poured hard yesterday) so we were lucky to have clear sunshine, and perfect pictures. Lowell's Hot Dungeness Crab Melt comes with fries, salty pickle slices and a lemon wedge. The bacon tomato jam just slightly overpowered the crab, but still absolutely delicious. Melted mozzarella over the crab between grilled rustic rye bread pulls it all together for a lunch you won't be forgetting. The staff are all pleasant and helpful, ask away if you're unsure of anything. Most of all, enjoy this food!

Yelp
This was our first stop in Seattle. We were recommended this place by our Hotel. This place did not disappoint. We sat next to the window and got a GREAT view. I am vegetarian so was nervous they wouldn't have great options. Even though it was limited it was so yummy. My boyfriend got the clam chowder and fish and chips. He mentioned how fresh it tasted! I got the split pea soup of the day and oh my goodness it was so yummy. My only mistake was not ordering a bigger bowl! I also got the vegetarian sandwich and it was delicious. Service was amazing and food was great. We are def coming back!
google avatar

Talisa C.

Yelp
We visited on a hectic Sunday as soon as the lunch hour hit. The line can go out the door piling into the rest of Pike Place Market, so be aware of that. I tried the Dungeness Crab Melt with a water bottle, and for the price, I have nothing good to say about it. It was flavorless, bland, I didn't taste the bacon tomato jam it contained. They did give a generous amount of fries so I guess I can't complain entirely. But for a $39 meal, it was not worth it whatsoever.
google avatar

Johnny K.

Yelp
Tourist Trap! Stay way! Food way overpriced for the minute portions provided. Service sucks and drinks are weak. Lousy stop!
google avatar

Lynne C.

Yelp
A reliable spot of authentic traditional PNW dining in the Market. Have never been disappointed in many years of visits. Old school vibe, great view!
google avatar

Ervin A.

Yelp
Great service with a nice view of the waterfront. It's very busy, so I recommend you anticipate a wait. Quality food that was very fresh, I highly recommend you visit when going to Pike Place market.
google avatar

Gilbert R.

Yelp
Three-floored restaurant in Pikes Place Market. You can choose between full service where you get attended to, or just order and have a seat and they'll take the items over to you. Came for breakfast. Ordered the following: - Dungeness crab omelette - 7/10: Served with hash browns and bread. The omelette was basically chunky crab pieces wrapped in an egg blanket. I wish they could've done a little more with it. Crab was fresh, but for what you get, it's a little overpriced. - Smoked salmon omelette - 6.5/10: same dish, but with smoked salmon. Everything came out relatively fast. Self serve coffee as well. Would probably come back to explore some of the other menu items.

Yelp
What a difference six months does.. what happens to the great service and great food they once has.. serving spoiled food with an enticement that they don't care .. last time I'll spend $134 on garbage they just looked at me and said with a smile. We are close now..
google avatar

JR L.

Yelp
Ok we tried Lowell's because it was on top 10 list of places to eat. We were really disappointed. The clam chowder was too salty to eat and our fish n chips and prawns n chips had no seasoning whatsoever! The service was great and the view was fantastic but that's about it.
google avatar

Jess S.

Yelp
We got the Combo with vanilla cinnamon French and Joe's Scramble. The hash browns were cooked PERFECTLY... as was the omelet... We had gotten the French toast the day before because it was so good. The waiter also remembered us from the day before. Definitely will be coming back if I'm ever in Seattle again.
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
I was in a walking boot when I visited this restaurant. It has 3 levels and I had to limp my way up the stairs to the second floor where we were sat. Bathroom was on the third floor. Didn't bother me really, but I say this to point out that it may not be super handicap accessible. We weren't given the option to dine on the first floor. Other than that, food was great. Yummy clam chowder. The smoked salmon infused Bloody Mary was so unique and tasty. Give it a chance. It's not fishy and the smoked salmon flavor is subtle.
google avatar

Beth B.

Yelp
Came in for breakfast and the views. Amazing. Service was friendly and helpful. Had eggs sausage and hash browns. They were super crisp yumm.
google avatar

Pat M.

Yelp
Our breakfast dishes and bloody Marys were great (spicy means spicy!) The service was awesome upstairs as were the views overlooking the waterfront. If you are in town to catch a cruise to Alaska, as we were, Lowell's opens at 8 am. After breakfast, we strolled through the Market. As I usually do, I purchased a lovely $15 bouquet for our cabin (I pack a special cup just for a bouquet).
google avatar

Arthur T.

Yelp
Came by for Lunch at noon on a Saturday. We came a bit earlier before they started serving lunch so we had to wait a bit. We ordered: -bowl of chowder $10.95 ok -fish and chips $19.75, wasn't a fan of the batter, and fish was below average Food took quite awhile to come out, which was a bit odd. And was lukewarm at best. They have seating on the first and 3rd floor. The second floor is a bar...not completely sure if you can sit there. Views are good which saves a star.
google avatar

Joseph R.

Yelp
My cousins recommended this place to me, although it wasn't necessary as they took me with them instead, and I was honestly excited for the hype; The hype was not diminished. I decided to try the smoked salmon Benedict, also let me let you know now that I've never had any kind of Benedict until now so there was a little mystery and some worry to how I'd like it already in the air. After my first bite I took another and then another and then another until it was all gone. Surely and 10/10 is a bit much to say but I truly think that was one of the best breakfasts I've had and I don't really care for breakfast in general. The place looks amazing with the amazing view as well just truly adds to the experience, with the person taking our order very quick we were able to enjoy our breakfast that much quicker. Would I come again? Absolutely, the music is also a nice touch.

Yelp
The wait was a bit long but worth it!! Clam chowder 4/5 Salmon chowder (soup of the day) 5/5

Yelp
Pretty expensive for a very basic diner. Tables and floor dirty. "Famous" Fish and Chips unremarkable -- except for the price. We left feeling ripped off, but everything is expensive in Seattle.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent view! Came for lunch and got fish and chips, kids got cheeseburgers, and everyone was happy! View was stunning! We will be back!
