"Low Key is, in fact, a low key experience. There's no dress code or reservation needed at the outdoor bar and restaurant in Little River, which is populated with picnic benches, shaded tables, and one heck of a tree. There is, however, great seafood dishes alongside frozen drinks and bottles of wine served in little coolers that'll make you feel like you're at the beach. This is the kind of place where you can camp out for hours with some friends, listen to live music or a DJ, eat fish dip, and just generally emulate the spirit of Jimmy Buffett." - ryan pfeffer

"Editor's note: Low Key is no longer serving food. Instead, they will host pop-ups like Tam Tam on Friday and Saturday. There are certain things Miami’s restaurant scene always seems to be lacking, no matter when you survey our hospitality landscape. There are almost never enough places to watch live music. Casual walk-in options that can still be incredibly fun are constantly endangered. And good luck finding a restaurant that doesn’t even particularly care whether you order anything, and welcomes you to just hang out underneath a beautiful tree. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings That’s what makes Low Key so significant. The Little River seafood spot is cool if viewed in a vacuum. But in the context of Miami’s restaurant scene, it’s the kind of gap-filler the city so badly needs. Low Key doesn’t really look like a restaurant. There’s no host corralling guests at the entrance and the kitchen is hidden from sight. The outdoor space consists of tables and picnic benches scattered beneath a big banyan tree that’s all lit up with string lights. To place an order, you visit the white pop-up canopy and then grab a seat wherever you like. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings Unless you’ve just come to have a couple drinks and head-bob to one of the live bands or DJs that play under the tree, you are most likely going to be eating seafood. Low Key serves the kind of fried fish and raw bar dishes that demand to be consumed alongside a frozen cocktail (which you can also order here). Don’t expect big, elaborate presentations. Most menu items, like the wonderful fish sandwich or Mexican shrimp cocktail, can be eaten with your hands and are served in a little cardboard container. But don’t mistake the unpretentious attitude for a lack of effort. Low Key cares about the details, from the little plastic swordfish sticking out of your cocktail to the finger lime pulp sprinkled over one of the best slices of key lime pie in Miami. It might not feel like the kind of restaurant we’re used to—but that’s a good thing. There should be more Low Keys in this city, but we’re thrilled there’s at least one. Food Rundown photo credit: Cleveland Jennings Market Fish Sandwich This might be our favorite thing on the menu. You can get it blackened or fried—both excellent options. It comes with tangy pikliz, herbs, and a special sauce on a soft potato bun. You will probably consider ordering two in a row, a decision we support. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings Clam Frites The clams in this dish sit atop a little mountain of fries, which start out crispy but slowly soak up the calabrian chili butter sauce like delicious sponges. This is a great thing to get on the table and split with one or two people. It proves that soggy fries can be wonderful too. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings Fish & Chips You may have noticed already, but it’s really hard to find good fish and chips in Miami. Low Key’s version remedies that issue. The fish is fried in a way that produces that puffy-yet-crisp outer shell that’s essential in a proper fish and chips, and the crinkle-cut fries are crispier than we thought it was possible for crinkle-cut fries to be. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings Key Lime Pie Low Key’s Key Lime Pie is pretty classic and not too tart. But the most genius aspect is the addition of finger lime pulp sprinkled over the top. It adds little pops of lime flavor and excellent texture to each bite." - Ryan Pfeffer

"Fried seafood and frozen cocktails in an outdoor space that hosts live music is one of Florida’s greatest food traditions. And Low Key (which comes from the Over Under team) is keeping that tradition alive in Miami. This place operates from a barebones outdoor patio in Little River, sparsely populated with picnic benches and some shaded tables. They serve very good raw bar dishes and bigger entrees like fish and chips, a grouper sandwich, and clam frites—all served with impressively crispy crinkle cut fries. It all goes just wonderfully with the frozen piña colada or frozen margarita you can order here. " - ryan pfeffer

HONEST REVIEW!!!! The food used to be good. I usually finish work around midnight and they open around that time the food used to be good but I don’t know what’s going now. I give them three chances I thought it was a mistake but each time is the same thing I ordered griot and they give me three pieces of bones and three piece of plantains. Like i said Before I really loved ordering here Bc the food used to be good but now it doesn’t!!

I had the full Haitian experience visiting this place. I had the fried chicken with rice/ beans and a salad w/ plantains. Not only was it delicious but so much food that I had leftovers for lunch the next day for $8.00. Can I got to meet the owner and his father I will definitely be returning.

Love! Love! Love! Exceptional staff and perfect in the wall hangout for eating unreal, affordable food and smoking hookah. Drinks are dangerously good. If you’re looking for a chill time to sit, eat, drink, and dance, this would be the place. First time coming and definitely not the last.

Google
Should be called slow key lounge around because that's what the employees are doing. The place smells like hookers and the bartender acts like if she wants a tip to go get a to-go order which you have to wait for even when the places dead slow. Hideous decor.

I order from here all the time because I absolutely love their grilled chicken. One day they burned the chicken and still decided to deliver it to me. Wrong move and never ordering again.

Google
This is my first time picking up from them. I’ve ordered Uber eats once before but never knew the details of where I was ordering from.. The restaurant is filthy, the entire outside of the restaurant smelt like dead cats. I was hoping the inside wasn’t going to smell as bad. THE INSIDE SMELT LIKE DEAD CATS. I picked up my food and was scared to eat it. When I took it home I carefully observed the food and smelt the meat.. it smelt exactly like the restaurant. I couldn’t bare to have the food even near me it was so bad. The food looked disgusting. I tried the rice and the bean sauce since it was in a separate container and smelt okay.. immediately my stomach started burning. I threw the entire thing away. Disgusting.

Yelp
Upon entering the restauarant I was immediately greeted with a welcoming smile. I sat down at the bar ordered a few tacos and drinks had a brief conversation with the owner. Eventually when I left I ordered a plate of rice and griot home to the wife she loved it. I can not wait to come back and enjoy the food again.

Yelp
please look at my google review, I do not recommend this place, I order several time and or miss. I had personal issue which owner got involved with not only as a black women he spoke ill about me and my children, laugh at my trauma, I spoke on another experience with my friend and he didn't like what I said. Everything what was said about me I accept. Im glad to know the type of people who run this restaurant so more people can stay away they have a lot 1 review but I'm one who get curse out only cause know who I am I wonder if would do that other 1 stars. I accept everything what happened to me and I'm glad to know owner agree with DV, agree with someone take advantage of others. This is the owner business and personal issue hold no merit with him but I love that he reflect all negatives stereotypes about Haitian people. God bless your restaurant

Yelp
I don't know if the previous reviews are fake but they couldn't be more WRONG! Lowkey Hookah Lounge is amazing value and flavor. I haven't been to the location yet but I have ordered on several times -- the BOGO deal never misses! I love the seafood spaghetti, the griot taco, the bbq chicken and plantain are my go to. The plantain is fresh and crispy and comes more than just 2! Maybe this was previously another restaurant or another owner but as of 2023 , lowkey hookah lounge is amazing! I'm ordering now and will update with photos Support local business!

Yelp
Ordered food through Uber eats meat smelled spoiled made my house reek! Never thought I would receive spoiled food from an establishment that should have food safety guidelines.

Yelp
I had been seeing this restaurant on Yelp for a while so I stopped in and ordered fried conch and fries and griot with green plantains. On the drive home it had my car lit up with flavor, I couldn't wait to get home. So.... The conch was tough and the breading was soggy and was sliding off the conch, I can say the sauce they had on top of the conch was very tasty (that's the 1 star). The fries were just fries nothing special. Ok on to the griot it was flavorless how do u not season the meat it was terrible and the green plaintains were fried good. I didn't like the picklies it was just hot no flavor. I can say that I tried this place and will never visit again.

Yelp
First of all, i wish i can give it 0 stars. 1. The Customer service here is extremely poor. They have an attitude for no reason and no one gives a welcoming vibe. 2. They take FOREVER. Like seriously how long does it take to make grilled chicken??? 3. The food is horrible, like i couldn't even imagine what i was eating was really my food. I ordered grilled chicken and i swear i got small burnt chicken pieces. Man please just shut down, many people have complained.

Yelp
I ordered from Lowkey restaurant thinking I was in for a good treat today and I ordered the griot and fried plantains first off my plantains were under cooked so under cooked they stuck together i had to peel them off of one another my griot was soft I had to basically fry and food over again i mean if I want to cook I would have. The only thing good about the order was my Uber eats driver. I will never order from this restaurant ever again.

Yelp
This food was worth the wait! It so good and savory. I ordered the shrimp tacos and the 8 wings with plantain. The tacos melted in my mouth with the sauce marinading the cabbage! So yummy, will try again!

Yelp
If i could give no stars i would, i ordered one night through uber eats, and ordered the crab boil, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SICK IF I DID NOT REALIZE THE CRAB WAS IN THE DECOMPOSITION STAGE. The crab reeked of ammonia, and it made my entire home STINK! I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone, even my worst enemy! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Tanisha A.

Yelp
I can't give my opinion to the customer service since I ordered on Ubereats but I have to disagree with the other reviews. I ordered my food food at around 8 and got my food a little over an hour later. I ordered the fried chicken and plantations with the mystery drink. I can say this is the best Haitian food I've had from a restaurant in a long time. It tastes just like home cooking. Will be ordering again!

McNelly H.

Yelp
Oh my! I wish I could explain how poorly made my food was but I'll try my best. I place an order on Uber eats exactly at 3 (when they open) didn't get my food until 4:50! Wow it gets better.. the first two drivers cancelled cause they took long and the third driver was nice enough to wait. I ordered the small seafood boil, the Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta, and the two lowkey mystery drinks ( mind you it was koolaid with vanilla extract). The crawfish in the boil fell apart, the crab tasted bad (as in it was dead for a long time in the fridge bad) and the corn and potatoes was inedible due to the spice!!!! It was absolutely spicy!!! I couldn't eat it. The pasta was spicy as well and the drink was mediocre. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. Listen to me I'm no where near a picky eater but I have to comment this to help future people.

Yelp
I've ordered from this restaurant at least 5 times now. Each time I order from them, there's an issue. Whether it's the quality of food or the extremely long delivery time. I finally had to write a review when I made an order today and the order never came. Ordered at 6:32, got a notification that the estimated delivery time was from 7:20-7:40, then it's 8:40 and my order still says on the way. I contact the restaurant, the woman who picks up is defensive and has a rotten attitude. She calls back saying the delivery person brought the order, I inform her I never received anything. I have cameras in front of the house and kept going outside every 10 minutes. No one ever came. This is a black small business I was trying to support. In order to be successful, you need good business integrity and good customer service. Unfortunately they lack both. There's better restaurants out here who deliver on their promises, have better customer service, and taste way better. If you're think about trying this restaurant, please don't. Save yourself the trouble.
