Where to Find Houston’s Best Dim Sum | Eater Houston

"Owner Steve Weng and chef Jeff Mei, formerly of One Dim Sum, have moved their dim sum operations to the Post Food Hall in Downtown Houston. Loy Loy Dim Sum offers Chinese Cantonese cuisine, a selection of classic American Chinese dishes like sesame chicken and walnut shrimp but most notably the handcrafted dim sim. The a la carte dim sum menu includes staples such as barbecue pork buns and shrimp sui mai, but you’ll also want to try the black truffle spring roll, chicken curry puffs, and the delicate crystal shrimp and chive dumplings." - Minh Truong

The food was really good. I even had leftovers for dinner. The young lady in the counter was so kind and patient. It was the weekend, so it was packed. I got my food in about 10-15 minutes. Yummy rice!

Loy Loy is located within The Post Market, off Franklin Street. Anytime I see a Dim Sum place, I have to try it. Also my buddy has never had it. So started him off on some simple dishes to peel his interest. BBQ Pork Buns and Shrimp Balls were an easy choice for a first timer. The shrimp balls were loaded with flavor, also added a photo show how well stuffed they are. You won’t be disappointed giving this place a try. The parking is quite vast. However, if you visit within the prime time hours or weekends. You’ll have a hard time parking and moving about. I’ve been in the past where it’s shoulder to shoulder in the market. However today at 4pm it was practically empty! So plan accordingly. We will be back for more!

Generic food court quality food. Not quite authentic Chinese, but nice attempt. I had the Singapore noodles, which needed a little more curry powder flavor. Potstickers were rubbery.

I’ve had Bao all over the world, but these Bao buns were incredibly disappointing. The BBQ Bao steam buns were mostly bun with very little filling—about 95% bun and only 5% filling. The sticky rice was stale and slimy, unlike anything I’ve had before. The shrimp balls were the only redeeming part of my meal—they were actually good. However, the portion of sauce provided was ridiculous. I spent over $50 on my order and received just four BOTTLECAPS of sauce, which was honestly laughable. As for customer service, I didn’t stay long enough to fully assess it, but I did notice the staff member at the front ignored a paying customer with which they were in midst of an order with, to speak to me about my order. Take that for what it’s worth. Long story short, there’s much better options at Post HTX for the price point such as Chop’n Blok across the hall.

Great food! First time here and was just wandering until I saw the pork buns listed. Fantastic! Really good, reminds me of going out to eat with my cousins. I would definitely come back here to try everything else.

Worst food ever at post Houston! I ordered shrimp and rice and they have the 4 big shrimp and 1 small shrimp. I asked the cashier why was the portion so small and he said the manager only wanted them to give our 6 shrimp which I didn’t even receive but regardless why are yall trying to skimp customers? They offered to give me chicken instead and I took it but I wish I would’ve just gotten a refund because it was HORRIBLE. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

I had high hopes for this place, especially since we were craving dim sum on Chinese New Year. Unfortunately, it was a complete disaster. The dumplings were served cold, and raw and we accidentally bit into a raw pork dumpling. It was absolutely disgusting, and we had to spit it out immediately. This place clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing, especially when it comes to basic food safety. Food court generally doesn’t really look very hygiene either. Totally disappointing, and I won’t be coming back

Google
Way over priced for their portion sizes. Got the vegetarian option, and the mushrooms could not be chewed through. Food temperature was cold as well. The no line should have been the first clue on a busy Friday night.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and this place is called post market, where they have all these food vendors inside.. that's where you can find Loyalty, if you enter through the main entrance labeled post market. It's to the left of the doors. There are so many options inside the building but the menu was accompanied with photos so it made it easy to decide what I want and what to order. Food was good.. I ordered the Loy Loy combination rice noodles.. the photo advertised seemed very colorful, which I didn't think my plate was, but despite the bland look it was VERY tasty.. I ate the whole thing.. I would definitely recommend them and the service was quick.. was told a 10min wait but it was maybe 5min. The counter was clean and employee was patient. Thank you!

Yelp
This is my second time trying out Loy Loy dim sum! In comparison to other options at POST, they honestly seem pretty affordable. I got the Singapore rice noodle with chicken and seafood dumplings. I came in a day that post was having some sort of st Patrick's event so it was pretty crowded and nearly every vendor was busy, but somehow they had my food ready in about 5 mins. The noodles were nice and tasty with the accompanying veggies and shrimp tasting fresh. The dumpling were also nice. I'd love to give something else on the menu a try. Although this place is good I'm almost left wanting something a bit more. Will definitely give them another visit whenever I'm at POST.

Yelp
Post Houston is my favorite food hall in town. On my most recent visit, I realized that there were quite a few new vendors. One of those was Loy Loy Dim Sum. If the name doesn't give it away, Loy Loy specializes in dim sum e.g. Chinese tapas. You place your order at the counter and they'll text you when your food is ready. Ambiance (N/A): Since Loy Loy is part of Post, they don't really have ambiance of their own. It's the ambiance of the food hall that is the real experience so I don't think we should touch on it here. But know Post is awesome in this area. Service (N/A): Not much of the experience either as you just order at the counter and they text you when your order is ready. Drinks (N/A): Sorry to keep the trend going here but I didn't order any drinks. Food (3.5/5): Finally! We went with the shrimp shumai which is a classic dim sum dish. Think of them as steamed shrimp dumplings. You get six of them so it's not a large portion for the price. When it comes to dumplings, I'm looking for the quality of the filling and also the dumpling itself. The filling was good but the dumpling itself was a little watery. Not overly so but this took away from the quality of the dish. Loy Loy Dim Sum has a bunch of options so I'd try them again to get a better sample size. As of now, I wasn't terribly impressed.

Yelp
Stopped in to check out Post Market and came across this place. I got an order of their Curry Chicken Balls. They were made fresh and came out hot. The dough reminded me of a similar thing my grandmother used to make. The consistency of the dough was spot on and there wasn't too much curry flavor. I would have liked more curry but it was still delicious. They were cute pear shaped and the filling was enough - I love the dough part of these type of dumplings; others may want more filling. I'd get them again if I came back for a visit since I don't live in Houston.

Yelp
Located inside Post Market. I ordered the shrimp sui mai and sesame ball w salted egg yolk. Sui mai wasn't bad. However the sesame ball was terrible. I only ate half and couldn't finish it. It was hard with no flavor. Would not recommend ordering that.

Yelp
I love that dim sum is an option at the POST. The wait wasn't too bad for our order to be ready. We waited maybe only 10-15 minutes. We ordered: -har gau crystal shrimp dumplings -shrimp siu mai -BBQ pork buns One of my complaints is that the shrimp siu mai was VERY salty. I had to chug some water after eating lol. I loved how freshly steamed everything was though. They even provide soy sauce and chili oil. I loved the flavor and presentation of the har gau crystal shrimp dumplings too. It is definitely a bit pricier than if you were to go to an authentic dim sum place in Chinatown, per dish, but it's not bad for the convenience of already being in this area.

Yelp
As a Chinese person, this place is 10 out of 10. I grew up eating dim sum, and my parents were very particular about it and everyone else I know. I love their wonton broth the most, as it was flavorful and well thought of. Places are usually all about it or not, and since at a dim sum places it's not the focus, this soup is worth saving space for. The shui mai is authentic as it comes, the har gow was delicious too. The shrimp ball nailed it to the specs, and couldn't have been better. I would say try this place if you are an avid dim sum lover. Service was quick and thoughtful. They didn't let my food get cold.

Yelp
Overall this place was good, but not great. I was expecting a little more bang for the buck and richer flavors than what was delivered on my plate.

Yelp
I like the mix of unique cuisines at POST. It's a food court for foodies, and the meal I had Loy Loy Dim Sum was delicious. I had the chicken fried rice and an order of Har Gau. The rice dish was very generous and could have easily fed two. It was well seasoned and the large chunks of high quality chicken were tender and flavorful. The Har Gau was pretty good... spot on with flavor, but the rice noodle wrapper was a bit too thick for my liking.

Yelp
Food is edible, but has zero flavor. I had the shrimp with noodles, it was like eating thawed shrimp and flavorless noodles. This place would be good if they figured out how to add flavor to their food. Boyfriend got the sesame chicken and was very dry.

Morgan K.

Yelp
Edible. Overpriced and same quality as the grocery store offerings. Not a lot of pieces either. Service was fine but again food was a let down get something else fr.

Yelp
I was craving some Asian food coming here and it hit the spot for sure. I ordered the Chicken Broccoli Rice Bowl and their Sesame + Salted Egg Yolk balls. It wasn't too greasy which I usually have an issue with eating at restaurants sometimes. The Chicken dish was fresh and the rice was cooked very well. The Sesame balls were surpringsly subtly sweet and the yolk you can barely taste, which was good because it didnt taste weird at all! It would added a good hint of savoryness!

Yelp
Some of the freshest dumplings I've had! They have such a variety too, you can't just order one. Make sure you try a few of them; they won't disappoint!

Stephen K.

Yelp
whether you like traditional Chinese or dim sum, this is the place. Enjoy the dumplings... especially nice!
