The Best Tacos in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This family-run spot in Gert Town has excellent food, festive decor, and warm hospitality. Fiery salsa, freshly blended and served warm, and a huge menu hits the mark with tortas, chile relleno, tamales, and of course, tacos — the birria, lengua, and shrimp are all delicious." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Mexican Food in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Set back along a strip of shops off gritty Earhart Boulevard, Loya’s channels the street cuisine of Mexico City, the hometown for owners Perla Loya and her aunt Coco del Socorro Loya. Inside, the vibe is family hospitality, with a menu of homemade tortas, chile relleno, birria tacos, tamales, and warm, fiery salsa served with paper-thin, crispy chips. Summer means especially good sweet and savory elotes, Mexican street corn, rolled in crushed chili, lime tortilla chips and drizzled with spicy El Chilerito Chamoy sauce." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Restaurants for Takeout and Delivery in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Loya’s is an awesome spot for delicious classics like tostadas, pozole, menudo, as well as fresh, modern dishes like aguachile, quesabirria, and cauliflower tacos. It’s on the apps, but is in an easy-to-access location for pickup as a better alternative." - Clair Lorell

The Best Breakfast Tacos and Burritos in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Loya’s is a family-owned Mexican spot that opened during the pandemic, an awesome spot for delicious classics like tostadas, pozole, menudo, as well as fresh, modern dishes like aguachile, quesabirria, and cauliflower tacos. There’s a breakfast menu as well, including a burrito: scrambled eggs with bacon or chorizo topped with red sauce and sour cream and served with refried beans and roasted potatoes." - Clair Lorell

Google
One would be hard-pressed to find better enchiladas in New Orleans, we're looking forward to working our way through the menu. On this first visit, we loved the Chicken Mole Enchiladas and Enchiladas Suizas. These are refined homemade dishes, not something you would get in most places.

Google
Wow, exceptional elote! So tender & well seasoned. Fajitas with homemade 5 tortillas. Steak nachos & cheese dip. I love this place. I will be back

Google
The tacos only had one tortilla, I'm a big fan of double torts. The tacos tasted fantastic. If they had better tortillas, they probably would have gotten five stars from me. Update the tacos here are still good. The El pastor tacos are some of the best around.

Google
I love this place and have been several times now. The salsa is served warm and is addictive. The birria is on point and the aguachile is so refreshing. The mitcheladas are so good and gigantic with all the takin and chamoy you need. Have yet to be disappointed be this place. 10/10

Google
The best and most authentic Mexican restaurant in New Orleans. Period. The salsa is made fresh every day. Everything on the menu tastes exactly like you are in a small place in Mexico City getting a meal from your abuela. The birria is incredible. The tacos are fantastic. The chile relleno is amazing. Everything is delicious. And the desserts?? The tres leches is the best I've had so far in the world. The flan is insanely delicious and layered without being too much. And they have the best churros I've ever eaten. Period. If you want the real deal, come to Loya's!!!!

Google
Pretty cool place. Fairly new. Some nice decorations. There are some parking spots in front as well as street parking. It was fairly empty when I went. Staff was friendly. Gave us complimentary chips and salsa. They recommended the tamarind drink which was fantastic. tried the tacos and Birria. It was all great! Staff was attentive too. Would highly recommend!

Google
I went to Loya's for the first time today, and it won't be my last. I had the Quesabirria and my daughter had the steak nachos. My meal was so good, and portion was pretty big, so I took my food home because there's no way I could finish it. My daughter also brought her nachos home for the same reason. We also had Horchata and Jamaica (my favorite) to drink. We had a great experience, the service is so friendly and we also met some nice folks that were dining in, as well. I totally understand why this place has so many positive ratings.

Yelp
While visiting New Orleans I was craving a shrimp cocktail this place had Good service, the food was great and the price was reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
The food is ALWAYS fresh and hot. The service is always great and friendly. I love love love this place. It's my mom and I favorite taco place. The tinga tacos were beyond delicious, the fresh guacamole is forever my go to. The vibe is calm and relaxing everything is very festive and true to culture which is something I respect to the fullest just because of sticking to roots

Yelp
This is a small, quaint little restaurant right off Earhart Blvd. The decor is great and fun, there's even little avacado ornaments hanging on the wall. The restaurant appears to be family owned with basically just mom and son working. The food came out pretty fast considering so few workers. But since there are only 2 or 3 workers there, the overal service was slow. I ordered the elote regular and an off menu item. I asked if they could make me the molcajetes since I saw it on one of their pages. Molcajetes is a bowl made from volcanic rock that cooks food and adds flavor generally used in Mexican culture. The dish is filled with grilled meats and seafood. Theirs had shrimp, ham, the most amazing and flavorful chorizo, peppers, steak, panela cheese, and onions. Apparently it is a special so I guess you have to ask for it and hope they can make it if it's not on special that day. I was so very appreciative that they did make it for me because this dish was incredible! I think this dish is either the best or one of the best Mexican dishes in the city! I thoroughly enjoyed all the seasonings and flavors. I did not order any drinks or margaritas unfortunately so I can't attest to their awesomeness. The burrito was ok. So was the rice. The guacamole could have used less tomatoes. I enjoyed the slightly spicy salsa. Chips and flour tortillas seems fresh and homemade, perfection. Everything was so very reasonable priced. Thank you for being a perfect little restaurant with big flavors.

Yelp
I pass by this place so many times but have never noticed it. It was recommended to me as one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city. I don't need much convincing to try a different Mexican restaurant, so I came here the first chance I got. The menu does not have regular burritos on it (only kid's burrito), but they still make it. I had a chicken burrito that's made in a large tortilla. They serve it with a small side of rice and refried beans. I would have liked a little more, but I always want more lol. The burrito is cooked on the grill and is pretty decent. The real star of the show is the mushroom empanada!!!! It's served with a side of spicy mayo. These empanadas were the best empanadas I've ever had in my life! I will never not order these when I come. They are $5.99 for 3. They were soft and very flavorful. I could eat like 5 more. Please try them! *** There's parking in front of the restaurant, but very few. I parked on the side of the building. The place is decorated nicely and has nice table runners. They also have high chairs that are placed at the bar. You order at the counter. I think they prefer cash because there's a small fee for using a card or Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Yelp
This review is for delivery only. I ordered the same meal twice--because I am that person. The most exciting thing both times were the mushroom empanadas. I could eat ten of them. In fact, next time, I may just order several portions of them and nothing else. They are really yummy. I felt like the rest (chips and salsa, guacamole, and veggie quesadilla) were slightly inconsistent. The first time everything was amazing. The second time, things seemed a bit off. Nothing was bad, but the empanadas were better than the rest. The guac was a little too chunky, for starters. Overall, this is one of the better Mexican/Central American meals I've had in New Orleans. Will give them more business for sure. Check them out.

Yelp
Muy Authenico!! Classic Mexican dishes, large portions, great variety on the menu. I am currently working my way across the selections and so far I have tried and enjoyed tacos (of course), ceviche, gorditas, queso fundido and the house margarita. The chips are super thin and the salsa so fresh it is still warm! They have a brisk takeout business, a fairly small dining area, and a full selection of beer and cocktails. In a tiny strip mall, just off Earhart Blvd. near Carrolton, the parking area is tiny but there are some street spots one block over. We will be back!!

Lauren F.

Yelp
Tried again. Love that they offered grilled red snapper on the salad, but overly salted. The lettuce was shredded bagged stuff. The rice was blander than any rice-a-roni I've ever had.

Yelp
Nice new mexican option in an area that really needed it. I was craving guacamole, and I'd usually make it, but avocados in 3 stores I tried weren't ripe. Being a Wednesday, all Juan's locations were closed. What to do? I consulted my handy dandy Yelp! app and found this gem. I called in an order of cheese Chile Relleno and guacamole and chips (of course). The Relleno came as a meal, with black beans, yellow rice, flour tortillas, and a salad. Every component was flavorful and perfectly made. The star though was the Guac- I saved some for today and will definitely go back for more. The meal-sharing board was a great community touch. Please patronize this new business and show your support!

Yelp
This little place has incredible food! My husband and I ordered: guacamole, one Al pastor taco, Birria tacos and poblano enchiladas. There was nothing that was not delicious. The guacamole was super fresh. The Al pastor taco was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The Birria tacos were delicious and the consommé and green salsa put them over the top good. The poblano enchiladas had a wonderful flavor. Often in chicken enchiladas, the chicken is shredded and can be fairly dry. This chicken was more like fajita style and was not dry at all. When you come in, you get chips and salsa for the table and the salsa is so good! Smoky and spicy- different from the tomato-y salsa at most places. I am already planning what I would get next visit!
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
I love this little place. It is super chill during the day and a nice place to eat solo and get some work done. Try the enchiladas poblanos served with a fresh salad. And delicious homage salsa! Unassuming and authentic.

Yelp
Great and authentic food cooked by the most cheerful people. There weren't many people at the restaurant, and so all three employees greeted our table.
google avatar

Yelp
Holy moly! This food is fantastic. Fresh and delicious. I will definitely be back. Off the beaten path but worth the trip!
google avatar

Yelp
The service was slow - we were the only ones there. Took 10 minutes to get drinks. Our food did not come out as ordered. Both our plates had to be corrected. We didn't have hard or ridiculous orders. One was without the pico and I wanted flour tortillas instead of corn. Simple in my opinion. On top of that, we got food poisoning. I do not recommend.

Yelp
I was first introduced to Loya's through UberEats and one day I finally pulled up with some friends. It was hard for us to find at first; it's a bit hidden on the far side of a building but, there are signs outside the restaurant. Loya's Mexican Restaurant es muy delicioso! Seriously, the most authentic Mexican food I've found in NOLA; I've only really explored places close to downtown though. I don't think I've ever gotten anything besides the birria tacos and the quesabirrias. I have to get beans and rice each time cause I actually love love loveee Loya's beans and rice! I've taken many friends for their first visit and they all have loved it and gone back theirselves. The drinks are ALWAYS good! Very generous alcohol beverages. The restaurant itself has such a fun and family friendly atmosphere.. you feel like you're in someone's abuela's kitchen. They have a jukebox that you can Bluetooth too at almost every tablez They also have a wall with receipts taped to it from where customers buy a meal for whoever is in need; if you need a free meal, go to Loya's, pick a receipt from the wall, and place your order.

Yelp
Delicious! Truly authentic. Warm salsa was so good. Best enchiladas sueza in town. Can't wait to go back. Everything was reasonably priced. But the special on the wall did not match the bill and language barriers hindered a resolution.

Yelp
A must if you want authentic and super fresh Mexican food! I ordered the grilled snapper tacos with black beans and rice with an appetizer of guacamole. I wasn't used to chunkier guacamole but was so pleasantly surprised and their tacos were outstanding. I don't typically eat Mexican rice but found myself finishing the entire serving and the tortillas tasted like they were hand prepared. 10/10!

Yelp
Employee wise, all restaurants are short handed right now. I understand that. We walked in this place today and one guy was working in the kitchen, and there was one person dining. When we opened the door the guy working the kitchen looked over at us and just kept working. Figuring he was busy we grabbed a couple menus and sat ourselves. After perusing the menu for about 5 minutes deciding what we wanted, we waited. And waited. Finally, I said maybe we have to go order at the counter. We walked to the counter and waited, and waited. Being totally ignored. Then he plated up a dish, walks past us not saying a word, goes and gives it to the diner, walks back past us, goes and scrubs the grill, wipes it off, throws some tortillas on it and starts cooking something else! Maybe he didn't speak English? If so giving us a smile and raising one finger indicating "give me a minute" would have worked. But after being totally ignored for at least 10 minutes we left. If possible I'd give 0 stars.

Latoya G.

Yelp
Awesome food! Great Birria and Elotes. Our server was very pleasant. He gave us a fan due to the a/c being out.
google avatar

Bethany N.

Yelp
So yum! Great presentation and fair prices. Highly recommend the mole enchiladas! Salsa is made fresh.

Rebecca E.

Yelp
I want to eat here every day of my life, it was so good. We ordered via Uber Eats: -birria tacos: words can't describe. They were perfect. I may have shed a tear while inhaling them (pictured -the tacos, not me shedding a tear) -chicken quesadilla: I usually find these boring but they're my partners go-to; but WOW the flavor the chicken had paired with the in house made tortillas was amazing (pictured) -guacamole: sooo good. I love guacamole and eat a lot of it. This was definitely up there, very fresh with the perfect amount of chunks (sadly not pictured) -queso fundido: also stupid delicious, we borderline drank it (sadly not pictured) Now that I've typed this out and I am sitting here thinking about how delicious this meal was, I think I need to go order it again right now

Yelp
1 word AMAZING! Now more words so they actually get the review they deserve!! Salsa was homemade and hot from the slow cooker Chicken tinga was The best Mexican food in NOLA, period!
google avatar

Lyndell W.

Yelp
Never order through their website. They don't pay attention to any of the special instructions, we were missing food, the food that we did get was just thrown in boxes and when trying to talk to someone in the restaurant about what happened, barely anyone speaks English. Never order from this place unless you want a hot mess.

Marta W.

Yelp
Beware of ordering on your phone at this restaurant. I thought the food was not as good as before but I was hungry and near this restaurant so I used my phone to order. Bill was $25.00 approximately. I get to the restaurant to pick up food and they told me, in very poor English, they did not have my order. Gal at counter kept saying something about the app and not getting the money in their bank. They wanted me to pay for the food a second time; I showed her my phone saying I had paid by credit card. She got someone on the phone, again, very poor English and I understood the woman to say that the "company" is not good, that I would have to get my money back from the "company" and they would not give me the food unless I paid for it a second time. When I looked at the app, the only phone number listed was a phone for Loyas and they would not answer the phone. I think it's a scam. There was no way to recoup my money so I was out both the order of food and the money. BEWARE of being charged for food to pick up and not getting your order. VERY POOR SERVICE. I will NEVER return to this place.

Yelp
My new fave dish: Quesabirria! It's like the tacos that are all the rage these days, but better. Loya's is muy bien. Great food, great service, great margaritas! ¡Nuevo Tesoro escondido!
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Mexican restaurant made fresh, simply, and deliciously! Tortillas are made in house and to order. The horchata is creamy and literally the best I have tried so far. Definitely warrants a revisit! They're team is so friendly!

Yelp
While I've never dined in, I've ordered takeout from here 3 times this year alone. I order something different every time and it is always delicious! Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
Best items are chicken quesadilla (the chicken is marinated and grilled and adds such flavor) and the birria tacos! Grab a modelo and dine in or take out- most people take out.

Yelp
This was my first ordering from this restaurant. I ordered the flauta plate with guacamole and chips. The price was quite reasonable and food tasted very good. I had it delivered to my home, using Grubhub for first time. The driver delivered earlier than expected. Packaging was good and food was hot. All together, it was a great experience.

Z A.

Yelp
The best birria I have found in a New Orleans restaurant so far. The location isn't the best, but the place looked clean enough (by NOLA standards).

Laura W.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in new Orleans. The chilaquiles were phenomenal and everything we had was excellent. Great staff.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Really tasty! I tried the birria tacos and guacamole which were both excellent. My husband had the quesabirria and a margarita which he enjoyed. His dish came with a side of Mexican rice and beans and the rice was nice and fresh. I was also happy that the drinking water was filtered (IYKYK). Service was great. I look forward to coming back to try more of the menu.

Katrina E.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place! Latina woman run kitchen, serving food from the heart. So glad we stumbled across this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the best places aren't flashy. The birria tacos were delicious, I felt like they could have used a little more salt but the melted cheese combined with the meat made it work. Elotes with crunched takis??? Best I've ever had! Chicken flautas were frickin delish. Guac is so good. Tacos were great. Also don't forget to donate a meal to their meal board before you go! Warm chips and the most delicious salsa, heavy on the citrus which I love. Don't forget to ask for some homemade tortillas to take home to make your own creation! Thank you Loya!!

Yelp
I ate here several times while i was out here for work.... Try there steaks!!! Its the BEST IN THIS AREA

Yelp
Best quesabirria I've ever had! Really generous portions and the consome was to die for I will definitely come here again the next time I'm in New Orleans. Do not hesitate to eat here

Quintin F.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican cuisine that won't break the bank. I stopped here on a whim, and I'll definitely return!!

Mimi J.

Yelp
Good food. Had delivered. The mushroom empanadas weren't on the menu. Disappointed because read reviews about how good they were.

Lemansky G.

Yelp
Everything I've ever had from this restaurant totally slaps. I know everyone is crazy about birria but don't sleep on the elote or chilaquiles.

Joe O.

Yelp
Small, family owned and authentic. Ingredients were fresh and everything was very good. Very nice neighborhood place.

Merrill Dean R.

Yelp
Soo delicious! Authentic Mexican food! I had the shrimp tacos with a side of rice and beans and wow was it fresh! I will definitely be back! 10/10

Vivian S.

Yelp
Delicious food and wonderful service! We had the enchiladas suizas and birria tacos. Yummm can't wait to go back!
