In Houston, they call these "U Buy, We Fry" Shops, and they are fairly common. Ain't that right, Sunnyside/H-Town? Here, I haven't seen many of these shops, so it was nice to find one.
There are all sorts of fresh fish- flounder, bass, red fish, catfish, whiting, crab, scallops, oysters, clams, lobsters, etc. You pay by the pound for what you'd like, and you can choose to have them cook the food there for you, or you can take it home.
I'm going to try their crab legs, and have them cook them. Having spent 16 years in Boston (adopted home) I think I make pretty mean crab legs for much less (catch 'em on sale at Kroger for $11.99lb), so we'll see what they do.
One night, when my first choice, the sandwich shop a few doors down, was closed, I tried their catfish, and I am saddened to report that it was not very tasty- at all. Whatever they fried it in was hard and made a hard protective shell around the fish. It was pretty bad actually. I received one small serving of tartar sauce with my 2 piece fish order and was advised that any additional would be 50 cents each. Ok.
Stars may be revisited after the crab legs, but shall stand for now.
Oh. The proprietors were very nice. However, I was not pleased to see a Mary Norwood for Mayor sign in their front window. At all. Says a lot about what they think of the people that are the majority of their patrons. Well. At least the ones that I saw while I was in the store.
