Where to Eat in Milan, According to the 'Top Chef' Judges

"A family-run Sicilian bistro set in the courtyard of the contemporary art museum that feels like dining in a garden or at an elegant tea party; the menu channels Mediterranean island flavors with attractive sandwiches, cheeses, charcuterie, and a notable artichoke salad, with pleasant indoor-outdoor seating." - Laura Itzkowitz

The 19 Best Restaurants In Milan - Milan - The Infatuation

"LuBar, overlooking the elegant courtyard of an 18th-century villa that now houses the Modern Art Gallery of Milan, is more than a typical museum café. The gorgeous space serves food all day and fills up with elegant diners winding down at night. Pillowy bite-sized panelle chickpea fritters, mini arancini, and a raw bar cater to the aperitivo crowd, with cocktails and mocktails that go down easy. LuBar is also a great spot for a savory breakfast, which isn’t something you’ll find at many other places in Milan." - elizabeth de filippo jones

The 37 Best Restaurants in Milan, Italy | Eater

"The children of whimsical designer Luisa Beccaria started Lùbar as a simple food cart, but today the business occupies the portico area of the Villa Reale estate. Overlooking Milan’s public gardens, Lùbar serves as the cafe of Milan’s GAM (Modern Art Gallery). The fin-de-siecle decor, reminiscent of a winter garden, pairs well with the neoclassical structure of the villa. Dishes served in Sicilian ceramic bowls — like chickpea-flour flatbread paired with avocado, downsized arancine, and pistachio-speckled shrimp — blend Sicilian tradition with modern trends. The dessert selection is more traditional. Get the cannoli, which are filled on the premises. Best for: Rubbing elbows with the fashionistas." - Elizabeth De Filippo-Jones

Good food - friendly service - great interior Our waiter was very attentive and even surprised us with a birthday dessert and a huge smile. The food was delivered really fast and everything was delicious and nicely presented. The interior design is beautiful with dim lighting, French vintage bistro furniture and plants all over the plants. I can highly recommend it!

We ate in the smaller greenhouse section with a group of 7 during the busy design week. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. Pleasant atmosphere, perhaps the service is a bit slow but nothing to complain about. We had a lovely time. Recommend!

We ordered three dishes and were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The parmigiana eggplant was slimy, overly oily, and inedible. The clam spaghetti tasted extremely fishy, and the clams did not taste fresh at all. The chicken curry was bland and far from authentic, and to make things worse, the rice was undercooked and hard to chew. For the prices charged, this meal was unacceptable. I would not recommend this restaurant.

One of our favorites. And the pasta a la Norma is one, if not the, best pastas I’ve ever had. A special treat is listening to a beautiful aria sung by a member of the staff (can’t remember her name). But she has the voice of an Angel.

LùBar in Milan has a gorgeous interior – the place looks amazing with beautiful decor and plates. It’s really a “wow” when you walk in. But the food was just okay. You can expect €21 for a simple piece of bread with avocado and an egg, which felt too expensive for what it was. We got omelette with ham and cheese for €16. The place is definitely worth seeing for the atmosphere, but don’t expect too much from the food.

Wonderful Experience at LùBar – Highly Recommended! It was truly special. Even though the place was fully booked, the staff went out of their way to find us a table, which we really appreciated. The place is absolutely beautiful with such a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious – the avocado toast was perfect! The service was kind and pleasant throughout. We had a great time.

Is a nice place but not fantastically special, if you have no reservation, you have to wait for 0,5-1 hour. Food is ok but could be way better.

We weren’t very hungry, so we stopped by without a reservation. Luckily, there was an empty table available. However, I recommend making a reservation in advance, as it can get quite busy. The food was tasty and worth a visit!

Yelp
Two hour wait to eat inside. Westernized brunch spot in Milan. Nice nature indoors to see and enjoy as you eat brunch. We weren't too hungry at this point but we ordered some "greens" which are rare in Italy! Those were good. The arancini and the pasta were good as well. However, best of all was the dessert, I can't explain it but it was delish! I would probably come back for the dessert and the views. Docking two stars because the menu wasn't exciting enough and almost every dish had pork so it made it hard to select from.

Yelp
Had spent Thanksgiving in Milan, and snagged a resy a while back. We sat in the beautiful indoor courtyard for dinner. Tables are within close proximity and could get hot, but the ambiance is fab. Heard that the place is always packed. We had pizza for our teen which was a small deep dish style pie, had the seafood starter for two which had everything fresh from tartare to oysters, seafood pasta and pistachio cake. Shared a bottle of wine which I'm still blown away because a bottle similar in the Bay would cost an arm and a leg. Love the little touches of compliments of the "chef" like the arancini and after dinner drink that we ended up taking a bottle home! A definite nice to try and get to while in Milan. Walking around town, we found another LùBar with outdoor seating and much more casual. Lovely Thanksgiving dinner while travelling.

Yelp
Had breakfast in the greenhouse garden area which was nice and warm on a cold morning. Love the greenery and china with greenery decor. Omelette has spinach and ham (can get 2 options) which was perfect amount. Cappuccino with almond milk was great. Service was quick and staff was nice.

Yelp
This is a pleasant upscale cafe with indoor and outdoor seating right in the courtyard of the Modern Art Gallery. Service is slow and food is pricy, but the choice of dishes is good and it is hard to beat the location. A great option for a break in your gallery visit. Reservation is recommended. Make yours when you start the gallery.

Yelp
The spot is super beautiful! Make sure you make reservation if you want to sit in the indoor courtyard. We came for breakfast and only tried the croissant and Avocado toast. They are okay now awful. Overpriced but you pay for the beautiful surroundings!.

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner here. Reservations were easy to make (and modify) through their website. We showed up 30 minutes early for my modified reservation and they were still able to seat me quickly. As you walk in, the staff stops to greet you as you walk by them to your table. We were seated in the garden area, which was a well-decorated covered outdoor patio area that felt very cozy. My coworker and I both ordered the "Elephant's Ear", or breaded veal steak (5/5), which I highly recommend. We also shared the squid ink and lemon arancini (4/5), which were unique and very different - I probably would have preferred the beef ragu version more. For dessert, I got the mini cannolo di ricotta (3/5), which I didn't like very much. While all of the other staff were very friendly in greeting us and saying goodbye to us when we walked out, unfortunately our own server was cold in comparison and inattentive - I had to call him over each time to order more drinks, dessert, and get the check. I know he had a few tables in the garden, but checking in on us at least once after taking our order would have been nice!

Yelp
Food: 8/10. Really great overall! We're in Italy, so pasta is finally cooked the right way, al dente!! They were generous with the pesto sauce. I wish they gave more tomatoes in the pasta. The carpaccio was my favorite. The lemon oil was amazing, and the salt flakes they used on it really worked well to elevate the flavor!! I should've ordered a second one. Service: 8/10. Friendly. Fast. We had a reservation. No complaints here! Atmosphere: 7/10. We sat in the green room. It was indeed very green. Very botanical. Super well-lit. But since it's EU, space is extremely cramped and chairs and tables are small which I guess is the norm over here but something to get accustomed to if you're from the US where you won't bump your neighbor if you stretch.

Yelp
Stumped on which one to get? Grab the Ragu. Everything here was yummy but that was definitely the best. We were so glad to find this place in the train station as we weren't starving and wanted to eat something that was light but would keep us full and happy till we reached our destination. Kid-friendly, quick ordering, good food. Def recommend.

Yelp
14€ euros for avocado toast... that was so small. And 3.5€ for chai tea. This place was incredibly overpriced. While my meal was delicious & fresh, it should have been 2x the size for what I paid. You are paying to sit in a fancy, tropical oasis, but it's not worth it. Go to Pavé, Panini Durini, Princi, Pandenus instead. Lubar is not worth your money.. sorry Lubar ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ they were even repotting a plant & using construction tools while we were eating. Service was not great. Won't be returning or recommending to anyone.

Yelp
I didn't expect italians to make this type of food and do it well. Everything was INCREDIBLE. The flavors were perfect. The restaurant itself is GORGEOUS. The outdoor seating is set in a beautiful courtyard of a villa. The inside is equally stunning. Highly recommend making a reservation though. Otherwise you might wait 1-2 hours. We waited a little over an hour. It was worth the wait.
