Lucas Carton

"The name refers to the long history of this restaurant: Robert Lucas set up his "Taverne Anglaise" here in 1732; Francis Carton joined their two surnames together in 1925 to come up with the new identity of Lucas Carton, which went on to be awarded three Michelin stars in the 1930s; Alain Senderens, who in 2005 decided to give it his own name in order to fully relaunch it. Today, the establishment has discreetly adopted the new codes of contemporary fine dining. Chef Hugo Bourny (who has worked at Marsan, Maison Pic and La Vague d'Or, to name but a few) knows how to bring out the essence of fine ingredients with his instinctive cuisine, which draws on the very best of France's terroir – a special mention for the vegetables grown by small-scale farmers. The story continues for this iconic restaurant." - Michelin Inspector

A Saturday night in Paris and the 5-course tasting menu for two with a bottle of wine. French fine dining at its best with all the classical touches - a good excuse to dress up and drink fancy wine. Remembered for dishes I don’t normally enjoy but loved. Masterful use of mushrooms, beetroot and asparagus. Perfectly cooked mains, craft and technique everywhere. The ambiance was a little quieter and the service a little colder than we are used to.

Service is ok, they could make the staff explain the food better. For 100e+ what u get is pretty decent but not mindblowing great, vibe is ok

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat on a very hot summer day; patio is shady; under a tree canopy, and with a view of the Madeleine. Already a great start in my book. Ordered the gazpacho and an iced tea, and it was absolutely fantastic! I will be back another time for dinner :)

I had the five-course with wine paring. The sommelier’s selection of the food and wine pairing was deliberated. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious and flavourful. The asparagus was my favorite! Nice combination with ice cream.

Very well located in Madeleine area, this Michelin star restaurant offers one of the best gastronomic experience in Paris! As one of the oldest restaurant of the city, Lucas Carton has a beautiful interior. The food is simply delicious with the chef offering some creative takes on French dishes and the selection of wine is very comprehensive. The service is welcoming and very nice too! It's definitely one of my favorite restaurant so far 👌👍😊

Excellent food. We ordered the a la carte menu. The dishes were perfectly made. We ordered the scallops and lobster. It was amazing. I also ordered the potato pie as starter which I truly enjoyed. The desserts - especially the chocolate one - that's probably one of the most memorable chocolate desserts I've had in a while. The perfect combination. Highly recommend. It wasn't very busy but service was quite slow. It looked like the staff were still in training so most of what we asked about the dishes, they had to keep going back to the kitchen to ask.

Amazing service. All of our waiters were friendly and helpful. The food was beautifully presented. This is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The prices are high, but if you can afford them it is worth it. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. We had the seven course tasting menu with the wine pairings and I have no complaints to make.

We were transported into the old world luxury. Delicious food but slightly bland for my Asian palette. Our waitress,Savannah took care of us really well and made us feel like family. Be prepared to be pampered there for 5 hours if you select the 7 courses with wine pairing.

Yelp
Our large group tried many items on the à la carte menu. There are signs of brilliance (cauliflower, lobster, sweetbread, St Pierre, the amuse-bouches). The food is very good, deserving of its 1 Michelin star and 17/20 Gault&Millau rating. Some may find certain dishes a bit too sweet. Service is professional, although on several occasions we were wondering where our wine was. Talented and friendly chef Julien Dumas appears frequently in the dining room to talk to guests - a real bonus!

Yelp
Food was good, slow service and the environment was much more casual than expected. Again disappointed in the service and quality of food for Michelin star restaurant. Service was slow, our party was moved to the upstairs private room making service horrible in a very hot room. You could show up in shorts/jeans and shirt to get service still. Showed up thinking that slacks and a shirt minimum were required, wearinf a suit but no tie to see a gentleman in white shorts and ed hardy shirt being seated. They attempt an upscale environment with cheesy bow ties and a snobby smile, when we sat we waited 30 minutes just to order wine and when asked what we wanted to order it was before we could even ask questions about the menu. When a tasting just says tasting, the customer might actually want to know what items are part of the tasting. Food was very good, but not suprisingly good or better than other restaurants i experienced in France. Not worth the time or price, however if you do eat here I would recommend the foie gras, and pistachio pigeon.

Yelp
The WORST dinner ever. We had our NYE here and it could not have been more awful. Service was horrific. They forgot that one in our party was a vegetarian and once reminded were unapologetic. They forgot to get us more water and opened a second (pricey) bottle of wine without asking. It was seriously a bad dream. It took 40-50 minutes between courses and often 20 minutes to clear our plates. The food was mediocre at best. They acted annoyed to have us in the restaurant. Avoid at all costs. There are so many fantastic restaurants in Paris... Why risk it?!

Yelp
Been twice. Had the big tasting menu both times. Probably both of the best meals I've ever had, albeit probably the priciest. I wasn't entirely enticed by the menu at first glace, but in tasting it, it blew my mind. Really good for a celebration or classy night out. Caters to vegetarians upon request.

Yelp
I love this place. Well, I used to. I've been here a lot over the past few years and it's always been a go to because: 1. Food is Great 2. Service is great and incredibly friendly. overall always a great place, but literally my last visit was so bad it is not forgivable. I liked this place enough to looks up their famous canard apicius and try to make it at home for thanksgiving. I was a fan. Took the family here for NYE in Paris because I thought it would be great as usual. WORST RESTAURANT EVER. 1. Disgusting service. filling own water glass and forget about wine. literally getting out of my chair to go get the wine bottle. 2. COLD food. literally 45 minutes between courses and 20 minutes to clear plates. Alain Senderens: your food is great. You dropped out of the Michelin system to have great food and friendly atmosphere. You should clear your current managers because right now you have mediocre food and awful service. My dinner was 2800Euros. for six people. Worst meal of the trip.

Yelp
After trying to get into at least 8 or 10 Michelin-rated restaurants in Paris, we were able to make a 7:30 reservation here. We entered a beautifully decorated room in both art deco and modern. Sensual lighting on the ceiling and underneath-lit etched glass on the walls that changed colors. There was even subdued lighting inside our table-top in floral patterns! The 4 course tasting menu was paired with unusual wines, and the pairing choices were absolutely the best I have ever experienced. Some of the courses were inventive and some traditional, but all were done to perfection. The service was impeccable and efficient. The Amuse bouche contained soba noodles and duck consomme aspic. Delightful. The first course was foie gras terrine with beet juice reduction and wasabi, paired with a red Italian wine, a very big surprise, and it worked perfectly. The second course was more traditional, turbot with mushrooms and a lemon cream foam, but it was done perfectly. The third course was also traditonal, a dry aged beef sirloin with a beautiful sauce and puffed potatoes, which by the way were lighter than air. Getting them to puff that much is an art. A pre-dessert featuring fresh strawberries was divine. The actual dessert was quite inventive and artfully arranged. It had pears, orange "marmalade" and ginger ice cream, as well as some spice and crispy things. Just fantastic. To top it all off, we ended up paying half what most restaurants "gastronomique" would charge. A wonderful experience!

Yelp
SO overrated. I'd want to give this place 3 stars for the food but given the price no way. This place for the stuffy dusties.

Yelp
Absolutely elegant, warm yet minimal room with a long table great for large parties to celebrate. It's French. It's Paris. It's warm. Wine flows. The quintessential Parisian experience.

Yelp
It's hard to imagine that Senderens ever had a Michelin star -- maybe Senderens opted out of the Michelin rating system just in time... We went last night and I'd say the food quality was mixed at best. The fricasée of chanterelle mushrooms (which my wife had) was excellent. The "mushroom burger" with foie gras was not (imagine cold button mushrooms on top of foie gras). The lobster ravioli at 50 Euros a pop was insipid; the cochon de lait was only o.k. The service was also unremarkable at best, off-putting at worst... We knew we would pay about 200 Euros/person, which we did -- so yes, expectations were a little higher... If you must, try Bar le Passage upstairs, which shares the same kitchen as Senderens. You're more likely to pay a price point commensurate w/ the quality of the food...

Yelp
I went here for lunch Spring 2016. The downstairs restaurant was deserted, and very miserable. I chose the upstairs "cafe", which is typically full of atmosphere, as it is normally French who go there. I was the only non-French on my day. Having eaten at Tour d'Argent the previous day, my expectations were high. But why not? This is supposed to be a serious restaurant. Utterly disappointing! Service was OK for a normal place, but not for a top eatery. The food was bland in the extreme. The glass of wine I had was best drunk quickly. Should have gone to Le Colibri on the other side of the square. (P.S. Tour d'A was terrific!)

Yelp
Over-hyped, rude, and pretentious fancy French dining. At first I thought it was just me and my friend who were being treated like we were invisible. Then I noticed the lovely French couple to our right waiting half an eternity for their check and others all around being treated to the same brusque service and overwhelmingly patronizing attitude. The food is good (and the only reason I am giving this place 3 stars), but not nearly worth the price or the painful service. Go to this place instead: L'ATELIER MAÎTRE ALBERT-- 1 rue Maître Albert (a half block south of quai de Montebello). More on this later, but it was the best meal I ate in France.

Yelp
Went to this place for dinner on my last night in Paris and afterwards, I wished I hadn't. First of all, if you go to this restaurant, be ready to pay a lot of money. It is quite expensive but I am not sure why. Second thing, the staff can be kind f rude. The server who worked with me primarily was okay but some of the others were just comically rude. Third and final point, the food plain sucked. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. That said, make sure you do stop by the Patrick Roger chocolate store window on your way. The things that they sculpt with chocolate really are amazing.

Yelp
Having lived in Paris for three years, I was a bit surprised that no one had ever recommended this restaurant to me. Senderens, located right off the Place de la Madeleine, is truly one of the most exquisite restaurants in all of Paris. Though the French dine later in the evening, we made a reservation for 8:30, knowing that our meal would be a three hour affair. After our coupes de champagne, we studied the menu intently, reading each item out-loud (quietly) to one another. Lobster ravioli with truffle oil, milk-fed veal... We each ended up choosing something different, but all agreed to do a wine pairing with our starter and main plate- something I would highly recommend doing when dining en France. Everything we ordered surpassed even our highest expectations. The preparations were exquisite and no detail went untouched. And just when we thought we were finished, voila, our cheese plate arrived. Dessert came shortly thereafter. When in Rome.. Three hours later, after our espressos had come and gone, our meal had officially come to an end. How the French can afford to eat like this (150+ euro per person), and maintain their slender physique are perhaps questions we will never have the answers to. I would especially recommend Senderens as a place to celebrate a special occasion or event. From the exquisite decor of pastel coloured butterflies and dark carved wood moldings, to the elegant clientele in their finest French couture, the ambience was nothing short of remarkable. Coupled with the most charming of waitstaff in all of Paris, an extraordinarily comprehensive wine-list, and one of the most brilliant chefs in all of France, Senderens reminds you what a five star dining experience should look, sound, and taste like.

Yelp
From the moment the mechanical doors opened into the restaurant, we knew this was going to be "one" experience... Were greeted by a good looking woman, seated at a cozy corner table overlooking the rest of the room, and the experience started. The place is beautifully decorated, though the lighting is a little dark (reds) and not helpful when taking photos. The waitress was snotty (unlike the waiters) barely wearing a fixed moue during our ordering (isnt it a great moment?) and all through the meal. But who cares? she wasn t the one eating, we were! The amuse bouche was delicious, the dishes we ordered were perfectly executed, innovative, pretty and tasty. In between plates, the waiter brought us pannacottas that I still salivate when reminded of ... We dressed up for the occasion, but not over the top: dark pants and a knit top, while my husband wore a jacket but no tie (lunch). We saw french lawyer types wearing different priced suits and only two women, one of which was with her two kids, the little girl appearing to be 8... The whole experience was expensive and certainly worth it, the food being perfect and the scenes around us very entertaining. I wish I could go back there often, say once every 3 months, would be lots of fun!

Yelp
The location is great, but they missed the target. It used to be an old school *** Guid Michelin Restaurant. Today it is trying to be hip with a ok decor and halfway decent food, which is not great. The atmosphere today resembles more a Brasserie with the right noise level. But it is also not a brasserie for it is trying to be hip... All in all one can not be sure what it is. The food is not composed, but much rather thrown together. It seems that no one in the kitchen has tried the food or otherwise they would know that on one of their signature dishes the ham (which is supposed to be from Spain, which I highly doubt) is so salty that it destroys the very fine taste of the accompanying mushrooms. Or the petite four (cakes served with coffee or tea) are so old and chewy that I have no idea how this Restauran could have ever received ** Guide Michelin Stars. Please do not go there for fine dining. I for one will not!

Yelp
We ate on the main floor, the $$$$ part of the restaurant. Nothing about the meal was "wow", unique or impressive. All of the food was mediocre and at that price point, there are way better meals to have. Our hotel concierge made the reservation for us for our anniversary. We arrived at the restaurant, and we were likely the only English speakers at the place, definitely the only non-white customers in the restaurant as well. I don't know if that's why the service was short but at a place like this food and service need to be 5 star. Towards the middle of our meal, the chef went and talked to every single table, but opted to skip ours which was very obvious when he went to the other 10 occupied tables. Not like we cared to meet him, but its just rude. Overall, skip this one on the list. Try L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon instead. We've been a number of times in Paris (both locations) and they never disappoint. Wish we would have skipped this one and done the same.

Yelp
Just had a wonderful 25 Anniversary dinner here with my wife. We skipped entrees, and went right for the main course as my wife was not that hungry. I had the chicken, and she had the roast pig in curry. I know the chicken was perhaps the best I've had in 10 or 15 years, and Mary said the pork was excellent. The suggested wine pairing was wonderful. After an amuses bouchée, we had dessert. Mary had the white peaches, and I had the cake with strawberries, in my case paired with a wonderful 2011 Muscat. I just wish this restaurant was a few thousand miles closer to home
