Rooftop bar with Mexican specialties, creative cocktails, and views

"A mix of tourists and straight-from-work happy hour-seekers keep Lucha Rosa, a Mexican rooftop bar on top of the Moxy Hotel, constantly busy. Although it might be standing room only, we like coming in right after work when the vibe feels like a Summer Friday every day of the week. Order the pulpo ceviche, pork belly tacos, and something from the lengthy agave list. Thanks to a retractable roof, the patio is open rain or shine." - madeline weinfield
"Lucha Rosa has everything you need to unwind on a Friday evening. A DJ pumps a mix of reggaeton and R&B at the Moxy Hotel rooftop bar as a crowd of 20 and 30-somethings lounge on bubblegum pink velvet couches tossing back drinks so smooth, they couldn’t possibly be strong (they are). Which is why you may find yourself feeling a little twirly after three glasses of something called a Bed of Roses, a cocktail made with lots of tequila and rosé." - omnia saed, tristiana hinton

"Head to Lucha Rosa for a Barbie fix to sip on the Bed of Roses cocktail. Tequila, Campari, grapefruit, rose, and pink peppercorn combine in the rooftop space adorned in magenta flowers." - Vinciane Ngomsi
"Perched atop the 200-room Moxy hotel at 1011 K Street NW, I visited a long-awaited rooftop oasis that opens on April 11 and offers rare late-night bar service (until 2 a.m. on weekends) in a 9-to-5 neighborhood. To reach it you take the lobby elevator to the 13th floor and encounter an Oaxaca-style, magenta-flowered cantina—its name literally translates to “pink struggle” and nods to Mexico’s wrestling culture—with a mix of indoor/outdoor seating, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a retractable roof that frames views of the Washington Monument. The bar boasts an abundant agave collection of 130 curated bottles, including destilado de agave, Raicilla, Bacanora, Sotol, and mostly additive-free tequilas from traditional producers, alongside a tightly curated list of nine cocktails ($14–$20), all-canned wines, and bottled beers; the cocktail program is playful and fruit-, flower-, and spice-forward, and my favorite pick from the piece was the Monarch (orange, banana, spices, and a Michoacán rum). The one-page food menu focuses on seasonal, local purveyors—vegetables from Atlas Farms help make a Caesar with garlic croutons, Cotija, and creamy black pepper dressing; ceviche uses Maryland rockfish with avocado, tomato, red onion, and lime; tacos ($8–$12) come in five varieties; and two tortas ($16–$17) pile roasted mushrooms or crispy chicken on bread. Hours are 5 p.m.–10 p.m. Sunday–Wednesday with bar service until 2 a.m. Thursday–Saturday, and the team plans weekly music and entertainment including a DJ on Fridays and Saturdays." - Tim Ebner
