"This dining room in the luxe Bernardus Lodge & Spa boasts its own garden, which provides many of the superb ingredients, and is proof of the kitchen’s dedication to local and seasonal food. It might show a talent and focus on vegetables, but highlights from the nightly menu as well as à la carte may include brilliantly tender lamb, served as medallions of deboned ribeye with rosemary jus on a bed of sautéed greens. There is a casual feel to the upscale lodge-like interior, with its large fireplace and muted colors. It's located just off the lobby but draws diners from well beyond mere hotel guests. The view alone, overlooking the Carmel Valley and Bernardus vineyards, may be worth a visit. Better yet, come on a sunny day and dine alfresco on the patio." - Michelin Inspector

The 17 Best Restaurants In Carmel - Carmel - The Infatuation

"By day, Lucia at Bernardus Lodge & Spa is where locals and hotel guests grab a casual drink or some crab cakes and oysters. But when the sun sets and the lights dim, couples arrive in Teslas and Audis to celebrate anniversaries or enjoy a high-end date night. The chef takes inspiration from what’s available from the on-site gardens to create bright, hyper-seasonal dishes like vegetable ravioli with sunchoke celery root purée and pattypan squash, or crispy pork belly with charred carrot purée and pea relish. Order à la carte or choose the four-course tasting menu, which centers on a different star produce every month—corn, peas, asparagus, and so on. The massive wine book with 15,000-plus options is a tad overwhelming, but your server will guide you." - allison green, clara hogan

Google
Good food and service, excellent location (grounds, views, rose/vegetable garden).

Today for the first time my husband and I went to dinner at Lucia restaurant. Since we arrived our Hostess was very attentive, he welcomed us with a big smile. They allowed us to choose the best table. Our waiter Luis was very attentive. The food was too delicious, the busser was also very attentive. Holly was very attentive to us. Luis our waiter was always attentive to ensure that we were enjoying the food and the place. Sidney brought the food with a big smile. This was one of the best experiences my husband and I had at a dinner where we celebrated his birthday! This place is very cozy, beautiful, elegant, we loved it! Thank you all so much for making our night very special.

Google
I came here for a last minute dinner and was delightfully surprised by the prompt service. The food is delicious, and the king salmon is ah-mazing! It’s well suaved with a crispy cover. The steak is surprisingly tender too. One bummer is the bread - I wish the bread is softer. Overall, I enjoyed the meal a ton and came back for lunch the next day (again). The salmon didn’t disappoint!

Google
Amazing place. Service is top notch, food is super delicious on the level of Michelin star, cozy atmosphere and great vibe of Carmel valley. somewhat pricey but in my opinion worth it. We got ahi tuna for appetiser, salmon, butternut squash ravioli for main dishes and both were amazing. For desert we got fig cheesecake with pistachios and it was mind blowing. Nice wine selection and some draft beers. very special place!

Google
Phenomenal place. Just shy of a Michelin star in my opinion. Ingredients are fresh and stay truthful to their flavors. Nothing is pretentious. It is just good food presented in an upscale, classy manner. The food is a bit subdued for the atmosphere but perhaps that's what the chef is going for. I couldn't ask for a better dinner with friends and family. Will return just for Lucia.

Google
Great service and food. Atmosphere was good. Caesar salad 5/5, tuna tartare 4/5, crab cake 4/5, mushroom mac 4/5, tenderloin 5/5

Google
We were looking for a place to eat and a local recommended this place. We were staying a the lodge and we generally don’t eat at our hotel restaurant. This restaurant is a definite exception. My short rib dinner dish was as good as it gets. Here is something I’ve never said. My huevos rancheros breakfast was my favorite meal of the trip.

Google
Very underwhelming. Went yesterday for early Mother's Day. Food was marginal, at best, gloppy caesar salad, but maybe I should have know better than to order. Setting is beautiful - so there is that. Too many dogs, barking at one another when they pass by. Seems if I wanted to eat at the SPCA, that might have made better sense. No, I don't hate dogs either. Altogether, I don't imagine I would ever go back. Higher prices, marginal quality, very nice setting, while dining at a kennel. Put the people and their dogs elsewhere, as you would have back when people smoked.

Yelp
One of our all time favorites and consistently amazing. Whether we eat indoors at a booth or table or out on the covered patio with our pooch alongside the staff and food are consistent and amazing. Cocktails always to our liking and they now know 'our drink' and ask if we want our usual. Water preferences the same. Sometimes we are here for a full course dinner - sometimes just a salad and appetizer - either way we are welcomed and the place is warm and inviting. Food delish. Love the new concepts for each month too (peas one month, corn the next, artichokes another) where local produce in season is featured in the menu. We also love to pop to Lucia when we are seeking a little summer warmth. Honestly all year round it's great. Lunch time the hamburger is amazing. Love the caesar anytime - always with hearts - as it should be - none of that tough dark green leafy stuff - salmon is divine. We have also had duck, filet, other types of fish and the place never disappoints. Right up there with Cella another favorite and both are wonderful for a quick night out, a fun night hosting guests who come down to the peninsula to visit, special occasion or 'just because' = love the dog friendliness too!

Yelp
This is just for Lucia Restaurant-- Maybe the best food in Monterey Peninsula. I've given "5" reviews and loved it. This is more of a "tip" -- had the lamb last night to celebrate wife's Bday. Food excellent- so why then"3l"--the lamb cost $60. I got 2 small ribs. Not two double ribs. About 4oz I'd guess. When dinner was over I asked our server if the portion was normal - Alex replied "yes"-- I am still a bit perplexed how two little but very tasty chops can cost as much as 14oz prime NY? Or 7 oz prime filet. Go to restaurants just don't order Lamb. No value for money spent.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Carmel Valley. We've had breakfast and lunch and dinner here over the years and the changing menu is always delicious, locally sourced and seasonably delicious. Ambience is wonderful and they take good care of us.

Yelp
Ordered the market salad to go and wish I'd checked the box before leaving. No goat cheese whatsoever and at best half of one beet and maybe a teaspoon of sunflower seeds. Total rip-off and if they can't get a $26 salad right I'd be out of my mind to fork over multiples of that for a full meal. Disgraceful.

Yelp
Just had a lovely work lunch at Lucia @ Bernardus. In particular, I thought the chef did a great job substituting for the risotto in the scallop dish, since I have a dairy intolerance. Lucia is not a cheap restaurant, but I think it's priced where it should be and it lives up to expectations at that price point. I do wish I had known that valet parking was complimentary. Since it was, I'm not sure a staff member needed to tell me to move my car out of a valet spot--of which there were many dozens open--and surely that staff member should have mentioned the complimentary valet parking. But live and learn, I guess

Yelp
Food was ok, but more importantly no personality or warmth from the lunch waiter and lunch hostess. When we arrived, the hostess would not make any eye contact. The waiter only showed any slight friendliness until delivering the bill. With that being said the servers bringing out the food were very friendly. Although surroundings are beautiful, I wouldn't go back for the food. They also really need to work on making customers feel more welcome.

Yelp
When we decided to vacation in Carmel for the holiday weekend, the first restaurant that I booked was Lucia. My husband and I had many memorable dining experiences at Marinus over the past 25 years. The mushroom soup was delicious, and had layers of flavor. The strawberry rhubarb salad was watery and disappointing. I ordered the Filet Mignon for my main course, and was served an extremely tough cut of meat, which definitely wasn't a Filet. Our server was understanding and kind and quickly offered to replace it. The manager also came out to apologize and I said that I wanted my steak to be a true medium, pink center. My husband told her not to rush it as we wanted it cooked correctly. The next filet came out rare in the center but dark, almost burned on the outside. At this point, I gave up. They offered to give me any entree at no charge, which is awesome customer service, but I declined. This was to be a special dinner celebrating our years together, by returning to a restaurant we've enjoyed over the years. We still paid $149. for a disappointing dinner.

Yelp
My husband brought me here for my birthday-weekend-dinner. This place is pretty far out in the boonies and seems more so when you're driving at night but once we drove up, it was pretty b/c of the lights. The service was fantastic - I forgot our server's name, but he was really great and made conversation with us. It felt like we were talking with a friend. He even gave us a couple restaurant recommendations during our stay in the area. He also shared with us that due to the weather, they would've normally opened the back area. I would like to return for brunch another day. He told us the specials and my husband selected the swordfish (special). He enjoyed it. I also enjoyed my filet mignon and was cooked perfectly. My iced tea was good! I know that sounds odd b/c it's just iced tea but I find it's too strong sometimes when I order it elsewhere. The server brought out a birthday dessert for me, and lemme tell you, it was giant! I think it was one of the most beautiful chocolate cakes I've had. The honeycomb crumble on top was really unique. He shared that they have bees from which they get the honeycomb. So that was pretty cool. I highly recommend them if you're celebrating a birthday or something special - they'll take good care of you. Side note: The restroom was a lil fancy in that they have little hand towels to dry your hands and you toss them in the basket by the door on your way out. The men's also has it b/c my husband went first and then he asked if me the women's also had the towels. I confirmed yes. This place is pretty nice and fancy. I don't get why some folks think it's cute to show up wearing a hoodie and a baseball hat to dinner. I wish they'd enforce some type of dress code.

Yelp
Wow! This is a hidden gem in Carmel Valley Ranch! Best chicken sandwich and salads. We had a wonderful lunch, passing thru. The hotel and restaurant ambience can't be beat! Service was excellent and food delicious. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner in their covered patio and could not of been more pleased with the food, drinks and service. Loved idea of a fixed menu, but not a fan of asparagus so will wait for another month. Everything was super fresh, probably flown in or cut earlier that day. The chef has some good dishes on the menu. Drinks were delicious not too strong and all top shelf stuff. Staff was friendly and recommended for our dietary restrictions.

Yelp
The food is amazing. The grounds are gorgeous. This is an upscale resort with great restaurant to dine in.

Yelp
Just checked in- but we are not staying. The hostess, Ashaa, was rude and borderline racist. I am here with my in laws and husband and the way she spoke down to my in-laws and spoke to us like we were stupid was OFFENSIVE! This is a fancy place and we are here for a special event and were recommended to come to Lucia to get a bite while we wait for our test drive. The hostess is your first impression and to be treated like that upon arrival and in general was UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE! Needless to say we did not eat here and so I can't report on the food or the other staff, or ambiance. For a place that has high end clients coming through

Yelp
tldr: ambiance is nice but food leaves much to be desired. We ended up stopping by at Lucia's since it was open late in comparison to other restaurants in Carmel Valley. They were very accommodating and got us seated immediately. The vibe was classy and intimate. Now onto the food, we got the chicharron for the appetizer and it was the best part of the meal. The ravioli was alright - bland would have liked it to be more flavorful. The pork chop was NOT to be desired - it was dry and not flavorful at all. We had mentioned this to the waiter and she was very accommodating and took it back and brought us another rendition of the pork chops.... However, the second rendition was basically the same so we just tried to eat it as is.

Yelp
Was in Carmel for a wedding and we had a brunch meal at Lucia the day after for post-celebration eats! Overall a good brunch. We had a good assortment of mimosas and drinks. I wasn't too hungry and just opted for a classic caesar salad with chicken. Salad was quite good. Should have asked to have the dressing on the side or have half the amount since it was a bit saucy. Anchovy flavor was really good! Unfortunately, the chicken was a bit on the sad side :/ but overall good salad. We also had a few blackened shrimp salads to share, and a few orders of fries. Desserts were ordered as well. I personally didn't eat any, but those who did thoroughly enjoyed it. Another downside, the bathrooms were super far...like 5 min walk across the premises. I believe there were only two available, so there could likely be a wait. Not completely sure if the bathrooms at the restaurant were out of order that day or not. Overall, good meal and good vibes! They had bocce ball on available which was fun to play a few rounds. Follow the adventure @shoyuthebest on IG!

Yelp
Took a weekend trip to relax and enjoy myself with some friends - we visited Lucia with a reservation after some spa time and were told to wait at the stand to be served. Several waitresses/waiters walked by and saw us, but did not greet or offer to help. Although I saw the waitress creating conversations with other tables, we did not have the same experience after we were seated. We were not even informed about the special of the day until we overheard from another table discussing about it and had to ask another server what it was. Overall, while the food was great and very delicious, the service was subpar. I had hoped that every guest would be treated equally at such a high quality and top-rated restaurant.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my birthday for a light brunch. It was our first time in Carmel Valley and on this place. The restaurant offers a casual Al fresco dining on weekend especially brunch. Staff are friendly and takes care of their guest well. I have enjoyed our lunch everything taste great and.i love the chocolate mouse cake with honeycomb . One of the best lunch place I'd ever had. We were also able to explore the ground of this property . The walk in the well manicured garden is relaxing . Will try to stay here next time.

Yelp
Breakfast and dinner simply amazing. Outstanding menu, everything was prepared perfectly, delicious food, and impeccable service. The indoor fireplace at night is wonderful and the outdoor heated patio for breakfast was beautiful. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
3.5 stars from us. Service was very good and the ambiance very nice. We started with crab cake with was $24 for one. The cake was good with ample amounts of crab. Hubby ordered the beet salad. My entree fish was cooked just right and ample amounts of veggies. Hubby really enjoyed his moist, tender pork chop. He thought the meal was better than the one we had at another restaurant the day prior. We shared a delicious chocolate dessert. If I wasn't already full, I would have ordered another. They ended the meal with 2 comped fruit jelly squares.

Ray I.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant for dinner the service was five-star and the food was exquisite! I ordered the lamb chops, Caesar salad and chocolate decadence dessert. Everything was wonderful. The cocktail was a Valley Old Fashioned and it was delicious. Great ambiance. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area!

Yelp
Perfect venue for family union; celebrating 2 birthdays and work promotion. Great menu choices. Today, prawns and pizza were not available from the menu but still had plenty of great choices. Everyone (17 of us) still had plenty to choose from the menu. Burgers, chicken sandwich, salmon, oysters, ceasar salad, beet salad, crab cakes, scallops w polenta, angus filet steak, rancheros, eggs benedict and plenty more. All were perfectly prepared and delicious. Cocktail choices were plentiful and exotic. What made it more fun and memorable was the service we received from Chris and crew. We were spoiled w his friendliness and attentive to our needs. He was also willing to be our personal photographer and videographer throughout the night. He was always willing and professional. I think that might be his second profession on the side. He caught our candid emotions celebrating the festivities w our family. Thank you Chris for going beyond your normal duties to make sure the family received a long lasting and memorable dining experience. Looking forward to coming back for our next visit and celebrating another memorable family experience.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice but food is really ok. Ate here twice during hotel stay, dinner and breakfast the next day. $65 steak was rare and burnt at the same time. Asked them to cook if more, ended up entirely burnt. Mentioned it to the server and he tried to say that's just how it's cooked. Lol ok. We were hungry and this was the only restaurant for miles so we ate the cancerous burnt steak. What can you do. The vegetarian ragout was very strange. Both items were such small portions. They really pushed appetizers and sides and desserts on you probably because they knew the small portions. For breakfast we tried eggs Benedict (very average), French toast (small and average tasting too) and the huevos rancheros which was both amazing in terms of presentation and taste. But one out of 5 entrees being something I'd order again isn't great. Also $9 for orange juice. Lol.

Hiral M.

Yelp
Had such an interesting drink at the bar! The harvest punch was very well balanced. The service was excellent.

Yelp
Fresh market: Tuna and baby potato's Drink: strawberry mocktail Beautiful elegant restaurant inside a resort/lodge. You will find parking on the right or left of the building. Restaurant is located inside with a beautiful outdoor sitting with heaters and the amazing view of the mountains. Food was delicious and the BREAD is a must have! I literally order that 3 times haha.

Yelp
Don't laugh... but I fell in love with their heirloom tomatoes. I ordered potatoes with bell peppers, pico de Gallo, and cheese on top. Order two over medium eggs and a few slices of heirloom tomatoes. O-M-G. I know they grow the tomatoes on site, but people - can I get some soil, compost, and seeds to grow my own?! I know, I know .... you did not read my review to hear me gush over some heirloom tomatoes. I get it. But I fell in love with the sweetness and texture. It was absolutely delicious. Do not think the rest of the food wasn't amazing. It was. The mimosas were perfection. They did not skimp on the champagne. It was nice quality champagne with fresh squeezed orange juice. The potatoes were seared perfectly. Wonderful texture. Perfect portion. Truly an amazing meal. Caramel is beautiful. And; to be able to experience this meal right next to a fireplace was truly a top-notch experience.

Yelp
Lucia is located in the upscale and beautiful Bernardus Resort and Vinyard. Wonderful atmosphere with its outdoor covered dining. Excellent, attentive service. One star off: The strip steak was much better the last time I was here. I ordered it again on this visit. One of my guests ordered the tenderloin. I believe they have switched to grass-fed beef for the steaks on their menu. They were inferior to my last visit about two years ago. The steaks were not prime nor American Wagyu grade, so they were not as flavorful. I find most grass-fed beef is bland, and tougher muscle fibers tend to run through the steak. I'm not a fan of grass-fed beef. Except for the flavorless and lack of texture sauteed artichoke heart appetizer, the other dishes: the seared salmon, the pork belly appetizer, the side dishes, and the salads were excellent. Note that you have to call Lucia to get a reservation. They do not use any of the online reservation services. In conclusion, there are hit-and-miss menu items. The atmosphere and service are wonderful. I enjoy this restaurant as I live in the area and have been here a number of times. Perhaps next time I'll find there will have been improvements in the meat department. ;)

Yelp
I showed up 15 mins late to my reservation . They were super kind about it . The ambiance and kind waiters make this place a must dine in Carmel Valley . Luis was kind and went above and beyond to make this one of the best dinning experience I have had in the valley . I ordered the crab cake , Cesar salad and the Wagyu . All excellent . Highly recommend !

Yelp
Lucia is the most beautiful place in Carmel Went to dinner and the food with its new summer additions were a nice surprise. . Love the Swank Farm tomatoes!!! The staff is the best it's ever been Colleen has done an exceptional job A Must to try
google avatar

Yelp
In this classy, comfortable, yet somewhat understated venue, the California cuisine fits the overall great ambiance of the Bernardus resort. The menu is not extensive but there is plenty choose from, and whatever your choice, expect the dish to be very well prepared. The wait staff is knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating. The wine list is extensive but you can't go wrong with the local Bernardus wine. Prices are quite fair for the level of the cuisine, the service, and the overall ambiance. With relatively few choices in the Carmel Valley, this place truly shines. If possible, stay at the outstanding Bernardus resort and enjoy everything it has to offer while enjoying the great food at Lucia.

Yelp
Came here for dinner even though I wasn't staying at the resort. The food we got was delicious. Their bread was amazing and warm. The beet salad was a stand out dish for me. It had very fresh and crisp vegetables. Besides that, the ravioli was also amazing. The service at the restaurant was also really good. All the waiters and waitresses were attentive and nice.

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinner here. We had : delicious whole grain bread, garlic fries, Harvest Ragout, campfire dessert & chocolate chip cookies. Everything tasted great & the service was impeccable.

Yelp
5*s all the way. Service was amazing as was the food. We had both breakfast and dinner there during our stay. Highly recommend the burrata and strawberry salad as well as the scallops. Can't wait to go back and try the tasting menu!

Yelp
We ate inside the restaurant (not at the bar) for dinner during our stay at the resort over Presidents Day weekend. The service at the resort is fantastic, but Lucia is really not up to par with the rest of the resort. We were seated by the hostess and had water served immediately. Then nobody talked to us for 25 minutes. We were leaning out of our booth trying to get someone's attention but nobody was stopping to check. Finally we got a hold of one of the servers, who apologized and took our entire order. Our actual waitress then came over and sheepishly said sorry about the wait. She had no idea we had already ordered everything. Then the food came. I had the ravioli, 8 tiny little raviolis filled with mushroom for $38! The cream sauce was watery and overall tasteless for something that was supposed to have black truffle in it. My fiancée had the salmon, which came out partially raw in the middle even though she requested medium. Overall the experience was disappointing (especially for a $160 check) and not up to the level of quality of the rest of the resort. We'll be back to the resort, but definitely not dining at Lucia's!

Yelp
While certainly not "terrible"- it was remarkably average for the very steep price tag. The service was simply 'OK.' They were under-staffed and while you'd expect this in a fast-casual atmosphere, this is billed as fine dining. It was a party of four. TBH, everyone thought that the food was "good" but lacked in creativity. Nothing really exciting. In fact, I'd say the menu was over-priced and boring. It just felt like they were an over-priced restaurant in a beautiful location where the food was more of an after-thought. I had the scallops special. Again, it was alright but nothing to rave about. And I left hungry, which should never really happen at any restaurant. While the wine list is extensive, it's very conservative/boring, with very few adventurous selections. If you're using your corporate account and/or you simply don't care about the cost, then go for it. The location is stunning. But the restaurant itself has a long way to go before you could view it anywhere close to the best in the Peninsula.

Yelp
I had the Caesar salad and the lettuce was brown. For any price that is inexcusable. Service was bad

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in the valley. We've been for lunch and dinner and they never disappoint. The staff is always friendly and the service is great. They have seasonal menus so the food is always fresh. This is a great spot for a date night or night out with friends.

Yelp
Wonderful hidden gem outside of Carmel-by-the-Sea - I typically don't view hotel restaurants in a positive light but we loved the cozy atmosphere and wonderful, Californian-style food! Came here with a Friday night reservation and had a wonderful time. Venue / Service: due to CV19, all seats were outdoors. However, given how cold it was outside, they had put up plastic awnings to prevent the wind from blowing for the most part, and put heat lamps by each table. We also sat next to the fire pit, which was very helpful as I tend to get cold very easily. The overall effect was a cozy, still romantic vibe outside. Waiters were very quick and prompt in providing recommendations for dishes, and updating us on when drinks / dishes would come out if we've been waiting (without us asking). Overall, I felt the staff were pretty professional. Food: Chef Cal Stamenov's focus is Californian cuisine, highlighting the regional bounty and quite frankly was comparable to most Michelin star restaurants I would find in SF. We were able to share all dishes comfortably, though be mindful of the big meat dishes if ordering individually. -- Grilled Pear Salad (~$16) - loved the pomegranate seeds and vinaigrette, which made the dish very light and refreshing, but the most interesting aspect was the combo of a grilled pear with melted gorgonzola cheese. I'm not the biggest fan of this cheese and when I ate it, my biased mind continued to tell me it was a bit weird, but I have to admit it was one of the most interesting combinations I've tried. -- Butternut Squash Soup (~$16) - soup was perfect for the cold temperatures outside! There was a bit of spiciness but the creme fraiche helped to cool it down. The pumpkin seeds were a great crunchy element to the soup - my boyfriend and I proceeded to devour this (and he typically doesn't drink soup). -- 14 oz prime ribeye (~$65) - mind you, this is 14 oz. of ribeye WITHOUT the bone; this was a lot of food given everything else we ordered. Even so, it was well cooked and perfect medium rare as we requested! Well seasoned and the sauce added more richness to the steak. This is a big meal so I would recommend sharing this with others. -- Diver Scallops (~$38) - well cooked and somehow paired well with the mushrooms. The green sauce added enough brightness to counter against the buttery sauce. In total, food was good, service was prompt, and we enjoyed the venue despite being outside. Wish it could be located close to SF so we can enjoy it more!

Yelp
Beautiful decor indoors and outdoors. Dog friendly. Great service and friendly staff. Food was delicious and wine was delicious. Great place to take a significant other for a special occasion or to celebrate milestone moments.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant after it made national news. It was almost a 2 hour drive so I was really stoked to give it a try. Overall, the food was tasty, but other than the crab cake, I don't think anything is going "wow" you. I liked that the ham on the eggs Benedict came from a local farm, and that the fries were also crisp to perfection. Unfortunately, you'll be paying a $$$ price for these standard dishes... Since they only had outdoor seating, there were a ton of bees that kept coming to our table, which became pretty annoying the longer we sat down. Once the food was brought out, the bees were able to feast on our food. Would recommend if you're in the area, but it's probably not worth the 2 hour drive, and you can probably find better food for a cheaper price.

Yelp
Came here to eat last night. Got sat right away, restaurant wasn't too busy for a Sunday night. Service was quick and food was enjoyable. We had the crab cake, greens salad, winter pizza appetizer. My girlfriend had the halibut and I had the Wagyu ribeye. The crab cake was delicious , pretty typical with aioli and some greens and the mixed green salad was decent too. The winter pizza is a duck, olive and arugula pizza which I'm was a fan if because I'm quite fond of duck. Both entrees were delicious and perfectly cooked. The halibut did take awhile , I think the server may have forgotten but when we asked about it they were very nice about it came out quickly afterward. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

Yelp
We aren't frequent guests to Bernardus, but we've always been huge fans of Marinus and have eaten there on a couple of occasions. We found the food inspired, hyper-local/seasonal, and delicious. To sum it up, Lucia is none of these things - it's the kind of standard fare you'd find in any upscale-ish hotel/spa, which I suppose somewhat makes sense, but was such a huge disappointment. I can only hope that the lack of creativity and inspiration are temporary and in response to COVID-19 because while the resort it is great, the primary draw for us has always been Cal's tasting menu. If you're into tuna tartare, caesar salad, grilled chicken breast, filet mignon, etc, this is the spot for you. If you want creativity, check out Aubergine instead.

Yelp
Had breakfast 3 times and dinner once during a stay at Bernardus. The 5 star is for breakfast. I love breakfast. i love going out to breakfast. I love having breakfast for breakfast and breakfast for dinner. Ok, now that we've established that ... the breakfast option is INCREDIBLE. The oatmeal is generous and the fixin' are yummy. Fresh, plump, sweet blueberries...in Nov! I don't know how. Brown sugar is light (vs the packed, clustered type of brown sugar some places try to serve). Cream for the coffee was a nice decadent touch to help cool the hot oatmeal and add a bit of richness. There were also golden, plump raisins, which are sweeter than currants and slivered almonds. YUM The tomato tartine is a MUST order if you like hearty toast, beautiful heirloom tomatoes (red, yellow), arugula, thick sliced bacon and a perfect over easy egg. The gooey, runny yolk as you cut into the egg made each bite memorable as you created you combo bite of just the right amount of tomato, arugula, toast and bacon (just the right crispness and saltiness). Seriously, the best tartine I've had. I still think about it and would definitely go back even if I'm not staying at the lodge just for this breakfast. The apple fritter is a must. Crispy, full of apple chunks. Not too doughy or bready, like some donuts. It's a splurge/treat, so split it with the family. the granola yogurt parafait is also really nicely done. the berries fresh and sweet on their own. the granola has all the good crunchiness and variety, oats, nuts, dried fruits, etc. The yogurt was mild, not too tangy or tart, but not cloyingly sweet (so no weird aftertaste). Loved it for the lighter days Dinner was nice, but more high end then I was looking for. It's not a knock, as if you are looking for high end, elegant type of meal, i think this place would deliver.

Yelp
We spent a weekend in Carmel and were super excited to stay at Bernardus Lodge. First impression was great, and loved being greeted with wine upon check in. For dinner, we decided to stay on-site and check out Lucia. So glad we did! I had the white truffle mushroom risotto and it was amazing! I cleaned my plate. Also had the Bernardus Estate Rose and it was the perfect pairing. Very gluten free friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Over priced, really mediocre food and totally disorganized staff. I've had better food at a dive bar. The valet Miguel and our server Josh were great but the other staff (including the manager PJ) were lost, confused and allowed their frustrations to be evident to the client. Really poor all around.

Yelp
Ripped off on Bernardus' Sauvignon Blanc. $20 in the grocery store, usually $36 at the same restaurant. I left two stars because the Huevos Rancheros was great. I did attempt to get this justified and was blown off completely.
