"Chef Joseph Richardson and partner Lara Hooper are the hands-on owners of this cozy nook, a hidden gem serving standout comfort food with Creole and Southern accents. Lucilla’s packs in so many winning dishes diners find it hard to choose. Still, favorites include the fried oysters with a Big Easy-style cocktail sauce and champagne mignonette, pimento cheese fritters, grouper St. Charles with ribbons of crisp, sweet potatoes, and blackened chicken pasta. Add its thoughtful wine list, homemade desserts (the salted butterscotch pots de creme is a delight), its warm, welcoming atmosphere, and no doubt Lucilla’s is a keeper." - Rochelle Ward

Google
I discovered Lucilla while traveling through Tallahassee and really enjoyed the experience. The food was well prepared, with great attention to flavor and presentation. Their wine selection was especially impressive and paired nicely with the meal. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, and the service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a solid dining experience—I’d definitely come back.

Google
My family and I went here for my graduation dinner and I am so glad we did!! The food here has both amazing presentation and taste! And the service was great, they were very attentive and congratulatory about my graduation. We had such an amazing experience here and I would gladly recommend this place for a fancier, intimate dinner with family and friends! Next time I hope to try the pork chops, because they were out on the day we came. We tried their filet mignon, chicken, cheesecake, and shrimp and grits. I can’t remember what the same of the last pasta dish we had was, but it was good!

Google
We were very much looking forward to a visit to Lucilla based on the reviews, photos, and menu and recently had that opportunity while celebrating a special birthday. Unfortunately, for us the food was a major disappointment. The presentation was nice, service pretty good, but three of the four dishes were terribly underseasoned. Everything from the protein, potatoes, and veggies all lacked seasoning. For the price point, flavor should be on point. Unfortunately, I do not recommend. Also, virtually no options for children if that's important to you.

Google
Dinner is always wonderful! The grouper with the key lime sauce is so yummy. The oyster appetizer is also very good. The chef sent us an extra order because the first one came out cooked a little too long. We also had the crème brûlée for dessert and it was phenomenal! The restaurant is small so I would recommend making a reservation,

Google
We had a lovely dinner at Lucilla’s. The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. We had 3 seafood dishes and everything was delicious, beautifully presented. Service was attentive. Highly recommend.

Google
Wonderful establishment. Food was top notch, i had the St Charles as the entree and the brioche bread pudding. Charlotte was my server and was very affable and super attentive, which I appreciated. Would definitely come again if visiting Tallahassee

Google
I ordered the St. Charles Grouper Plate. It had a nice presentation, but i had to add a lot of salt and pepper to make it palatable. The pecans were bland as well. The staff seemed "standoffish" or unfriendly (not rude - just very bland like the food) and not happy to be serving us. Food came out slow for the crowd. For the price.. I was very disappointed. Get an order of the fried oysters and a beer and call it a win!

Google
Excellent food, service, atmosphere and all together experience every time. Chef Joe is a legend and his art & vision shine through his team, flavors & presentation. Not enough stars in the sky to give for this recommendation!

Yelp
My friend and I had a nice Thursday night dinner here. Lucilla doesn't look like much from the outside, but it has a nice ambiance inside. Our server was attentive and super friendly. We ordered the pimento cheese fritters for an appetizer and those were very yummy. For our entrees, I got the mushroom and eggplant pasta and my friend got the bronzed grouper. The grouper was better than the pasta in my opinion. We got the pineapple pound cake for dessert, which was definitely sweet and dense. You could taste that butter! I'd like to go back to try one of their wine pairing dinners!

Yelp
Went to Lucilla on Christmas Eve and it was so great! Nice place, great service and really good food! We started with pimento cheese fritters with bourbon peach glaze. Very good! We all had fish, 2 of us the grouper, 1 blackened mahi, and 1 miso salmon. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted outstanding! We had the lemon crème brûlée which was very good, but the toffee white chocolate brownie with the salted caramel sauce whipped cream was the star of the dessert show! We also saw a local celebrity there! They only have beer and wine, but we had a delicious grapefruit wine spritzer. Would definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
This is my go to Tallahassee fine dining restaurant for a truly unique experience. The location is nothing to write home about, but once inside the New Orleans style chef makes you forget all about that. It's southern comfort gourmet!

Elizabeth V.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in all of Tallahassee. Delish food and attentive service every time. And their chocolate pot and citrus inspired crème brûlées are worth every calorie!

Laurie K.

Yelp
At the risk of not being able to get a reservation the next time we want to dine here, I have to say the food was excellent! The oysters were fresh and lightly breaded, the cavatelli with eggplant and mushrooms was perfectly spicy, the snapper with mashed potatoes Let all the flavor shine, but my husband thought could use a little more spice. Jessica was a wonderful server. We will be back soon.

Cara P.

Yelp
We came to visit a local university and saw the reviews for Lucilla...based on the 5 stars we had to stop by. This is a small and quaint restaurant with super friendly servers. The menu is small and straight to the point. We ordered the bread for two, crab cakes, shrimp/grits, along with the miso salmon. All were presented beautifully and tasted amazing! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner tonight. The waitress was great. Our meal was on point. And the salted caramel pots de creme was to die for... I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Maria A.

Yelp
Delicious food. Very good service. A good selection of wines. Quiet. Have been there a few times and the quality is always consistent.

Naomi H.

Yelp
Food is amazingly delicious. Reservations encouraged. I chose the filet which melted in my mouth. Highly recommend.

Linda E.

Yelp
Food is O.K. It's a good location especially for the legislature crowd during session. The service was adequate. The ambiance needs some work as does their wine list. Won't be returning.

Billy H.

Yelp
We had the filet, Grouper, & Green hills chicken. Warm goat cheese salad, iceberg wedge, an ceasar salad. All were awesome. Highly recommend the pimento cheese fritters an bread service. They do not mix cocktails. Wine and beer only. Looks like an old crappy pizza hut on the outside but inside is cool.

Sue L.

Yelp
I judge restaurants by how long I remember them. This one has stuck with me since December. The food was well-prepared and delicious, the service attentive, and the atmosphere welcoming. You can't go wrong here.

Kether S.

Yelp
Pimiento Cheese Fritters Food was good, however I wasn't a fan of either of the desserts. I didn't like the pumpkin pie crème brûlée at all, but the bread pudding was alright. Took my fiancé here for his birthday and we had a reservation but when we got there is was super loud inside I guess because they were full and it's a small space so I asked if we could sit outside thankfully there were tables available cause it was so loud I'd probably have to yell across the table to be heard. My steak was a little undercooked but still good. Pretty expensive for portion size but that's any fancy spot in Tallahassee.

Alison M.

Yelp
This excellent restaurant's outer appearance has nothing to do with the inner decor, wonderful food and great service. Lucilla is a must do on the Tallahassee dining out scene. The wine selection is short enough to discuss but long enough to fit every dish and preference. They offer some cocktails and they are fun & unique. The food is always presented beautifully, explained well and yummy. We get every time the pimento cheese balls-so GOOD. However we've tried everything and they are all excellent. Entree wise the St Charles grouper is a very filling portion and uniquely presented. The offerings are mostly fish, seafood or chicken; however they are all so good you won't miss the steak as a choice. The wedge salad like everything else has a little twist - not plain Jane. If you've never been GO and for the rest of us remember it's so worth the extra 10 minute drive. PS they take reservations which I personally love !

Kara P.

Yelp
I have never been to Lucilla, although I've heard great things over the years. My party of 6 was sat promptly on a Friday night after making a reservation. I would encourage to email for a reservation, trying to get someone over the phone was a bit tricky. The food and service was stellar. The atmosphere was quaint. Depending on where you sit you can look directly into the kitchen. That may not be for everyone, so just FYI. I had the grouper and it was soooo good! The mashed potatoes were among the best I've ever had. I didn't love the pecans on the dish. But overall very enjoyable. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. My husband had the salmon, I think he felt it was overpriced for what it was. But this is a fine dining restaurant. My gf had a pasta dish which I think I liked. I also always appreciate a good warm bread basket. Our waitress was attentive and delightful. I'm still sticking to knocking off a star for maskless/gloveless wait staff.

Wendy M.

Yelp
The food was so salty the last time went, I had to send it back. Nice ambience but don't salt food so much!

Rudy G.

Yelp
One of Floridas best restaurants! Chef owner Joseph always goes out of his way to please. The kids love this place so much that they've even made cookies for the Chef. If you love really good food with impeccable service don't miss this hidden GEM.

Kelly C.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service! Our favorite restaurant for fine dining comfort food in Tallahassee with a great chill ambiance, killer music, great mood lighting, and a solid menu. My son loves the adorable salt and pepper shakers and the pimento cheese fritters and, of course, now asks for Crème Brûlée all the time. The wonderful chef is always accommodating vegan dishes and my wife is partial to the filet. Fantastic wine and beer selection. I've enjoyed my last 4 birthdays here, but always look for any excuse to go. These cats deserve all the accolades and cheers to more great meals!

Mary R.

Yelp
The food was delicious, but I called the night before to make reservations there was an answering machine I left a message asking for reservations and never heard back so I assumed we were reserved. We arrived at the restaurant and no reservations we were put in the patio which was okay but not great. I think that if you run a restaurant you should listen to your messages and not inconvenience your patrons.

Michael M.

Yelp
Please update your website. I arrived 20 min early (not your fault) and the restaurant is closed!!

David T.

Yelp
I just wrote a review for Lucilla but I mistakenly applied the review to Yelp. Hopefully they will reapply it to Lucille. No time to rewrite but suffice it to say we loved it and will go again as often as possible. Great for a nice date night. One of the very best meals I've had in Tallahassee.

Tonia M.

Yelp
Don't let the exterior appearance or location of the place deter you, once inside you'll realize you are in a special place. The service was excellent and food was amazing. We had the oysters, crab cakes, vinegar chicken and Grouper St. Charles, all were beautifully presented and delicious. Go, you won't be disappointed!

Carol K.

Yelp
Went there with a friend, it's well appointed with cute sconces and well spaced tables so we didn't feel crowded in. We started with their oyster appetizer recommended by our server Joseph, who was fun and efficient. They were the best oysters I've ever had. I absolutely will go back and order them as an entrée with a salad. Wow, they were better than perfect. I ordered their Vinegar Chicken with collards and mashed potatoes. It had mushrooms and tomatoes, mixed in with the sauce, they were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were so highly whipped, that they were featherlight and absolutely delicious. I thought the collards were good, too mush but they had stems that were slightly firm and plenty of bacon to give them flavor. No complaints but I wouldn't order them again simply because I have other things I prefer. The vinegar chicken was outstanding, the only negative was when they say vinegar, they mean vinegar. I expected a gravy that had a vinegar note, not an overwhelming vinegar flavor. That said, I enjoyed the chicken very much and used the sauce sparingly. Leftovers ate well the next day. My friend ordered the Bradley's pork chop with grits and collards. The pork chop was beyond huge, she loved the grits and collards. The plating of the meals was beautiful, service was outstanding, the interior could use some warming up. Location is interesting because it's clearly not a high rent area but it's easy to get to and easy to park. That's a huge plus! Signage could be better. Bottom line is it's excellent gourmet food with medium/high prices, I will be back because it was excellent, if they elevated the atmosphere somewhat it would match the quality of the food. Definitely a great find!

Jess L.

Yelp
Perfect spot for a nice dinner. The food is delicious, fresh ingredients, great menu options. The restaurant is cozy and perfect for a date night, special occasion or just ordinary night when you want delicious food. The staff is very friendly from the moment you walk in and genuinely seem to want to make sure you have a great experience. Everything I've had here has been delicious, but I haven't been able to stop thinking the brussels sprouts with smoky tomato broth and feta. Amazing! Mom's Vinegar Chicken is a must try as well!

Ty H.

Yelp
Showed up at 8:00PM... even though they advertise they're open until 9:30PM... they turned us away because they like to close early on Sunday. If you want to close early... don't advertise that you're open until 9:30PM... My wife and I drove across town specifically to try this restaurant. After this... I doubt we'll do it again.

Holly T.

Yelp
Yum! My mouth still sings when I think of our meals here. Our dinner started with a basket of warm bread. I ordered the Shrimp, Scallops, and Grits which was served in a rather large bowl with a spoon. I knew immediately that the generous portion was more than I could comfortably consume so I requested a container and set aside a full half portion, which was enough for lunch for two the next day. My husband ordered the Green Hill Chicken with sautéed spinach, and mashed potatoes. Another winner. Everything here was 5 stars and we enjoyed a more sophisticated dining experience than most restaurants offer.

Jerry W.

Yelp
The food is truly amazing! well worth the money and I can see why they are fully booked anytime they are open. The service is great, and it is a full experience. The lights are on the dimmer side for ambiance and it's a great place for a date night!

T W.

Yelp
The food was excellent. I would recommend this for a special occasion or just for two. The ambiance was nice and relaxing. The lights are low. Dessert was to die for. Definitely going back soon!

Jasmin B.

Yelp
This place is small but has a private atmosphere to it, great for anniversaries or a special date! That's what me and my man's did for our anniversary. The bread with butter was so good but everything else was somehow even better. I had never tried food so unique. I forgot the exact name of what I got but it was chicken in a vinegar sauce. The presentation was nice too. Great service too, special night to remember. Loved it and will go there again.

Thomas F.

Yelp
I seen a review where the chef was criticized for asking someone to leave for approaching a guest about wanting their table. I appreciate that the chef took care of his guests. So I wanted to give him some business for doing the tough work. Probably wouldn't have gone here otherwise as it's just not my kind/style of food, but if you enjoy this style they're going to knock it out of the park for you!

Ronnie N.

Yelp
The food and the service was impeccable! Our Server David was Professional, prompt and didn't skip a beat. We arrived with a large party and we're greeted with a smile and water without asking. He educated us on the specials and knew every last detail about the menu, the ingredients and asked if any if us had food allergies , which was comforting. The food quality is extremely high and the prices are more than reasonable , especially during these times of drastic inflation. I recommend this fine dining establishment to everyone and highly recommend asking for David.

Adrian S.

Yelp
"Get the f**k out of here". That is what the chef told me after we had been waiting for half an hour for a table that had cashed out and I reapectfully asked the party whose table we were waiting on if they were planning to stay much longer. To be fair we may have been ten minutes late for our reservation (I had 8 minutes). The hostess did not tell us that she had given our table to someone else when we arrived, only that the table had been cashed out and we were just waiting for the party to leave. She did offer to buy us drinks so that was nice. Anyway, I have never been talked to at a restaurant like this in my life so guess i wont be trying their food EVER.

Raina F.

Yelp
Excellent experience. Pleasant staff. (Even when I spilt my drink). We began the meal with the pimento cheese fritters based on recommendations. The peach glaze was a great addition and they felt light, not heavy. We appreciated that the wine/beer list included unique choice. The warm goat cheese and wedge salads were good as well. We enjoyed our main dishes. We strongly recommend the butterscotch pots de creme! The brownie was also good.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
this establishment has easily become my favorite in Tallahassee for many reasons! First time coming I had the shrimp and grits and it is by far the BEST in town. Bold statement folks I know. I've had shrimp and grits from all over Nola and surrounding parish's and this one is very close to being better than authentic New Orleans style. Also, holy crap y'all make the best filet!! With the most perfect mashed taters and asparagus I've ever had. If I could eat out 5x a week this is where I would go. Amazing ambience, very sweet wait staff (I got sang two twice by different team members on my bday) and they really know how to make a girl feel special. Can't wait for another family birthday so we can make an excuse to dine here.

Joe L.

Yelp
We actually turned around in the parking when looking for this place; it is THAT inconspicuous. We stopped in w no reservations and were lucky to be seated right away. The decor is not the star of the show, nor is it a liability. The service was great (Anna our server was efficient and friendly, with a thorough knowledge of the menu. We started with the Pimento Cheese fritters which came out quickly. Excellent texture and taste. Could easily accomodate 4 people. The boss had the vegetable pasta dish after hearing the next table over rave about it; it did not disappoint (also a very large portion). I had the blackened grouper with crawfish risotto, spinach, and a key lime beurre blanc. Tonight was grouper, but Anna said that the fish is essentially the "fresh catch" so may change day to day. Cooked perfectly. Eveything worked well together. Too uch spinach for me but tat was easily remedied. Two glasses of wine brought the total to just under a C-Note which is a fair value. Great little find (through Yelp); we will be back.

Rowena C.

Yelp
Wonderful find. Excellent presentation of our dinner; wine was just the right pairing. Warm, professional service. This restaurant should be on your list for superb dining, for special occasions, and for each time you want a welcoming place that treats you with great service and great food.

Marie S.

Yelp
Food was delicious!!!!!!! I am a pescatarian and I had plenty of options to choose from. We went with the crab cakes and the fried oysters for the starter. Next week had the Grouper and the Salmon. I could eat the sweet potato strips as a daily snack!!!! For dessert, we had the croissant bread pudding and pepita pound cake. (Side note, they added a candle because it was my friend's birthday ) I will go again!

Rachel S.

Yelp
The meals are actually better than they look. Nothing is missed at this completely underrated restaurant! Prices are spot on. The last bit of my dish was just as flavorful as the first. Highly recommend bringing an appetite - you'll definitely want to try the desserts!

Amie A.

Yelp
Great local food in Tallahassee, had a party of 6 and everyone was happy. Great service, good wine list. We have eaten here 3 different times now, it's a very nice LOCAL restaurant. (only minor thing is the lights are too bright, we asked to move to a different table.) I recommend it to other FSU families looking for good restaurants and everyone who tries it seems to enjoy their meal:)

The R.

Yelp
Excellent food. Service was a little off from the previous visits. I didn't see the owner on site like we usually do.

Audrey M.

Yelp
I loved Lucilla! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and helpful and the environment was cozy. Everything was delicious but the bread just hit the SPOT. It was delightfully warm and crisp.

Bianca R.

Yelp
The best meal I have had in a good while. Wow! Compliments to the chef and all the supporting staff. We absolutely loved our waitress. We were a large party but she got all of our orders by memory and got it all right too! The food was delicious everyone was raving I had the crab cakes and a side of mashed potato. PLEASE SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. Holy cow I could've licked the lemon crème brûlée cup clean if I wasn't so full. Thank you again for a wonderful meal.

B M.

Yelp
Delicious meal and wonderful service. Ambience was very romantic. Strongly recommend this restaurant.

Ritz I.

Yelp
Celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. Every single thing was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Phenomenal restaurant w super sweet service. A true gem. I've asked my husband if we can come back ASAP. Pimento Cheese Fritters Grouper St Charles (whipped potatoes, crab meat pecans, lemon butter sauce, and sweet potato ribbons. Filet Mignon Medallions (whipped potatoes, Roasted Brussels, and asparagus. Key Lime Creme Brûlée

Ashley J.

Yelp
Finally made it to Lucilla with my hubby on a special date night, and it was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Hubby had chicken, which was very good, but he preferred my salmon. It was cooked perfectly, with plenty of flavor, and wasn't fishy. The pot de creme was much more than expected! We saved some and ate it the following night with hot tea--so good! I'm sensitive to sensory input, so here are some details: TVs: none Music: good selection and down low enough to talk easily Lights: nice ambiance with cute lamps on the table that face down (no glare in the eyes) Smells: only good food Atmosphere: cozy Other: Price: a bit high but worth it for a special occasion Service: attentive (and masked)

Dave O.

Yelp
This used to be one of the best restaurants in town. Now they nickel and dime you and are decreasing portions over and over again which means we find a new place. First they increased the corkage fee from $10 to $20 and now charge a cake cutting fee of $20 and bread used to be included but now $10 for a table of 4. Other fees they didn't divulge until the bill comes. Chef you have lost us. Many better choices that don't nickle and dime you.

Boon C.

Yelp
This restaurant is at the east side of downtown Tallahassee. I got this restaurant through Yelper recommendation from Yelp site. They have interesting menu that you can enjoy. The portion of the food is great. It is plenty for one person. We started with Pimiento Cheese Fritters. It come with 5 pieces. It serve over bourbon peach glaze. The cheese fill has a smooth taste with the crispy crust outside. It is very good. Our entrée are the Snapper St. Charles. And Seared Scottish Salmon. My friend like her dish with the salmon. The snapper pan seared with skin on. This is typical southern way to do it. It was accompanied with whip potatoes smash. The best part is the crab meat sautéed with pecan that surround with the potatoes. The snapper then top with the lemon sauce and pile up with sweet potatoes ribbon. The sweet potatoes was thin cut and fried. It create the beautiful decorations. Service can be a bit fast. Kitchen is slow. But I don't mind if they provide a good dish.

Mei-Sa Y.

Yelp
Ate here three nights in a row during a September business trip, and would have happily continued the practice, if my stay was extended. Consider myself fortunate to have found this restaurant (thank you, Yelpers) in a neighborhood of seemingly non-remarkable establishments. In short: Simple, pleasant decor with apparent attention to detail. Friendly, attentive staff. Consistently high-quality food, creatively presented. I particularly enjoyed the three starters that I tried: roasted tomato bisque, the wedge and Lucilla salad. Know that entrée portion sizes are generous. Consider saving room for dessert and try the sticky toffee pudding. (Alas, that pudding past was so consuming that I forgot to take a photo.) Although newly opened in January, this business seems to have already cultivated an enthusiastic customer base. Highly recommended.

Stewart W.

Yelp
We're friends right? Can we talk dessert? I rarely encourage anyone to eat dessert first...especially at a nice restaurant! I'm afraid, however, that if you take a chance and don't order the Key lime creme brûlée first that something could happen...power outage, creme shortage, goose attack, etc. The dragon shrimp with noodles and arugula and a mystery sauce and the warm goat cheese salad with tomato, green beans, artichoke, pecans (I would have liked more pecans), and garlic vinaigrette were very good but the dessert was amazing! I had two quandaries during my visit: 1. Eat the bread warm when the brought it out or eat it with my salad...the salad lost! It is fresh baked on premises but I'm unclear if it is made on premises. 2. Shrimp vs. pimento cheese fritters. Shrimp won but I may have lost because I've been craving pimento cheese fritters and I'm not entirely sure what they are. If I dream about them it will be confirmation that I din not choose wisely.

Cindy L.

Yelp
This was an amazing find. The outside looks like Pizza Hut, but the inside is beautifully done. The grouper and oil chip dishes were so special. The chef truly thought it through. Very impressed!
