New Burger Restaurant With Asian Wagyu Burgers Opens in North Shoal Creek | Eater Austin

"Opened November 10 in North Shoal Creek, this fast-casual wagyu burger shop from the teams behind Lucky Robot and Zen focuses on Asian-inspired burgers and sandwiches developed by Lucky Robot executive chef Jay Huang. Standouts include the Tokyo BBQ—topped with cheddar, tempura onion rings, Japanese barbecue sauce, and miso-mustard—and a dedicated katsu sandwich section (including a wagyu katsu with panko-fried patties and tonkatsu ketchup). The wagyu patties are sourced from Peeler Farms in Floresville and the buns come from Swedish Hill bakery in Clarksville. Beyond beef, the menu offers chicken, vegetarian and vegan options (including Beyond Burger patties) plus sides like home fries and Asian slaw. Customers can dine in, use curbside pickup, place takeout orders online or in person, or get deliveries via Uber Eats; hours are 11:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 11:30 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Sunday." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
I ordered a hamburger and the Asian slaw for lunch today, which is listed on their menu price for $3.95 for the slaw. I got that because I didn't want fries. As you can see by the attached photo there was LESS than 1 cup of slaw in the container. Imagine the AUDACITY you have to have to charge anyone for a half a cup of cabbage with some vinaigrette on it. I will not be patronizing this restaurant again. There is no reason on earth why this should not have been free or came with the burger in the first place. Which by the way, was mid and tasted like any basic burger that would have come with an accompanying side for the price they are selling them at. Do better and stop taking advantage of your take out customers like this. I highly doubt that they would have gotten away with this if was in the restaurant and not using take out. Save your money and go someplace that isn't looking to take advantage of their customers like this.

Google
TLDR: pretty standard burger fare. Came here for a quick weekend lunch. Service and such were as to be expected, nothing remarkable, but everyone was polite and the food came out quickly. For the food, the burger itself was subpar. The meat was good, but was way to small for the bun and accoutrement. Either size up the patty, or size down everything else to balance out the burger. The fries are a bit different. they are long, thick twists. I didn't really notice any difference between them and regular steak fries, but they were good regardless of the novelty. Overall, the burger was so/so, and there are better options around Austin. 3/10

Google
Luck’s has be on my list for awhile now, glad I got to check it off. The burgers are juicy and fresh. Everything is delicious. Wagyu Burgers: Akuma Burger - 5/5 Sides: Sidewinder Home Fries - 5/5 I order a double akuma burger, and it was phenomenal. The patties were sooo juicy and flavorful. Super fresh and amazingly delicious. Sidewinder fries were really good too. Great seasoning and cooked perfectly.

Google
This is a neat concept - it's a pop-up wagyu burger menu at Zen. I had the Rising Sun Burger (fried egg +avocado) and it was delicious. The fries were also very tasty!

Google
Ordered the Beyond Burger.. Beyond pathetic, not to mention the $21 ridiculous price. Complete crap, first and last time I’ll ever order from here. Don’t make the same mistake and waste your money here!

Google
Restaurant consistently fails to prepare the food as their menu indicates. Missing toppings, condiments (These are supposed to be "Special"), and preparation issues plague this restaurant. Sadly these were delivery and no way to get them to correct their errors. Attention to details is a very important but actually preparing food according to your menu should be basic.

Google
I enjoyed this "burger speakeasy" inside ZEN. The concept is pure genius, and the execution is even better. I recently tried the Swagyu Cheeseburger, Chicken Katsu, sidewinder fries, and house-made Asian slaw, and the flavors blew me away. The Asian seasonings and sauces really take these dishes to the next level. The Swagyu burger was juicy and flavorful, and the chicken katsu was crispy and tender. The sidewinder fries were a fun twist on the classic, and the Asian slaw was the perfect refreshing accompaniment. The service was also excellent, with attentive and friendly staff who clearly take pride in their work. Good stuff! Check it out.

Google
We had the Beyond Burger. It's the best tasting plant based burger that I've ever had! The Asian coleslaw was really good as well. We've been back several times since they've opened and the food continues to get even better every time.

Yelp
Came here with my boyfriend for lunch and enjoyed our time! This burger spot is inside of zen Japanese food fast which is a small Japanese spot that also serves crepes. On their website they advertise this spot as a "burger speakeasy" so we were thinking it was going to be hidden inside the restaurant which it was not lol. Maybe we were silly to think that but it definitely threw me off when we got here and it was just a combined restaurant. The service here was fast and the food was great!

Yelp
Went to try their burgers, I judge every restaurant on their burgers. The burger is sufficiently unique that a direct comparison to a classic cheese burger would be unfair. It was a special sandwich on a bun with a burger patty, but a wonderful novel flavor. This burger stands alone and is highly recommended. Friendly folks interesting place. Give them a try.

Yelp
Burger is amazing! My fave would be the BTS. It's bacon, crispy cheddar, grilled onions and mushrooms, honey karashi mustard and tonkatsu ketchup. Don't skip on the sides, I love their tempura battered onion rings!

Yelp
This little Japanese restaurant sits on Anderson Road next to a Goodwill. A lot of people come here for the burgers, but they actually have a lot more to offer such as sushi. I have included photos of the menu to give you a better idea. As we see so often, if you pay with a credit card, you can expect them to flip the screen over in hopes of a tip. There's enough seating inside for at the very most 50 people and 18 outside. I came in at noon on a Thursday and it was surprisingly fairly empty. My order came out in about 10 minutes, but there was some confusion as to what I had, so not everything came out at once and my burger had no cheese. I was not impressed with the sidewinder fries and definitely recommend you skip those. They were not cut from real potatoes, they were clearly preformed and previously frozen out of a bag. The onion rings were a little better as they were lightly breaded and expectedly on the greasy side. The Burger was a decent size and the semi sweet sauce they use was a nice touch, but it still lacked the wow factor. Nonetheless, I'd be willing to come back in the future to try some of the other menu items. A good acceptable 3 and a half to four star place. Plenty of photos to fulfill your curiosity.

Yelp
Restaurant consistently fails to prepare the food as their menu indicates. Missing toppings, condiments (These are supposed to be "Special"), and preparation issues plague this restaurant. Sadly these were delivery and no way to get them to correct their errors. You should know better when one of their primary profile photos is of their restroom. Attention to details is a very important attribute.

Yelp
They completely messed up our order. We got the Tokyo burger and the Wagyu Katsu Burger. The Tokyo burger came with grilled onions instead of the promised tempura onion rings. I guess we don't really know what to except but whatever they gave us it looked nothing like the burger from the menu photo. Presentation was underwhelming. For my Wagyu Katsu burger, they gave me the chicken Katsu instead. I went to the cashier to correct my order and she gave me an attitude and was like "we repeated the order for you to double check" and when she checked turns out we did order the Wagyu one. She was terrible! But the other staff was nice and they just told me to keep the chicken and they'll remake the Wagyu burger for free. They explained it was the kitchen staff's first day at work.... Their Tokyo burger tasted good but nothing special. The chicken Katsu burger tasted like any other chicken sandwich... We took the Wagyu burger to go and added an egg on top with shredded carrots ourselves at home and it tasted really good. I think their burgers just need more ingredients. However I think the selling point of their Katsu Burgers is the Asian slaw - very unique flavoring! I really enjoyed their homemade fries. Although the only sauce they gave us was ketchup packets ... none of the "luck's and tonkatsu ketchup sauce" promised on the menu??? I think this is a pop-up restaurant inside of Zen, so not sure if they'll be there for long. But honestly there are so many good burger places in Austin, I won't be returning to this one. There were just too many things missing from what we were expecting based on the menu.

Yelp
First time ordering from this place. I ordered a to go cheese burger with a side of Asian slaw. I requested tomato and lettuce on the burger. When I got home, the lettuce and tomato were in the side carton where the asian slaw should be. And the Asia in slaw? None. And the burger looked like it was run over This was a simple order and the couldn't get that right I always try a basic item anytime I try someplace new. If they can get the basics right, I'll go back. Not this place. On edit: it appears as if they further screwed up my order by giving something with bbq sauce on it. A simple cheese burger with lettuce and tomato w/ slaw and a side of fries, and the could get that right

Yelp
Chill Japanese-American burger joint that has plenty to offer for those who wish for a sandwich or a taste of Japan.

Yelp
I had pretty low expectations for a burger pop-up; especially one in an Izakaya. I was massively and pleasantly surprised when I ordered the swagyu with cheese and the sidewinder fries. A ton of thought went into the burger - wagyu beef, a great bun, and then tonkatsu rather than ketchup (a nice reference to the Japanese culinary roots of the restaurant hosting the pop-up). The fries were delicious, especially with the tonkatsu sauce; I may have a problem and they would bottle it! Net net, if you go to hop doddy regularly - give this spot a try. The burger is actually better, and you can enjoy some old school anime while you eat!

Yelp
If you know me, you know that I love all things wagyu. When I heard that there was a burger speakeasy from the culinary team at Lucky Robot operating inside their sister restaurant, Zen, I knew I had to come by! Luck's Wagyu Burger Shoppe is the only wagyu burger shop in town. They also sell wagyu katsu burgers which is a Japanese dish of fried chicken made with panko bread crumbs. In fact, that's one of the burgers I got. Their Wagyu Katsu burger comes with Asian slaw, ketchup, tomato, and Luck's sauce. Pretty cool way of having a wagyu burger! Nice crunchy outside with the juicy meaty inside. Goes well with the sauce. The second burger I got is their Tokyo BBQ. This one has mild cheddar, onion rings, pickles, bbq ketchup, tomato, and mustard. Tastes just as you'd expect: a combination of sweet, tangy flavors and chewy and crunchy textures. Fun to eat this one too! Not pictured: their French fries. They were out of this world! All in all, I had a good time here. If I had to leave with one critique, I'd say I wish my burger buns were more toasted as they felt pretty dense as I kept taking bites. Other than that, I had a great experience with Luck's. The prices were very affordable given its wagyu and come with a side of fries. I also liked their wall decor full of various Japanese pieces. I give them a 4/5!

Yelp
The katsu chicken sandwich and the BTS Burger are two of my favorite lunches. And, the fries are amazing. Definitely give it a try.

Yelp
I heard about this place earlier this week, it's colocated with Zen on Anderson Lane but it's delivery only so it doesn't really matter where they are. They use Seamless delivery service and I was super impressed with them, they were here inside the delivery window and kept me updated throughout the process. I got the grilled chicken sandwich. I asked for no tomato but still got one. Not a huge deal to pull off but if you're actually allergic to something on your order you may want to be careful. The sandwich was hot, had juicy chicken and the sauce they use was tasty. I'm not a big eater and the burger was big so i cut mine in half to have the rest for lunch tomorrow. The fries are thick cut like steak fries. The order was huge and once again I'm having lunch with half of them tomorrow. They were still hot and crispy after the journey to my place. I think next time I'll try the Waygu beef burger. I'll definitely try this place again.

Yelp
Called in my order for a curbside pickup. Was told it would take about 15 minutes but I think it was ready earlier. I ordered the Beyond Katsu Burger and fries. The order was ready when I arrived. It's located in the Zen Restuarant. First time eating at Luck's and Zen. In the future I'll have to try Zen. From their menu, the food looks good and reasonably priced! On to review Luck's food: Fries: These are curly steak fries! OMG! I LOVE steak fries! Next time I'll order it with the extra tongarashi seasoning. The amount that was sprinkled on was almost nothing. The little I did taste was yummy. I think the fries would taste better if I got them right away. Like I mentioned, the order was probably ready before the 15 minute mark. Large serving! Enough for 2 people. Beyond Katsu Burger: I was so excited about this I forgot to ask if it was vegan - if egg is used in the coating. Next time I order it, I'll request the sauce and coleslaw on the side because it made the crunchiness of the katsu soft. I ate the burger in a circle because I wanted to eat the crunchy part before it got soggy. The sauce they use maybe spicy for some people - made my mouth tingle but I like spicy food. I opened the wrapping and the burger looked nice! You know, sometimes purchasing to-go burgers or other food, they get smushed and doesn't look as nice as the picture, but this one was looked like the picture! The bun was in perfect condition - so pretty! The burger is large - has height to it! I had to bite the top half and then the bottom half. Couldn't squish it down for a single bite. Next time I'm going to try their regular Beyond Burger. I'm surprised that the regular Beyond Burger and Beyond Katsu Burger is the same price. Thinking the katsu would cost more. These two items came close to $19 - tax included. Yeah it's pricy for a burger, but I didn't feel like I got cheated. The quantity and quality is there. Definitely a double thumbs up!

Yelp
I ordered online for pickup. 2 Tokyo BBQ burgers and a grilled chicken sandwich plus fries and Asian slaw. It said it would be ready in 15 mins. I arrived about 20-25 mins later and am told there was a glitch in the ordering system, they're behind and I'm "a few tickets down." 45 minutes later and my order still wasn't out, but plenty of people who entered and ordered while I was there got their food. Finally, they check on my order and tell me it'll be out in 5 mins. Within a minute or so, the fries come out, but nothing else. It was another 20 mins. The shift manager comped my order and tossed in another order of fries. Good idea since the first batch sat out so long. I race home to eat with my family, only to find there were items missing from all of our sandwiches. And the burgers were burnt. While I do appreciate them comping my order, I'm not inclined to give my business to Zen or Luck Wagyu.

Yelp
I drove 30 miles just to be let down by Luck's. They forgot the serranos on my Akuma Burger and gave me a burnt Chicken Katsu sandwich. Unlucky.

Yelp
Had the BTS burger, did not disappoint it was so good and to have a gluten free bun option was a plus. I wish I would've been able to order the fries because not only are they big but looked so good, I've had the almond slaw Instead. This was my first time having a Wagyu burger, all the rumors are true it was truly delicious!

Nathan P.

Yelp
I had the Wagyu katsu burger and it was great. Crispy and flavorful on the outside yet medium in the center. The flavors and textures go great together. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and hospitality makes me want to come back.

Yelp
Ordered today through Lunchdrop. The restaurant got my order wrong and sent a side of onion rings instead of home fries (I confirmed that Lunchdrop put my order in correctly). As for the burger, the wagyu was SO overcooked and dry. I wouldn't bother giving it another shot when I could get a better burger from Short Stop or Whataburger or P Terry's or.... Wherever.

Whitney R.

Yelp
I've had the Katsu sando several times and have never been disappointed-- plus, having a gluten-free bun option is always nice. The new BTS burger was my latest adventure, and the combo of the grilled cheese and mushrooms with bacon was amazing! No one talks about their MASSIVE fries (not sure why), because I would make a trip for the fries alone-- they're that good. And if there's another place in town where you can get an all-wagyu patty without having to pay over $20, I haven't found it yet.
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
What a disappointment. We ordered a wagyu burger and Tokyo BBQ. The wagyu patties were tiny and shriveled, burned on the outside, and totally dry. I wasn't even sure I was eating real meat - there was no flavor. Very high cost for very small burger which tasted like it had been cooked long ago and rewarmed. Never again.
