The 22 Best Sandwich Places In Chicago

"Lucky’s is one of our favorite stops in Wrigleyville for a sandwich and a beer in a bar setting. They have thick-cut, soft white bread that’s stuffed with your choice of meats, cheeses, and french fries. The whole french fry in the sandwich situation might not be new, but it’s still great. Make Lucky’s a go-to stop before or after any Cubs game. Tomatoes, coleslaw, and fries come standard on top of every sandwich. Not with, on." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor

The 17 Best Restaurants Near Wrigley Field

"We love a good stop at Lucky’s anytime we’re in the Wrigley area. They have thick-cut, soft white bread that’s stuffed with your choice of meats, cheeses, and french fries. Yes, french fries in the sandwich. It could come across as just a gimmick, but it’s actually very good. The space isn’t very big, but works for smaller groups or a casual meal by yourself. Come here for beer and a sandwich you would have dreamt of in college but never made because you were too lazy." - sam faye, adrian kane

Got the pollo loco for takeout. Held up pretty well. Cajun chicken thighs were flavorful, good amount of pepper jack cheese, solid fried egg, and soft white bread. Chorizo was all bundled up in one spot which made for an unbalanced bite, but was tasty. Fries were kind of bland but crisp while the coleslaw was very acidic.

My 1st time there was Sunday for the Cowboys game had an amazing time. Mozzarella sticks are the size of your hand and are fire!!! Hamburger and fries fire!!! Haven't tried anything else yet. Atmosphere and owner awesome will be going back

Google
Great sandwiches. I ordered the capicola and cheese which comes with the meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar coleslaw and french fries all on the sandwich. Very attentive and friendly service.

Google
Just what I was looking for! As someone who grew up on Primanti’s, this is not as good. Buuuuut as someone who lives hours away from home, this is definitely the closest I’ve had. The bread isn’t as flimsy as Mancini’s, the slaw isn’t as tangy/could probably use a little more celery salt, and the fries were 100x better than the limp ones you get from the motherland. Change those things and I think it’ll be closer to the original. You can never go wrong with a cap and cheese, no tomato, add onion. I will be back to get a taste of home, probably every other week to be honest. Also, the mozz sticks were incredible. Huge and full cheese stretch included.

Google
First time here and had and amazing experience. Service is great and the food is excellent. Got the buffalo and mango habanero wings and the Blue Demon sandwich. Definitely recommend the buffalo wings but the mango habanero lacked flavor. The sandwich was very tasty as well. Will definitely be returning because of the great service and food.

Google
I went here after a Cubs game. And the service was great! Food was great! I'm the pictures is the big kahuna burger/sandwich. Great cook, and the habenero sauce on it was very nice. Definitely have to go back when I'm more sober. 😁

Google
Enjoyed our time here. Food came out decently fast and sandwiches were good. The fredo sandwich was okay and lacked flavor, but the not so big Italian was really great. The spicy peppers were a nice touch. The Buffalo blue was also really good if you’re into that sort of thing. I’m really not a fan of the uncooked white bread, I just feel the sandwiches would be way better on toasted bread. All in all I’ll probably pick other sandwiches near the area it’s just not my style.

Google
Best. Sandwich. In. Chicago. Yes I said it. The crispy warm fries and slaw with just the right amount of zing on the perfectly steamed bread… This is the perfect sandwich after a Cubs game or whenever you find yourself in Wrigleyville.

Yelp
Great service and nice ambiance. The food is amazing. I was watching BeardMeatsFood the other day. It is fascinating all the different places which have food challenges. I don't care to do one ever, nonetheless cool to watch someone complete them. In an episode the challenge at Lucky's Sandwich Co. is accomplished. The food looked really good too. Much respect for anyone completing this challenge of three sandwiches. One sandwich is very filling. So anyway, it's New Year's Eve. The winter classic is going on in Wrigley. Might as well eat some great food and see some of the game at the bar. So that's what I did. I ate the Blue Demon sandwich. So tasty with the vinaigrette slaw on the Buffalo chicken and fries and the other toppings. Condiments at the table are great (two hot sauces, ketchup, and mustard), with more napkins there too. This sandwich is VERY filling. I'm eating a half, I thought this is a good meal yet not filling. Halfway through the second half of the sandwich, I was feeling full lol. Upon completion of the whole sandwich, very full. Well worth trying this food. Tasty and filling. Great people and tvs to watch some sports.

Yelp
Been here too many times to count and will definitely come back again. Their wings are amazing!! Try the cajun bay dry rub and of course classic buffalo. I will say I am not a huge fan of their sandwiches since I don't want my fries ON the sandwich but my husband loves them just as they come. Staff are always friendly even on game days when they are super busy.

Yelp
I can't hit Wrigleyville without lunch at Lucky's. I've been hooked ever since years ago I saw these guys featured on "Man Vs. Food." The concept is simple. Meat and cheese and sandwich fixings--and the fries, too--ALL stuffed between two slices of thick cut white bread. You know how eating breakfast cereal lets you eat and drink at the same time with one hand? Eating a Lucky's sammy lets you eat your mains and your sides at the same time with one hand! (Okay, maybe two hands, because these sammies are fat with flavor.) Food always comes out fast. Full bar available, but I prefer to wash it all down with one of their featured local brews on tap. I love Lucky's!

Yelp
Our SpotHero parking spot was right behind Lucky's and we were staying at the Hotel Zachary while in Chicago, so we decided to stop in for a drink and a bite to eat. The bar was quiet but had some good music playing. The bartender was really friendly and kind and spent time chatting with us, which was nice. We got some chicken tenders and fries to share with our drinks. The food was just okay - the chicken was a little tough. The fries were the hand cut kind. They're mostly known for their sandwiches, but we just wanted a small snack. Apparently they sandwiches are huge and if you eat three in one sitting, you get your name on the wall. I'd come back and try one next time - they smelled really good. I'd been curious about Malort for a while and had heard how much everyone hates it. I asked the bartender what it tastes like and she said like biting into a grapefruit peel. She offered me a taste but I just got a whole shot. Honestly I'm not sure why everyone hates it so much - it's definitely bitter, but I didn't mind it. If you like amaros you'd probably be fine with it. Overall it was a chill spot and did the job for our needs. I'm sure it gets busy during the summer but it was nice being there in the off season.

Josh T.

Yelp
Sandwich was killer. Wish I would have not asked for everything on the side though. Once assembled it was FN amazing

Larry B.

Yelp
Great sandwiches, excellent service and easy parking, wide variety of selections and reasonably priced for what you get.

Yelp
After a late night Cubs game we were thankful that this place was open! The bartender was nice! I had the wings and cheese fries - I know, I know....but I wasn't feeling a sandwich! The wings and fries were delicious though! This place is heavy of grubhub/delivery orders! Not too many coming in to sit down and eat, which left us room since it is a pretty small place in general. By the way, the owners of this sandwich bar are the same as the bar attached to it.
google avatar

Yelp
Lucky's is a Chicago classic. Both in terms of their delicious sandwiches, as well as their consistent friendly service!
google avatar

Nick F.

Yelp
What has happened to Lucky's? Used to be my go to before a Cub game. Was a great experience and sandwich. Sadly, it's gone south. Bread was stale and it's not the same. Lunchmeat is lower quality and salty beyond belief. Even the fries and bland now. I've given them two chances simply because I loved them so much. I'm done and my bet is will be closed within a year. No one was in there on a game day.

Yelp
Right in the heart of Wrigley, this place is an old school joint. Really cool interior - old world wood style, and hand written menu on the wall. Come here for the wings if nothing else. They were absolutely wonderful - possible one of the best wings in the city. GET THE OLD BAY WINGS with the garlic parmesan sauce. I can't name a better combo. The two bagger sandwich was just alright. Weird concept putting the fries inside the sandwich. I would ask for them on the side next time... The mozzarella sticks were really good fresh & warm, but didn't heat up well at home (that is to be expected tho..) This place is really good. Definitely recommend it and would come here again for those wings. I dream of them.
google avatar

Charlie W.

Yelp
We ordered delivery again and it was fast. The wings were only okay this time, but I am glad we got because we couldn't eat our sandwiches. The photos on the site, description, and "what we expected" did not match up or deliver. We were expecting buns not bread and at least the bread to be toasted. We wouldn't have ordered burgers, we would've ordered different sandwiches. We didn't also realize that the fries came on the sandwich and we would've done without. The photos and description just did not match what we received. We were really disappointed. My man just tried 4 bites and threw it out completely. I forgot the fries weren't for my taste to begin with (just a personal preference) and ordered an extra side. That was my mistake. The chili was still on point. I wish they offered different sizes for the chili I would've gotten a bigger size. It is what it is. We just won't try again for sandwiches. Chili and wings we will do again though, but most likely not for quite awhile
google avatar

Leah C.

Yelp
not the best... and definitely not great delivered. 3 different sandwiches ordered and none of us (carnivore friend, vegetarian me, and easy to please son) liked our sandwiches. we all agreed the bread was dry and not tasty. the meat, chewy. for me, the veggies bland and oily. the fries were grainy and half-cooked. the coleslaw (in the sandwich), watery. i requested the coleslaw on the side since it was a delivery and they forgot it for my sandwich (mind you, a vegetarian sandwich--bare bones as it is). when i phoned them they simply said "we don't see the order bc it's door dash. we can't help you." um ok.
google avatar

Nicholas L.

Yelp
Sandwiches are large but very dry and unwieldy. You'll need to add your own condiments
google avatar

Melanie V.

Yelp
Great sandwich spot right in the thick of it on Clark. Not really a place where the teenie boppers hang so it's great if you're looking for a good meal and beer without the major chaos. While they are known for their sandwiches, the chicken tenders and cheese fries are a must! Juicy, real pieces of chicken with a crispy and light breading. A variety of sauces to choose from, plus do veggies. Highly recommend although their bathrooms are not great. I was pregnant, therefore sober and using the bathroom frequently...bring extra sanitizer if you find yourself in that situation. Or just get the food to go!
google avatar

Sophia D.

Yelp
Amazing wings and a great portion!!! Am definitely getting wings for Super Bowl Sunday
google avatar

Jimi L.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are pretty unique ... they put cole slaw and fries on them ... like the primanitti brothers in Pittsburgh. I order the chicken one and it came with a fried egg and chorizo and I must say the chorizo was flavorful and delicious ... Only 4/5 beers on tap mostly IPA's .... prices are on par with other bars and places in wrigleyville ... the only thing I didn't like is when you go pay the bill ... they try to guilt you in tipping wayyyy over ... they give you an option of 22%, 24% and 26% ... if you are not careful you will over tip ... I had to look for an custom button in order to pay my bill .... otherwise good experience ... very small place came on a Saturday before the Cubs game and the place got full fast.

Yelp
Looking for nearby places that serve sandwich this place pop up. I decided to give it a try and to be honest... what an AMAZING SANDWICH.. Fresh meat, fresh fries and fresh everything. Definitely I will be back.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night and we got seats right at the bar. TVs to watch any games and a nice beer selection considering how small this place is. Sandwiches are amazing (Get the corned beef). If you are considering visiting this place, I say go :) ***They put the fries ON THE SANDWICH. You can't go wrong***
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
This is a small bar, sandwich shop. It's close to Wrigley so I'm sure it gets crazy busy on game days. We came when the Cubs were out of town. The place was still 3/4 full but we sat down and we greeted immediately. The beer list is on the table and we were given menus. The staff is friendly the beer was cold. My son ordered the American sandwich and I had the wings. I like spicy so I asked about the OMG wings. The server said they were hot but the buffalo and mango habanero were hotter. I opted for the mango habanero. When the food came out the server asked my son if he wanted mayo or mustard and he said no. I took a bit of his sandwich and I found it to be dry. My son said the sandwich was alright. My wings looked good but I found them under seasoned. The sauce was okay, no real kick. The celery has brown spots on it. I would give it a second chance because the staff was so friendly.
google avatar

Helen O.

Yelp
I'm almost afraid to post this review for fear that my family and I won't be able to get seated next time we go to Wrigley Field. This place is amazing. The sandwiches are enormous. Bartender Dave was excellent. Seriously, you need to stop here next time you are in Wrigleyville.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
I'm shocked this spot doesn't have a little higher of rating. I found it delicious. On a mission to see the Dodgers play at all 30 ballparks and was stoked to go to a Wrigley day game and stop by here prior to the Dodgers beating the Cubs. My friend and I ordered a Corned Beef and a Cheesesteak and split our sandwiches. Both were delicious and portions are generous. They were so big, i had another half to enjoy at the game and I eat a lot! Adding fries to a sandwich is genius, why we don't do that in California is beyond me. I guess too many carbs but sometimes the carbs are worth it. The staff here was awesome too, super friendly and efficient. If I return to Chicago and I'm sure I will, I'll make sure to stop by here again. Until next time, Lucky's!
google avatar

Jeffrey P.

Yelp
On my trip to Wrigleyville, I stopped by a place that I first heard about from Travel Channels', "Man vs Food" This sandwich place has any sandwich you can think of but with one twist...every sandwich comes with coleslaw and fries on the sandwich!!!! I had the public favorite "Two Begger" corned beef and pastrami with the works! Absolutely delicious!!!
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
These sandwiches are massive. Loaded with Fries inside them, just like the pictures show. Was here For dinner on a Friday before March Madness. The two bagger pastrami and corn beef was very tasty. Felt like 2 meals. Bartender Dave was very outgoing and helpful with recommendations. Will def be back.

Bill S.

Yelp
Food is great, but apparently they're closed all day Monday through Wednesday, but they don't bother putting that on their website. So don't make the mistake I did and rely on their website hours, only to find out you wasted your time.

Mathew D.

Yelp
Big boys like big toys. The Blue Demon sandwich, excellent as always. Luckys never disappoints

Tommy D.

Yelp
Heavy pours, fantastic food, and great vibes. Incredible service from Dave, and the new dartboard is a great addition.
google avatar

Mr. Tender Chicken ..

Yelp
I Went there in late June of 2018 and ordered the Chicken Tenders. They're well known for their sandwiches and was happy to see what they brought out when I ordered them. They looked hand-made and battered since they had that extra crispy breading that you often see from KFC or Popeye's tenders. The batter itself seemed okay and the tenders had an average taste. More than I'd expect from a sandwich shop. It served well as great fuel for heavier drinking (what can i say, it's in wrigleyville) as an appetizer.
google avatar

Jay L.

Yelp
This sandwich is trash. Customer service is trash. The cook is trash. The place is trash! Soggy bread! No taste ! Dry meat ! Beware .
google avatar

Errol B.

Yelp
This place has now reached a new low. They are using the name "Wingstop Unlimited" on DoorDash. If one didn't look at the address in the listing or realize the menu is pretty different than a real Wingstop they would be taken under the impression as this is a unique Wingstop location. This kind of behavior is pretty sad. Oh yeah, there are a few other names that are now using since I made my last update: People's Vegan Burgers and The Big Melt. I believe there are a couple more as well. I will update again soon.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Imagine a beautifully crafted Italian style sandwich, with the perfect ratio of bread, lettuce, tomato, meat, cheese, oil and seasoning. The bread has a light crispiness on the outside with a soft inside. It is refreshing and balanced and makes for the perfect sandwich experience. Now imagine the exact opposite, and that it what you will find at Lucky's. This sandwich lacks balance, thought, and craftsmanship. Every sandwich comes standard with a mountain of fries. Fries on the sandwich was cool in 2008. They are a creativity cop-out and greatly lower the already below-average sandwich experience. The other ingredients lack proper rationing. It's as though they are competing to build the tallest sandwich with nothing else in mind. If you are an unsophisticated sandwich consumer seeking a mile high pile of meat and fries as opposed to a well-rounded sandwich, this is the place for you.
google avatar

Charles W.

Yelp
I had heard about Lucky's from an episode of man v food. Since it was st. Patrick's day, it was a 30 minute wait to get inside. Service was very quick. After a 30 minute walk/train ride/walk I got back to my hotel and the sandwich was still warm and tasted delicious. It was very filling but I think I could have consume a 2nd sandwich! I will definitely come back on a less hectic day.
google avatar

Alison W.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer with a friend. I got the Goose Island 312, which is a wheat ale they have on tap. It's different than a regular wheat beer (ie Blue Moon). So it wasn't my favorite but it was my mistake comparing the two. Haha. They have a good variety of beers on tap and in beer bottles. The bf got a two brothers beer. Our friend was saying the wings are delish. We weren't hungry so we didn't have any food. And I guess Adam from Man vs Food did a challenge/show here.
google avatar

Marvin S.

Yelp
I really like this place. We went will the Cubs game was still going on so the table wait time was not bad. I ordered the cheesesteak. Our food came out very quick. I was thinking it might not be very fresh since it came out so fast. I was pleasantly surprised the meat, cheese, and fries were hot and the cole slaw was cold. The bread very soft and tasted like it was freshly baked. I would never consider eating slaw, fries, bread, and meat all together, but it worked well. I would have liked more meat and more seasoning on the meat. I would definitely make a return visit to try something else.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Big sandwiches for the money. I got the Al Capone and was able to eat half for lunch and half for dinner!
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Make sure you come hungry. These sandwiches are amazing and massive. The place was on Man vs. Food. All sandwiches come with fries and coleslaw ON the sandwich. Average beer/drink selection, but I wouldn't come here to hang out and drink. I'd rather come have a sandwich for lunch or dinner. Small, open dining area with doors in the front that they open on nice day. Overall, great experience and I will be coming back!
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
These famous sandwiches are HUGE!!! I had some friends visiting in town and we were looking for a cool spot for lunch in Wrigleyville. We happened to walk past this place, poke our heads in, and decided to stay for lunch. I made the good/bad decision to order the Not So Little Italy Sandwich and it was great. I love that the fries are served on the sandwich! Pro Tip: Split a sandwich with a friend or take half of it home for lunch the next day.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
A great place to grab a sandwich and a beer nestled between the bars and late night spots in Wrigleyville. It's pretty small so I wouldn't recommend bringing a huge group, I think the biggest group we saw was about 6-7 people, and four of us were slightly crammed into a small tabletop. The sandwiches are huge! And delicious! If you order fries they come on the sandwich, making them that much bigger. Speaking of fries, I had a side of the fries with chili and cheese and it was so good. I like that they're open late, and that they serve food late. If you're feeling up to a challenge you can do their 3-sandwich challenge (3-sandwiches in 30 minutes). Doesn't really sound like a challenge until you see the sandwiches. But again, the sandwiches are so worth it.
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in Wriglyville! If you're in town this is the place to grab a bite after a Cubs game! The sandwiches are enormous!! If you're not a big eater I suggest you share you're sandwich. The venue is small and casual with a sports bar feel to it.
google avatar

Blair Y.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Lucky's Sandwich Company. I found out about this spot through Man vs. Food and tried it on my first visit to Wrigleyville back in 2012. I loved it that time and made sure to return this past summer when we visited. Huge sandwiches are what's on tap here. We started with an order of mango habanero wings, which were huge, tasty and crazy hot. There is a great selection of local craft beers on tap, but I was already on a roll that day so kept crushing Miller High Life's. The sandwiches are a ramped up version of what you get at Primanti Bros. In Pittsburgh... massive sammys on thick cut white bread with your French fries and slaw heaped atop your choice of sandwich filling inside the sandwich. I opted for "The Fredo" this visit... ham, salami, capicola and Swiss cheese. My buddy James went with the "Not So Little Italy" which was heaped with different meats including Italian Sausage. We shared a half of each sandwich each... so much food and so damn tasty. A great location, great staff and great atmosphere. I'll be back anytime I visit Chicago!
google avatar

Magdalena G.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches! I loved the Fredo with Cajun seasoning. Now as a vegetarian, the veggie sandwich with cheese and Cajun seasoning still hit the spot. Love this place. Wish we lived closer to have it more often. All sandwiches come with fries and vinegar coleslaw on them and with super fresh bread.
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
This sandwich is superior to its Pittsburgh counterpart (Primanti Bros.), although I may be biased. It's the perfect meal before a game at Wrigley. My go to is the crispy buffalo chicken, but everything is solid!
google avatar

Hollyn G.

Yelp
I don't know who all these nasty b-holes are that made negative reviews on this amazing spot! Man-it was really, really, really good. I mean good. I was so surprised by the ratings, truly. Just try and and thank me later!
google avatar

Juan C.

Yelp
Man! I was looking for late night food on a saturday around 1am and WOOO this place served me a Big Kahuna and I APPROVE X1000! Such a good sandwich and even better with extra sauce. I was very very content, any negative reviews come from people who eat sand.
google avatar

Becky M.

Yelp
The sandwiches are tasty and the service is always friendly. Perfect place to eat before a game!
google avatar

David J. E.

Yelp
Honesty I went to this place with the impression my mind was going to be blown given they have the self proclaimed "best sandwich in Chicago" but it was so bad I felt like I would be doing a disservice to people by not reviewing it. Upon leaving I told my GF I would have preferred to just walk in hand then $35 and leave. Nothing had any taste.
google avatar

Tommy O.

Yelp
Since moving to Chicago, I've created a certain tradition for the past 3 years and that's to watch week 1 NFL football all day on Sunday and order Lucky's wings. Because FOOTBALL IS BACK BABY!!!!! I first heard of this place from Man vs. Food and I inspire one day to be like Adam Richman and take on the Lucky's stuffed sandwich challenge, which is to finish 3 sandwiches in under 1 hour. Lots have tried and many have failed. Lucky's is known for their massive 1.5 lb sandwiches stuffed with slaw, tomatoes, and fries. My favorite is the Two Bagger because I love Pastrami and Corned Beef. Their sandwiches have great flavor and are a great bang for your buck. Other go-to's are the Roast Beef and Blue Demon. But I came here for the wings. The wings are pretty underrated at Lucky's because of their sandwiches. I like to order them extra crispy because sometimes they aren't crispy enough. But I love their sauces. My favorites are the Garlic Parmigiana, Chipotle BBQ, Honey Mustard, and the Teriyaki. The OMG isn't overwhelming spicy, but it is their spiciest. Take that with a grain of salt because I have a very high spice tolerance. Lucky's is very small and it seats about 30 people. It is a nice bar in Wrigleyville and they have about 6 beers on draft. Service has been great and Ryan, the Bartender, is a cool dude. If you have ever heard of Primanti Brothers in Pennsylvania, Lucky's is very similar to them and that is a compliment!

McLain M.

Yelp
Tried this place for this first time earlier today. Service was super friendly, however, their sandwiches just aren't good. The soggy fries and vinegar coleslaw completely overwhelm the sandwich, leaving little room for the minimal meat they add.. the bread wasn't toasted so the sandwich fell apart immediately. So many better options on Clarke street

Tyer C.

Yelp
Only go of you like your cheese steak on soggy white bread and it falling all over. I thought the Man vs Food was a special not the actual food
