I never write reviews but this is a warning to future patrons. Do not come here if you are a stranger. The staff will immediately have their guard up and treat you as if you aren’t welcomed (which is not a normal behavior if you are looking to gain and retain customers but to each their own). It’s obvious from the reviews that this is the culture at Lucky and a culture that the owner and stuff continues to support and pursue. From the moment I walked in on Saturday night to the moment I left every interaction with the middle aged female bartender was a negative one. Apparently this is the norm there. Hopefully she is okay because it exudes a lot of energy to be so miserable all of the time especially at your job. At Lucky they are happy with their regulars and aren’t looking for new business.

According to the owner, “Lucky is a comfortable neighborhood bar, delightfully douche-free, with a warm, whip-smart staff that doesn’t suffer fools.” Well, I made a trip to East Village just to check this spot out, and I must say I will never return! The bartender, Tracy, was the biggest “douche” in the place. She was slamming stuff around and very rude to me multiple times. Save yourself the time and go around the corner to 11th street bar… much nicer, good drinks, and friendly staff.

The bartender was complaining about “all these new people”. She seemed to be so inconvenienced. We went with a group of friends, and as one of them was ordering a beer he overheard a female bartender complain. When he came back and shared what he had heard the vibe completely changed. Some of us were planning on staying longer but we decided to leave after that.

Female bartender has a horrible attitude — really turning business away. I’d recommend hiring someone with a better personality for your business. Judging by the reviews, she seems to have a common pattern

It's an ok dive but it's an automatic 0 because of the dogs they allow on the bar. Leave your pets at home. Goodbye.

Okay drinks and service but there are way better bars in the East Village— the bathroom is great though

New favourite neighbourhood bar!! Karen was amazing and whipped me up a drink that was delicious and was kind enough to lend us some cash to use for the jukebox. Love this place and will be back!!

Female owned & operated dive bar with live music sometimes. They are one of the hosts of the annual HONK NYC activist street brass band festival. Good craft beer selection on tap, as well as traditional Belgian & German beers. Warm vibes : )

MANHATTAN/East Village: Lucky is a great bar with specialty cocktails, regional beers, live music, events, and leashed and friendly dogs are allowed inside! The bar has a warmth to it with dim lighting, a long brick wall, and wood floors. Our bartender was awesome and let us know that the place gets packed at night, so we recommend visiting during the day with your dog. There is seating at the bar and a few tables in the back. You can bring your own food and they are open from Noon-4am daily!

Love coming here just to chill, sit and mind my own business.. sometimes I meet cool ppl, sometimes I'm just not up for human interaction, but Lucky's offers space for both. Bartenders are always cool, offer great service and cater to my special needs(I require lots of water to go with my booze, and extra lime), and I make sure to top them properly.. this probably has a lot to do with them putting up with me.. TiP your bartenders.

Some of the best times in the city can be had at Lucky. The stellar staff attracts a fun variety of customers, and the live music is top notch.

If you exclude 80% of your business, does that mean you're in the business of responding to negative yelp reviews? Perhaps customer service and hospitality is not an industry you should be in. The market teaches you valuable life lessons in aadjustment. Also the bar is dingy, the beer is cheap, but you get what you pay for

As someone who never brings my debit card out of the house I love a true dive bar that takes credit cards. The staff and regulars are friendly, the inside bar area is just as cozy cute as the outdoor area complete with a porch swing. I wish they carried Lagunitas but I can happily settle for the All Day IPA :) Pro tip: there's a crowd that comes here every Wednesday so if you're looking for a lively spot this is a great night to come in.

Passed this bar with a friend and we decided we had to get a drink because we wanted to be lucky (again to retire ate - BE lucky not GET lucky) The place is small with a dim-lit vibe --we had an absolutely great conversation with the bartender who was so funny and sweet, took a quick tequila shot to fuel us and then we were on our way! On Saturday, my friends and I tried to go into this bar for a drink but were immediately met with hostility from the bar owner. Our one friend was dressed as Santa for Santacon and walked in with a drink, but was ready to throw it out. Immediately the owner started repeatedly screaming at us to "get the fuck out." She physically shoved our one friend and yelled that she didn't want any Santas. The owner had clearly been drinking, but I'm unsure how this bar stays in business when the owner is so disrespectful and mean to prospective customers.

Came in during Santa con and owner laid hands on my girlfriend. She had clearly been drinking but it was completely out of line. Our only intention was to patronize her bar but she was immediately hostile. Please do not support this behavior.

The old lady that owns the place always seems miserable. Which clearly rubs off on the barmaids, who spend more time complaining about the neighborhood and their customers than making drinks and keeping the place neat and tidy. Far better bars in the area, skip this one.

I really really really really miss drinking in Alphabet City. And so the other night I said to hell with it, masked up and went out. You guys, it was so strange, and I felt weird being around so many people, drinking outside (legally), but I have to say. The heart of the city is still beating strong down here. Anywho, after a pitcher + the obligatory cold quesadilla at east village social, and a few doubles + the (no joke) 1/2 bologna sandwich at 7B, we were about ready to check out. That's when I remembered about Lucky. I have to say, Lucky is not the first bar that I think of in ABC, but it always seems to come to mind when I hit ave B and the park. Its a solid, no-frills kind of place that ALWAYS gets the job done, and I have found it to be great as a pregame spot or as an end of the nightspot*. The staff is chill and the drinks are always on point. The new restrictions mean drinking in the front, but I have to say I don't mind that one bit, especially on Ave B. There is always something going on over in this sorta hard to get to area, and I have always appreciated it over here. Anywho, if you're looking for a spot for a solid drink at a solid price and happen to be in Alphabet City, you'd be hard-pressed to find a spot that will do you better than Lucky will. ______ *Careful though, the drinks are strong and cheap, I have 100% ended up with a hangover from night-capping here. This is of course of my own doing.

Not much has changed. New neon sign makes it easier to find. Some snack foods available. A G&T was $11 using Bombay gin which I thought was a little high.

Would love to not leave any star because the lady working 10/29 was so rude to me and my friends. We were trying to decide what drinks to get and she said "are you going to order or just be on your phones?" We we're on our phones because it took her so long to get to us. And then she walked away without even asking us. Then when she finally came back after serving the rest of the bar, we asked for the pumpkin shots and she said "we're out" and walked away, not even taking the rest of our order! She was rude to everyone but at least gave others drinks where she wouldn't even work with us. I asked some people on our way out and they said she's not always the bartender which is good. This older lady was so bad!

Came here Saturday night with a small group. GREAT intimate space, the patrons and bartender were super friendly and welcoming. We came in as strangers and made new friends. My only regret is that we don't live closer.

Came here for a quick drink while waiting for someone. Happy hour runs till 8pm which is great as most places close it off an hour or two earlier. Tuesday evening and only a small scattering of people at the bar, however there was also plenty of table room in the back. Quickly ordered a pint on draft for $3. Great value! On top of that, they were running a special for a free shot to those who voted. Good on the bartender/owner who got me one without me even knowing this promotion existed. All in all good spot for a laid back affordable drink. They don't mind if you bring food either.

While this is a lovely bar with wonderful thoughtful bartenders, one of whom I consider a dear friend, upon information, the owner is completely opposed to having air-conditioning at the bar during the summer. I don't understand the point of subjecting patrons to an uncomfortable environment and then expecting sales to happen as if by miracle. Yes one SHOULD support their local business but also people should support places that care for THEM. I write this on a night where it's 9:44pm, I could reasonably go to the bar and spend $40 plus, however in anticipation of being in a hot bar (on a day when I feel like I've been walking in a tepid gazpacho eh), the bar owners stubborn behavior compels me to go to a Brooklyn bar and have a night cap near home. Great neighborhood and community spot. Fun, colorful events- great to see the east village alive.

Lucky is a new bar in the East Village owned by a bartender who has been at it for years and it shows! I was part of an event that was being held here and definitely enjoyed the vibe that was going on. Abby the owner/bartender is engaging and friendly and knows how to pour a good drink. Cara too is just as awesome. The bar area and outdoor patio was clean as well as the bathroom which seems to be something people mention when reviewing this place. The bar itself was decorated nicely and kept dimly lit. One major plus here is their awesome jukebox. The jukebox here has mixes from various famous NYC bars Abby has tended and has a little bit of everything ranging from punk to alternative and everything in between. One thing that will bring me back for sure is the non pretentious attitude here. Nothings worse than a bar that treats you as if you don't belong there. Not here. You feel welcomed as if youve been a long time friend. I'd recommend this place and suggest you stop by.

Fantastic place. Best juke box ever. Gritty place with actual regulars who will engage you as if you were a regular. Outside garden is a bonus, but the bar is just fabulous. The owner was there when we went and couldn't have been more welcoming! Cross between a Brit pub and an old style NY bar. A MUST visit as it gets you out of the tourist joints and gives you a glimpse into the real NYC!

Came here during Santacon, since we were pretty much over the long lines and abundance of drunk Santa's and I have to say that it was the best choice we made all day. A quaint lil gem in the East Village where a lot of the locals go. A little dark, a little grimy but all the New York feels, nothing frou-frou about it. I love this place because it isn't super packed and the prices are super affordable compared to the surrounding bars around the area. The bartender Abby is on point, and let's you know exactly how it is which I had really appreciated. She always made sure we always had a drink in our hands. If you are ever in the East Village of New York you must come out to this place and support the local business.

A most excellent little neighborhood bar and not at all a "dive bar".. to me a dive bar smells like skunked beer, has barf in the bathroom (and no toilet paper), and serves budweiser and shitty well drinks, and has a crop of old alchoholic dudes sprouting roots in the bar stools... Don't get me wrong, I do love me a good ole dive bar.. Lucky is just not that. Lucky is not pretentious. It's a nice little watering hole. Fun cocktail menu, local regional beers, cool bar staff, cute yard, awesome juke box, and dog friendly. What more could you want?! Woohoo! Oh and the frozen lemonade.. a bitchin margarita too!

There are a number of great bars in the East Village and Lucky's is undoubtedly one of the gems in the area. The bartenders there are always incredibly friendly and pour great drinks and the place itself just makes you feel so welcome to be there. Definitely one of my go to spots in New York.

I've been Lucy's few times with some friends. It is always good to be there and always a good times. The bar owed by such a sweet lady whose name is Abby. They have really nice selection of beers and cocktails. I only had beers. Lucky the ambiance of the place is so good always feels like home because of the owner is so nice. The bar has a backyard as well. We had a October fest with beer club friends and if the weather is nice, their backyard is really great. Hope we can have another event soon and go back there again

Lucky! Not only the name of this place! But how I felt finding it! A week before my annual holiday party, my original bar cancelled on me due to a scheduling conflict. Frantically I begin searching the EV for another place to host my group of thirty. I stumbled upon Lucky and contacted the owner, Abby via Yelp. Without hesitation she took us in, like baby Jesus on a cold night. The reviews here are clearly written by transplant brats because I had nothing but an amazing time with Abby. She was helpful, funny, kind, and a boss ass bitch. Lucky is small but roomy and cozy. It's a neighbourhood bar. You're in Alphabet City okay, you're not at 13 Step. The bartenders were attentive, polite, funny af and had great pours. Despite my Christmas party being an utter failure, everybody was nice as hell and still served my measly party. I was totally grateful. 10/10 rating from me. If you're expecting shitty waiter service and overpriced cocktails go to PDT. If you're expecting great service, a warm atmosphere and RAGING BITCH ON DRAFT! This is the place to be. They also have an amazing patio. Thanks for everything guys!

At my arrival,I've asked the bartender (an elderly white woman)politely about an event I was invited to... her response was quite rude ...saying that this is it ...I thought,well maybe she is having a bad day/night. I've asked her to recommend me a tap beer of her choice ...and she gladly did . When i asked the name of the beer...she pointed her tongue between her V fingers and yelled something very rude(referring to the German beer she served me..3rd on beer menu). And yes,I tipped her . I proceeded to the event,which was held at the other end of the bar and purchased cd of one the artist offering. I do feel sad for people who are in agony or anger...doing what they do for living(referring to the bartender). I have the feeling that at Lucky ...is beyond that. So sad.

Best bar in NYC. Be grateful the owner kicks so many entitled kids out, it's why you'll have a great time there.

Normally never leave bad reviews but I've never felt more disrespected. On Thursday night me and my friends stumbled upon this bar walking down ave B and decided to walk in for a drink. The women bartender yells loudly for us to stop and give her IDs which we gladly do (all 24 year olds) we definitely were on the younger side of that bars demographic (mostly everyone looked to be in their 40s+) she approves our IDs and then proceeds to say loudly "this isn't your type of bar... maybe you should try next door" and proceeds to laugh with the other bartender. We were shocked and decided to walk out. On the way out we heard her exclaim "told their asses to leave"

We came to Lucky because the board said check out our "big back yard" and of course we went in!!! Backyard was nonexistent so we went to the bathroom and was kicked out. Blonde short haired lady made us leave and didn't get $80 in business from us. Great potential but horrible service.

Honestly my Michelada was great but what was not great was the bartender (elderly white woman) complaining about people using the summer Tippler (such as myself). She complained that people did not tip, though we tipped and another woman at the same time as us tipped, but she proceeded to trash talk her because she left and did not finish her drink (which she paid for via Tippler AND tipped on). I also don't really like the fact that this is a Mexican place and there were no workers of color to be found. Update: She yelled at me and made me leave the bar! Removing one star for the disservice. Will be reaching out directly to the Tippler people.

One word: unprofessional. The drinks were good however the bartender was very antagonistic. It's funny: the owner says to go to other bars if you don't want to deal with her bad service. I wholeheartedly agree. Take your money somewhere else. No one needs to get yelled at.

I've come here a few times and always enjoyed myself. The owner and the staff are super friendly and they have a full bar to get your booze on. They also have a pretty good selection of beers. The inside space can get a bit cramped, but they also have a garden space, which is really nice in warm weather.

Great place with great service. Management stands behind employees and keeps out troublesome customers, and isn't afraid to clap back at them, in order to maintain a positive experience for the rest of the clientele.

They advertise glitter shots at this bar, but don't bother. The bartender hates making them and will make that known to you. He was an absolute jerk to us, and promptly refused to serve our group after serving us 1 round of shots (we were not disorderly or disrespectful in case you were wondering - he was just lazy). Probably lost the bar a few hundred dollars of our business. We don't plan on returning, the service was terrible. EDIT: dear abby, it's impossible for that bartender to have made us over 20 shots because there were only 10 of us and he cut us off after the first round. As someone who is well experienced in NYC nightlife (I'm a native - are you???) I can only wish you better fortunes. The way you treat customers is unacceptable. Learn to take criticism.

Naira A. If you can't afford to go out, don't pick up the entire tab. 2nd maybe your friends should've picked up to their own tabs or tipped after you payed the entire bill. I'm sure your review, like so many on Yelp are so highly exaggerated, it makes YOU look bad. Especially since it's your only review. Abby: I tip my hat to you, and your amazing staff during these trying times. My next trip to NY, I'm coming in not to drink, but to just tip your crew! Cheers!

Update in response to Abby L-- you're right. We maybe should have called ahead. That has absolutely nothing to do with the lack of professionalism on the part of the bartender. A big group shouldn't mean he gets to be nasty. If you actually read the whole review instead of just picking which bits best suit your sarcastic narrative, you'd see there was no issue with speed of service. The issue was with his complete disinterest in going to the basement to get more of an ingredient (thus my sarcastic comment which appears to have sailed right over you) and his garbage attitude. No one yelled at him or demanded he hurry up -- they just asked for drinks he didn't feel like making, and he was very liberal with his opinions on the matter. If being rude to customers and responding to every negative review on Yelp with defensive sarcasm is your schtick, hey go for it. It works for some places. Just don't be shocked when you inevitably close down because people don't feel like being yelled at or ignored by your staff on a night out. ----------------------------------------------- Interesting bar. My friend wanted to come here as part of her birthday party celebration for the glitter shots. Yes we were part of a big crew and yes we are mostly millenials who wanted our Instagram-worthy drinks (two things I realize can be deeply annoying, especially on a Friday night), but we were also a super friendly and polite group, no one was drunk and obnoxious, and the bar wasn't that busy yet (it was only 9:30). The birthday girl ordered a round of glitter shots and the clearly-happy-with-his-life bartender quite literally yelled in her face that he'd have to go downstairs to get one of the ingredients, and why didn't she order a REAL drink, like tequila? (The irony of that was not lost on me, same as his checker patterned shirt.) Honestly? I think it was his misguided attempt at a little humor, but the delivery was poor and it went over like a fart in church. Instead of realizing his joke didn't quite hit the mark, he doubled down on his salty attitude and started ignoring people and refusing to make drinks after he had to go all the way to the basement for the rumchata. The birthday girl is a sweetheart and apologized for upsetting him but nah fam, this guy was not here to make her birthday a nice one. Despite having no energy to go to the basement for rumchata, he had lots of energy to run out to the backyard area and snipe to everyone who would listen that one of the guys in the party didn't tip him. He must've eaten a Snickers in between or something. All the one star reviews on this place about shit service are sadly accurate. Go to Mother of Pearl for your Instagram-worthy drinks and 7B or Double Down if you want a gdive bar experience.

I first came to Lucky on New Year's Eve 2017. I then proceeded to have the worst hangover of my life, but I credit Lucky to a great night. Let's breakdown how it began. New Year's Eve rolls around and it's the coldest it's been in years. I'm talking negatives, guys. So clearly my girlfriend and I are not going strolling through town and bar hopping. We are finding one spot and one spot only. This will be where we welcome the New Year. So I open up and Yelp and look for bars around the East Village, hoping to find a newish place that won't be too crowded. Lucky had a sign on their page that said Muggles weren't allowed so obviously they won me over. We roll in and NYC is oddly quiet this night. Most people are probably celebrating at home because of how bitter it was. The bar has a few people in it and we find seats at the bar and begin to drink the night away. I'm pumping dollar after dollar into the jukebox because this wonderful machine has salvaged the greatest hits from bars long since gone from the neighborhood. I'm timing it so that Pump It Up by Costello rolls on at midnight exactly and folks, it sure as hell did. Now I'm a big guy who can handle his liquor, so you might wonder why I proceeded to have one of the worst hangovers of my life. Well, Abby is pouring champagne out for everyone as you do on NYE and she's out of flutes. I, however, had just finished my beer and say she can pour me some in there. She did. She poured the pint glass full of champagne and I drank it up. My girlfriend is a little bit of a lightweight and she's also very drunk at this point. We catch an uber home and wake up in the morning having forgotten to drink any water whatsoever. A sliver of sunlight wakes us up like it's a nuclear bomb detonating over the east river. We can't cook in this state so we find a Mexican brunch spot the next day and began our foodblog which led us on a ton of great adventures. Lucky is one of the best bars this side of St. Marks in Alphabet city. Hands down. I've never had a bad experience and everybody is freaking amazing. We've since gone back a dozen or so times from that one night, and am very happy to have found Lucky. You should be lucky you found Lucky, too.

New place just opening in the East Village. Beautiful backyard, amazing service. Once everything is up and running this will be a go-to place in the neighborhood. Beer Club came here and we had an awesome time. Can't wait to come back.

Came here with a large group of people for a friend's going away party. Called in advance and had a table in the back reserved for us. The outside is a little tight and a little buggy, but it's an extremely chill spot to hang out with some friends. They don't have any food here, but you are welcome to bring food/ have food delivered to the restaurant and eat it in the back. The drinks here are pretty cheap, especially for happy hour - where you're getting a 2 for 1 deal. You get a drink token that you can redeem for another equivalent drink (if you're nice, even past happy hour). The inside is also a little tight, but pretty nice. Everyone here seems extremely friendly and inviting. They even have the cutest dog that patrols the bar that you're free to play with. Awesome place to hang out for a chill time. Would come here again.

The friendliest bar in town. Best service, best tufted furnishings in the alphabet. I have lived In the neighborhood for 4 months and have searched far and wide for a quality local bar with some attitude and no pretentiousness. This is the spot; especially if you're looking to spot a well-behaved furry visitor ripe for the fawning.

If you want to go to a bar where the bartender is rude/miserable and refuses to do their job, which includes making mixed drinks, because it's too much work, then this is the bar for you! There are better dive bars around, if you want to do their house special (glitter shot), mix some rumchata, vodka, and toss some edible glitter. There, I saved you time, trouble and a few bucks. You're welcome.

Nice bar that can appeal to all types. The other night, I had a blast here. There a nice selection of beers and the bartender (I am drawing a blank on her name at the moment) has a nice pour for the liquors. Also, she is really nice and inviting. The only annoying thing, which manager and bartenders cannot control, is that the front of the bar very tight/cramped, which may be annoying on busy nights. Other than that I hope to return soon ... maybe on a slow night. As of December 2016, a yelp check in gets you a free shot.

Walked in here when we got tired fifteen minutes into SantaCon and was welcomed with open arms by Abby. Nice little dive bar in East Village to get away from the hecticness of everything around and had great beer & shot specials (Lone Star & Voda for $8 or Genessee & Shot for $7). Truly would come back just for Abby, she kept it real and took great care of us.

Needed a drink and little peace and quiet while visiting my parents. Came during off hours on a Monday which I prefer when there are less people. Standard no frills LES bar, has all the basics you need and an outdoor back patio area. Bartender/owner Abby was respectful and very nice in my opinion which is contrary to some of these other reviews. I grew up in the area and appreciate a good dive bar. They seem to have theme nights as well for those looking for more than just a few drinks as well. Prices are fair considering the increases in prices everywhere in this area.

Worst bar I've ever been to. Ever. Maybe there is something that folks like about the rude bartender yelling at people that gives this place such good ratings. Authentic ambiance? If you're looking for a hip community bar where bartenders treat you terribly as part of the experience, then this is your place. I went in for a drink with my friend, my friend went up to the bar to order the drinks, and he asked to close out his card, as we intended to hop over to another bar afterwards. She then yelled at him, saying that the answer is always yes when someone asks you if you want to keep the tab open. After he tried to tell her that we were only staying for a round, she left with his card and wouldn't return it to him, betting $100 that he would come back to order another round. We definitely didn't plan on staying after that. She then became upset when we did as we said we were going to do, and called my friend a douche for closing out the tab. Never ever going here and again and stressing to everyone I know to never give this place their money.
