The Biggest New Restaurant Openings in D.C., May 2025 | Eater DC

"A Peruvian poultry spot serving 24-hour marinated chicken cooked over charcoal and infused with a dozen-plus herbs, highlighted as the starring order on the menu. Sides include yuca and french fries, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes, plus wraps and salads for lighter options. Owner and nightlife vet Zach Renovátes tapped NYC-based Jasin Cadic to install ceiling chicken figurines sporting green hair, Keith Haring–influenced art, and a neon-lit logo of its rowdy namesake saddling a horseshoe." - Tierney Plumb

Gotta say - delicious place. My friend and I got the family option 1: full chicken with normal fries, yuca fries, mac and cheese, and plantains Excited for it to be close to where I live - on par with Chicken and Whiskey for the DC locals

I love Peruvian chicken, and I’m gay so I thought this would be my spot. Maybe for being gay but definitely not for the chicken. I got the whole chicken, and it was bone dry including the dark meat. The yucca was good. The vegetables were pretty soggy and the plantain was just okay.

I ordered takeout for an event. The service was excellent and the food providers responsive! My guests enjoyed the food. Four stars because it was initially difficult to reach the business. The current number on the website and on the Toast receipt does not work. I found their email by chance, and from then on they were incredibly responsive.

Imagine if Chicken & Whiskey was more of a fast food spot. But in some ways felt "fresher". Maybe just because of the lettuce and tomato. The wrap was small, and round? It was good, but for the price should've been much larger. There was very little chicken in it. The mac and cheese was straight forward southern style, no complaints but nothing special. This is a great quick option but unfortunately not a go to even though it's on my block. I'd rather walk a few more blocks for Chicken & Whiskey.

Was very excited to try Lucky Pollo and a new gay owned spot in DC. We got the half chicken, chicken salad bowl, yucca fries, mac and cheese, and sweet plantains. Unfortunately there was nothing special about the food. As you see in the other comments, I agree that it is worthwhile to go to Chicken and Whiskey instead. The chicken was fine nothing great. The salad was lack luster and basic. The yucca fries were good, sweet plantains fine, and mac and cheese was cheap. There are better places to eat on U Street. I don’t really plan to come back. Gave it 4 stars to not be a review bomb, but would realistically give this 3 stars.

This place gets a 5* from me. I'm a chicken + whisky fan and the vibes of lucky pollo was not as vibrant in my opinion, I didn't feel like eating there but I would want to sit down and eat at C+W. However when I tried the food, takeaway at home, it was good! The garden veggie side was buttery soft and not too salty, whereas C+W tends to oversalt their vegetables. Yuca fries and chicken taste wise both were on par. They can do better in terms of the sides variety but for the price and value you get, I think they're an excellent shop in the neighbourhood. Welcome lucky pollo!

Was excited to try this place as it is across the street from apartment and I love peruvian chicken. That being said the food was quite disappointing. The chicken was under-seasoned, insanely dry and lukewarm. I got two pieces of dark, which are generally not dry, but somehow they managed to do it. The yucca was fine and so was the rice, but the chicken was truly unforgivable, especially considering it was their grand opening and the place was empty. Crazy disappointing.

Chicken was amazing but sides were a disappointment. Every single one is a heavy starch, without spice. Literally not a single healthy or light vegetable. Potatoes, rice, plantains, more potatoes, and Mac-cheese. They messed up the full order, forgot to give us the right sides, forgot to give us drinks, and just couldn’t be bothered to care about anything. So much potential given the good chicken, but the rest needs an upgrade.

Yelp
Lucky Pollo is a newer Peruvian chicken place that is open late - Their menu offers quarter dark, half white or dark, or half of a chicken that comes with 2 sides; bowls, wraps, salads, family meals, and various sides (french fries, yuca fries, white rice, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and fried plantains). We came here later in the evening, and we ordered their half chicken with fried plantains and yuca fries - The chicken was fresh and piping hot, and the sides were hot out of the fryer - Don't forget their sauces for some dipping actiong! Staff are friendly, and the place was bumping with continuous flow of patrons. Note that they are closed on Mondays! +open late! +closed on Mondays +friendly service

Yelp
I discovered this Peruvian chicken spot on Instagram and decided to give it a try with a friend today. I ordered the Quarter Chicken (dark meat) with French fries, yuca, and an Inca Kola, while my friend had the Lucky Wrap and water. The food was super good, honestly better than most Peruvian chicken places I've tried around the Fairfax area. The chicken was flavorful, and the sides were fresh and delicious. In addition to the great food, the staff was super friendly and welcoming.
