Yelp
This was one of my favorite restaurants when I reviewed it for the very first time, and I consider that review one of my best reviews ever, if not my very best. I encourage you to go back and read it if you have not yet done so. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided to return to dine here today and write a follow-up review of a restaurant which I consider one of those one of a kind gems of the Star City of Roanoke.
I believe that their forte is above all their people, starting from their co-owners Hunter and JP who were the ones to come up with the idea for this brilliant establishment which has been in operation since November of 2010 and with the assistance of Head Chef Jeremy, whose culinary creative imagination comes up with seasonal menus creating culinary masterpieces out of items such as meatloaf and peanuts. I'll never forget the in-house peanut ice-cream which I had the first time I ate here. People like its bartender and co-owner Hunter who created its unique and popular cocktail The Cube, which is a blend of fresh juices and spices that pairs well with bourbon, and it's described as evolving and growing together with the spirit as it melts, and which by the way has never been on the menu but is known through word of mouth. And people like their hand picked servers who radiate quality customer service through their warmth and attention to detail. Lucky embodies high-end comfort food and craft cocktails into a truly unique dining experience.
To give a simple example of their attention to detail, when I made my reservation this time, I included a note that I wished to dine at the same table I had last time I dined there. As soon as I arrived and mentioned my reservation time, the Host welcomed me by name, informed me that unfortunately the table that I had requested had already been taken, but there was another next to the window, or I could have the one next to the one where I sat before, or even one at their special front dining room. I ended up choosing the one next to where I had dined before because it provided a special view of the main dining room and of the bar. The Host then took me to my table, placed the menus on it, and mentioned that my server Brittany would be with me shortly.
Just enough time after I had an opportunity to review the menus. A welcoming and very friendly young lady came by and introduced herself. She showed me where the Mocktails were on the menu and helped me pick the Yoda Yoda one. For dinner I went with the Restaurant Week 2025 Lucky Menu and picked as my first course and appetizer, the Rappahannock Oysters; as my second and main course, the NY Strip & Fries, and later I would pick as my third course and dessert, the Pot de Crème, a dark chocolate mousse with hubs peanuts and whipped cream.
Everything was amazingly delicious and I received extraordinary service from my Server Brittany, who came to check on me at the appropriate times, as well as the Host who also came by to see if everything was to my satisfaction. The NY Strip Steak was humongous and tender. I invite you to view my photographs that accompany this review and see for yourselves, since a picture is worth a thousand words.
Once again, I had an extraordinary dining experience in this cozy, little, restaurant. How lucky I feel to have discovered this restaurant when I did. Kirk Ave acquired a greater meaning after this. And the word Lucky acquired a greater significance. I highly recommend you take a drive over to this restaurant, alone or with family and friends. You'll discover for yourselves what the word Lucky is all about.
