"Friendly local lunch counters still exist. This small indoor/outdoor neighborhood favorite offers an assortment of sandwiches, specials, and the unusual root beer of the month. The entire space has about 30 seats and has a mid-morning two-hour rush, but after that, you'll see the space empty and waiting for you. Enjoy their Reuben or build your own breakfast burrito if you get hungry early." - Fifty & Fifty

"Open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch, this place offers up a selection of satisfying handhelds. The menu includes overstuffed sandwiches stuffed with pastrami, corned beef or tuna salad, soups and salads among some of the choices. Don’t overlook the specialty sandwiches like the Midwest crispy pork tenderloin served on a buttered bun." - Darlene Horn

Solid. Come hungry because Lucky's packs it into your order. The omlette with bacon, cheese, potatoes, onions, sour cream, a faucet and some plumbing will have you walking away satisfied. The pancake is heavy and filling if you're into that. Tasty!

I went for brunch and despite the whole area being busy due to a Padres' game, I was 2nd in line when I arrived, the staff was quite friendly, and I received my food quickly. As I went alone, I opted to sit at the counter that faces the street; where I sat had an opening instead of windows to get the cool breeze while you people watch. (They also had nice tables under shade outside.) I ordered the special, crab benedict, which was very well priced, especially considering the amount of crab and avocado it contained. The eggs were excellently poached, the hollandaise sauce was nice and tangy, and the muffin was firm, not soggy. The picture doesn't do it justice, mainly because of the red hue due to the awning. Unfortunately I only have time to come to Lucky's today (in town for work), otherwise I'd make it a point to taste more of the menu. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm in San Diego.

Google
They have a lot of really good breakfast items and some lunch items as well. Breakfast is served all day. I had the Lucky’s Burger and it is seriously the best burger in downtown San Diego. The bun was very soft, the meat was well seasoned, the lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles were all fresh and crisp. Their thousand island dressing really pulled it all together. You really can’t go wrong at Luckys, the food is great, and the service is excellent.

Google
Hands down the best breakfast burrito! The bases loaded burrito name says it all!! This place was recommended to me by my brother and it did not disappoint. It’s a big burrito, so if you’d like to share half of it, you can and it will fill you up. I will definitely return. I also liked that it is super close to the petco stadium, just feet away. That’s a plus !

We drove downtown to go to a 1pm Padres game at Petco Park and we were about an hour early. I didn't really want to go inside the park to pay 400% markups on beer and hot dogs and there are plenty of restaurants in downtown so we went to one of the closest ones: Lucky's. It was amazing to me there were a couple of empty tables outside, completely shaded. We grabbed one and went to the counter to order. There is no server or host. You order at the counter and they'll give you a number for your table when the food comes. We ordered a couple of beers (two Salty Crew Blonde Ales - which were great), the big 1/2lb cheeseburger ($16.75), a french dip (also $16.75) and a Coke ($5). Total was $54 before tax/tip. $54 won't go very far in the ballpark, so coming here was a great idea. The burger was massive (1/2lb!) and the french dip included the au jus. Both were very good. Fries were tasty too. They even brought the food out to us in to-go containers, which was very handy! Overall this place gets a thumbs up and we may stop in here again for future games.

Google
Delicious jalapeno melt! Would recommend this place for breakfast and brunch! Orange juice not so good (tasted watery?) They had indoor and outdoor seating. Order at the counter then they'll bring you the order by looking for the table number.

This is our second time coming here, while in town and we've enjoyed it both times. The first time we sat outside in 2020 and the table was very dirty, but the food was great. This last time we sat inside. I used the bathrooms and they were clean. The table was clean too. We realized there are two different menus. One was outside and the other was in, so be mindful of that. All of our food was wonderful. Service was OK. We'll come back though since the food was delightful. Stop here for breakfast, then walk around petco park. Get coffee at the French bakery near by, then head to Gaslamp souvenir shop for some great finds!

Google
Cute concept and decent sized portions at Lucky’s in East Village. There is no table service unless you count the dropping off of food you order up front prior to sitting down. I was excited to try the Jalapeño Patty Melt because I love jalapeños and I’m somewhat of a Patty Melt connoisseur. I was left disappointed by the sheer lack of jalapeños on the burger. I wish I would have taken pictures with the bread off to show how few peppers there were. There was one piece on one half and three small strips on the other. Plenty of onions though. The burger was decent sized and cooked well with a nice healthy serving of fries. My partner got the Griddle Combo and said it was decent. The pancakes were large and served with butter. The scrambled eggs were pretty basic but hot sauce helped. Sodas were four dollars which is just highway robbery and upped our bill unnecessarily. Unless your super thirsty I’d say just get some water to save yourself ten bucks. Bottom line is decent food at a no frills diner but don’t expect to be blown away.

Yelp
I came to this place over FOUR times for breakfast and lunch during my one week stay in San Diego. Food quality is great, simple and not too salty I had their breakfast burrito, breakfast bagel (tons of customizations) Had multiple sandwiches. Fries are yum. Eventually, I had to force myself to go somewhere new because I kept coming back here. Workers are polite, nice and helpful They have some nice table sit down spots outside, and some counter spaces inside. Not the best play for a sit down meal, but great for people on the go

Yelp
RIP Lucky. You put a lot of smiles on many faces over several decades and I am one of those faces. Places like yours simply don't exist anymore and losing you is a significant loss to the culture and growth of North Park. You were always the same and you will be greatly missed - truly one of a kind. Sleep well, Lucky.

Yelp
Delicious food yummy great customer service outdoor and indoor seating Amazing place to grab a bite too eat

Yelp
Fun retro, baseball atmosphere. Really friendly service with a great smile. We ordered the strawberry, chicken salad. Definitely delicious and healthy

Yelp
2.5 Stars... Looking for a nice brunch joint in my new hood, and Yelp led the way! Nice local beer selection and a great mix of brunch and lunch items... Chose the jalapeño patty melt, and was a bit disappointed. Took quite awhile to get it(my wife's sandwich was delivered 5 minutes earlier) and it was overcooked. I tried to eat it, but decided I didn't want to settle on my first visit. The second one they brought me was marginally better, and took almost 15 minutes to receive. Ambiance is updated lunch counter, service was at the counter, and prices are in line with the area, but food quality just didn't match. This joint does not make the list.

David Y.

Yelp
I would not think of San Diego as the place to get a great pulled pork sandwich, but in this case, I would be wrong! I got the pulled pork sandwich with fries! The barbecue sauce is sweet - unlike a NC style sauce - but still amazing. And the quality of the pork was excellent - no excess fat, and perfectly tender. Delicious! The food was served quickly, and the outdoor seating was wonderful, given the great weather we were having.

Lamar M.

Yelp
I got the chipotle chicken sandwich. The sandwich was delicious. The size of the sandwich was perfect.

A S.

Yelp
Place looked really cool and nice, but the food was a bit underwhelming. Food was very unseasoned and not many options on the menu. Service was great and prompt.

Gina S.

Yelp
This place has been a favorite for locals and tourists in the Gaslamp area. It is usually fairly busy, timing was just right today as I walked by on my way to the Padres game. Was able to walk right in and got a seat and the counter. This is a small location that definitely brings back nostalgic vibes. Inside, there are counters reminiscent of diners, on the sidewalk there were a few tables available for larger sizes. Loved the customer of the month wall! I ordered the Crab Benedict, it was good! The sauce was delicious and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the view from the counter. Having brunch with Hoffman and Gwynn! Go Padres!

Kris G.

Yelp
This our neighborhood breakfast spot. My go-to's are either the scrambled eggs, toast and bacon meal or the pastrami sandwhich. My friends are also big fans of the pancakes and they usually order a side pancake along witht heir eggs/toast/bacon. The service is always effient and the folks are friendly. There is some seating indoors and a few tables outside so you can dine there, but they also do a good take away business.

Yelp
Just across the street from the Padres stadium and on our way out of town, we stopped by Lucky's Lunch Counter. Order at the register and take seat at the long lunch counter or one of their many outdoor counter height tables which line the street or regular lunch tables along the building. Our family of 4 ordered a combination of breakfast and lunch options. *Me- Chipotle Chicken Sandwich 10/10. Crispy and buttery bread with a flat top grilled chicken breast that was seasoned well and had all my favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato and onion. Delicious. *Kids- old fashioned scrambled eggs with a side of hash browns. Can't go wrong! *Husband- Pulled pork sandwich. Sweet pulled pork sandwich with coke slaw and fries. We all thoroughly enjoyed our classic diner style of meals. It was cooked to order so it wasn't incredibly fast but it was worth the wait. Lovely to eat outside in the fresh air! Worth stopping by without a doubt.

Yelp
After the tour at Petco Field, we were quite hungry. Across the street was Luckys Lunch Counter. Breakfast and hot sandwiches. They have converted dining by the street. We decided on a Ruben with fries. The sandwich came out pretty quick and the fries were hot. The Ruben was delicious it just seemed to not have enough meat. Other than that I reccomend the Ruben. Close to the entry at Petco its convenient to grab a bite before or after a game.

Jennie C.

Yelp
Found this joint walking my dog early morning and tried their hotdog & fries. Well I had starbucks coffee and sandwich in my hand, but their deco and classic diner ambiance stopped me to try this place. Pros: Hotdog was so juicy and delicious! One of the best ones I've tried. Cons: trucks go by alot, loud, and sometimes disturbing. Perhpas this was because I set outside. Nonetheless, I would recommend coming here in the morning time to avoid crowd and possibly homeless.

John D.

Yelp
Delicious, prices are reasonable. Only thing that sucks is you have to pay a $1 for extra sauces. Overall, great to go to before a Padres game

Yelp
Deserves one star but we'll leave it at two today. Have eaten here in the past a few times it was always solid. Ordered 3 of the classic breakfast burritos yesterday and they were some of the worst burritos I've had so sorry. Avocado looked like a tea spoon of guacamole in the corner, bacon was light pink and rubbery, thought it was ham for a moment, and was there even any cheese in there? Wow I couldn't believe it. Brought these over to my mom and her husband in La Mesa as a treat and she was so pissed with the quality, I had hyped them up from the last time I tried one in May 2024. These burritos had zero flavor, luckily they had the chipotle sauce on the side. For $16 each plus tax and tip I definitely felt like we got the very short end of the stick. You do the math. I guess it pays to check your food before you go. All good things come to an end I suppose. Safe to say we probably won't be back to Unluckys Lunch Counter again.

Crystal B.

Yelp
A nice stroll down 5th Ave brought us to Luckys!! Not too busy for lunch we ordered and were served in 5 minutes. Portions were bigger than expected and super tasty!! The only downside is the homeless lingering. It's hard not to notice! I'd recommend eating inside as the fly's were pretty distracting while trying to eat. No fault of Luckys, great little Diner!!

Cheol K.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in the Gaslamp. Great place to come for lunch or breakfast. Basic diner style menu, where you order at the register and they bring your food to one of the tables outside or the bar seating area inside. Very reasonable prices, considering you are in the San Diego Gaslamp district. And portions are very generous. I ordered a simple egg omelet, hashbrowns, and white toast. The food came out fast and was delish! Ended up coming back for lunch another day.

Curtis G.

Yelp
Lucky's is a simple lunch counter - nothing pretentious just great food. I went there for lunch on Sunday, had a pastrami sandwich and a beer. The pastrami was tasty and hearty - it was served with a side (potato salad) and a pickle The potato salad was good (not awesome). The pickle tasted like a good kosher Dill spear (the lunch counters I went to in Chicago generally had these in crocks on the tables). The service was good too - I will definitely be back

Misha T.

Yelp
Kind of a disappointing patty melt. The beef was overcooked so it ended up kind of dry with no sauce to help it along. I spent an extra $1 for a cup of thousand island to solve for the dryness but that's not something I should have to pay extra for to save a sandwich.

Sandra L.

Yelp
I highly recommend the Reuben Sandwich ($15.50) from Lucky's! Their pastrami is the absolute best! The meat is perfectly flavored and just the right thickness, it is not paper thin like most places. I also love their sauerkraut, it compliments the entire sandwich so well! I did pay extra for grilled jalapenos ($1) and added fresh tomatoes for free. I recommend the grilled jalapenos and forgo the fresh tomatoes. I also recommend getting the sandwich grilled because they do it really well here. This sandwich was enough to share with another person and it comes with a free side so I think that the price is justified. There is parking right at 6th and K Parkade garage, but you have to pay and they do not validate. However, if you're at the Petco Park or Gaslamp looking for great sandwiches, Lucky's is the place to go!

Clay S.

Yelp
This was a delightful surprise. An outstanding pastrami sandwich and the nicest people behind the counter. I don't leave reviews very often and my visit was last week while I was at a conference yeah I remembered to leave a review when I got back to my home. This place is close enough to the conference center in hotels and is worth the walk. Outside seating was a bonus.

Christy C.

Yelp
Placed a to go order and I didn't check before I left. Corned beef on rye with deli mustard only, no lettuce, tomatoes, onion, pickle or mayo. Verbatim order. Loaded with more lettuce, tomato and pickle than corned beef, and smothered with mayo is what I received. I despise the taste of pickles and mayo on corned beef so unfortunately really ruined sandwich for me completely. Have been here before and enjoyed so I'll give it another chance but I'll try to remember to check first if I've ordered to go.

Latasha H.

Yelp
Nice, clean lunch spot! Plenty of indoor and outdoor dining. Pet friendly. Within walking distance of petco park. We ordered the hamburger comes with fries and a club sandwich comes with fries as well but switched it for kettle chips. All sandwiches served with a side. The kettle chips taste homemade and fresh. They also serve breakfast and have a create your own salad/sandwich option. A little pricey but good portions, fresh quality ingredients and made with love. Minimal street parking available.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Quick, easy and good. I had a few minutes to grab lunch and could only go a short distance away from the convention center. This is a small diner style eatery with counter style eating and some outdoor tables. I opted for a special - Chicago style hot dog. It was tasty. I combined it with a cold Topo Chico and some crispy fries. Solid lunch! Service was quick and friendly. I hit it before the crowd came but they still seemed pretty efficient.

Terri P.

Yelp
Very nice staff. Cute establishment. Went for breakfast. I got the griddle combo. The pancakes were heavy and lacks flavor. The chicken sausage was small and not very good. Ask for extra syrup if takeout. Too expensive for below quality pancakes

Charles Y.

Yelp
I recently discovered Lucky's, how convenient, only blocks from me! I love their ham/cheese omelette/hash browns, DELICIOUS! On my previous order I ordered white toast, they gave me rye toast! Today, I made it home and discovered they forget to give me any toast, although I had asked for jelly for my toast! I called in and informed them "you forgot the toast, zilch, none"! I was told that next time you come in we'll give you toast! I'm not returning because of these little mistakes that are a big deal to paying customers, especially for takeout orders, that me! I saw no sincere or expected response from the staff. I hate those type of places that basically shrug off such mistakes, and without the slightest attempt to compensate for their forgetfulness! I WONT BE RETURNING, EVER! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, at least to me! I'm very disappointed! They should have said "we're sorry, how bout a complimentary breakfast is us"!

Jason ..

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast burritos!! We ate there twice during our vacation! Make sure you visit when in San Diego.

mike b.

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito I've ever had great service and great food we'll go again................

Aya E.

Yelp
Ordered: #7 Jalapeño Patty Melt (~$13): grilled steak burger on griddled rye with caramelized onions, jalapeños, Swiss, and cheddar cheese served with side of choice (French fries) Aya's take: Surprised at the high ratings at Lucky's given my extremely mediocre experience here. Every part of the sandwich was dry - from the burger meat to the bread. The jalapeños tasted more like green peppers and the onions were barely caramelized. The fries also lacked flavor/salt. The one pro is the fairly quick service so if you're just looking for a quick bite and something to hold you over, this spot will do.

Chris T.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the variety of options at this location. Difficult to find seating when busy around game time. Great outdoor seating on a nice day. Location next to the stadium was very convenient.

Jesse K.

Yelp
Love this place. Great selection of classic offerings from breakfast staples to Mexican options. Great place to grab a quick bite in the Gaslamp

Earl H.

Yelp
Good sandwiches and hash according to my family, but the pancakes are severely undercooked! My pancake had batter almost oozing out of it and when I opened the top flap of the pancake, I could see viscous wet batter. I came here a few months ago and the pancakes were fine.

Alexander C.

Yelp
Lucky's Lunch Counter is delicious! Here's why... Starting with Build Your Own Breakfast Burrito... Peppers, onions, sausage, cheddar cheese. Nom! Also had hash browns inside, super crispy, and the eggs oh-so fluffy! Salsa that came with it, delicious and not too spicy. Other standouts: - Turkey Club. I mean look at the pic! Hella sandwich; very satisfying! - Ruben Sandwich. Changed the bread to sourdough (sorry, I hate caraway) and it was perfect! Pastrami was so good! - French Fries! Absolutely crispy outside and fluffy inside, just how I like them. Side of thousand island and I was set! - Nitro Cold Brew Coffee on draft. Winner! Go ahead and skip: - Pulled Pork Sandwich. Sauce was way too sweet which overpowered the house smoked pork. Maybe order without the sauce? On early game days the line is out the building and for good reason, Lucky's is awesome!

Caroline Z.

Yelp
Turkey Club Sandwich A solid simple sandwich. Very filling (was 2 meals for me) and flavorful. Fries were excellent. Sourdough was yummy, maybe would be even better toasted.

Enrique G.

Yelp
Not bad... Awful I left there feeling like I had a spoonfull of SALT...! The mish mash soup was a disaster and the reuben's sandwich had some meat bunched in the middle so when they cut it in half it looks like there's a lot but actually is very skimpy.

Kierney R.

Yelp
I think this spot is totally overrated. It's a very basic, boring diner. Maybe they have better lunch but I came for breakfast, ordered a sausage breakfast burrito which came with minimal amount of eggs, cut up sausage and bland hash browns. Including something as simple as a salsa or aioli could elevate this place incredibly but doing that seems above what they are capable of. Go to Spill the Beans or Achilles coffee for better food instead.

Sandy A.

Yelp
Best bfast in East Village. They stick with the basics but do them right. I had two eggs, hash browns and one pancake. Been here multiple times. Why do I like them so much? They don't price gouge! Service is good and they have a steady stream of people but they don't push you out. You order, pay, get a number and they bring the food out to you. Only one small critique- wish my hash browns were a little warmer but the eggs and pancakes came out nice and hot. They don't serve fancy dishes, it's the basic breakfast fare but it's really good. Cute diner decor. It's right across from the ballpark. They offer diner-style lunch foods too. One of my favorite places in the neighborhood.

Kristelle B.

Yelp
High 3s/ low 4s. Cute little lunch spot near Petco park. I love how huge the serving here is. This sandwich was around $16 + you get a generous serving of side (I chose the crispy chips.) The pork tenderloin is crispy and big but I hope the sandwich itself came with some sort of an aioli or cheese. It was a little bit bland apart from the natural flavors coming from the veggies and the buttered brioche.

Farouk R.

Yelp
Great food. Got the breakfast burrito added Mushrooms yum. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Definitely gonna keep it on my list for when I'm in town again and need a quick breakfast!

Eddie C.

Yelp
2nd time here and both times the sandwiches were good The pregame meal for us were cheeseburgers. I had potato salad and wife had french fries. Several beer taos were out so I tried their Buena Cerveza which was tasty lager. Nice array of sandwiches for different palates. Short walk and I mean short to Petco Park entrance gate.

Adrianna V.

Yelp
It was good but not impressed.. We had the turkey primanti with a fried egg, a fresh oj and grape soda pop. The coleslaw was missing everything. It was a dry sandwich with dry slivers of cabbage. The oil and vinegar and herbs or seasoning were missing in the slaw. We spent about 30 on a sandwich and drinks, then asking for a little ranch cost 80 cents.. I'll pass and soak it with Tabasco and ketchup. The orange juice was really tasty. The music was fun to listen to. I didn't see hooks under the counter to hold my backpack, so I had to keep it on so it's not on the ground. The seats were awkward and made for tall people, but regardless, the sandwich should have a little sauce..

Joe D.

Yelp
Came here twice for lunch working across the street at Omni hotel... the service is ok... bring your own ranch because they charge you for a side of it. The first time I had a BLT sandwich and it was a 6/10 the second time I got the #19 "super chicken" sandwich LOL it's was horrible thin as cardboard and the fries on both meals smh all scrap bottom of the bag b.s!!! Next time I'll be ordering breakfast for lunch if I decide to come back to this place. Definitely not worth $23.24 + the tip!!!!

Joe W.

Yelp
5 stars! Burger was delivered to us on the deck. Breakfast burrito was a banger. Great place to swing in and eat.

Gene B.

Yelp
I had the breakfast burrito before heading out of town. It was really good. The perfect weather made eating outside a treat, but service was awesome too.

Steve Y.

Yelp
Love this place! Today, Corned Beef Gash and Eggs for me and a Tuna Salad Sandwich for the wife. Excellent service every time!

Gena S.

Yelp
This place was SUPER clean. We don't usually like to eat in view of the kitchen, but it was immaculate. Even the glass separating the kitchen from the lunch counter was pristine! Staff was very friendly, and breakfast was delicious. We loved it and would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the Gaslamp District. It was super close to our hotel, Msrgaritaville.

Steven H.

Yelp
Lucky Lunch Corner is located Dowtown San Diego in the Ball Park district and is adjacent to Petco Park. They are open daily from 7am to 3pm serving some up the finest cook to order breakfast and sandwiches while having specials throughout the day. Ordering is made simple here by simply placing your order at the front with the cashier and you will receive a number you put at your table. After that you can just sit back and enjoy the beautiful views of Downtown San Diego by facing the street, or dining outside at one of the many dining tables provided. I went ahead and ordered the chicken. Fried chicken which is a hand battered chicken breast smothered in sausage gravy. It also come with hashbrowns and 2 eggs anyway you like and I chose 2 medium. Two slices of any kind of toast is also provided so I chose sourdough. The dish came out looking stunning and all I wanted to do was devour it! The chicken was huge and golden fried brown to perfection! It was so juicy and packed with flavor I even forgot it was a breast. The creamy sausage gravy complimented the dish perfectly while dipping the fried chicken in the gravy made everything taste better. The star of the show was the 2 medium eggs with the yolk oozing out and combining the hashbrowns, chicken, and gravy all in a one piece bite. I ended up getting the sourdough bread using is like a sponge to clean up the plate leaving it nice and clean. I'm looking forward to come back and try the pastrami sandwich or more breakfast items in this lovely establishment. The staff was incredibly nice while the food knocked it out of the park. The prices are very reasonable for the location and not to forget their huge portions!
