"A kind of hidden local’s spot for classic steakhouse vibes, Lucky’s serves a reliable, well-portioned array of grilled chops with all the standard accompaniments (think mashed potatoes or hash browns with gruyere cheese, creamed spinach, broccolini, skinny fried onion rings, and more) in a more tucked-away location compared to the flashy Mastro’s Ocean Club; appetizers like golden matzoh ball soup and chili take the menu from too-predictable territory. Expect strong martinis, attentive service, and a more family-friendly vibe." - Eater Staff
"Lucky’s is an upscale steakhouse in the Malibu Country Mart that originated in the A-Lister commune known as Montecito. Though this location lacks Oprah and Meghan Markle sightings, the crowd milling around the dining room will keep you entertained. You’ll spot locals sipping martinis and intentionally placing their hands so everyone can see their jewelry and surfers who didn’t even bother changing out of their board shorts. That said, Lucky’s is more than a people-watching sideshow—the food is good too. We recommend doing your best not to fill up on their excellent table rolls, starting with the shrimp and prosciutto chopped salad, and going for whatever big piece of meat catches your eye." - brant cox, sylvio martins
"A nice change-up from the various surf and turf spots you'll find along the Malibu coastline, this fancy spot inside the Country Mart comes to us from SoCal’s other A-Lister commune, Montecito, and though you probably won’t spot Oprah and Meghan Markle here, the well-heeled crowd still arrives to impress. Locals sip martinis and intentionally place their hands so everyone can see their jewelry. Modern-day socialites making grand entrances. Lucky’s is more than just a people-watching sideshow, though—the mostly meat-and-potatoes menu is good, too." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park
"The Montecito steakhouse that opened in Malibu in 2020 inside the Malibu Country Mart has been closed since the Palisades Fire because a break in the main gas line south of the development left the team unable to operate. Director of operations Larry Nobles says, "We can’t operate, and the utilities told us it could be seven to 10 days from last Friday for the gas to come back on. We’re just holding tight and playing it day by day." Power has been intermittent but lights were on in the building at the time of reporting. To feed the community and first responders while utilities are down, the team has been renting flattops and grills to make burgers and sandwiches, accepting donations rather than trying to make money. "We specialize in feeding people; we’re trying to get some normalcy. It’s so awful and devastating; so many people have lost everything," Nobles says. Acknowledging past wildfire and mudslide recovery in Montecito, he adds, "We know it’s going to be a long struggle. We want to keep our employees working; our goal is to just keep moving, and don’t stop moving." - Rebecca Roland
"Lucky’s is an upscale steakhouse in Malibu that originated in SoCal’s other A-Lister commune, Montecito. Though this location offers less Oprah and Meghan Markle sightings, the crowd milling around is certainly going to be recognizable. Expect Real Housewives sipping martinis and intentionally placing their hands so everyone can see their jewelry, and surfers who have two Oscars at home strutting around in board shorts. That said, Lucky’s is more than just a people-watching sideshow—the food is good, too. Do your best to not fill up on their excellent table rolls, start with the shrimp and prosciutto-filled chopped salad, and splurge on whatever big piece of meat catches your eye." - brant cox
