The Mulefoot Gastropub Is Transitioning Into a Casual Tavern | Eater Detroit

"Preparing to relocate, The Mulefoot Gastropub will host its final Imlay City service on Saturday, April 28 as the owners plan to move their hit destination restaurant closer to metro Detroit within the next year. Known as a higher-end, special-occasion spot with prices that averaged around $50 per person, The Mulefoot eliminated tipping last summer in favor of a service charge to provide employees consistent pay, healthcare, and a 401(k); the owners report the change has worked well even in slow months." - Brenna Houck

We were recommended to try Lucky’s from a local, unfortunately the experience was not the greatest. Before I continue, the manager was extremely polite and understanding, she tried her best to help what was considered one of the worst steaks I’ve had. I ordered a filet mignon, medium rare. I asked the waitress if they were capable of hitting medium rare since it tends to be a little tricky for some. The reply was optimistic. The wait was considerably long(35min) given the restaurant was not packed at the time. Maybe 3 tables in the whole dining room and they had already eaten. So out comes my steak, and let’s just say, plate presentation was lacking and the asparagus were submerged in some sweet tasting sauce. The filet was not cooked correctly, medium well. I explained to the waitress it was overcooked and it did not have a hard sear like I requested. The waitress returned the over cooked steak left my asparagus, 15 minutes later, it appears to be swimming in red juice! Obviously due to the hue of the red juice I knew it was raw. I cut it open, and confirmed my initial observation! By this time my wife and son had already finished their meal. The waitress came back and apologized, no suggestion on involving the manager nor any attempts to correct the problem. I requested the manager, explained my experience and the issue was resolved. Left on an empty stomach.

My wife and I came her with our beautiful friends Tom Kelley on 10.18.25. We had a great time and a wonderful dinner. Our waitress Jessica H was really cool and funny.

Google
Seating is very close together and often you are bumped by ppl or groups of people walking by. Less than average flavors on our food. Although portons were decent size, most of the meals were not prepared properly or completely cooked. The wait staff was busy and overwhelmed helping larger parties. Nothing really unique or memorable for stands out from this visit. Not likely to recommend.

Google
Luckys is luckys. The food is good, not great. The sandwich I got was haphazardly put together. Any dish with a cream sauce will be drowning. The staff is very nice and friendly, the bread provided is excellent. Soups are delicious. They are great menu options.

Google
Went out for dinner. It wasn't very busy plenty of tables open. Our party ordered a variety of meals. Steak, Mahi, burger, shrimp and Mac and cheese. The burger was mediocre in my opinion didn't taste super great. The steak was partially cold (not sure how that can happen) the veggies that were on the side looked like canned veggies. French fries were cold. Mac cheese had no cheese flavor. Mahi tasted like a piece of chicken. We are very used to eating mahi and know what it should taste like and that wasn't it. We haven't been here for a couple years due to the food being not that great. Then we thought to give it another try and same thing. Our waitress was good and efficient but the food was just mediocre at best. We brought the rest of our food home and gave it to our barn cats. Definitely won't be returning.

Google
First time here and it was outstanding! Food, staff/servers and atmosphere was amazing. Avg bill was $25-35 pp but worth it!! It was pretty busy for 3pm on a Saturday but so glad we chose that time instead of later and having to wait to get a table. Fresh bread served at every table was yummy, The gorgonzola ribeye, wedge salad, stuffed mushrooms and flatbread apps were a hit in our group. We will be back again soon. (Leftovers were amazing reheated too). Make sure to add this location to your list to visit.

Google
Usually excellent but not so great today. Our overcooked steaks (asked for medium, but had almost zero pink) was the least of our concerns. Check out these pictures of not fresh lettuce we had to remove from a salad, and some silverware with enough baked on debris, there's actually a fingerprint in it. 🤢

Google
I had to return my prime rib twice. Extremely well done the knife couldn't cut the meat. The baked potato was half baked. The salad was barely anything to call a salad. I ended up not paying for my meal.I ended up not eating it. I was extremely disappointed in my one and only time I went to lucky's.

Yelp
Food was excellent, the service was good and there was no wait time to get a table. Other than that we have no complaints. We always go there to celebrate birthdays. I love the crab meat stuffed Grouper. The place was hopping as usual

Patricia H.

Yelp
Ordered the stuffed grouper which was undercooked. Sent it back. For the stuffed salmon. It took awhile and in the meantime the potato was cold asked for some sort of reimbursement. Was denied. Really, not even a free drink? Ruined the whole experience.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed our visit here a couple weeks ago. Our server was excellent, very friendly. The calamari came with a really interesting but good lemon butter sauce and the calamari was nice and tender. I loved that they had potatoes au gratin as a side since kind of an old school side but they were delicious. I did think the zip sauce on the medallions was a touch salty. The shrimp were perfect and honestly pretty cheap for the quality of shrimp. Honestly one of the best things is the amount and quality of food you get is excellent.

Yelp
This trip to Lucky's was very disappointing. This has normally been our annual go-to for our anniversary dinner for a fantastic experience. Experience was downhill this year. Dinner we had tonight was just plain sad. We arrived at 3:30, because the restaurant can get pretty crowded later in the evening. Despite the fact that the restaurant was barely 20% full, our waiter was rushing us to the point where I was starting to get anxious. He was pacing and jumping and wouldn't stand still to even take our order. The table against the wall got three loaves of bread. We got none, and I finally asked halfway through dinner if we could get a loaf of bread and he was noticeably annoyed about that, and made excuses that he was waiting for fresh bread, as he was rushing by our table. My filet medallions were good, but the mashed potatoes were way too salty, to the point that I would have sent them back and gotten something else, but since our waiter was MIA, I just didn't eat them. I wanted to get some horseradish sauce, but our waiter would say "everything ok here?" as he was walking past, and never stopped to hear our answer. My husband's sirloin was good. Waiter brought the check and take out boxes while we were taking our last bites. We were definitely vibed with "get out of here" as opposed to "would you like coffee and dessert?" So much for an anniversary celebration. It's ok, Blakes Cider was just south of Almont. We celebrated with cider and donuts instead.

Yelp
We've gone to Luckys for many many years, we went to this one a month ago, (very, very mediocre) we went to the one in Gaylord a few days, horrible. I don't know what's happened to a place that used to always be consistently good. I will only go back for bread soup and salad now. Very very disappointing.

patti ..

Yelp
Went to this Luckys for x-mas dinner with my family, super service, thank you Robin M., great appetizers, 5 out of 6 meals were good, however, worst Prime Rib at $21.99, I've ever had. Not only was it grey in color, it was tough as leather, served with plenty of fat and grizzle. Never again. For a steak house that prides themselves on their Prime Rib, again, worst ever. I spent over $200.00 there for the last time. I would have sent it back, but our fantastic waitress was so busy and the place was packed, kitchen was slow, we felt sorry for her and by the i got my meal, my family would have been ready to leave. SAD.

Mike S.

Yelp
She brought my appetizer the same time as my dinner Said appetizer running late then why didn't they back up my dinner and it sure looks like that porterhouse steak got thinner then I remember not real happy with my visit

Yelp
This used to be a great restaurant. I don't know what happened. My wife and I went there the other night to get a steak dinner. We hadn't been there for years and we were anxious to relive the good food and service that we remembered. Well, that didn't work out. The waitress was great but the food not so much. The steaks we had were tough and bloody not medium well like we wanted and the silver ware was filthy, we had for sets exchanged before we got a clean set. If it stays like that I will not be back.

Kristie Z.

Yelp
First time eating at Lucky's and it was better than I expected. The restaurant was clean and the food was good and served hot. Service was friendly but a bit slow. The bread that was brought to the table was really good and nice and warm. We ordered prime rib with sweet potato, the Maryland chicken with brussel sprouts, and the gnocchi carbonara. We also got salad, potato soup and French onion soup. All of the food was good and with generous portions. The only disappointment was the brussel sprouts. They were a bit too charred in spots carrying a burnt flavor into the sprouts. Brussels sprouts are great when they're crisp but some of these were burnt. Everything else that we got was cooked well though. It was a busy day, so I'm not sure if that's why our food/service was a little slow but it seemed to take a while to get our food. We weren't in a rush though so it wasn't a big deal for our group. We'd definitely try Lucky's again.

Yelp
Breads always good, but unbelievably rude service. Like terrible. It was giving mean girls. So one star

Yelp
I've been to Lucky's Steakhouse multiple times and this time was very different...in a bad way. I placed my order online for a ribeye steak dinner along with a bowl of baked potato soup. I arrived on time to pick up my order but it wasn't ready yet. No big deal. One of the hostesses went to check on it. She came back and told me they had run out of baked potatoes. Very odd for a steakhouse. So I went with the mashed potatoes. She came back AGAIN and told me they were also out of the baked potato soup. She asked if I wanted another loaf of bread or another salad. As the meal was only for me, I asked for a refund. (I'm waiting to confirm I will receive the credit on my credit card.) Another ten minutes and I received my food. I came home and started with the salad. It had some brown pieces, which was bad. I asked the steak to be cooked medium and it was heavily bleeding. Had to cook it more myself. This was a disappointment all around. It may be a while before I visit Lucky's again.

Yelp
I had pork chops with asparagus the asparagus was rubber like it may have been microwaved , my pork chops were overcooked like shoe leather.. service was ok, not stellar. A friend had the stuffed grouper which was very good.. this is strike 3 for me. Gave it a few tries with disappointing results each time.

Yelp
Steak is steak. Not at Lucky's. This facility was well prepped to handle any steak needed. Service with a smile and a clean atmosphere.
google avatar

Veletta M.

Yelp
My steak was red and I asked for well done, the waitress took it back he only cooked the end. Cut into steak again, still very red, blood was dripping. Baked potato was not cooked through and green beans were not cooked throughly. Bad meal all around. Waitress didn't offer any discount.Took steak home to cook it the way I like it. Not returning.

Yelp
We have been coming to Luckys for many years. I'm not sure when things changed but the service and food just isn't the same anymore. Tonight's meal was accompanied by fruit flies, and regular flys. I also understand dimming the lights but it was too dark to even see my raw steak. My wife's steak was also undercooked even after being sent back. Our server asked if there were any issues and I finally did say that my prime rib was undercooked. She didn't seem to care. I asked for a box so I could cook it tomorrow. She let me know that she likes to have it with eggs for her leftovers. She missed the point. Just not the same as it used to be. Thanks Jessica!

Yelp
It is unfortunate that I am writing this review. Lucky's Steakhouse, Lucky's Blind Fish Grill are 2 of my favorite restaurants. I really liked Lucky's steakhouse, however my salad was simply awful last night. I ordered Lucky's Steakhouse salad. The lettuce was ok, but I should have known something was wrong when the waitress did not ask me how I would have like my steak cooked for the Steakhouse salad. The issue was the steak. The steak was cooked the way I asked but the meat was chewy, and gristly; simply inedible. The steakhouse salad comes with 8 oz of steak "cooked to order". I may have been able to eat my 4 oz of that. I should have sent it back. I won't be recommending Lucky's Steakhouse, in Imlay City, MI if you want a steak salad. Very disappointed

Yelp
I love the food here and we have visitors several times but the hostess screaming table names literally at the top of her lungs made our last experience here very UNPLEASANT! Why take my phone number if you are going to have your staff scream while people are trying to enjoy their meal.

Jody B.

Yelp
A regular at Lucky's in Imlay City. My ribeye was delicious and Mandy and Brianna my bartenders were super friendly. They handle difficult customers like professionals and are alway courteous. Lucky's Steakhouse is lucky to have them! Jody B

Yelp
Outstanding place, food and atmosphere are always good. Service has always been exceptional. Downside, places, busy. But well worth the wait.

Cliff G.

Yelp
Horrible service horrible attitudes manager was awful food was awful. Very unhelpful, understaffed rude, rude rude. I can't believe this place can stay in business. Both lucky Steakhouse is blindfish Grill and Luckys Mexican restaurant all horrible places to eat.

Lindee M.

Yelp
The bread!!! So fresh and garlicky, phenomenal!!!! The French onion soup was piping hot and so cheesy. Crab&Shrimp stuffed salmon was well prepared, not overdone at all. The side of Brussels were great, perhaps a tad underdone but very crunchy so I enjoyed them. Huge rack of ribs and my daughter thought "the best mac&ch of her life"! Cheryl was a great server and she even brought the crew out to sing happy birthday to our birthday girl!! Classic steakhouse vibes, played contemporary music, nice and clean!!
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
The atmosphere is a little loud but still feels private. Very welcoming staff and servers. I was well taken care of. The food was delicious. I will be back to try more. Some of the best was the bread, potato soup, shrimp and fettuccine Alfredo.

Yelp
I've frequented Lucky's Steakhouses all over Michigan and I always have a great meal. From prime rib to buffalo chicken salad the portions and flavors are excellent. Their homemade bread is complimentary and always fresh. If you haven't tried their homemade cheesecake it's a 100/10 must try item. Service at every location I've been to has been prompt and friendly. Each restaurant has a similar atmosphere. A nice spot for a celebratory dinner but casual enough for lunch as well.

Alex R.

Yelp
Weirdest restaurant I have ever gone to, their specialties include steak, lobster pasta, and chicken tenders, which is weird enough on its own, but then you get a pizza seasoned bread loaf to start out. Also the decorations are half fancy half casual, there's an Indian statue and also a Godfather type picture. The food was good though, very good fries. They have a lot of types of potato. The booths are big and the options are a lot so probably a good place for a picky group.

Yelp
We haven't been to Lucky's in a while. After this experience, we will be changing that. I had one of the best meals I've had in a while. Of course it's a steakhouse so you'd expect good steaks but this was up there as one of the best. The Big Ribeye as the menu states is 22 oz of deliciousness and it's only $26.99! That's a steal. Plus a salad and a side. It'd be hard to make it at home for that price! We actually went on Valentine's Day. Well, after a short wait, we received fast and attentive service. They were ready for the crowd. The restaurant itself was clean and seating area wasn't too packed in, made for a nice evening. Looking forward to going back.

Grayson R.

Yelp
Very great service very good steak. I recommend the New York steak and the Raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing was the bomb!

Joseph D.

Yelp
I tried to remove a previous review that sang the praises of Lucky's, but yelp removed the wrong one. I was very disappointed. We always look forward to going there, even though it is an hour drive. The most recent visit was not good. Ordered Med rare, got well done, potato was cold and overcooked. Never thought this would happen at Lucky's. I know better than to complain about food in a restaurant, you never want to aggravate people who are handling your food.
google avatar

Jack H.

Yelp
This is a review on purely the cucumbers. 4.5 outta 5, perfect combo of crunchy and soft, only reason it's not a perfect 5 stars is because I can't eat an entire cucumber.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Food is overrated. Only thing good here is the salad and loaded potato soup, don't understand why the place is always packed. We cook better steaks and ribs at home, every steak and rack of ribs we've gotten from here have had no flavor.

Linda D.

Yelp
Seating was sooner then expected for Father's Day, which was the best part about the entire dining experience. The service was super slow. The restaurant wasn't as crowded as Ive seen it before, so I dont know what was up with that. The drinks took a long time to come to the table, my husband's beer came about 10 minutes after everyone else had received their drinks. They were out of the chicken tortilla soup, so they brought my son a salad. There were no utensils on our table. we had to ask a different server to bring the utensils and she gave us a lot of attitude. The food took a long time to come to the table and when we got it, it wasn't even warm. I asked the waitress about it and she said it wasn't her fault that this is something the manager gets ready. Ive waited tables, as a waitress you look out for your food. Not an Im sorry for the experience or anything like that... until the check came. Then she apologized for the experience, etc. The quality of the food has been going down the last few times we have been there. Being served somewhat warm entrees, a warm steak to boot, was the last straw. I dont know who runs the place but it wasnt like it was. I dont mind the smaller portions for the same price so long as the food is good. It wasnt at all good. Two thumbs down, I even wish I had more thumbs right now.
google avatar

Sara Annela T.

Yelp
A delicious and affordable steakhouse! Everything was so tasty. Be careful though because the portions are huge so unless you have a large party to share appetizers, your main meal comes with plenty of sides. It gets busy around 5 so if you can, get there earlier around 4 to beat the rush.

vin m.

Yelp
I'm pretty shocked at those bad reviews but I can only speak for myself. Our meal was perfect, everything was cooked right, and our server I think Landon, sorry to call him out by name, but he was very attentive and really took care of us. I will definitely go back. And I'm still thinking about my ribeye, wondering when I'll have a chance to go back! Very fair prices too.

Wilma S.

Yelp
Always enjoy! Prime rib so delicious! Service always so great! We love the bread that comes with it!

Yelp
So mixed reviews from us on Lucky's... we were quoted a 30 min wait and our table was ready right at the 30 min mark. Our server was good, no complaints. The bread was served warm and was good. The ceasar salad and dressing were good. We ordered two filets. One was cooked at the correct temp & one was not. Medium was fine, med-well was well-done. They were also super super salty! Other than that, I can't really comment on the taste because I couldn't eat it...I actually took mine home and "rinsed off" the salt. The mashed potatoes were instant, and not very good instant. The fettuccine alfredo was fine, nothing exceptional. We were expecting more based on recommendations, and we were disappointed. As for atmospheric, it was loud from all patrons. It is definitely a family restaurant and we went when they were busy, but I prefer a quieter setting...

Patti H.

Yelp
Loved my old fashion Loved my bartender/ waitstaff Lobster/steak amazing and inexpensive . Wish we had This restaurant near me!

Jessica N.

Yelp
Love Luckys. Great portions for great prices. We skip the dining in and get carryout, which always takes a little longer then they tell you, but that's okay!
google avatar

Gerald D.

Yelp
Ordered TBone steak with Brussels Sprouts. Steak was very tough stringy and full of gristle. It was was thin and not cooked the way I ordered it. Med Rare. Sprouts were not edible at all. They were baked to the point of being totally crispy and died clear through. Small side salad was not bad . Last time I was there the food was better but the waitress stole my credit card number. I guess I'm done going to Luckys

Bill D.

Yelp
So I have been coming here for about 15 yrs. Last yr has been pretty bad. Last nite basically ended it. Waited 10 min for waitress just to come to table. Then it took over 30 min to get food which of course was ice cold. Asked to speak to mgr to cash in gift card..... no way I would come back after 3 bad experiences in a row. The owner told her no refunds and now I'm stuck with a $100 useless piece of plastic. I highly recommend going anywhere else but Lucky's unless you like poor service and cold food. Supposedly "Nicole", the owners daugher has taken over which explains all the reviews of long-time customers saying how the place has gone downhill.

Sharon K.

Yelp
We were in this afternoon at midland lucky . Yes it was mother's day. The food was excellent we all enjoyed our food . And our server Kyle was very nice and professional. Enjoyed him Thank you for the wonderful experience it made our mothers day..

BriAnn K.

Yelp
Will get carry out from here again. The fish tacos were huge, cooked perfectly, and very flavorful. The appetizer tray was really good as well. I loved the onion rings, fries, and chicken tenders. I wish I had a side of ranch but everything else was perfect. We were quoted 45 minutes on this order for New Years. We came after an hour and everything was perfect.
google avatar

Lora C.

Yelp
A perfect place to go for a casual date night or to bring a family to. Prices are so reasonable and portion sizes are huge. Be prepared to wait though! Coming from Clinton township it's quite a drive, but 100% worth it

Morgan M.

Yelp
My rib was way over done and salty - had to send it back - daughter sirloin was under cooked - the appetizer came out late - we waited a hour in line (in our car) cause there was no room inside to sit and wait - got seated and it was so loud - like eating in a cafeteria - mashed potatoes were bland - baked potato was good & so was the bread. The waitress was awesome though, but the food wasnt worth the price we paid and neither was the wait - wont be eating there again.

Mariya S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went out to Lucky's last night and not only were we pleased but we were absolutely stuffed ! Our waitress was super sweet and on the ball throughout the entire night, and we were sitting on the bar side, which seems to be a hopping place. I got the top cut sirloin and my boyfriend the medallions, and we were both pleased and shot at how big the portions were. Both of our meals were delicious and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back again soon !

Yelp
We have been here many times. With and without our children, date nights, and with family. The food and service are always great. Everyone always loves the free breadsticks. They have a great drink/wine selection and also a great kids menu. We come here whenever we are in the area to do so.

Yelp
After my last visit, I was definitely NEVER considering coming here again. The food is good; but the service LACKS in soooo many different aspects. This visit, the experience was completely opposite. I ordered the calamari with broccoli (last time I had this, it was actually delicious, so I thought I couldn't go wrong getting it again.) When the calamari came out, I was instantly disappointed. There was little to no sauce on it like there should have been and I the calamari strips were horrible quality, definitely weren't cooked well, and lacked flavor. The broccoli was good, and I believe it was fresh, but I was upset I only got 4 pieces. After the horrible dinner, we did have the brownie sundae which was absolutely delicious and gigantic! If it wasn't for our waitress (Mandy) I would be giving this restaurant a 1 star. They never improve on quality and there's always something worth complaining about. Mandy saved our experience by being a genuinely considerate waitress. She was polite and even made me laugh a couple times and gave us a dessert on the house-- it was appreciated. Overall, this steakhouse is probably a diamond in the rough out in Imlay City, but it has no shine in my eyes.

Jenna C.

Yelp
The best way to describe our experience is "purely 3 stars." We were quoted 20-30 minutes and I'm confident we waited just that long. Once we got sat, our waiter came over to drop off bread and take our drink orders. He returned after quite a while (the bread was basically finished) with the waters. We ordered, and our food took forever. Granted, we found out that someone had walked out that night and actually our server was helping them in the back with cooking. Some grace was definitely given there. I ordered the prime rib with stuffed shrimp and a side of mac n' cheese and caesar salad. My wife got the top sirloin with green beans and loaded potato soup. My side caesar salad was completely underwhelming. It appeared almost as they had just used the end of a bag of lettuce and called it a day. Not to mention, the croutons were literally crumbles that you might throw away at home. I watched as other caesar salads came out, wondering if they were entree sized compared to mine (they weren't). Overall, flavor of the salad was good, so oh well. The loaded potato soup was good as well! Our entrees came, and the steaks were cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. I noticed about 3 bites in that I was given mashed potatoes instead of the mac n' cheese I ordered. It tripped me out because I had been debating which one to get, and so it sort of gaslit me into thinking nothing was wrong. Because of this, I didn't mention it to the server. The worst part of everything was that my stuffed shrimp were undercooked. Because they were stuffed, I really couldn't tell this until I took my first bite and the gummy texture of the raw shellfish hit my mouth. I checked the rest of the shrimp underneath the crab cake mixture on top to find shrimp that were grey and undercooked. I let the waiter know and just asked they be taken off my bill given the bite I did take just didn't sit right with me. He was generous enough to take off not just the $4 the shrimp cost, but $7. Moral of the story, if we come back, we might just stick to steak.
google avatar

Dale L.

Yelp
We have always loved Lucky's dinners and again this time everything was good except I got a loaded baked potato where a quarter of it was black green and obviously rotten. I don't understand how a cook could not have seen a bad potato when it was a loaded bake potato where they had to dig out the center to mix in the cheese and bacon. I mistakenly took a bite of the potato thinking it was just burned and I lost my appetite after that. They refunded me "$5 off the bill for the baked potato." I told them I didn't think that was acceptable considering it ruined my dinner. Oh well live and learn.
google avatar

Ron M.

Yelp
I always order a Caesar salad no ceaser dressing add balsamic. Add tomatoe and sliced raw mushrooms With extra croutons. The croutons are home made and they taste phenomenal! Whenever I order to-go, they're very patient on the phone with me.

Yelp
Normally, we rave about this place. However, the service & quality seemed to be hit or miss on our last visit. We ordered the calamari appetizer and then both specials from the board.....prime rib & crab-stuffed shrimp and T-bone & coconut shrimp. We both ordered French onion soup. The bread and soup came out first before the calamari. We finished that course and then about 10 minutes later, they brought the appetizer. About 45 seconds later, our entrees arrived. The server apologized for the late appetizer but said she'd rather bring our entrees out while they were warm. My prime rib was tender & cooked to perfection but the stuffed shrimp had a ton of bread-crumbs and very little crab in the stuffing. My husbands T-bone was overcooked, not as ordered (Med-Rare) and it was tough.....far tougher than any other steaks we've gotten there. Also, his coconut shrimp was grossly over-breaded. I'll call this a possible off day and will go there again to give them another chance.
