And just like that, Essence Restaurant Group (owner of Grove, Green Well, and Bistro Bella Vita) knocks it out of the park once again. They've got the best Italian in town. The best fine dining in town. The best lunch spot in town. And now, they're quickly cornering the best breakfast spot in town.
Right off the bat, I'll say the ONLY aspect of Lucy's holding it back as a breakfast restaurant is the ambiance. I feel like I'm eating in a well decorated garage - concrete floors, cold industrial ceilings, and so much crowd echo that I could NEVER come here hungover (which, in my opinion, makes up approximately 65% of patrons for all breakfast joints). Breakfast has been, for me and many others, a comfort experience, which I think Lucy's might be lacking just a touch.
Aside from that however, the food is delicious. . Breakfast is such an easy meal to prepare that I think a lot of restaurants kind of take eggs, potatoes and toast for granted. Not Lucy's. It's well crafted and seasoned head to toe. A tad pricy in my humble opinion, but you're getting a damn good (and damn well portioned) breakfast at one of the hottest joints in town.
Everything is house made, which is to be expected from an Essence restaurant. And I mean Everything. The bread. The jam. The addicting bechamel sauce that goes well with every dish (order a side of it if it doesn't come on your plate and thank me later).
Give Lucy's a shot if you're looking for the next level of breakfast food, and they're sure to deliver. Pro tip - get on the waitlist, as the place QUICKLY fills up after 10:00 on the weekends.
