Best Texas Restaurants on the Drive Between Austin and Houston | Eater Austin

"This Sealy restaurant’s great because it’s got pies, burgers, meaty entrees, and the Argentinian sandwich choripan (made with chorizo). Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor dine-in services." - Nadia Chaudhury

We travel only to breakfast at Lucys. I asked if they have alternative milk and no. I asked for a natural or homemade orange juice and no. So I order the same I can take at my house a green tea. And then they come back to told me it was sold out. So I end ordering a latte with 3 lactose pills . Food was taste but I think it could be bigger. Then we order the lemon pie, but it was also sold out and the new one was too hot to ate. Love the idea with the crayons for kids

An excellent and much needed addition to the Sealy dining scene. I grew up in Sealy and remember when this was the City Cafe. The owners of Lucy’s (from Ecuador) have tastefully updated the space with a nod to the past (they restored the original counter bar seats). Our favorite dishes we’ve tried are the artichoke appetizer, bean dip/chips, all variations of burgers and of course the homemade PIE. We live in Austin but look forward to our next visit to Lucy’s!

Came in from out of town and had dinner with my brother and his wife. They had heard of her restaurant with great reviews. We ordered salmon with sides and salads. Food was exceptional. Seasoned and cooked to taste. We had Laura as our server. She was very attentive to our table and very well versed with the menu . Great customer service. Thank you Delicious desserts followed. Would highly recommend this restaurant which covers a wide variety of choices . Something for everyone . Thanks again. Keith Cooper

This place is perfect! What a nice surprise in a sleepy little town. From decor to service to food, the attention to detail is obvious. House white wine is a Sancerre, awesome! Extensive bar list, very well rounded menu, fresh from scratch food. Crepes were awesome! Thank you so much, we will be back!

I’ve been hearing about this place so thought it might be worth the drive, 35 minutes, to try it with my wife. The waitress we had was either new or not very good. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was new. After reviewing the menu online, I was excited to try one of their entrees or possibly a burger. Upon arrival we were presented with a very limited lunch menu. So disappointed. No meals or burgers. I finally settled on the open faced roast beef sandwich. The only side that was offered with it was a salad. So much for what I thought would be my cheat meal this week. When the sandwich came out it had one thin slice of roast beef with cheese on each piece of bread. It tasted very good but hardly worth the price. I believe it was $14.99. The salad was a small amount of mixed greens. The website needs to be updated. Nowhere on it does it indicate such a skimpy lunch menu. The menu on the website is full of delicious sounding items. I’ll never return for lunch and not sure I’ll venture back to try it for dinner. Did I say I was disappointed? 🤦‍♂️

It's great to have another great option in Sealy, the town is making progress! The menu has a good range of options and the drinks list is extensive. The atmosphere is very comfortable with good lighting, the tables are well spaced, and the layout of the bar and pies is very nice. Service was more than excellent! The quality of the food is very very good, with quality ingredients. This was our first time but I had a good salad and tasted a bit of the burger that my wife had, all excellent. Then the deserts....excellent! A bit pricey some might say, but not much more than elsewhere and worth it in my opinion.

Yelp
Great food. We tried the lemon chicken and the steak. Both awesome!! Sides to try, Broc & cheese, Sealy rice and the salad dressing was yummo! Every item was fresh and hot! Our server was top notch, Savannah. She was polite and very efficient at serving. Of course it is a pie house, so you gotta have pie. We chose the choco peanut butter pie! Oh my goodness! Thanks for a great evening!

Yelp
I stumbled on Lucy's Pie House & Grill today while passing through Sealy. The restaurant is located in the revitalized downtown square. I would describe the location as almost a bistro vibe. It is light, bright and well done inside. Lucy's is down-home, but would fit in equally well in any upscale area in Houston, such as The Heights. They have a great menu of entrees, burgers, sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and their pies and ice cream are all homemade as well. I had a sandwich and sweet potato fries. The food was freshly prepared, tasted great and was a large portion. The entire staff were turned out nicely and as knowledgeable and friendly as could be. I live in Fulshear, but I will definitely be returning. It is well worth the drive. If you are ever in Sealy or passing through on I-10, I highly recommend you stop in at Lucy's.

Yelp
Lucy's Pie House & Grill is a comfortable beautiful space. They have a great menu with amazing options, the food was delicious and we had a cocktail that was superb. Carson took great care of us. Definitely recommend! We will be back.

Yelp
Our first time here. Carson was our server and he was so welcoming. Great food, great people, nice atmosphere and just a really nice place. We live down the road in Cat Spring TX and will return soon. Oh, and the dark chocolate pie we took home was devoured immediately.

Yelp
This is a *destination* yall Gorgeous restaurant with the best ambiance and the nicest staff ever- but the FOOD! Extensive selection of scratch made pies made daily line the countertop with just the most incredible smell wafting to greet you at the door. Peach, apple, cherry, pineapple, mixed berry, pecan, chocolate brownie, and cold cream pies as well with key lime, chocolate, so many to choose from. I had the mixed berry there which was loaded with fruit and so wonderfully jammy with a crisp crust, and I took home a peach pie (which was more akin to a cobbler pie fusion) and it was amazing. For lunch I had their burger: brisket ground in house and perfectly seasoned, on a homemade bun made that morning. This is a great stop between Houston and Austin for example to treat yourself to perfect lunch or piece of pie from the nicest folks. I really think this is the type of restaurant that should be featured on the Daytripper or Diners & Dives (super not a dive though ; )

Yelp
What a fantastic restaurant! Everything we ordered was wonderful! Portions are HUGE and we had multiple to-go containers. The baked Brie with cranberries, nuts and sweet chili sauce gets gets a big thumbs up ... nice heat without being too hot.

Yelp
I'm from out of town, was driving through, and thought I'd stop and pick up a pie to take to a luncheon. I don't have a pic of the apple pie but believe me when I said it was perfection. The crust, oh soooo flaky and the filling with the right amount of spices, not too soft and not crunchy. The whole visit was perfect, and I thank the staff for being so welcoming. If I'm passing through again, I will definitely have to enjoy a full meal. It's very cozy with an upscale yet small town vibe. Folks, just go try for yourself!

Yelp
We love eating at Lucy's. Everyone who works there is kind and hospitable, and there is always great service. The food is made from scratch and you can tell! Everything is truly delicious. We love their hamburgers and of course the pies! The restaurant is also always clean. We recommend Lucy's to everyone.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, amazing service & delicious food! So glad we found this wonderful gem downtown! We started with the brie appetizer & it had just enough sweet mixed with nuts & cranberries & a touch of red pepper flakes...so delicious! We got the black beans just because & they were amazing. The fried shrimp wedge salad with blue cheese dressing was delicious & I had to take half home because the portions were so generous. We didn't leave room for pie, but they all looked amazing and we will definitely be back to try them soon! Thank you, Lucy!

Yelp
Went to this place for the first time today. The restaurant is beautiful. The atmosphere is very nice. The food was excellent. Our hostess Patricia was wonderful. Our waitress was also very nice and helpful. We will definitely visit this restaurant more often and highly recommend it to all our friends. Oh, and the pies are to die for. We had the brownie pecan pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Delicious!

Yelp
Service was great. The food was delicious. The place is so cute and clean. Definitely worth a visit! Pies look delicious but I was too full

Yelp
This place is definitely worth a day trip drive for lunch or dinner. The best food I've had in a while. The black bean soup has a hint of dark mole along with venison/pork sausage...best ever! We had several appetizers that were so delicious. The pies are off the charts. I took several varieties to go. Charming ambience and the staff is so kind. I am looking forward to my next visit! Lots of interesting cocktails on the menu.

Yelp
I can't say anything bad. We had the sweet n spicy Brie and it was awesome. Vibes of fall. I ordered the flat iron steak and it was fabulous. My hubby had the ribs which he loved. Finished it off with dessert of berry pie. Portions are generous, even my husband had leftovers. Very cute location in downtown sealy. Our server Olivia was the best. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Lucy's Pie House and Grill on a Sunday afternoon and it was absolutely perfect! From the staff to the ambiance of the restaurant itself to the food, everything was wonderful. We will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Food was excellent, we had pork chops and ribeye. The dessert selection was so surprising, Reese's Pie!!! Out of this world. Our server Carson we loved and he made sure we were taken care of this evening. Please visit this place, you will not be disappointed. #supportlocal!

Yelp
Let me start by saying the service was top notch! We chose a table outside because I had my puppy with me but we were quickly invited to sit inside at one of their dog friendly tables. That's right, I said it, dog friendly tables!!! The service was quick and attentive, and the food was great. I had the chicken fingers (kids meal) with fries and my husband had the burger with a side of pickled beets (he was very excited to see this on the menu). The kids meal was alot of food and the fries are super good! I stole a bite of my husband burger which was also super tasty. We took home 2 slices of pie, I already tried mine which was the reeses pie and it is fantastic! Sweet but not too sweet with a good amount of salt to balance it out! The only negative I have is that it's a little pricey so we won't be able to come as often as I would like, if the prices go down we would definitely be regulars!

Yelp
This place has such a great vibe! The jalapeño black bean dip and chips were fantastic, and the fresh lemonade is a must-try. I just wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu.

Yelp
My family decided to stop at Lucy's for lunch as we were returning to Houston after a vacation in San Antonio. Despite the restaurant being very full, service was fast and excellent, and the owner checked on us herself. We loved our food, and the pies were a particular highlight. Definitely don't skip dessert here!

Yelp
We stopped in and grabbed 3 pieces of pie to go peanut butter chocolate pie which was actually really delicious. passion fruit which was okay but not great and banana cream. the banana cream when i opened the box the whole bottom was wet the crust was soggy it was disgusting and inedible. 26 dollars for 3 pieces of pie comes to about 8 and some change per piece and for that much for a piece of pie i do not expect soggy inedible pie that has to be thrown in the trash. waste of money ruined my anniversary dessert

Yelp
Everything was excellent. Had the burger and was one of, if not the best one had. Something to be said for fresh ground!

Rogerio C.

Yelp
We have returned twice so, three times did we eat and drink at Lucy's last week. This is such a gem of a restaurant. Lucia and her team are excellent hosts!

Debbie T.

Yelp
Third visit to Lucy's, always amazing! The pork chop is the best we've ever had. And I highly recommend the black bean dip, a wonder to your tastebuds.

Yelp
What a find! I love discovering hidden gems and this is definitely worth the drive from Houston. The hard part was choosing which dish to try. I went for the "CHORIPAN" and OMG, what a delicious take on one of my favorite dishes from Argentina. They elevated it with a Texan kick using Jalapeño. Of course I had to try the pie and "Key Lime" will always reign supreme - we will be returning. Service was five star, super charming ambiance. Just wish we lived a little closer, but certainly worth the drive...plus Sealy, Tx is beyond quaint!

Yelp
We were attending our grandson's little league baseball tournament in Sealy and had a few hours between games. We were soooooo pleasantly surprised to find Lucy's! The menu isn't your ordinary run of the mill boring sameness. The food was delicious, the pie amazing and the service could not have been better! The decor was what you want in your own home -- clean, fresh and eye pleasing everywhere you looked. Lucy herself made it a point to visit each table to ask if things were going well. Such a great place we went back the next day and experienced the same great food and warm welcome we had encountered the day before. A must stop if you're passing through the area. A bit pricier than a usual lunch but well worth venturing off the highway for!

Yelp
August 23, 2022 was the day I met Gloria, Lucia's niece. She asked me to help with their restaurant. Gloria told me about her story and about Lucia's restaurant in Equador. I was beyond excited to have to know that Sealy would be getting this much needed restaurant in our historic downtown! I watched in awe as Gloria, Lucia and Christina (Lucia's daughter) poured their heart and soul into this outstanding establishment. Every small detail was thought through with passion and love... and it shows. The atmosphere is a vibe. The music is on point. The service is outstanding. The wine and cocktail selection is amazing. The Caymus Cabarnet. But, let's get to the food:) ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL. The shrimp ceviche is probably my favorite item on the menu. The shrimp are big and delicious with the most amazing and refreshing flavor. My husband loved the grilled artichokes. The tomato basil soup and homemade bread is to die for, it's actually homemade. The salmon, WOW. The salmon. Fantastic. Cooked with perfection. I pair it with the broccoli and cheese sauce and a garden salad. Now, that's happiness. ;) My husband got the flat iron steak with fries. PLEASE get the fries. Those are hands down the best fries I have ever had in my life. The size, the seasoning and the texture were perfection. I am a French Fry connoisseur. ;) Incredible. Trust me. You can't leave and not have dessert. The pies... TRUST ME, SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. The pecan pie, the key lime and the berry are top runners. The grasshopper pie was all gone, but I know that would be my favorite. The chocolate martini is out of this world, and it's not everyday that the owner comes to your table and serves it to you and your guests!!!! The coffee is something you HAVE to have. I got black coffee with homemade cream. Phenomenal. PLEASE come support this incredible restaurant. I personally have long awaited for this place to open among many others. It did not disappoint. We have been there two times now and I would actually go back again today for a burger even after being there last night for dinner! We are so blessed to have a restaurant like this here in Sealy and the fact that is owned and run by such incredible humans makes it even better. Congratulations on a job well done Lucia, Gloria and Christina. All of your hard work and dedication has paid off. Outstanding.
