"After a 10-year run in Lincoln Square, Luella’s Southern Kitchen packed its bags and moved to a new location in Albany Park. Their menu is now brunch-only, but you can expect dishes like crab-stuffed shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and catfish po' boys. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - John Ringor
"The Southern restaurant served its last customer at its original Lincoln Square location, closing at 4609 N. Lincoln Avenue in early July; it plans to reopen "in just a few weeks," according to a message on its website. Owner Darnell Reed hasn’t shared the new address with the public, but says it’s only a 10-minute drive from the original restaurant. In the meantime, fans can get a taste during a gospel brunch hosted at Common Pantry on Saturday, August 2." - Jeffy Mai
"Luella’s is delivering its Southern food for dinner and weekend brunch. You can also call the restaurant directly for pickup at 773-961-8196." - adrian kane
"The golden breading surrounding Luella’s chicken has a fantastic light crispiness. But underneath it lies perfectly juicy and rich meat, all thanks to some buttermilk. And we know this is a chicken guide, but don’t be surprised if the side of ham-hock-flavored collard greens steals some of your attention." - john ringor, adrian kane
"Few things in life are as pleasurable as starting the day off with juicy fried chicken. Paying homage to his great-grandmother Luella, chef-owner Darnell Reed whips up Southern comfort foods to nourish the soul. Diners can expect chicken gumbo, salmon croquettes, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and more. The buttermilk biscuits and skillet cornbread are also can’t-miss sides.
