"Mission Local reports that Luisa’s Restaurant Wine Bar Since 1959 has finally opened — and will heretofore be referred to as simply “Luisa’s” in this report. The restaurant has been in the works since 2020, when restaurateur Luisa Hanson took over the former home of chef Daniel Patterson’s Aster at 1001 Guerrero Street. Hanson, now 94, has a larger-than-life reputation in the San Francisco restaurant world, having been the subject of more than 57 lawsuits as of 2007, filing for bankruptcy in 2009 with debts between $10 and $50 million, and having famously purchased beloved, 40-year-old Nob Hill pub John Barleycorn only to shut it down amid protests from locals. I only tried the tiramisu there, but it was excellent. The vibe was so cozy, and the waitress was extremely welcoming – she made our stay wonderful! It was great to see Luisa stop by our table to check in on us. We'll definitely come back again!

One of the best Italian restaurants in the city and probably the best value Italian spot in the city. Gnocchi was some of the best I’ve had in a minute. Lobster ravioli was also really good. Pizza honestly didn’t look the most amazing but man it tasted great. Tiramisu was a little underwhelming but still tasty, just a tad bitter and wish they didn’t use Hershey’s. Would come back for sure.

This is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant and I don’t see that ever changing. Ever since my first visit, it has never disappointed me. The lasagna, penne pasta, and gnocchi are absolutely mouthwatering. Every bite is rich, comforting, and full of flavor. You can truly taste the love in the food. I love this place so much and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. I guarantee you will fall in love. The owner is incredibly sweet and welcoming, which makes the experience even more special

Hands down, this is my favorite Italian restaurant that I've been to in San Francisco so far. I thought I have had gnocchi before but omg when I tell you this gnocchi is so good, it's better than any that I've ever had. The pasta I had was delicious and fresh as well. The sauces were CRAZY delicious and truly I'm not one to obsess over Italian food usually but it was so so yummy and memorable. The service was so kind. She let us try a few wines before deciding on the one we were going to get checked on us regularly, but not too much and it was just really really good service. Luisa her self was there as well sitting in a booth and it was really cool to see her just hanging out while I was enjoying her and her family's delicious recipes. the ambience of the restaurant was so cute and quaint and I can't wait to come back.

Luisa is a nice neighborhood gem offering traditional Italian home-cooking owned by a lovely lady. We tried a few apps, pastas, and finished off with dessert. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced especially for San Francisco. Some fav dishes included the parpadelle which was house made, burrata, and tiramisu for dessert. We all left completely full.

Luisa's is an excellent Italian restaurant. This restaurant is a real jewel in the Mission. I loved my Lasagna Fiorentina, which bested a lot of lasagna I've had in Italy over the years. The bread is house baked and too tasty. The garlic bread was even better, made of course from that delicious bread. Luisa was at the restaurant greeting customers and watching over everything. She runs a tight ship, and the employees seem to adore her. I remember Luisa's the restaurant when it was on Castro St. during the 80s. I always loved eating there. It was a joy to reminisce with her after all these years. And it's amazing she is still going strong at 96!

If you want a true Italian restaurant this is one of the most amazing options in SF! Amazing service, food and atmosphere. Good price!! Luisa was there, and that was also incredible! Will come back for sure!! LOVED IT
