Lulabelle's Sweet Shop

Stumbled upon this hidden gem today while walking around northern DC and it was just amazing. The service was great, the food was awesome and overall everything was delicious. We had a cortado, a chocolate milkshake and a scoop of the AMAZING honey graham ice cream. I was blown away, I didn’t even know that flavor was a thing but oh my god if I had it back in orlando it would be my go to!! Highly recommend

Great customer service, and even better ice cream flavors! So many amazing and rich dairy free options, especially if you like unconventional flavors. My favorite is the golden milk ice cream. So yummy and never with the watery texture of some almond milk ice creams and no overpowering coconut flavor like with coconut milk ice creams. Good all around! Always make my way there when I'm in the area :)

Delish full fat ice cream! With a cute setup in front of grocery type items and tables and chairs. Throwback doesn't capture how cute and old timey. And the best ice cream. Had the key lime pie and honey crisp. Heaven!!

Started a Saturday morning off nice and early, took a walk down to Lulabelle’s to grab a morning drink. Walked in and as usual a wonderful environment, good vibes from the team, and kind, friendly interactions. The sweetened, iced matcha w/ oat milk was delish and the mocha iced latte was nice and strong (ask for extra mocha;). Love visiting this sweet shop. Give this place a visit☕️

What a cute place! The decor is adorable and the ice cream is delicious. I loved the peanut butter which I am normally not a fan of and the watermelon. The watermelon was very refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day. I also had a iced dirty chai which I thoroughly enjoyed! They also have lots of cute nick nacks and sweets throughout out the store which are reasonably priced.

Only went here once, but great place! The staff is super friendly and made recommendations. I got the graham cracker ice cream and it was excellent! They even have sprinkles! I would come here again if I'm in this area.

Wow, best ice cream in North DC. Recommend the pistachio and honey graham. Blown away by the all natural flavors and ingredients. Take a sec and check out the cool trinkets in the store…e.g. Golden Girl Mints.

made the mistake of stopping by at 4pm, right as the school crowd was getting busy so there were abt 15 people in this tiny shop! Nevertheless, the staff was so nice and efficient! I got the pistachio ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and it was so yummy! Love that the sprinkles are complimentary!

An adorable little shop, independent and locally owned. It's a great spot to poke around in before going to dinner at Timber or Menya Hosaki or one of the other destination restaurants on this strip of Upshur. I've found the staff to be friendly too! It's also much more than a sweet shop--though they serve ice cream in a case at the back, the shelves have everything from kids' activities to fancy speciality food items to fun trinkets. I wish there were more places like Lulabelle!

Roasted strawberry ice cream was the best strawberry flavor I've ever tasted. Very rich and free sprinkles were a plus. My husband's mint chocolate chip had large chunks of chocolate. Not the cheapest place but the quality and flavor selections are awesome. They also had blueberry jasmine, cardamom, honey Graham, and a few other interesting flavors

This is one of our go-to ice cream shops in the neighborhood! They also have a coffee bar with doughnuts and a cheese shop, as well as a sort of "premium general store" section up front (think interesting chips, funky chocolates, and other fun food items). The coffee Oreo ice cream is one of my favorites ever, the honey graham ice cream is also great. Definitely opt for the less "traditional" flavors, since that's where they really shine. No seating inside, but there are often a few chairs or benches outside and there's also a small parklet with benches about a block away that's a great spot to enjoy your ice cream in the shade.

Cute little cafe/ice cream shop in the Petworth neighborhood. Went here to treat myself to something sweet after a a walk through Rock Creek Park. The employees are very friendly. They didn't as of late Sunday afternoon have much baked goods available but have really tasty ice cream. I had the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. So much better than the artificial tasting Good Humor ones I'm used to.

So glad they have non dairy ice cream! I got a scoop of golden milk and loved it. Definitely a treat.

Really good icecream and coffee. My only complaint is their drinks are very small. Milkshake is a good size though! I got a scoop of blueberry jasmine, and it was a bit icy which is usually not ideal, but it made it a bit crunchy and good!

Something really welcome to the area. Friendly, forward, and helpful service. I simply ordered a brownie and a blondie. Doesn't seem like much, but if I'm going to buy a brownie from you, and you're a sweet shop, it better be a heck of a brownie. And it was. Professional grade brownie and blondie. Get some of that.

This place is like a tiny apothecary filled with very beautiful and expensive treats. There were beautiful single source chocolates and packets of pasta that looked like art. The bagel I got was perfectly functional, good for a walk, but I would come back to get a gift or a special treat for someone.

This is the best ice cream in DC, also may be the best ice cream I have ever had. That's it. That's the review.

This little shop is full of sweetness! The ice cream is good for you with unique flavors. The candy is just too tempting to pass up. I bought three lollipops with flavors of lemongrass, champagne strawberry and thyme. And the cards with cute knickknacks keep me staying inside this shop for a little longer than anticipated. I wish I lived closer to Petworth so I could frequent mor often!

After a full dessert, my friend mentioned that he ran into this place not knowing it existed. When he metioned ice cream, I was down. Duh. I love ice cream. It's a cute little spot with outdoor seating. There's also seating inside but not a lot. There's a homey feel to this place. When you walk in, there is a variety of candy that looked expensive. I ignored those and went straight to the ice cream flavors. They may have had 8-10 flavors; I definitely should've counted. You can order a kiddie, single, or double scoop. I got a single scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough and my friend got a double scoop of strawberry. It cost about $9, so that wasn't too bad. They do offer coffee as well. As for the ice cream itself, meh. I've had better. I'm glad I checked this place out though. Always down to go to an icre cream spot.

This shop was super cute with a small variety of flavors that would satisfy any customer. The prices were reasonable and the outdoor seating was perfect on a warm summer day. I had the orange sorbet...it was really food! My friend had the cardamom ice cream which he loved. They had a few sorbets and like 6 - 8 different ice cream flavors. I appreciated that they let me try as many flavors as I liked and weren't annoyed by it at all. The service was super quick and the staff was super kind. The only reason for the 4 star is because of the inside decor. I think there's still work to be done inside to really make this place look super cute...but I'm certain that will come over time.

What a great little gem this shop is in the area! Finally, I do not have to make a trip downtown for artisanal ice cream. Stopped by on a Saturday night for my ice cream fix. 2 scoops for $5, I opted for the vanilla and Oreo espresso. The vanilla was rich and creamy, but the real star was the oreo espresso. The espresso is exactly what you expect. Not just coffee, but a full bodied espresso flavor sweetened by the chunks of Oreos. I must complain about the cone though. It was soggy and extremely difficult to bite. Not sure if the way they store them in an open basket, but it was a bit disappointing take away from my experience. The store itself is adorable. Reminds me of those little country stores you find with candies, trinkets, mugs and gifts. Candy is pretty pricey. $4 for a small bag of gummies, luckily the fruit flavor is strong. The cortado was also a nice treat outside of the ice cream. They have a DC gift box of 5 truffles, which for $15 is way too much and I'm not even sure if they're made on site. As a born + raised Washingtonian I have to point out that the steep prices are catered to the gentrifiers of the neighborhood and not those who have called it home for decades. You have the staple Chinese spot across the street, serving up wings and Mumbo sauce at $5 a plate and I can only imagine what the inevitable rent hike will do to their business. Also, it's left out of Lulabelle's adorable postcard of the "800 blk of Uptown business," but honey a neighborhood in DC is nothing without a Dannie's/Yums, etc. Clearly the DC the new business owners of the neighborhood envision is one without the true Washingtonians.

Lulabelle's is a welcome addition to Upshur Street. This adorable little sweet shop offers so much in such a cozy space: ice cream, sandwiches, coffee, baked goods, small gifts, and CANDY galore. Everytime I come here I have to talk myself out of a $7 unicorn eraser. It's only a matter of time before my children look beyond the ice cream and lollipops to the cute gifts on display... We usually come for the ice cream. A good assortment of flavors for a small place, and the quality is top notch. We have never been disappointed. What really makes this a 5 star place is the service. Everyone we have interacted with is incredibly patient and eager to please (the patience is especially noteworthy as they probably deal with a very large percentage of patrons being under the age of 10). I just wish that they had some kind of loyalty system in place (a la Ice Cream Jubilee), but that is the one and only thing I'd change in this picture-perfect place!

The ice cream is very good. I had the Blueberry flavor and it was excellent. More of a limit of flavors than other shops in the area but what they had was delicious. The shop is cute and gives vacation vibes. Staff was really chill. I would give it 4.75 stars if I could but I have to doc it one star b/c ice cream costs at least a dollar more than I think it should. Not just this shop but all ice cream shops.

I came here on a Saturday evening, the weather was perfect for some ice cream... my husband and I saw another couple walk by with their treat and couldn't resist! The inside of Lulabelle's Sweet Shop is adorable, sweets and trinkets line the walls. The staff here were so friendly, I love the entire vibe of the shop. I ordered the Coffee Oreo, it was delicioussss! The oreo chunks tasted amazing with the coffee flavored ice cream. I am not a huge fan of coffee, but it worked with the Oreo :) Parking is a hassle, there is street parking available... but it is limited. I will definitely be back to try more flavors! I highly recommend this spot, there are several restaurants nearby so you can always stop by for dessert afterwards ;)

My review only for croissants. Prefectly shaped. Moist inside, crispy outside. Lulabelle's buttery pastries are outstanding. One thing DC lacks is decent croissant shops and I am very happy to come across a place can fill my need. I wish I took a photo.

The icecream is extremely flavorful, and is one of the better ice creams I have had. The taste is rich, and you can absolutely taste the flavor. The shop is small and colorful with a few chairs around. I would probably not get it with Banana Sprinkles, only because you don't taste the Sprinkles as well since the icecream flavor is really overpowering.

One of my favorite bakeries and ice cream shops in DC!! Everything is always delicious, they have great bread and great coffee as well. Plus there's a lot of nice market items from fresh veggies to cheeses and such. Love this place can't recommend it enough!!

I guess I expected something a little different from a place that advertises as a sweet shop. There were only a few very basic flavors of ice cream and two loads of bread when I came in. Maybe other things were behind the counter or already sold out? I had the mango sorbet which was quite tasty. I feel like charging for things like sprinkles and whipped cream makes it seem like the shop is scraping to get by. Overall, the shop has lots of TYPES of things (dry goods, coffee, ice cream, bread, cheese) but not enough options in each category. I'd like a more specialized shop, where as this place feels like it's trying to be all things to all people.

I highly recommend the gummies and ice cream. They also carry a local coffee roasted in dc. The espresso is quite good, especially over ice cream. The presentation of this place is great too: great light, inviting color scheme, and really fun retro chairs to compliment the candy store theme. Great addition to the neighborhood for both kids and adults. One qualm: it's a little pricey.

I'm excited for this little sweets shop on Upshur! Yesterday was just my luck because I wanted ice cream on this unseasonably warm day. And yesterday also happened to be Lulabelle's reopening day! I was pressed for time so didn't get to explore the store as much as I wanted to, but I'm happy with the ice cream choices I made. I chose the mango sorbet with the milk chocolate ice cream. (The combo sounds weird, I know, but it worked!). I expected milk chocolate to be more like a typical chocolate, but it was actually looks like chocolate chip ice cream. I learned that the ice cream is made in Baltimore. I love trying new local foods. This shop is so cute, totally instagrammable, and I can't wait to visit again soon!

I've been here a few times. I get excited every time I go back lol. They have delicious ice cream with many flavors to choose from. Flavors alternate from time to time, but there is always something fun on the menu that is worth trying! They also have really good coffee and baked goods! I recently went (during COVID-19) and they were taking orders outside their front door. FYI- ice cream was only available by the pint (not complaining). Check this place out, you won't regret it!

Lulabelle's made my daughter's Alice in Wonderland themed birthday cake and they hit it out of the ballpark. Everything from the ordering process, to the price, to the appearance, and most importantly to the taste, was great! I'd highly recommend this shop and their strawberry cake!

I scream and you scream we all scream for ice cream! This was really good ice cream. I had the honey gram and gravel road. Both were sooooooooooooo good! Give this place a try!

We stopped by to check out the place and grab some coffee. I did not buy any candy but I have to say the marshmallows looked absolutely delicious! Honestly I didn't buy any because I knew I'd eat them in one sitting. Next time they're fair game. Our lattes were good, maybe a bit too sweet. Service was cheery and prompt! The prices were comparable to Starbucks.

This was my first time trying Lulabelles. The ice cream was delicious - even better than I was expecting! I had the caramel crunch and the strawberry. Both were great but the caramel crunch was amazing. I'll definitely be back the next time im in the neighborhood.

Wow. An absolute Petworth gem; make sure to stop by here any chance you get. I honestly think that it's better than other DC shops like Jubilee and Jeni's! The shop itself is extremely cute and definitely juxtaposes it surroundings. Once you're inside, you'll be greeted with the smell of freshly baked goods that displayed on small tables in the front half. However, the real treat is the back so head straight to the ice cream case. They don't have as many flavors as more traditional flavors so don't be surprised if your favorite is missing (e.g. cookie dough). I tried the honey graham and milk chocolate. The honey graham is comparable to a cookie dough but with graham pieces instead. The quality of the ice cream is incredible; it's incredibly smooth and rich. You can tell that the fat content is extremely high (so watch out if you're dieting!). Best part is that sprinkles are free!

Such a sweet little sweet shop :-) Decorated so cute, the kiddos will love it. I got the mango sherbet cone and felt like a kid again walking down the street enjoying its delicious flavor. I also like the interesting kids novelties (puzzles, crayons, etc) they sell. Strolling the surrounding neighborhood was a pure joy.

I appreciated that the chef circled back to me after the review (wrote an email and called me) and we had a conversation about what had happened during the ordering process and the final product. He is clearly very concerned about his business and reputation and shows that in the way he cares about customer's satisfaction. My advice for others is by all means go to Lulabelle's, just make sure that if you're ordering a custom cake you are very specific about what you want and don't want, and make sure your and the pastry chef's expectations are aligned. Perhaps ask for a sample of what he's offering to make sure it matches what you have in mind.

Had a lovely experience during my first visit. It was practically empty on a Thursday afternoon (2:00 pm). Inviting place and very nice items on the shelf. And the young man who took the order was very nice and gave me information on their food items. Will come back for ice cream.

Yummy in my tummy! Best ice-cream ever. Every time I go, they have new flavors! Current favorite: Graham Cracker and Key Lime Insane combination.

Came in with some coworkers for coffee on a nice Friday morning. I just thought they had coffee and ice cream. I didn't know it was an old school sweet shop. Not only was my cappuccino amazing, but I picked up some orange cream gummy bears for myself that were quite good. The guy behind the counter was very helpful too with our slightly indecisive group. I'll definitely be back.

Ok, so I'm from New England where we consume more ice cream than anywhere else in the country (are least I think that's true?) and I consider myself not an ice cream snob, because that's not the right word, but maybe an ice cream expert? Purist? Classicist? I just love good, full fat, real ice cream. Today I tried Lulabelle's mint chocolate chip ice cream and it is the real deal! So creamy and fatty acid the chocolate chips are so delicious. I'll definitely be back!

This place is amazing. My Boo and I went there and got ice cream. We both had the "Coffee N Oreo". Very delicious. The "Honeygram" is also good. The customer service was amazing. Very friendly. Wish it was a little bigger. It was very cute. 2 families came in after us and got ice cream also. Definitely looking forward to going back. Perfect summer treat..

Lulabelle's is a fun little sweet shop. The ice cream is good and reasonably priced - Honey Graham was super tasty and a nice change from the usual flavors. They also have all types of old-fashioned candy, pastries, sandwiches, etc plus things like cards and fun little tchotchkes for sale. Great for kids and adults alike - glad it's here in the neighborhood.

Listen! This ice cream parlor is so authentic and those flavors are amazing. My first time going was for the coffee Oreo ice cream two years ago and now I'm hook! Two of the greatest things combined! Hopefully, they create a coffee Oreo ice cream sandwich soon. I can't wait to try their sandwiches and many more.

A fun, cute sweets shop! They have a pretty wide range of cute things to buy as gifts or, obviously, for yourself. Their ice cream also has a lot of topping options which is a nice touch.

Wow, there is so much to say but too narrow it down this is one of the best ice cream parlors in DC! I have been loyal to them for two years, and I will continue to buy ice cream here. My favorite is the coffee Oreo, two amazing flavors in one bite. I just wish the pint was not $8 but I understand the ice cream is from a different company. Hopefully, they'll make a coffee Oreo ice cream sandwich. I can't wait to try their other pastries and sandwiches.

Adore the ice cream here! Fantastic flavors, ranging from honey graham, to coffee oreo, to cardamon and also grapefruit campari sorbet. Lovely ambiance and cute atmosphere to sit down and enjoy your ice cream.

That key lime pie ice cream was so dope, I'm honestly thinking about going back to get a second scoop on a cone. Ridiculously yummy.

A bit late of a review, but I had ordered a cake for my mom's 87th birthday, and had specifically said she likes light, airy cakes, and oranges. They said they would make it very light, with a fresh orange cream filling. The smallish cake was so heavy when I picked it up. I thought, maybe the frosting was heavy? The cake was soooooo dense it was almost not a cake. There was also barely any orange cream filling in between the layers. Just strange that they would not have made a new one after they took it out of the oven and saw that it was so heavy and dense.

Awesome! I am impressed with the drink that contains coffee and ice cream! A bit of nostalgia comes to me while sipping my coffee/ice cream drink. I will have to make another trip to try some of the other treats.

This little pastry/coffee/ shop shop has tasty fresh pastries and great coffee. They have a little boutique that has really cute candy themed items. Perhaps the best thing about it is amazing service and a great place to sit and have a coffee. I love to go and people watch, sip coffee, and relax. Love, love, love it!

Creamy, rich, ice cream with all the essential flavors to choose from. The mint chocolate chip and peanut butter cup were delicious, and the two scoop cup is HUGE. I sampled the toasted almond which was also amazing. They offer milkshakes and a lot of other treats that are probably worth trying as well. Definitely stop by if you are in the area.
