Yelp
Lulu California Bistro is a Palm Springs landmark with its distinctive colorful signage and its convenient location on South Palm Canyon Drive in the heart of the city. We met friends here for Sunday brunch on Labor Day weekend, a first visit for all of us who - for some reason - had never managed to get here prior to this visit. We had an 11 AM reservation for four, fully expecting to have to wait due to it being Sunday on a holiday weekend, but we were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately.
Upon entering you are at once impressed by the cavernous, multi-level interior. I requested and was able to get a corner table away from the main room and appreciated that the tables are spaced far enough apart so as not to be one on top of another as you find at other Palm Springs restaurants which seem to cram as many tables as they possibly can into any available space.
Service was fast and friendly - both the young man who took our drinks order and our server, Oscar, who came over with menus and to answer any questions we had. Both the bus staff and Oscar remained attentive throughout our visit - much appreciated.
Lulu's is known for their Sunday brunch which is a 3-course meal for a fixed price of $29.99.
We each decided that it was more food than any of us wanted so we opted to a la cart it.
For beverages, two of us had coffee ($3.49 each with unlimited refills), one ordered a glass of pineapple juice ($4.998 - no refills) and I had the ice tea ($3.99 with unlimited refills).
We had four different entrees:Chicken Pot Pie (roasted chicken, baby carrots, mushrooms, pearl onions and sugar snow peas) for $21.99 which came as a huge portion with enough left over to take at least a third of it home for later.
Vegetarian Scramble (mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions) for $19.99.American Crepe Maison (scrambled eggs, turkey, bacon and American cheese) for $19.99
South of the Border Scramble (avocado, shrimp, Monterey pepper jack cheese, grilled chilis and fresh salsa) for $19.99.
Portions were large, served hot and at the same time. Everyone was very satisfied with their choices.
Our total bill for breakfast with tax but before tip came to $107.00 which we thought was very reasonable - especially for usually over-priced Palm Springs.
All told, based on our very positive experience, I recommend Lulu's - at least for their breakfast: fast, friendly, attentive service, good food, nice portions, reasonably priced. We will definitely make a point of returning for lunch and/or dinner.
