The 38 Best Restaurants in Montreal, Canada | Eater

"If the city’s Lebanese food scene is undergoing something of a renaissance, it’s in no small part thanks to restaurateur Soufian Mamlouk. He’s one of the driving forces behind Heni, an upscale spot where the flavors of the SWANA region intermingle with Quebec’s seasonal bounty, and Sienna, a wine import outfit focused on Lebanon. But Mamlouk’s dedication to spotlighting the cultural and culinary traditions of his native Lebanon began with Lulu Épicerie, a small street food counter that has been quietly redefining what shawarma means to Montrealers since 2022. Unlike the lettuce- and tomato-stuffed wraps popularized by local chains, the version here is fiercely traditional and uncompromising on the ratio of meat to sauce to bread. The shawarma is wrapped in marqouq, a thin, crisp alternative to pita perfect for soaking in the flavors and maintaining structural integrity. The chicken version — there are also beef and potato options — features garlic sauce, wild pickles, and a touch of pomegranate molasses. That’s it; no filler. Also on offer: charcoal-grilled meats like kafta and shish taouk, an assortment of mouajanat (savory pastries), and manakeesh (try the half cheese, half za’atar). Best for: A quick bite on the go, a picnic, or a big family gathering (with a shawarma party platter)." - Valerie Silva

For the Team Behind Montreal Restaurant Lulu Épicerie, Lebanese Takeout Is Just the Beginning | Eater Montreal

"In a neutral-toned grab-and-go spot in Little Burgundy, I encountered Lulu Épicerie, a five-month-old épicerie on Notre‑Dame West serving traditionally and deliciously made shawarma, shish taouk, and manakeesh. Their shawarma is fiercely traditional and uncompromising on the ratio of meat to sauce to bread, wrapped in marqouq (a thin, crisp alternative to pita); the chicken shawarma features garlic sauce, wild pickles, and a touch of pomegranate molasses (there are also beef and potato options). I also found charcoal-grilled meats like kafta and shish taouk, an assortment of mouajanat, and manakeesh (try the half cheese, half za'atar). As an épicerie they aim to stock artisanal Lebanese olive oil, wine, jam, and spices, though imports have been delayed by supply-chain and political turmoil; for now they carry the Ya Habibi catalogue (salt-scented candles and vintage mixtape battery packs whose proceeds support charities). Lulu hosts pop-ups and vinyl-only DJs and is open daily at 2507 Notre‑Dame Street West — great for a quick bite, a picnic, or a shawarma party platter." - Valerie Silva

Really good middle eastern food! We weren’t sure what to order so the owner recommended the shawarma. It was the right choice. It was a little smaller than others I’ve had, though it was tightly packed and very flavourful. No complaints here. I also had the Kafka which was also fantastic. Fresh out of the fryer and delicious. If you’re in the neighborhood you need to drop by.

Google
Got the chicken shawarma pita and batata harra, really good. A tiny tad too much lemon but really good overall. Found the pita a bit dry, either the chicken or sauce not spread evenly but I'm nitpicking. Good portion. ~21$ total. Would go back!

A little taste of home!!! What a cute little place. You can get Mediterranean food and especially Lebanese manakish and shawarma. The taste is authentic and service is friendly. I wish they do manakish all day long but I know its worth the hype!

Ordered two dishes and both were made with love and care. Food was delicious and unique. It’s a casual place that punches about its weight class in flavor.

Google
One of the best Manakeesh spots in Montreal. I’ve tried the za’atar, cheese, and lahma bajeen — all were fresh, flavorful, and truly satisfying. The dough is perfectly baked. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I also tried the shawarma and the kefta sandwich — they weren’t really my favorite, but the Manakeesh is definitely the highlight here for me. It’s a little on the pricey side (expect to pay at least $35 + tax for just three Manakeesh), but still the taste is good. Highly recommended if you’re craving delicious Manakeesh in the city.

You're hungry you're at Notre Dame Ouest walking the streets next to Épicerie Lulu. You must absolutely get a sandwich here or grilled pita. It's absolutely delicious with a good kick with the spices as well. Bless this store and their food.

Google
Incredible sandwiches and potatoes! Got there pretty close to closing and they were out of shawarma, but the kafta sandwich was really good. Garlic potatoes were incredible, super fresh and crispy with a spicy oil and great garlic sauce. The place is really brightly lit and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They gave me a free water cup without making me buy a bottle which I appreciated!

Google
The best shawarma I ever had. It’s a must try. Not a lot of sitting space.

Yelp
Due to poor service, the place is going to have very low stars. The guy at counter was way too busy on his phone to serve us despite us greeting him. The man behind him was prepping food, and all the way in the back the lady was chopping veggies. When the guy was free finally from his phone, he took our orders which was two shawarma chicken sandwiches. The telephone/the cashier/the order taker started to wrap our sandwiches without wearing gloves or without washing hands between him holding phone. I was about to get mad, my partner asked me not to make a scene. Poor service and poor hygiene made me not enjoy my food. It was a frustrating spot.

Yelp
Lulu is a clean, sleek, casual Lebanese restaurant with a couple stand-out features: rotating spits of shawarma, a charcoal grill, and a manakeesh oven! I came here for the manakeesh flatbreads, which were freshly rolled from dough, dressed with a choice of topping, and baked hot and fresh. I got my manakeesh with za'atar, a mixture of thyme, sesame seeds, sumac, and olive oil, and also added the fresh tomato, cucumber, mint, and olives at the end. The flatbread had a soft, chewy, slightly flaky texture, which was simply amazing. I also tried the manakeesh topped with a spicy chili sauce and melted cheese, which was just as tasty and made for a delicious snack!

Yelp
Open Airy Clean interior. The food was awesome. Tabouleh I got was a "bomb of flavors". They also has some cool "Merch" that reads "Home is where the Hummus is" so you may get your "Swag" while getting the food.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. Get here before 3PM to get your hands on amazing manakish!! The all-dressed zaatar manakish is absolutely amazing. The frekah salad is excellent and the fattoush is one of the best ever. They've got some really amazing extra virgin olive oil from Lebanon.
