11 Impressive Cocktails from Portland’s New Bars and Restaurants

"Lulu, a narrow, minimalist bar with a lot of stylish black leather seating, was reportedly almost called Pretty Ugly. The drink that got the name instead is anything but — a verdant mezcal sour that has the addition of kiwi and celery bitters, which give it both a juiciness and a touch of vegetal spice. It’s as refreshing as it looks, without being overly sweet." - Alex Frane

Cocktail Bar Lulu Is Diving Into the World of Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei Cuisine - Eater Portland

"Like many other locales across town, Lulu — the chic, forest-green cocktail lounge on SE Grand Avenue — closed in March 2020 during the first wave of dining shutdowns. However, unlike many others, it kept its doors closed save for a brief, week-long window in the summer of 2020. But now, co-owner Vijay Kumar says it’s ready to reopen, and when it does, it will look a little different: along with some cosmetic upgrades including new leather seats and fresh wallpaper, visitors will also find a menu highlighting an under-represented cuisine in the Portland restaurant world — Nikkei cuisine, a style of cooking that combines Peruvian ingredients with Japanese technique." - Alex Frane

Awesome service! Happy hour drinks and great food until 6:00. Music and dancing after 10 PM !!

Google
This place is an absolute gem, from the ambiance to the delicious food. Smash burger, rolls, wings, steak... everything was immaculate. The drinks were also fantastic and their mocktail menu was on point! Will be going back 100%

I ordered an Amaretto sour, salt and pepper squid, and salad roll (with chilli oil) and was pleasantly surprised! Everything was really good and the staff are all so nice. The atmosphere is chill, you can sit down talk and eat or you can dance and have fun. There was a DJ that was doing good I would definitely go back and try the other food on the menu.

Google
Went here for a girls night last night and it was great. The two bartenders working were so patient and even made me not 1 but two odd, but particular drinks bc I didn’t really know what I wanted. The music was a vibe and the smash burger is delicious!!

Google
Great drinks, food and atmosphere. Peruvian fries were yummy. Staff was friendly and warm and accommodating. Update: second visit, food still amazing. They have a. Fun Photo Booth for pictures that we tried this time. We stayed later to check out the Dj session. It’s a chill vibe with a disco ball lit up. Eating food is an interesting experience with very limited candlelight 😄

Google
Lovely cocktail bar. Food was tasty but some of the choices were a little weird and I found it expensive. Solid bar food, but I wouldn’t come here just to eat I think. The cocktails are definitely the reason to go! Ambiance is excellent, drinks are excellent. I’m doing dry January, and the bartender made me an awesome mocktail off-menu. Lovely people and such a cute place on a weekday. Absolutely empty on a Wednesday when I went, which is funny because I know this place is busy on a weekend! They easily made the Peruvian fries dairy free for me and my friend, really adaptable menu within reason it seems like. Peruvian fries were good but super messy. Fresh rolls were OK but I think they could have used some brightness and they fell apart when you tried to pick them up, super tasty sauces though. Ceviche was odd, flavors were yummy but it had fried calamari in it which didn’t make sense to me. Instead of dinner I’ll come here for snacks so just one plate or desert I think.

Google
Lulu has been my go to spot since they opened. Anytime I’m coming in to town I definitely make a stop there. The food is amazing and the staff there is so professional and welcoming. Definitely recommend checking them out! Oh and DJ starts at 10pm!

Google
Wife & I went early literally got there when they opened. Josh, the bartender was super attentive & friendly. Cocktails were well thought out & delicious. Peruvian fries. Yes please. Smash burger was solid. Fish sauce wings nice were nice as well. Chicken katsu was bomb. Josh really made the experience. He was candid about what he liked & didn’t like on the menu & that genuinely made for a better experience. Kudos Josh. Give him a raise.

Yelp
Lovely cocktail bar. Food was tasty but some of the choices were a little weird and I found it expensive. Solid bar food, but I wouldn't come here just to eat I think. The cocktails are definitely the reason to go! Ambience is excellent, drinks are excellent. I'm doing dry May, and the bartender made me an awesome mocktail off-menu. Yelp
Honestly I didn't really know what to expect coming to Lulu, but the food was subpar. The only thing I really liked was the fresh rolls. But everything else was just eh... especially the burger it was like McDonald's quality. They also forgot my partner's drink too and I understand that can be a mistake. The vibes are cute here tho and it's worth a try because some reviews say they have on and off days with the food so I could've just came on an off day

Yelp
I always enjoy the atmosphere, food and drinks at Lulu's. We came for chicken wing week this time and it was awesome! Their food never lets us down and the selection of whiskeys always keeps us coming back.

Yelp
Had a great time here with friends! The inside is spacious and they have bar seating, tables, and a lounging area. While it's nice it's also casual and the ambiance is very upbeat when there's a lot of people. Drinks here are good and the food is always reliable. Love coming here with friends!

Yelp
I've been wanting to check out Lulu forever, and I finally made time to go to celebrate my birthday with a couple of friends. My partner and I showed up about 30 minutes before my reservation, and they were so welcoming. They have a nice couch-seating area for casual vibes if you don't want to sit at the tables or at the bar. Let's talk about the drinks. My goodness. Their beautiful wall shows off an eclectic collection of drinks, and they truly have everything. I began with the Rick and Shorty (passionfruit & vodka) and it was a great start to my night. Other drinks don't fall any short, and each has a different character that really speak volumes to their range. The food is provided by Jarana, and it was excellent. We got the Salt and Pepper Squid, Fish Sauce Wings, and Peruvian Fries. I wish the squid was a bit bigger because it was kind of hard to grab them with forks! I wasn't able to try the bigger dishes, but that just means I'll be back to try more. Vibes are immaculate. Music is great. Ambiance is chill and laidback. I heard Lulu turns into a nightclub after certain hours. I wasn't able to experience this firsthand, but it sounds like a good time if you like dinner to nightclub experience. FYI, everything is by tab. Orders are by tab as well.

Yelp
This place is cool, but annoying. It seems like the type of place that is laid out that needs table service, but we were told to order at the bar, the host asked us to try to keep our stay to 90-minutes and after long delays standing at the bar to order and from the kitchen we were reminded that we were coming up on time, but our food had not even arrived yet. We ordered as quick as we could after order a round of cocktails. The thing is, the food, drink and bartenders are great, but they should really have table service - especially if they want to try to control the pace of tables. The service was ok, but I miss good table service. This is the kind of place that I don't think justifies a 20%+ tip, the tip is for service, which is very limited here

Yelp
Hands down, favorite bar in Portland. The music slaps and the food smacks! The staff is beyond friendly and they are attentive. Whether you come for dinner or drinks at night, you will get quality service. The ambiance and aesthetic of the bar is amazing. I've came here to eat their ceviche and other food options and it has never disappointed. The burger and chimichurri fries are delicious. You'll always have a great time here, guaranteed!
google avatar

Trina I.

Yelp
Great bar, service was quick and all the bartenders were nice and attentive. Drinks were a little on the strong side but that's a good thing in my opinion! Got the Hit the Coast (left) and the Pretty Ugly (right) and I'd highly recommend the Hit the Coast, it was so good I ordered a second one.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
We didn't eat here (though that's still on my to-do list) but came in the evening for cocktails. We didn't love them so I wouldn't promptly return for the drinks. We had a fun time in the photo booth though!
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
Too costly, but the drinks and food was good just small portion sizes. And just kinda a not worth it experience.

Beverly S.

Yelp
We thought this was a great bar with very nice ambiance and service. Enjoyed the fresh rolls and calamari. Excellent drinks.

Yelp
We've been back a number of times to eat and drink at Lulu. We love the lounge casualness of this place with really quality cocktails, plus with a very delicious hazy IPA on tap, my husband is more than thrilled. Unfortunately, the food has been hit and miss. Sometimes its on point and sometimes its a dud. I'm hoping we've just caught them on a few bad nights. We'll keep coming back, but here's hoping for more consistent quality eats from the kitchen.

Yelp
Really beautiful cocktail bar. I was wowed by the decor the minute I walked in. We were able to grab a table right away as we came right when they opened on a weekend evening. Ordering was a bit clumsy. We weren't sure if it was order at the table or bar since there was lack of communication from staff. But every dish we ordered was delicious. We also ordered a variety of drinks and they were all superb. Cool place to enjoy food and cocktails with friends. I think they have a DJ after 10PM.

Mat L.

Yelp
Love the variety of cocktails options. Something for everyone. The food is top tier, a unique menu that has something for everyone's taste! Music is always on point! Always a safe and fun time. Never one bad experience. Bartenders are always on top of it!

Yelp
My friend and I were stuck between places to go and I am so glad we chose to go to LULU. I've seen so many people post about it on Instagram and I get it! We came pretty early in the evening, and it was fairly empty. If you're trying to avoid being around a lot of people, I would recommend doing so. We left right before it was getting busy. I'm looking at the menu that's online and realizing it's missing a lot of things that was ordered. I highly, highly, highly recommend the street ceviche with rockfish, fried calamari, aji amarillo, Peruvian cancha. The calamari was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. There were other things on the plate that I still can't tell you what it was, but all I know is that I want more of it. My friend also got the empanadas and she was pointing at it and telling me that it was really good. The Peruvian potatoes with huancaynas, mozzarella, and olives was potatoes unlike any other potatoes I have ever had. Not your regular, average, everyday potatoes. It's potatoes 2.0. Everything was DELICIOUS! I repeat for people who are looking up LULU and trying to decide if they should go, do yourself a favor and check it out. Yeah, sure, LULU is a trendy bar, but go for the food. The chef kept coming up and checking in on us and asking us about the food. I hope he sees this review, because his food deserves a round of applause and I am ready to come back for more. I texted my friends that night to talk about how good this place was.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
Alright 5 stars now because the music is way better. Shoutout to Robert for knowing how to make some fire ass drinks. It gets pretty busy when the weather ain't shit, so be prepared to wait.
google avatar

Bradlee E.

Yelp
I am a Portland transplant from Las Vegas. City of fine dining and luxury with class if I say so myself. Opposite of the eclectic vibe to Portland to be fair. However, that's why I moved here for something unique ! Lulu is unique! The music is seasoned. And they people are bright. I've always had the best service here at 3 years strong. As a black man in Portland that means something, trust me. Check out their instagram page for the chef's tasting night if you're looking for an elegant date night. If you're looking for more of a lounge vibe with great music than any other night should do. Try them all!

Bridgette S.

Yelp
So, if they got control of the chaotic environment, it would be worth visiting again. The food was mostly very good, the bartenders were friendly and the drinks were pretty good. The steak was very good, the ceviche was different but delicious, but the wings were meh and the dessert was weird. We had reservations, but when we arrived we had to wait at the door for nearly 10 minutes because there was no host - one of the servers doubled as host, which doesn't really work when it's busy. There are 6 or 7 tables along the wall which can be reserved, but you have to order at the bar - and there is no designated space to order - you have to squeeze in between people at a packed bar. And, there is a huge line to order. This was chaos and frustrating. It was also EXTREMELY loud. We will try it again, but not on a Saturday night.
google avatar

Trisha C.

Yelp
Came here with my SO during their happy hour. We were in the neighborhood, and we wanted to grab something to eat. Fortunately, they had their happy hour until 6, so we decided to stop by. The music list was good, the food was really good, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend their empanada and their Panko Fried Chicken Sando. The empanadas were perfectly cooked and were crispy throughout the empanadas. It is well stuffed-- I prefer the veggies over the meat, but if you want to try both, you can request both. For the sandwich, the chicken was so crispy yet not oily. Absolutely would eat another one if I had the stomach for it.
google avatar

Ploy N.

Yelp
Got to dropby briefly on a Saturday night. Like the vibe and bar setup they've got going on but overall a very small space. Lighting was a bit dim and music was way too loud. I'd really avoid coming here on the weekends at all cost. Very, very crowded. People were snatching chairs left and right. The Green Machine drink was decent. Nothing out of the ordinary. Did hear really good things about the food at Jarana so I'd come back to check that out.

Yelp
Okay so I have a love, not so love relationship with this bar, one one hand the drinks are amazing, specifically the Rick and Shorty and Expresso Martini (best I've had). The short DJ on saturdays is PHENOMENAL lots of old school R&B, rap, some new stuff mixed in with random top hits. However one of the bartenders was overcharging me and my friends for drinks the last time we went we came home and realized we had surplus $20 charges that weren't related to drinks we bought, and one of my drinks I bout ( a $14 drink ) was charged for $20 and he I think just auto tipped him self and didn't give me the receipt to sign/write out what I wanted to tip him. So personally me and my friends will be back but will probably avoid being waited on by him and ask for a different one if he's there again. The bar itself was/is a vibe.
google avatar

Caroline S.

Yelp
Dimmed light - very intimate and perfect for a cute date night. I got the Rick and shorty and it was great for someone who wants a refreshing and sweet cocktail

Aimee I.

Yelp
We went here specifically because they had gluten free options on their menu. I ordered the chicken bowl and after it was served we asked if it had gluten in it as the chicken was clearly breaded. They told us it was gluten free, but then came back after I ate a couple bites and said it was covered in panko. They then told me the gluten free was more upon request. They remade the food gluten free. The menu said nothing about being upon request and I had to spend the next couple days in severe pain due to their misleading menu. They also said they would refund me due to the mistake and never did.

Sharyn F.

Yelp
Really fun place to have a meal. The food is good, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is pure Palm Springs.

Mona B.

Yelp
Super cute ambience with a nice colorful vibes throughout with a side of amazing service and food!!
google avatar

Nilana G.

Yelp
Bit overpriced for very basic drinks and food that required tedious ordering at the bar. Worse yet, made a reservation on Resy even though it seemed half empty on a Thursday night at 7 pm but still got charged a $50 cancellation fee via email after we paid our bill and left. Overall it was all more of a hassle than I would have expected.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Best music I've ever heard at a bar! Went here on a Friday night out and absolutely loved it! Had been at Dig-A-Pony next door dancing but it was crowded and music wasn't the best, so we left to go to Lulu as a less crowded place to continue the night. Immediately when we walked in we loved the music -- the DJ was playing a mix or RnB & hip hop. We thought we'd only be there for 30 minutes but stayed until it closed because the music was too good! There isn't a designated place to dance necessarily, but we stayed in the front and had room to! People were friendly and had a good experience with the bar tenders. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Lulu is a lovely cocktail bar: calm by daylight and busy by evening. I love everything about this place except for the fact that there is only one bathroom. Even with that, the wait has been reasonable and the other patrons have a good sense of humor and have been fun to chat with. The cocktails are delicious. They are $10, with cute names like 'Swipe Right' and 'Fake News'. Some have egg white, which I just love. There's a small selection of food, which I've yet to try, but it sounds good. I like the different seating areas - the front couches by the window are perfect to chat in by daylight. The back area is more open and better for dancing to the music when there's a DJ - but sadly I haven't seen too many people dancing yet. There's also booth/table seats and of course, the lovely bar. The owners have been behind the bar every time I've been here and they're both friendly. The guy who checks IDs at the door is also nice. This place is definitely my choice now for cocktails around this area. It feels a little nicer, without being snobby and they've got good music to compete with Dig A Pony next door. It's also conveniently located near the 6 and 15 bus lines and just a short walk to downtown across the bridge. I'm so glad that they replaced the other bar that used to be here!
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
Visited for the first time this weekend. Great ambiance, attentive service, delicious food (we had the lemongrass chicken wings and fresh rolls). Music wasn't too loud. I would go back!
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
Decided to try this place since it was on the hot and new list and was not disappointed. The drink names are fairly entertaining here, ordered a fake news and it was pretty good. They have pretty decent bar food here, chips and gauc were a pretty good snack. The cheetos torta was quite a unique expirience. A torta with a cheesy crunchy snack inside, yum! The space is pretty open, so it's easy to spread out. Good place for a date!

Yelp
We went in to try the new little fusion restaurant by food trucks Jojo & Matta. This is a beautiful little bar with a lovely array of alcohol displayed in a beautiful fashion. There weren't a huge amount of seats so I could see that this place could get very busy very quickly. We arrived right after they opened, along with about 10 other patrons. Their bartenders were super helpful and informative when it came to subbing drinks that they were out of. We tried their mint lemonade - and wow was it just the perfect amount of mint, tart flavor and lemon. We tried their Bo Kho bahn mi, Saigon hot chicken bahn mi & the loaded jojo's with brussels sprouts. Bo Kho - super juicy beef with a hint of spice, the bagette was the perfect amount of crunch to help soak in all the juice. Highly recommend. Saigon hot chicken - the chicken was crispy and flavorful though I didn't find this to be spicy in the least bit - the Bo Kho was much spicier. So perhaps adding some of the hot sauce, then it'd be much better. Loaded jojo's - HOLY COW! Honestly these were some of the best brussels sprouts I've EVER had. Coconut cream, extra crispy, honestly words can't describe. I highly recommend them as well. Overall I had a really pleasant time here, and everyone was very friendly. If you're in the area, I definitely suggest going.

Yelp
Fantastic craft cocktails. Food is great. Amazing atmosphere. I really loved our bartender.

Tina H.

Yelp
Honestly great staff and great drinks and even better place to have drinks. They are always busy and if it wasn't a weekday we went we might've never been able to try out this great place. Don't remember the bartenders name but he was super sweet and patient with us and knows how to keep a conversation going. Would decide come he
google avatar

Hilary J.

Yelp
Not very impressed overall. My husband and I came here one night for wing week. It was pretty busy, but we sat at the bar and it took much longer than necessary to order any food or drinks from the bartender. They also missed one of our orders of wings. The wings themselves were ridiculously tiny with very little meat on them. Super disappointing. The staff seemed disorganized and struggled with the high volume of customers for sure. Won't be going back.

Natalee W.

Yelp
Amazing food - chef served us and chatted about the meal. The playlist in background was fire too! And drinks were amazing!! Def recommend!
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
They recently updated their food menu and have some great items to go with the drinks. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly with a crispy texture, but moist in the inside. The loaded jojos with bo kho was also great as the flavors went well together.
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
To the owners of Lulus: Please reconsider which company you are hiring for your bouncers. Your bouncer on this particular night was allowing his friends to come in and out while making a line of people wait. Me and my two girlfriends were in the front of the line waiting over 30-40 minutes watching him allow people to cut us and go in and out of the establishment. At one point, I stepped aside to make a phone call, in which he then preceeded to let my two girlfriends in. My girlfriends told the bouncer I'd be in as soon as my phone call ended, but once I tried to get in, he would not let me in--despite me waiting there 45 minutes and knowing of my existence. He told me to get in back of the line, despite allowing other people to cut me. I'm unfortunately not returning and not bringing any of my girlfriends back---it's such a shame because you have a great place--but the economics of a bouncer is quite simple, and you definitely don't want to lose business because the bouncer isn't doing their job properly. I'd highly reconsider who you're hiring as bouncers---as it's not worth losing business for.

Deirdre J.

Yelp
Me and my friends went here on a Wednesday night slow traffic. Maybe 10 ppl including us here. We order a variety of things our food was semi cold like it was waiting under the light for awhile. Basic food but very wonderful ambiance. Might have to try a different night. Maybe not !

Yelp
I stopped in here back in the summer, and besides the server entering me into the point of sale system as "Bar End Gentleman" (his name was apparently "BAR2") and the cocktail named "Swipe Right", the experience was pretty meh (to the point where I didn't write a review). When I saw that Chi Luôn was going in there (collab between the folks behind the Vietnamese cart Matta and jojo cart Jojo), I was definitely intrigued and was able to stop in on a Monday night. This was just 4 days after they'd started the new food service, so the SO and I went in with moderate expectations. The place was busy, and we were able to snag the last two seats at the bar. The SO had a nice holiday take on a moscow mule (cinnamon vodka, fresh cranberries for garnish), while I had what appeared to be their take on a gimlet. Both cocktails were solid. We ordered the bo kho banh mi (braised brisket), as well as the Saigon hot chicken a la carte with a side of jojos. Kitchen was definitely slammed and figuring out service kinks. They clearly knew they were running behind, so we probably got our jojos 15 minutes in, the banh mi was probably another 15 minutes, and the fried chicken was probably another 15 minutes. Staff wasn't super communicative about the slow kitchen, to the point where I saw one customer who came in after us coming up to the bar to ask about the status of the food. Despite the uneven service and long waits, the food was really good. Jojos had great seasoning and the perfect crisp with the soft potato inside, to the point where I was practically having to fight off the SO to make sure I got a fair share of them. The bo kho was good, starting with a solid baguette (apparently from Binh Minh), and nice braised brisket with a spicy kick rounding out the flavors. The Saigon hot chicken was good, though I'm not sure I'd call it a hot chicken. It barely had any spice to it, though it was fried great - nice and crispy outside, moist inside, and tender enough to be able to use a fork to break apart the boneless pieces. While it had clearly been drizzled with chili oil, it lacked any real heat, but the garnishes and the fried batter definitely gave it a nice mix of sweet and savory flavors. Definitely a place I'm hoping to stop back into, hopefully when they work out the new food service kinks

Yelp
Had some HH drinks before dinner and it was amazing. The bartenders here are on point with their drinks and the mini food menu (pop up on the back), was amazing. Best bar nibbles EVER! I wish I could find out the recipe for their dipping sauces.

Yelp
I don't write reviews very often but when I do, it's because the place made an impact. I came here with my boyfriend after his birthday dinner around 6:30 PM on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all! We sat at the bar and the bartender was so welcoming and took the time to describe the cocktails he was making as well as cocktails he has in the works. Every drink he made was DELICIOUS and we're already talking about stopping by on our next trip to Portland. Highly recommend!!

lexy f.

Yelp
Best cocktail bar in Portland! High quality drinks, great music, and the bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly! Food by Jarana is delicious... definitely recommend the salad rolls If you haven't been, you NEED to go!!!

Yelp
I don't get it. Not sure what the rave reviews are about. I have been wanting to try this place since it opened and was excited to finally make it over. To be clear , service was friendly, dining room clean . We ordered a swipe right and fake news. Both were so sugary sweet, I couldn't drink them. I had planned to eat but the menu was extremely limited . We ordered chips and guacamole, which was a teeny tiny scoop of guacamole with stale chips. Prices are normal for good drinks and food, but $26 for whatever this is , not worth it. Luckily there are several other places in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Imagine you're walking while reading, when an apple hits you in the face. You spin around angrily, shaking both fists and demanding to know who threw the Granny Smith. A young man steps forward and shouts, "hey you longhaired nob bopper, your eye has a rock in it!" This was one goll-darn of a day! I ate here twice and it was, at an absolute minimum, slightly better than being hungry and hit in the face with an unripe green apple. They say it takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch. I say "good day, sir." "I said good day."

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! What a fun place. Good liquor selection, friendly bartenders I came on a Friday night. The DJ was amazing. This place is definitely for the grown and sexy and I've been waiting for that vibe. Don't be afraid to come with a low battery, they have wireless charging stations at the bar. High end and not pretentious. The new kitchen is too legit to quit!!! Try the Saigon Hot Chicken and Jojo's. Also please tip the service staff bc it's too often that Portland offers mediocre and this place delivers!!

Yelp
I came across this place on a random night aiming to dance my ars off at the joint next door...long story short I wanted to stay for good cocktails and LuLu does not disappoint. I did not even make it to my intended place! Great bartenders, cool, classy lounge vibe, and great drinks! I will be back.

Yelp
This place is brand new, and I'm excited for another great spot to visit in a crowded little corner of Inner SE PDX. I also really like how their delicious food and drinks are consciously more affordable than one might expect. it's sure to be a popular date spot, and with a drink called the Swipe Right, I hope a lot of Tinder dates choose this as their meeting place. It'd be cute. For drinks we tried the Fake News and the Pretty Ugly. Both were super tasty! I wish I could remember the specific ingredients, but I know that the menu as a whole focuses on fresh fruit flavors, and they really came through. I'd drink here plenty. For food, I had the carnitas quesadilla and my guest had a burrito bowl. We both really liked them, and again... they were affordable. I haven't had a good quesadilla in quite some time, and this one was great. I loved the side of guac, the sauces, and the pico. It tasted very fresh. Service was great. Good barstaff, particularly considering we were there on opening night. So why (a very high and respectable) 4 stars and not 5? The place still feels pretty unfinished. I hope that they're simply not done decorating because the empty walls aren't doing it for me. But that's minor, and I can't believe it'd be the final transformation of the space, so when I'm back again - which will be soon - I anticipate bumping this up to 5.

Yelp
The vibes here are immaculate, Lulu bar is the perfect spot for dates night and girls night out. Vijay and Robert never skips a beat, FUNNY, KIND, HANDSOME AND EXTREMELY FUN, they give LIFE OF THE PARTY it's true meaning. Drinks are always perfectly pour and let me tell you about their food... it is just out of this world. I've try one of everything on the menu but my absolutely favorite is the Lomo Saltado!!!!! meaty , saucey and extremely generous portion. Lulu is god gift to Portland and everyone should go there!

Yelp
Yesterday was my boyfriend and I's "one year anniversary" since moving to Portland! We decided to wanted to go out and try some places we hadn't been to before. LULU popped up on my search for cocktail bars and I LOVED how new it was. Even with the few reviews I read and pictures I saw, I knew we had to go try it. The location of this cocktail bar is so perfect and adds so much to SE Grand and the other places around it. We were eager so we walked in right after 4pm and sat at the bar. Josh helped us out and made the whole experience that much better. Drinks we tried: Pretty Ugly New Fashioned Fake News My boyfriend loved his New Fashioned and ordered it multiple times. While both of my cocktails were GREAT and both used fresh juice, the Fake News was soooo good. It's rare you go somewhere and they use fresh strawberries to make your drink! Josh also let us taste some Mezcal and gave us some flan to help celebrate our year since moving. Really wonderful addition to Portland and we will definitely be back to try more cocktails and their food! OH AND PS! BEST. MUSIC. EVER!

Yelp
Took my friends to Lulu for the first time last week and overall we enjoyed it. I will say the reason I will go back to this place was the cocktails. Amazing cocktails, very inventive and extremely impressive with the way they are mixing different flavors. For example, I had a cocktail on their menu, named GameStop, with Japanese whiskey and ancho chili verde, and I was perplexed how they were going to pull this off and it ended up being delicious and I can't wait to go back and have it again! Besides the yummy cocktails, the food was quite good as well. But, there were a few things that were not exactly ideal. We went on a Thursday night and arrived around 8:15PM, and left around 11pm. The difference of when we arrived and when we left were black-and-white. Around 9:30 PM it started to get incredibly packed and by about 10 PM it was almost full blown night club atmosphere. The music got loud, the lights were low, the energy was high, and it was a really exciting atmosphere overall. Although, with this type of crowd and energy while sitting down for a nice dinner (a bit spendy), the downfall can be that you're yelling across the table to hear each other and it's so crowded when you get up to go order another drink at the bar that you might be waiting quite a while if you're even lucky to squeeze your way through. Beware of this if you choose to come here in the later part of the evening. For my friends and me, this is not a dealbreaker. We enjoy a great atmosphere and even though it wasn't ideal, we appreciated the present moment. Though, I can easily see this being frustrating if you expect a sit down dining experience. We started with the Peruvian fries and gluten-free calamari, and both were delicious. The fries were very flavorful with the sauces and toppings, and definitely filling. Then my friends and I ordered a couple entrées to share, the ceviche and the wings and noodles dish. Unfortunately, the entrées took over an hour to come out, even though it didn't appear any other tables were waiting on food. We weren't sure we were going to get our food at all. And it wasn't easy for us to be able to check on our food since what is bar counter service and it was so crowded. Luckily, this was acknowledged right away from the food runner/busser who brought the entrées out and offered to give us a free dessert to make up for the long wait time. Overall, it seems that LuLu is intentionally drawing in that nighttime young party crowd past 9 PM, and that works really well for the establishment. But if you don't anticipate that, you might be in for a surprise. Especially as it appears to be more of a sit down restaurant. Again, not a bad thing that it was more of a night cocktail lounge; honestly it was fun and sexy, and we still had a good time. I will be back, but personally might avoid the late night club scene unless I'm in the mood for that particular setting, though I think it would be a great place to grab cocktails earlier in the night.
