"After being closed in March 2020 (with only a brief, week-long reopening that summer), Lulu — the chic, forest-green cocktail lounge on SE Grand Avenue — is set to reopen under co-owner Vijay Kumar with some cosmetic upgrades like new leather seats and fresh wallpaper. The revived space will feature a drinks program that keeps standbys such as the kiwi-and-mezcal Pretty Ugly and the New Fashioned, adds pisco (including pisco sours) and experiments with Japanese ingredients in cocktails, and pairs the menu with a wine list leaning toward funky, natural wines (two taps for white and rosé plus a small selection of bottles). Lulu will operate from 4 p.m. to midnight on Wednesdays and 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and when it reopens (targeted for the weekend of the 23rd, though Kumar may delay to get things right) Jarana PDX will be running the kitchen so diners can find late-night plates like ceviche, oysters, and empanadas alongside cocktails." - Alex Frane
