"The Morgan Park location is a breakfast and brunch destination on the South Side; the restaurant is typically packed for after-church meals on Sundays, WBEZ reports. The pandemic has since significantly lessened the number of diners, who order eggs, French toasts, crepes, Belgian waffles, and more." - Naomi Waxman

This was my first time at this location. The place itself was bit outdated, but it was very cozy and clean. We got seated right away when we arrived around 2:00pm. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the food. I was craving soup and a sandwich kind of combo. My husband suggested that we go here. For my entree, I got the Malibu Check Handheld with provolone cheese and waffle fries, but they gave me regular ones. No complains there. Fries are fries. My husband got the Turkey Club Handheld and he enjoyed it too. The meal came with a cup of cream of chicken soup and saltines. Everything was delicious! Service could have been a bit better, but our waitress and hosts were very polite.

I hadn't been in atleast 10 years. Still consistent, still feels like a family. My photo can't describe the flavors of the skillet I have nor the vegetarian skillet my friend has. The photo is mid, the food is consistently good though. I go early enough that multiple phone conversations aren't happening, no face time calls, TikToks weren't playing in the background. If you just wanna chill early on a Sunday morning with older people, eat some good breakfast, go home and watch football this may work for you. "perfect for a hangover" It was so peaceful, lol.

Delicious entrees. I haven’t been here for some years but it was just as I remembered it. Tasty and quick

First time at the restaurant. I’ve heard good things about it so finally my family and I decided to try it. We were seated right away. The server took our orders not too long after being seated. It took a long time for our food to come out. We had to ask for refills on our drinks a couple of times. The food was just okay to me and my family. I wish they would disclose they put pineapples on the Mickey Mouse pancakes, because my child didn’t like that. And the food was a bit pricey for breakfast. To me it was an average breakfast spot.

We came here for my granny 77th bday. This is our first time here. The service was great by Alison and the speed of service was amazing. We are a group of 9 and I swear the food was out in about 10 minutes. Very nice diner. The restaurant is clean as well as the bathroom. I didn’t care for my Louisiana grit bowl it was sort of flavorless. But that’s just my opinion nothing to do with the restaurant. All of the other entrees were amazing. I really liked the gyro skillet.

Google
Everything was delicious. It was a bit crowded so we had to wait [not too long] for a server. Only thing I didn't like was the way the host greeted us and took us to be seated. He just sort of grunted as he waved his hand to show us a table that we declined and asked for another seating.

Don't get it twisted it's not s soul food joint w/salmon croquettes. Nonetheless plenty dishes to from and many are diet friendly in preference to gluten free & turkey bacon.I had sweet potato fries and tuna melt,😋

I recently visited Lumes Pancake House and had an incredible breakfast experience that left me wanting more. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and mouthwatering pancakes filled the air, instantly whetting my appetite. I decided to try something different and ordered their waffles with cinnamon apple slices, and boy, was it a fantastic choice! The presentation of the dish was impeccable, with golden-brown waffles adorned with a generous amount of perfectly cooked cinnamon apple slices. Each bite was a heavenly combination of fluffy waffles and tender, caramelized apples bursting with flavors. The waffles were achieving a delightful balance of crispy edges and a soft, pillowy center. The cinnamon apple slices added a delightful hint of sweetness and warmth, perfectly complementing the waffles. It was a match made in brunch heaven! The service was exceptional. The staff members were super friendly. They promptly attended to our needs and ensured that we were comfortable throughout our visit. The menu was extensive, offering a wide variety of pancake and waffle options, making it a great place for both classic and adventurous brunch enthusiasts. Whether you're a pancake aficionado or a waffle lover like myself, Lumes Pancake House is a must-visit destination. I can confidently say that their waffles are a standout dish, and I can't wait to return and explore more of their delightful menu offerings. Kudos to the Lumes Pancake House team for creating such a memorable dining experience!

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick breakfast and was pleasantly surprised that I never dined here due to its proximity to my neighborhood. The place was full and there was still plenty of seating. I was promptly greeted and sat in a booth with a menu and a few specials. Decided to try the shrimp and grits since I hadn't eaten them outside the southeast. They exceeded my expectations. Service was fast and friendly, food hot and delicious. Definitely will return!

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant and right in my neighborhood. My father used to bring me here in the 90s when they opened and I remember really enjoying the food. However, my experience today let me know I shouldn't patronize this business any more. Each time I've come here over the past few years, I've been unimpressed. Today this became increasingly clear. I ordered a corned beef hash meal with cheesy grits. As you can see from my photos, the grits came with a couple of slices of cheese over top, and not mixed in. Neither the grits nor the eggs had a lick of seasoning on them - no salt and no pepper. I added this myself at home. The pancakes were fairly tasty. I asked for blueberries to be added into the mix, for which I paid an additional $3. Overall, my experience was lackluster. My breakfast, with me adding cheese and blueberries, came to $22.23, which was way too expensive for the food I received. I just can't recommend Lumes, and I won't return.

Yelp
I tried this place (116th & Western location) for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. I had no idea that it was a chain, until I went to write this review. Nice place: Good food, good service, for was delivered quickly and was freshly cooked. All in all, nice spot for breakfast.

Jackie R.

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast spots. I try something new each time. Each time I'm left satisfied. The kids love the food & the coloring pages they have.

Nicole H.

Yelp
I ordered through Grubhub for pickup . It didn't take long-roughly 15-30 minutes. The place was pretty packed. The food was good. I especially liked the skillet. The ingredients seemed of good quality. I'd definitely make another purchase.

Yelp
Came in during the week at brunch hours between 10-1. Very quiet, not crowded, excellent customer service. I had an omelette, it was huge, you're definitely not going to eat much else with that. I wished I would've glanced at the specials before predictably ordering the same thing. They don't serve alcohol so you will be drinking juice lol.. the prices were reasonable and everything was served hot. I'd definitely come back. No complaints

D J.

Yelp
117th Western...good homestyle restaurant. They do not skimp on the amount of food you are given.

Jesse Q.

Yelp
Awesomeness place friendly staff great food Love the Grits with strawberries and banana Always hot the staff are always nice the 3 times I've been in here even my 1st waitress made a point of saying my name its great to be recognized

Kay S.

Yelp
Still the best breaksfast food around! Gluten free, substitutions no prob! Great service, really delish food!

Marc D.

Yelp
I enjoyed breakfast. We were seated shortly. Clerks were getting the customers fed efficiently. I was trying to take my medicine and had to wait a long time for water. I told her to bring a pitcher so would not have to wait again. The food was tasty and portion size was good.

Howard B.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Lume's in at least 10 yrs,and in that time the portions as well as overall presentation/ quality of the food has gone down. I had steak and eggs with a side of bacon, the steak was chopped up but did not appear to be 4 ounces and had no detectable seasoning.Had my portion been larger and better seasoned the price would have been acceptable but it wasn't.I suspect the ownership has changed and I didn't get the memo.

Marie F.

Yelp
I've been here several times and it has always been a pleasant experience. Great breakfast spot and the service is always great. It can get crowded but it is worth the wait. I have never waited more than 10 mins. I always order a turkey bacon omelette with american cheese, Hash browns, and French Toast. I have had an issue with my order once where I got something completely different from what I normally order. But other than that I have had a good experience.

Rene D.

Yelp
Great food and the customer service is always great! Parking is available..... love this place

Yelp
It's a family tradition to come to Lume's after family gatherings in Illinois! This weekend had the best ending at a restaurant that I've came to since I was a little girl! I've tried so many dishes here, and have never left disappointed! Today's breakfast was nothing short of amazing! My family had 6 tables and our waitress Jessica was a BOSS and navigated each table wonderfully!

Amit V.

Yelp
Enjoyed my bottomless cup of coffee, the food was a plenty for breakfast including eggs, pancakes, and breakfast meats.

George F.

Yelp
I got up early and ordered a breakfast fiesta omelette for my wife with sausage. I ordered it there. I waited for it. I got home to give her the breakfast. It was scrambled eggs, onions, and peppers which are expecting a Southwest omelette. Hey ordered sausage links into my surprise, they were absolute shit. They were literally dollar store brown and serves oh and they charged me $25.

Regelle D.

Yelp
Always consistent with great food and nice service! The owners welcome you and are actively working with staff to make for the best breakfast experience! A true Chicago gem

Sharina R.

Yelp
The food LOOKED good but wasn't seasoned AT ALL! Also, a few modifications turned a $15 omelette into a $25 omelette which is RIDICULOUS. Customer service was actually amazing which makes me sad to have to leave 3 stars. But the food was too mediocre.

LaTasha D.

Yelp
The ambiance and the service is great. The cooks can use a few tips. As a chef and food connoisseur, my taste buds play a major role in how I feel about food. I ordered a steak skillet, steak was terrible, not seasoned, and extremely fatty. Also, I received very little in my skillet. The eggs and hash brown, also had no seasoning and it wasn't well cooked, it was more medium well. The pancakes has no fluff, just flat. I packed up my food and brought home, tried seasoning and warming, it didn't help. Food gives off a different taste when seasoned before or while cooking, than it does if seasoned after cooking. The coffee was good! I DO NOT recommend this place, if you prefer seasoned food.

Len L.

Yelp
Seems to be a neighborhood breakfast diner that still chugging along here in Chicago. I pass thru this area twice a week and I see that this place gets pretty busy and decided to see what the hype is all about. Plenty of tables more tables then parking spots and waitress moving up and down the floor serving coffee and meals. We sat down and eggs and crapes and my favorite, the biscuit and gravy with a side of corn-beef hash. Food came fast, the coffee refill was the slowest. all meals were decent. I would come back for a quick breakfast.

Camille R.

Yelp
This is one of my go to breakfast spots in the neighborhood. I have been coming here for many years. The place is always packed and the parking lot is always full. If you come on the weekend, be prepared to wait if you come with the church crowd. However, the wait is no more than ten to fifteen minutes. The breakfast menu has also options and they can even make something for you that may not be on the menu. The menu also offers lunch options if breakfast is not your thing. The waitress are like family as most of them have worked there for over ten to twenty years. If you are in the area and want a good quick hearty breakfast with a smile, then stop and enjoy!

Laura D.

Yelp
I've been to the Lumes in Orland Park which is a great place. I went to this location for the first time today July 25 for breakfast, and what a disappointment. This location needs some major updating, even the exterior signage is outdated. Look at the pictures for the Orland Park location and you'll see a huge difference. I had the crepes, they were way thicker then what a normal crepe should be and really had no taste to them. I had some ham on the side and it looked like lunchmeat ham. Orland Park location did not serve like this. The hallway leading to the restroom smelled really bad. The only positive thing I could say was that the server who waited on us, she was super nice and very attentive. I do not recommend this place.

Roxy H.

Yelp
I just want breakfast done right. No fancy waffles stuffed with cheese, no frilly soggy avocado toast and no blah eggs. I don't want to wait an hour for a table to eat a good breakfast either. Lumes never fails. I have never had to wait for a table at Lumes longer than 15 minutes. The staff is helpful and friendly. Your order literally comes out minutes after you order it. They play no games. The pancakes are delicious and fluffy. Today, I popped over to Lumes after trying to go to the Original Pancake House further north on Western Ave. why was I trying to eat elsewhere is beyond me. Ended up at Lumes, got seated right away. Ordered and received my food right away. Had a super good country skillet (was able to switch my protein from ham to chicken sausage) with pancakes. The skillet was so darn good. Cooked perfectly with onions, green pepper, potatoes, mushrooms, eggs and chicken sausage. I was so satisfied with my meal. Definitely will continue to be a returning customer. Highly recommend!

Darlene N.

Yelp
I had a friend in town who used to live in Chicago and suggested we go here for breakfast. I had never been here. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. The waitress cracked me up - you can tell she's been a waitress there for awhile. She was friendly and took our order. I had the blueberry pancakes with chicken sausage and hashbrowns. My meal was just okay - the pancakes weren't soft, they were kind of crisp on the bottom. I have had better chicken sausage. Now, I will say that my friend's breakfast was on point. She got a turkey bacon omelette which she let me taste and it was very tasty and a nice sized omelette. I would never think of ordering an omelette with turkey bacon in it (pork bacon is my lover, lol). As I was finishing my meal, I noticed a piece of hair on my plate (pictured). I let the waitress know and at first, she was like "oh well" but I think it was because she didn't quite know how to react. She came back and apologized and told me she would take it off the bill. Because I enjoyed the turkey bacon omelette sample, I asked if I could order that which the waitress said "yes". She did apologize a couple of times. The omelette was good. I enjoyed breakfast with my friend but Lumes is really not a place that I'm feeling great about returning to for obvious reasons.

Chandra P.

Yelp
For a Sunday morning our wait time was ideal, less than 10 minutes. The menu has a lot of options for anyone, and accommodations/substitutes can be made to all of the meal options. The skillet is very filling and can feed two people, the pancakes were decent. The omelette was filled with vegetables, but not enough cheese. Overall the food and customer service was good; and I would return.

Mary S.

Yelp
Consistently good breakfast. But care more about Mother Earth and ditch the styrofoam to go containers. Terrible for the environment .

Pooh B.

Yelp
I'm here right now! July 19,2020 @ 12:48pm... I'm waiting on my food and a man give us water my friend notice a bug in the water I told the guy. He first acted like u didn't see if then he went behind the Counter and set the water with the bug down and got us another one but what disgusted me was that the guy gave the water to another set of ppl and YES IM SURE OF THIS I saw it with my own two eyes... the food was cold the first round..

Kay C.

Yelp
First time at this location. I've been to the Frankfort location. We enjoyed a family Breakfast w a group of 12. Great service and food.

Jakia D.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday morning around 11. Only waited about 7-8 minutes for a table for four. Bella was our waitress, she was very nice. Could've came back to our table a bit more often but she was ok. The food was good. Even though I asked for hash browns, their hasn't browns are more like potatoes. Not really browned and crispy like normal. But overall, a good breakfast for about $8.

Raelesha G.

Yelp
This is one of the nastiest places I've to in a long time. The eggs were cold. The bacon and sausage was microwaveable. The pancakes were dry and lumpy. The price were far more than what the food was worth because I could've have gotten a better breakfast from KFC, and they don't even serve breakfast! This is the last place I would ever visit again.

Mark D.

Yelp
I love the gluten free options for my family members with food allergies! Fast and friendly service, reasonable prices!

Madia P.

Yelp
Lumes is a neighborhood breakfast place that I've patronized on many occasions. Honestly, I was apprehensive about going because of the pandemic and shooting, but I gave it another chance. I can say that I was happy with my waiter and food. This is not a fancy breakfast/brunch restaurant. The food is ordinary, but still good. My only concern was the fact that I didn't see the waiters wearing gloves when serving food or sanitize their hands. The waiter's thumb on my place made me cringe a little. At the end of the day, I still recommend this establishment on any day.

Janie P.

Yelp
"Lume's" (Chicago / Beverly neighborhood) Went for breakfast. Comfortable family restaurant (clean, late 80's decor). Service very good (30-year employee, Violet, our server asscoffee cups were never below half-full. Menu selections fairly standard, nothing "out of the box" unusual. Portions plentiful. (I took home half of each item ordered, i.e., Spartan omelet, (comes with hash browns, 2-buttermilk pancakes or toast); side order bacon. Juice selection more varied than most places (five listed). Prices comparable to area, above average rating for food portion size to dollar value ratio. Will return. Would recommend.

Teresa B.

Yelp
Awesome place, friendly staff and great food. I Love the Grits with strawberries and banana. All around great experience! Definitely a place I would come back to again and again.

April M.

Yelp
The food here whether breakfast or otherwise is to die for. The ample portions, fast and friendly service, eat-in or take out. If you have never been to Lumes Pancake House you have to go. It puts The Original Pancake House next door to shame.

Rashonda H.

Yelp
This is a very nice place for breakfast the service is very nice and the food is great . My coffee was hot and fresh And wow I loved the pancakes This is a must check out You will enjoy the service and fast wait staff.

JenJenn S.

Yelp
The food was GREAT! The service was quick and the restaurant was calm & quite. I really enjoyed myself.

Christa H.

Yelp
This is a nice breakfast restaurant for a family outing! My daughter was happy to get a Mickey Mouse pancake, decorated with fruit. She said it was delicious, so I'll take her 5-year old word for it. I got pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash browns - all very decent, nothing spectacular. I had to send back the grilled chicken breast, it lacked flavor.

Maiesha T.

Yelp
I met a girlfriend here for a late lunch date. Neither of us had ever been but the place has great reviews. It wasn't busy when we arrived but it was also close, about 30 minutes, from closing time. Our waitress was very friendly and didn't rush us one bit. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll stop by.

Jesse P.

Yelp
The spot is usually very hit or miss to me. Placed an order today for a old country skillet and picked it up and brought it home and it was probably the blandest skillet I've ever ate my life. It was around 75% potatoes 20% egg and 5% ham, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. Even drenched in hot sauce it was still very bland. Hopefully it was just a one-time deal today cause they were busy. I've been there before to eat in person where the food was a lot better than what I received today.

Lisa V.

Yelp
So glad we live so close to this Lumes location! Very convenient for us and we are lucky because rooms is very consistent and deliciously so. The wait staff is very professional and friendly and the food is always great. One of my very top favorites and that of my son is their Dutch baby. It takes a little time to cook... About 40 minutes, but it's definitely worth the wait! Ask for extra extra powdered sugar on the side and extra lemon on the side. Drown that sucker in those condiments and you will absolutely love it! Coffee is good but not fantastic. The only thing I will say is if you get there after 9 o'clock in the morning, expect a wait. Weekends are really tough. Weekdays can even sometimes be a little crowded so the earlier you get there the better. You can't go wrong with Lumes. (117th Western ave. Chicago)

Alzetta H.

Yelp
I've never ever ever, in my whole life liked corn beef hash...until Lumes! Not only was it good, but it's pretty amazing. I ordered the Lousiana omelette. It has andouille sausages, green pepppers, onions and pepper jack cheese. The flavor was great but the amount of egg was a little excessive. Yes, I ordered an omelette but I'm not a huge egg lover. Go figure... The servings here are enormous. The quality of the food is good. Definitely will return. Tasted my husband's corn beef hash this trip, going for that corn beef hash skillet next trip.

Ingrid C.

Yelp
1st I'd like to say Lumes has been a long standing favorite of my friends and family their food was great fast and hot, service customer friendly.... If I could give -4 stars I would. I won't make this post long..... Just need to know that I got the exact opposite of the above mentioned. The food was cold, so cold by the time a Manager did come to see our complaint the butter still had not melted on the gritty pancakes, the waitress although she tried, was overwhelmed. She did take my plate however the entire family of 4 had complaints about their food food as well and she left the plates there and went for the manager, The manager responded and then left as well, he took so long to come back my entire family stood up and went to the cash register. As I get my wallet out to take out my credit card I ask the manager, "Hey can we get the adjusted bill or no bill whatever you decided so that we can leave." The manager states "I took the meal off that you sent back." My reply to him as I brought to his attention, "The waitress just never came back but that we all complained about our food not being up to part and that he still had 3 full plates over at the table minus 1 or 2 bites, enough to understand that the meal was not pleasurable or to the palette's liking of what we are used to being served from that establishment. I'll pay something for the time and effort but $58 was not fair sense we literally have to leave here and still go find something to eat because we are still hungry." It was at that time a large man came from behind the register snatched the receipt out of the Manager's hand crumpled the receipt, threw it in the garbage as he barked at me while waving his hand as if he were motioning to a dog with the words "Nevermind.... just leave...... OUT!" Offensive, disgusting unprofessional display of customer service on the Manager and Owners part. Their customers deserve better. It was not on us that you served us a meal that we could not eat. FYI on this date we definitely were not the only table complaining we noticed at least 3 tables around our surrounding areas complaining of said same. Needless to say I won't be back, and I will not have kind words to say whenever someone asks me of Lumes as well, when someone asks for referral I will absolutely invoke "whatever you do don't go to Lumes!" Do better

Saraena S.

Yelp
I love LUMES the food is always great but I love my life too & they doing walk up shooting at your establishment so it's a no go for me. I hope you all deliver because I'm allergic to bullets.

Sal P.

Yelp
Take my family here every week for breakfast/lunch after church, and often bring business clients for lunch meetings, great staff great food, love Lumes they take care of the neighborhood, and people.

Lareda W.

Yelp
My friends and I dined in this restaurant only to get food poisoning from the chicken noodle soup, when I say all three of us had symptoms mines were the worst!!! Never again will I ever done in this restaurant again!!!! Customers beware of this establishment, Not the cleanest place to dine....,

Alyson H.

Yelp
I love Lumes. I literally have never had a bad waiter or waitress. Very close to home and you don't have to wait.

Richard R.

Yelp
You can hurt yourself eating here... seriously. If you are a regular reader of my reviews, you know they can be pretty lengthy. I've been told I practically need to include a table of contents. Admittedly I am aware of this, but I enjoy painting a picture of my experiences instead of just saying "the food was good, the servers were nice and the decor was great." I want you to feel like you are there with me, so that's how I write. However, most of my Chicagoland area reviews will likely be much shorter, because Chicago holds a special place in my memory banks. Everything about this city calls out to my native soul. So it's hard to describe the experience of returning home in words that would make sense to anyone but me. THE SCENE I love this city and every bite of a good meal floods me with decades of memories. I can still remember walking into places like Lumes as a toddler with my grandmother and eating breakfast in my booster seat. Lumes was not around when I was a kid, but the taste, the look, and the spirit of these place is very much how I remember the restaurants of old. The waitresses in their diner-like uniforms, the bus boys busy clearing tables almost immediately after you stand to leave... and the warm greetings you receive from staff welcoming you to dine. Lumes is classic Chicago. THE FOOD I can't remember the last time I had a breakfast that included a GIANT five egg omelette loaded with sausage, onions, peppers and cheese on a plate the size of Alaska for under $10. If that weren't enough, included in the price was a troth of hash browned potatoes and two warm and fluffy buttermilk pancakes server with delicious syrup and room temperature whipped butter. What I love even more is that I come from a family that does not allow visitors to pay for food. My Uncle practically broke my arm when I reached for the check. Even though I didn't pay, I can say for certain you get your monies worth here. THE VERDICT Without a lot of overly descriptive adjectives, let me just simply say we enjoyed EVERYTHING about this place. The food, the service, the old school decor and especially the fact that they call sodas "pop" here in the Midwest! I miss that so much and got the biggest thrill when my waitress asked if I wanted water, juice or POP!!!! They serve you more food that you could reasonably eat for barely anything in terms of cost, so yeah... don't hurt yourself trying to finish your plate. Yelp100[56]
