"The temporarily closure of this retro-kitsch diner has thankfully come to an end and you can once more get a “hobo” at Luna Park — that’s your choice of breakfast toppings mixed up with eggs and hash browns. If you’re feeling fancy, you can get an “omelet,” but the hobo is Luna Park Cafe’s contribution to diner cuisine." - Meg van Huygen, Gabe Guarente, Harry Cheadle

"You can drive to West Seattle without stopping at Luna Park Cafe, but why would you do that? This long-standing, ultra-reliable diner is like what people in the ‘80s thought the ‘50s looked like, with vintage Coke ads, bright blue booth seats, and a logo that looks like... Satan? It’s actually one of the performers from the old, nearly forgotten Luna Park amusement park, but it could be Satan too, if you’re into that." - Harry Cheadle

"Owner John Bennett took over the World War II-era building (then occupied by a run-down bar) in 1989 and has been a neighborhood staple ever since, surviving the pandemic and the West Seattle Bridge closure. Last September Bennett announced the restaurant would close for a couple of months for cleaning, repairs, and a systems update. This took longer than anticipated, but now Luna Park is back in business seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Even better, according to Vanishing Seattle there are plans to extend those hours into dinner in the near future." - Harry Cheadle

What a kind staff! We asked for a pineapple milkshake, and though it wasn’t on the menu the staff found a way to make one – and it was exceptionally good. Fantastic staff, great atmosphere, and the best public jukebox in Seattle. Definitely worth a return trip!

My hubbie loved his Eggs Benny. Hash browns were amazing! I had the waffles they were good. Did have to pay extra for strawberries and whip cream and portion size of toppings was small but I hear if you ask they will take very good care of you. We will be back next time we’re in Seattle.

I was looking forward to trying this cafe with all the positive reviews, but was really disappointed with their eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was off and didn’t taste right. It also looked a little suspect. I would maybe return to try other options. Upside is service is friendly and quick, and they’re dog friendly with outdoor seating. Parking is a bit difficult on the weekend, but not too much of a stretch.

Breakfast Done Right (and Fast!) - West Seattle History Luna Park Cafe is one of those places that just makes mornings better. I stopped by at 8 AM, and the service was spot on—friendly, attentive, and refreshingly free of forced small talk before coffee. The vibe? Vintage diner meets retro roadside charm. Think antique signs, quirky decor, and just the right amount of kitsch—fun without feeling like a thrift store exploded. Unlike some “nostalgic” spots, it’s clean, uncluttered, and has zero chance of dust becoming an unwanted seasoning. The food is classic American diner fare, but executed perfectly every time. No reinvented eggs Benedict with a truffle foam—just straightforward, delicious breakfasts that hit the spot. And let’s talk about the coffee. This isn’t your typical weak, sad diner drip. They serve Caffe Vita, and it’s got enough kick to launch you into your day without a second thought. It’s also got a setup that works for just about anyone—grab a solo seat at the bar if you’re feeling low-maintenance, or bring the kids (mine love it here) and make a morning of it. The food comes out fast, the prices are fair, and the staff finds that sweet spot between being there when you need them and leaving you to sip your coffee in peace. The only downside? Parking can be a bit of a circus, so plan ahead. But if you’re looking for a reliably great breakfast with a side of West Seattle charm, Luna Park Cafe is always a solid choice.

The service was great and the decor is so unique and creative. Lots of things and bright colours to look at. Really had a pleasure sitting at the bar for breakfast. To my surprise the vegan fried steak was so delicious. I don't usually go for the vegan items but I was incredibly curious. Will Def be back for this. The potatoes were well seasoned too. Hard to find in bland Seattle.

Google
It’s not often you get a traditional diner experience when you have dietary restrictions, so I was eager to eat here after discovering the vegan menu! The interior is bursting with character and maintains the fun, retro feel you hope for. I ordered the waffle plate, which was even better than I expected. Of course the waffle was the star of the show (don’t miss out on the strawberry sauce), but I was suprised at how great the sides of tofu scramble and bacon were. The peanut butter milkshake with non-dairy ice cream was so thick I could barely get it through the straw - delicious! My favorite touch was “Sausage’s specials”, named after the very sweet black cat that is often found hanging out around the parking lot.

Google
I could see us coming back here at some point for the quirky, retro decor, but not for the food. The breakfast dishes were similarly priced as other west Seattle breakfast/brunch spots but the quality of food was inferior. I had the eggs Benedict: the poached egg and home fries were great, but the hollandaise was lacking flavor and the English muffin was poor quality. The people working there were pleasant, and nicely accommodating of children. However, we were disappointed to hear a different waitress tell her table about the specials when we had already ordered and hadn’t been informed there were any specials. The decor is the most interesting part of this place- a mix of retro and carnival themed. It was cool to see a retro jukebox at each table, but we never learned if it worked as no music played in the restaurant while we were there.

Google
Welcome to the new owner! Happy to see that hash browns are back!!! Polo/paulo Greeted me and was incredibly friendly and efficient. Food was great! Friendly efficient staff . I'm looking forward to many more yummy meals at Luna Park. Also, thank you for keeping all the unique and nostalgic items on the walls and ceilings: love it!! Excellent in all regards ❤️

Yelp
Amazing spot! And perfect for a great diner and breakfast experience! Amazing prices and the staff was really great. I recommend the breakfast burrito. They have lots of vegan options! Funky but classic diner :) love it!

Yelp
Use to frequent Luna before they shut down for renovations and the recent change in ownership, was always a solid 4 star option. Unfortunately, something was amiss the with our breakfast: overcooked eggs with omelet, barely toasted sourdough, overcooked pancake, tiny kids menu portions; but the kicker was it is simply very overpriced. Easy Street is better quality with more quantity at a fraction of the cost. Sorry Luna, we probably won't be back.

Matt B.

Yelp
An old school American diner that doesn't try to be fancy and instead gives you the authentic, breakfast diner experience. Plus there's a sizeable, all-vegan section of the menu, which prompted us to try the place. I ordered the Vashon tofu scramble ($15 plus tax), which come with zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, onion, tomatoes & vegan cheddar mixed in, a portion of home fries/breakfast potatoes, and choice of bread. This was tasty enough, the tofu being well-seasoned and moist enough. My wife got the vegan pancakes ($14 plus tax), which come with tofu scramble and a choice of vegan meat (she got breakfast sausage). The bite of pancakes I tried was pretty solid -- the portion was massive. Friendly, fast service. A good breakfast diner experience in West Seattle.

Monique T.

Yelp
Visited on our way out of town, so glad we did! Lil mom & pop feel diner, has an old school vibe with some much life and history in the decor. Tables and booth seating. From the host to the waitress loved the services. When we got the chicken fried chicken the outside was perfect but inside was still cold. We informed the waitress she took it back no problem. Instead of replacing just the chicken she replaced the whole plate it was appreciated & it was done in a timely manner. Food came out quick & we were checked on often. Definitely coming back.

Mark H.

Yelp
Big portions, took leftovers. Hobo-style omelette! Friendly place with limited parking.

Sarah R.

Yelp
We really wanted to love this place. It definitely is diner style which makes it cool but it also feels slightly dirty. The food is fine nothing crazy delicious. And best milkshakes? Don't think I'd go that far. We've gone for lunch, milkshakes and cinnamon rolls on 3 separate occasions and all three were let downs. $10 for a cinnamon roll that is small and not that good. The service is always good though!

Yelp
We are moving to Oregon later this week, and my wife and I had to visit Luna Park one more time before leaving after 17 years in West Seattle. And of course I had to have a milk shake...ha ha. My wife is vegetarian, and they have the most options I have seen that are great choices for her. She had the Barbara's Scramble, and I had one of my favorites here, the eggs Benedict. I have enjoyed the fact Luna Park uses ham versus Canadian bacon. And yes, the chocolate milk shake, with whip cream, was stellar. Our server was so friendly and just so sincere. She wished us good luck in Oregon, as she had made the trip to Washington from Alabama. The music was playing some great old ones also. Thank you Luna Park for providing such phenomenal memories. I would often choose to celebrate my birthday here as well.

Kate R.

Yelp
Ordered take out from here and found mold on my bun. Have gone here a few times prior and had an okay experience. Great staff and people but need to improve their quality.

Ray I.

Yelp
The decor is delightfully kitsch. The milkshakes are delish. Breakfast and lunch and right on point. Burgers and club sandwiches are great. Breakfast is also solid. Omelets, hobos or piles; either way yummy! Stop by for a meal and stay for the next.

Leah W.

Yelp
Breakfast was Ok at Luna Cafe ! Want a fabulous breakfast try the Hudson in Georgetown now they r at least 5 stars !

John R.

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating under an umbrella. We were seated and given menus and water by a friendly new hostess. After waiting an awkwardly long time for someone to take our order, the hostess came back to check on us. Finally a server came and apologized for the mixup in whose table this was... After a few minutes she brought us a complimentary and delicious cinnamon roll to enjoy while we waited for the food. The smash burger and milkshake that we shared was delicious and I highly recommend this quirky restaurant.

Jen S.

Yelp
The ambiance and all the old collectibles was worth the visit! We also met Sausage the resident outside cat.‍ I had two eggs over easy, home fried potatoes (which were just the potato squares that are bought in mass), sour dough toast and a coffee milkshake. The food was good, simple, diner food - due to what we chose. My wife had a Veggie pile and an English muffin and a very good Bloody Mary. Worth the visit! The service was great!

Elliot M.

Yelp
We were originally there to go the "the spot" but they were closed so we went next door the decor is so fun we got seated quickly at the even tho they were busy are food was great and came fast they have a lot of vegan options to even with ice cream and all the staff was nice

Sohan P.

Yelp
The cinnamon roll here is to die for. It is perfectly baked and so soft in each bite with a perfect amount of icing. You really can't go wrong. Everyone at Luna Park Cafe is so friendly. I was waiting for my colleagues for over 40 minutes due to some car troubles they had, and the restaurant had no issue with me hanging out even when they got busy. Make sure this place is on your list when visiting West Seattle!

Cathy M.

Yelp
We have come here many times before, introducing visitors and house guests along the way because they have made SUCH amazing milkshakes. Hot fudge dipped milkshake glasses, steel cup remainder served on the side, so many flavors to choose from, used to love it. Came here today, again bringing visitors to the region, dropped $100 on milkshakes for the crew and got a plastic cup , Starbucks impersonating disappointment, with a healthy dose of condescension on the side when we asked what happened. Please bring back your previous standards!

Robert K.

Yelp
Ahhh the wonderful mysterious Luna park. I am kind of glad of the reopening and the staff was fabulous. The memorabilia of the place is very nice but also a bit overwhelming. The food was great. Ended up eating the carnivore pile which had everything you needed and more. The vegan biscuit was great as long as you had a bit of butter and jam to go with it cause it was a bit dry. The milkshake was everything you needed to end a great meal. The chocolaty and creaminess was everything you needed to end off a big breakfast. Definitely will be coming back for more of the odd atmosphere and great service.

Damon G.

Yelp
Tried it again after several years and am impressed. The food is decent, service is good, and the ambience is worth noting. The staff seem to really care which is a vast improvement over my prior experiences a few years ago. I'm hopeful Luna will be able to maintain momentum and will become a regular breakfast destination.

Dave A.

Yelp
Great local diner for breakfast of all kind. Satisfies cravings for everything from benedicts to biscuits n' gravy. Haven't been for burgers/lunch. Recommend if you're in the West Seattle area!

Michele S.

Yelp
Excellent old school 50's diner ambiance. I like it more for the vibe than the actual food, which is pretty standard lunch and breakfast offerings (though the breakfast potatoes are better than most if you like plump and crunchy cubes). It's nice to have a place open 7 days a week. Service is functional and friendly. This a great place to tuck away in on a rainy morning with your honey or a friend you want to catch up with.

J K.

Yelp
It's a wonderful bit of Seattle history. You go there for the vibe, not the food. Good people.

Joshua L.

Yelp
This place is so great. Came on a Sunday for brunch and it was busy but was seated pretty quickly. Parking in the area isn't bad and the service is great. The food is classic diner food and really a great atmosphere. Lots of character in this seattle staple and definitely worth checking out.

Kate S.

Yelp
Great food- very good- eggs cooked to perfection. The problem is the wait staff. We were seated and our order was taken right away- food delivered (not by our waiter) very fast and was perfect . Then we waited.. and waited. No coffee refills.. nothing. Asked the manager (I think) if we could pay our bill.. "no, your waiter has to do that." Tried getting his attention- walked right past us several times. Asked the manager again- nope. Finally- got our bill and paid. It was perfect until the last 45 minutes waiting for our bill. They either need to make payment available to all staff or remind the current staff that they have customers that want to leave after they've finished. You'd think they'd want to turn over tables- nope. Great food though.

Bruce H.

Yelp
I'm not certain, but when Luna Park remodeled their kitchen recently I think they must have installed a kitchen meant for a Denny's restaurant by mistake. I have stopped in for breakfast two times since the remodel. The first breakfast was so mediocre that I racked it up to maybe a new chef trainee or someone having an off day. Upon being served I noticed that the presentation had all the artfulness of a plate of cafeteria food. The second breakfast...this morning...I ordered the 'Carnivore' Omelette--a favorite of mine off Luna Park's once-intriguing menu for years. What I was served might as well be called the 'Thinking About Going Vegan' Omelette there was so little meat in it. The pathetic little over-roasted cubes of potato sitting next to the omelette on my plate looked...and tasted...like something I would have been served in an Army mess tent. My overall impression since their remodel is that the new menu and the food are the result of an overzealous accountant raising all the prices then vacuuming all the soul out of the menu and the food. This used to be one of the landmark West Seattle restaurants. A greasy spoon, yes, but with a sense of greasy spoon style. Now it's just a carnival museum with meh food. Too bad. With so many uniquely-Seattle businesses closing their doors in recent years it seems like Luna Park...though still open...has lost its blueprint.

Yelp
One bite, (see picture) This is where gravy changes it's name to sauce. I've been in places that must remain nameless, where flower is used without discrimination as a thickener. It's so refreshing to find Luna's chicken fried steak's gravy free of dead weight. I waited patiently for you to open, and the wait has been gratified. Today the crowd enjoyed your ambience, the atmosphere was jovial and lighthearted. I am glad you are open again, I'll come back for the food. The 45s playing was a great throwback, this is a great place to enjoy!!!!

Brandee S.

Yelp
It's OPEN! It's OPEN!!! Luna Park Cafe is finally open again after what I assume, was a Covid closure. It's exactly as you remember...soda fountain meets cozy diner - with a steaming side of kitch. Quirky decor and great food (at super fair prices) make it a MUST for any visitor or hungry Seattelite. Greeted by a Wayfair wearing tattooed man with perhaps an east coast accent (NYker?), I chose a seat at the bar. While my back was turned to the "dining area", I was treated to the bar/soda-shake area where some industrious gal scooped scoop after scoop of vanilla ice cream into an old fashioned metal cup, and added 16 options of add ins to make OLD FASHIONED, REAL milkshakes. It was a beautiful thing to behold. I've watched person after person come it to take a shake to go, all the while keeping up with the orders coming from the house. It alone was like breakfast with a show! They serve breakfast and lunch - nothing crazy, but good food done well. They have outdoor seating and parking, yes, believe it or not - that IS still a thing!! One note: I actually heard a beautiful handkerchief headed woman thank her co-worker for "BEING AWESOME". Honestly this is what inspired me to pick up my phone during breakfast and post this. We need more of this in the world. Period. After all of the drag of the pandemic, this is the place we need to be open. Reminds me of when the world was easier, kinder and less scary. Come. Eat. Give these people your $. You will not be sorry.

Ashley W.

Yelp
The food here is pretty good, but not so good to get a 5 star. We ordered the French toast and breakfast burrito with orange juice and iced coffee. The French toast is a typical diner style, so if you're not a fan of corn syrup, I would stay clear. Otherwise it is quite good - but too large a potion to finish. The breakfast burrito was quite good too. The orange juice was fresh squeezed, however it has some bitterness that usually comes from sitting around for a couple hours, so I couldn't really tell how fresh it really was. It may have just been the oranges but it was a no-no for me. The atmosphere here is really nice with lots of 1950s inspired decor.

Jared G.

Yelp
Terrible service. We were seated pretty quickly, but after waiting 20+ minutes to place an order, and trying to flag down servers and getting repeatedly ignored, we walked off and got food elsewhere. Understaffed.

Kris K.

Yelp
Excellent food and fun decor! Service was warm and friendly. AJ was the best! We ordered Chicken fried steak and the special eggs Benedict with sausage and gravy instead of hollandaise and Canadian bacon. Sooo delicious! We started with the recommended cinnamon roll and it did not disappoint! We will definitely come back!

Salvito L.

Yelp
It's a funky old diner. Has its quirks but ticks all the right boxes. Great food, fun old music, kinda grungy in a way that keeps the boojie hipsters and karens at bay. Love it.

Sharine N.

Yelp
Popular breakfast place with indoor and outdoor seating. Very small parking lot. We ended up parking a few blocks away and walking. There is a QR code on the table for you to scan and look at the menu. My husband ordered the llama pile and he loved it! My daughter's cinnamon roll was beautiful and delicious. I ordered the eggs Florentine and thought it was just ok. Pretty plain, but maybe that's how eggs Florentine are... My son ordered a wide of bacon and a waffle. The bacon was cooked well, crispy. The kids did like not like waffle. It was dense. Overall, we would come back again and just skip the waffles.

Brittany T.

Yelp
We heard this place offered vegan breakfast and they did not disappoint! Delicious food for vegans and omnis alike, friendly & helpful staff, and a fun, retro vibe! Can't wait to come back!

Dianna T.

Yelp
OMG I can't believe I haven't written a review for Luna Park Cafe yet! I've been to this place several times over the past few years and I've always had a good experience. It is a unique diner with Seattle charm and they serve breakfast all day! Luna Park Cafe is located in West Seattle near the West Seattle Bridge. They have a small parking lot, but there is plenty of free street parking nearby. They are open during COVID-19 for indoor or outdoor dining. I always order breakfast food here, but they also offer lunch and dinner items. The breakfast menu has a lot of options (omelettes, burritos, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, waffles, french toast, oatmeal, etc). I love egg dishes you can order them pile, hobo, or omelette style. Pile is the ingredients piled over hash browns with two over medium eggs, hobo is everything scrambled together, and omelette is the traditional way (ingredients layered inside folded eggs with hash browns on the side). I tend to always order the Field Roast (either omelette or hobo style). It comes with vegetarian Field Roast sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, feta cheese, and hash browns. You also get your choice of biscuit, English muffin, or toast (I always ask for sourdough toast). I love this dish even though I'm not vegetarian. It is plenty of food and you will easily have leftovers. The drip coffee is really good and the severs are always really friendly. This place is definitely in our breakfast restaurant rotation and I highly recommend it.

Emely R.

Yelp
Wonderful mom and pop cafe right in Seattle! Open bright and early with great breakfast options and lovely service by there staff. Will definitely be coming back again for breakfast before we live town. Highly recommend to any locals or tourist passing by (:

Phyllis B.

Yelp
It was the worst breakfast I've ever had. My sister and I ordered our eggs, whites done, and yolks soft, NO RUNNY WHITES. When we received our breakfast, the white were raw. I asked them to please cook the whites. When they came back, they threw the eggs back on the grill and cooked the bottom until it was crispy. The whites were still RAW! The waitress NEVER once came back to see how our meals were until she gave us the check, and even then, she didn't ask. We will never be back, and we live on Harbor Ave. We used to live this cafe but not anymore!

Susanna K.

Yelp
Came for Tuesday breakfast. Parking lot available. We ordered eggs Benedict and oatmeal with coffee. Average taste. Good option when living close by and not wanting to go downtown. Nice staffs, beware of crows! They're smart!

Sean E.

Yelp
Was looking to go in for lunch on Sunday 8/18, took a while for the server to seat us and like the guests before us, he was short tempered and rude. Sunglasses and fancy mustache. Saw him throw the menus down like he was having a tantrum to the guests before us, and when he asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside he seemed very annoyed with us. Then made sure to tell us that we couldn't open the umbrella on the table because of the wind that had almost taken them out of the table the previous day. Of course today was 77 degrees with no wind whatsoever, so he was clearly not taking that into account. Before we could order he came back out running food to another table and yelled at a different table loudly with food in hands to another guest that was trying to open their umbrella (they were baking in the sun). His shit attitude and complete lack of hospitality or even the bare minimum of not being a dick to every guest made me choose to get up and leave. I will not contribute to this guy's paycheck. I have been a restaurant manager for 24 years, I am forgiving, I can see all sides of a restaurant situation and completely understand when you are in the weeds or there is an off day. This was none of that, the rest of the staff was hustling, and I was looking forward to my food. I used to come into Luna Park all the time and always have had a great time. This review is for this specific server. He shouldn't be employed in our industry with this attitude and is harming your business the longer he is allowed to work there. Hope to come back again soon, but this guy was absolutely the worst.

P V.

Yelp
Ventured away from my usual neighborhood spots for Sunday breakfast to try LPC. We had breakfast and a sandwich, everything was hot and flavorful. A family came in and sat next to us at the counter and got milkshakes to go. I decided to have one as a breakfast chaser. So thick and good, needed a spoon, but eventually melted enough so straw could suck it down. Service staff was nice and hustling, was kind of like Arnold's from Happy Days with a lot more ink. Lastly, great collection of old lunch boxes. I'm a big fan of vintage everything and taking a couple minutes to check these out was a great finish to our meal. Solid 4 stars when you roll it all together.

Morgan N.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere but service could be better. Took a while to order after being seated. Our food came quickly but we weren't checked on as far as drink refills or how our food was. Our check was delivered without comment or offer of dessert. Then we had to wait another 10 minutes to pay. Not sure what the deal was because there were only two tables occupied inside the entire time. Don't bother putting quarters into the mini table jukeboxes because they don't work. And parking can be a challenge since they share a lot with 8 spots with the tavern next door. But again, some REALLY AWESOME FOOD.

Pam P.

Yelp
We were visiting Seattle and stopped in for breakfast. The parking was tough because of such a small lot. The place is cute and the food was good. The service was not good it seemed like we were a distraction no refills on coffee and no sign of waitstaff once food was delivered while she chatted with another table.

J. J.

Yelp
They were closed for several months and now that they reopened the food sucks. I had an omelet that tasted very odd to me. I was only able to eat a third of it. Even the English muffin didn't taste right.

Brett G.

Yelp
Worst place to eat, horrible food, DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! Ordered the vegan scrambled & it was sad cold & very unappealing.

Devin C.

Yelp
Moldy creamers. Dirty overall. Friend worked there and the things that I heard... it's a business trying to cut costs in the worst ways.

Susan H.

Yelp
Great breakfast place. Diner feel with great old fashioned shakes! Good burgers too.

Bill M.

Yelp
If you're into diners then this is the place. And even better, the food is good. The only downside is soft drinks and tea is $5.00. Will be back.

Ed O.

Yelp
Love the food and the atmosphere, but the upkeep of the original concept is deplorable and filthy. Been in the retail business All my life with chain Store concept. I can't believe how unkept this business is and still be so successful. You're lucky to get away with it. Specially when you're serving food to the public. Ed-O

Tiana K.

Yelp
Excellent classic diner! It's clear that this is a very popular spot because it's often pretty packed. I've been here solo twice on Saturday early afternoons-- the first time I had to wait for a table outside for a little bit, maybe 5 minutes; the second visit, I was immediately seated at the counter. Both times service was attentive and pleasant, despite the restaurant being very busy and both times my food was stellar and came out quickly. I also had the drink that's hot chocolate with Peppermint Schnapps and it is KILLER (in a very fun way!). Highly recommended!

nubia b.

Yelp
I place an order to pick up, they didn't give me the right order, missing 2 shakes and when I called them they said they can't give me a refund and that they will call me back and never did

Brett C.

Yelp
Honestly, I can't go to a place that changed their menu so much in a few years and now charges $5 for a soda drink. That's insane. I use to love coming here in the past, but now that I've seen their new menu, I'll never be a patron again.

Akshat D.

Yelp
We went here on a Sunday for brunch and had to wait about 10-15 min for the three of us. The staff is nice and the inside is decor is definitely walk down memory lane. We ordered the omelette and French toast and it was delicious. The portions were good and not bad for the price. The orange juice was fresh too! Overall good place and we would go back. Will have to try their lunch items too now.
