London’s New Restaurant Openings - London - The Infatuation

"You’ll hear a lot about Theo James—actor, man of highly defined cheekbones—being part of the team that’s opening Lupa (alongside the co-founder of Carousel). But the Roman-influenced menu at this Highbury spot is arguably even more exciting. Think supplí, slow-roasted porchetta, polpette al sugo, and fresh pasta dishes. There isn’t a lot of wiggle room in Lupa’s tiny dining room and nor does the restaurant have a phone number. Primetime reservations are at a premium, so it’s unlikely you’re going to get a specific Friday night in mind. Be flexible and set alerts; cancellations tend to happen the day before if you’re willing to move fast. FYI, they operate a strict 90-minute turnover." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Lupa - Review - Highbury - London - The Infatuation

"There's a Roman-influenced menu at Lupa, a Highbury spot from the co-founder of Carousel. Think supplí, slow-roasted porchetta, polpette al sugo, and fresh pasta dishes. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sinéad Cranna

It was 4 of us so we ordered a lot of different dishes, and everything was genuinely delicious. The pastas were perfectly aldente, the porchetta and lamb cutlets were divine and the tomate carpaccio and roasted potatoes were sublime 👌. In term of price, I would say the pasta and the cocktails are very good value. The meats are more expensive but still very worth their price. I would say there are a couple of overpriced dishes like the courgette flower and the artichoke, but still very tasty. The only not so good thing was the wine. We got 2 different bottles of red and neither was particularly good. Cocktails were delish and very good priced. The atmosphere was great and in general a great experience, especially if you go as a group as you get to enjoy all the different dishes. I've seen bad reviews regarding the service but we had Daniela serving us and she was perfect. I will definitely come back and I would highly recommend this place, not your typical Italian restaurant but better 🙌

We had mixed feelings about our visit to Lupa. While the ambiance was charming and the menu sounded promising, the overall experience fell short of expectations. Some dishes impressed with rich flavors and well-balanced seasoning, but others lacked the same level of care and consistency, making the meal feel uneven. The service, though confident, came across as a bit too self-assured and could benefit from more attentiveness and genuine warmth. Small portion sizes left us wanting more, especially given the price point, and we left the restaurant still a bit hungry. Overall, Lupa has potential, but it needs more consistency in both its kitchen and service to truly live up to its reputation.

Had our second visit to this restaurant and I must say that I think its getting better. Staff were friendly and the head chef was also so happy that we had returned, It was such a nice feeling to have such a warm welcome back. I have to say that the Artichoke dish is one that I will always remember. It was amazing. Just adding to the hype as this place is amazing. Such a great vibe from such a small place. Just what London needs. Food is to die for! The only downfall was the Tiramisu which was over rated for the size and the price. I have had better at other hyped up London places. But everything else is remarkable. The courgettes are one of the best things I have tasted

We managed to get a reservation for my friend’s 30th, and it couldn’t have worked out better. Our waitress suggested ordering a couple of dishes from each section of the menu to share, and it was the best advice as we got to try such a great mix. Every plate was spot on, from the Pizza Bianca to the Crostata del Giorno, and you can tell the kitchen really cares about what they put out. The vibe was warm and welcoming, the kind of place you instantly want to come back to. Perfect for a celebration, where you can have a meaningful conversation over a top-notch Negroni.

Having been a huge fan of Theo James for over 10 years , I of course had to go and try! ☺️ It’s a really cute neighbourhood spot. About 19 minute walk from the station with staff who are attentive and friendly. I ordered the pizza Bianca, Carpaccio di pomodoro & Carciofo alla romana. I really loved the Carpaccio di pomodoro, the tomato’s were really refreshing and I loved the seasoning! I also really loved the Carciofo alla romana, it was my first time trying artichoke and I’m now a fan (thanks Lupa)! Personally for me I wouldn’t get the pizza Bianca again due to personal preference and I would try some of the pasta dishes next time! Ciao

We came for dinner and while the atmosphere was pleasant and the food generally being good, it still didn’t quite live up to the hype. The service in particular, felt a bit cold and could definitely be warmer and more attentive. Between the two of us, we shared the fried courgette flower (very small portion but tasty), carbonara (this was delicious and our favourite), cacio pepe (nice but nothing special), lamb chop (well cooked but the fat could have been rendered more), the asparagus, artichoke, pea side (there wasn't even a full piece of asparagus, no artichoke to be seen and felt really stingy at £7 plus the cream didn't do it for me) and the tiramisu (the sponge was overly soaked and the overall texture was mushy). They brought the bill without asking even though we still had time left in our 1.5 hour allocated seating which already feels like a rushed timeslot.

Fully booked for weeks (25-30 covers) so plan ahead. Pros: good service and reasonable prices. Half portions of pasta can allow a 2nd type or a 'secondo' afterwards. Cons: food is average. Cacio & pepe came after 25 minutes, possibly because they lost the order (another guest that arrived later than me was enjoying the carbonara for 10 minutes when I got served, no apologies for the wait either). Pizza bianca lacked any flavour, you must order cured meats or it would be unpleasant on its own. Uninspiring desserts, oddly priced at £10. No other restaurant served Deep fried artichokes so praise to them to add it to the short menu.

I was so excited to visit the highly anticipated Lupa with a friend in July 2025. It's a nice neighbourhood-style restaurant in Highbury. Although it’s small, the interiors are stylish. The wine list was disappointing. It only featured natural wines with a new-style flavor profile, which was a letdown for fans of traditional wine styles. We tried a range of dishes, and while the food tasted nice, none of them were particularly memorable. My favourite was the carbonara, though it didn't have enough guanciale. The most disappointing dish was the porchetta. Overall, I had an okay time, but I won’t be rushing back anytime soon. I might give it another try on an Arsenal match day to see if the porchetta is better in the sandwiches.
