"Lupita's is a very solid neighborhood Mexican spot in East Harlem. There's nothing fancy about this place and you definitely won’t need a reservation, but our favorite things on the menu include the vegetarian enchiladas, pollo flautas, and the bistec sopes." - Team Infatuation

Love the food and happy hours is a plus! The restaurant definitely transport me back to a local Mexican spot in Mexico. I love the vibe.

I was visiting a friend in the area and we wanted to eat Mexican food. The food here was good for the price, compared to other places in NY where everything is expensive, this place was nice, they serve good portions, and the food was very good and the service was excellent.

I loved this place. "LOVED" until the food came out not great and the live music was often too loud. I ordered esquites and got corn soup instead. Esquites isn't supposed to be so wet and soupy. Another time there was too much fat in my pork taco. If they educated the chef better then the food would be better. They have live music which is always cool but often put the volume soooo loud that you can't even talk to the person you came with. Often I see the other patrons leave shortly after the music starts. People would probably stay longer if the volume of music and singing wasn't so loud. Other than the food and music, the service is really good and sweet too. I have eaten here often and my partner said to stop eating here but the drinks

Google
I just loved it. I am from Texas, and I've been pretty disappointed by Mexican food options in NYC. But, the quality and the value that Lupitas bring to the table are applaudable. Highly recommend enchiladas de mole.

The carnitas tostada and horchata are amazing! Authentic, no frills dining at a great price too! Better than many more expensive spots I’ve been to.

Amazing Mexican food for NYC. Delivery came fast and food was still hot

Superb. Some of the best nachos I've had in New York City. $13 with a bottled Victoria Lager and I am almost as happy as I've ever been. The nachos start strong with a generous layer of hearty, freshly fried tortilla chips. And! They didn't get soggy! Not even with all the buttery black beans! Or the decadent, juicy carnitas! The cheesy top layer was a stringy combination of Oaxaca and mozzarella so it had a really sexy pull to it. I will also say that the nacho plate had a great ratio of chips to creaminess to acid for freshness. However, I drowned mine in their house tomatillo salsa because it was good enough to bathe in. Finally, it is responsible to advise that Lupita's won't likely be the most graceful dining experience. I loved walking in to a full restaurant at 3 pm - a definite good sign - but the server was clearly overwhelmed. While the food came out fast and hot, everything else was a challenge. Who cares though I'm so happy. Happy hour starts at noon!

Food has always been great. Service has been prompt and helpful.

Yelp
Updating my review from 4 years ago: This is still the best chilaquiles I have had in New York and my go to spot! I don't live nearby so I use Uber eats but get their chilaquiles and you won't be disappointed!!!

Clari B.

Yelp
The drinks are good, the food is beautifully flavored and even the entertainment was good (there was a bit of a scuffle while we were dinning in, no big woop in the hood). With one wait staff working on the day our very large group walked in she did an exceptional job worthy of all praise. Asking about everyone loved their meals with not one single dissatisfied customer (including children!) Overall it's a shame this is so out of the way (and that certain clientele ruin it); for me I'd love to be a regular.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in Spanish Harlem, then this is the place you want to check out! Lupitas is great for all hours of the day with a vast variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have live music on weekends and great service. Highly recommend you give it a try! Ps- if you love sopes( their steak sopes are delicious!!!) & highly recommend their shrimp nachos!

Carina J.

Yelp
The shrimp tacos.... Get them with everything!! And the frozen margaritas don't change they're so good

Yelp
Lupitas East Harlem I'm on a roll having Five Star Dining Experiences this week. I had another Five Star today at Lupitas. I was welcomed as soon as I arrived. I was taken through the safety drill complete with having my temperature taken and a few questions in case they need to reach me. Jessica was on the task wearing her mask. She didn't mind me running around taking photos. I said I'd dine in if it was okay and I pointed to a seat for two that was close to the front. Due to my food allergies I ordered the Taco Salad my way. I had a side of sour cream added to use as a salad dressing. Since they don't use ground beef I opted for the shrimp. It was six pieces which is plenty! The salad had cucumbers, radishes, onions, corn, black beans and a tiny taste of guacamole. I could have eaten more black beans for sure. Naturally my favorite part was the taco shell. It was fresh and delicious. No need for desert. In fact I'm so full I won't be eating for the rest of the day! I haven't eaten that much since before last March! Jessica was so nice and the atmosphere is relaxing. The music was traditional and calming for eating. Since I was the only person dining in I felt safe. I arrived when they opened up at around 11am. When I left the place was still empty. Come in and enjoy people. This place is great food! I'm recommending. They have take out and delivery too!

Yelp
I order food for delivery a late snack, I order the pozole soup which is a hominy soup with pork came with two beans tostada. Delicious and hot, I love the fact that the food was actually hot. All the extra ingredients to season your soup. We also ordered the pancita soup it was delicious as-well but it is spicy. The pancita came With warm tortillas on the side which is a plus. I loved it and the delivery guy was very polite. Will be ordering from here again.

Yelp
I love the food here, I live in the neighborhood but stop coming for a while because of the service. The waiter take extremely long to bring water and to take if you need anything during your meal. I came today after not coming for about9'months and still the service is the same. Maybe more waitress are needed. I have heard this serve from friend and family that enjoy your food but think twice and coming for the service reason. I hope you guys do better. I hope so because I do like this restaurant...

Yelp
Great Mexican food and service. My husband and I come every week to one of their restaurants (there are three that we go to).

William G.

Yelp
High quality Mexican food is very common in Los Angeles. But it is a little harder to come by in NYC's five boroughs. This was said to me by classmates and fellow transplants from LA. But nevertheless, I made it one of my missions to find the good Mexican food places in NYC. Lupita's is definitely on the good list. I found this restaurant listed on my UberEats app. I was craving chilaquiles, and so that is what I ordered. The food was outstanding, as expected. The eggs, the chicken, and the chilaquiles were freshly cooked and very flavorful. The green sauce was spicy, and reminded me of the chilaquiles that I had in Merida a few years back. I was left very satisfied, and impressed by Lupita's. If you ever crave good Chilaquiles, give this place a try!

Yelp
I've been coming here for the past few years because the food is good, but the service is not really great. Last time I ate here i ordered a margarita which tasted super watered down and when i asked for salsas they had brought the metal sauce holders which had clearly already been used by a previous table and this is not the first time that happened. One time, after my friend and I had finished eating and using the metal salsa holder, the waitress took it from my table and gave it to the other table next to us. I felt really bad for the other table because we had used most of it and the waitress should have given them a clean, new one (very unsanitary).

Yelp
I wish I could give 0 stars for the experience I just had at Lupitas. I was a first time customer and ordered their Molcajete off the menu. Being Mexican, I know that a molcajete is supposed to come with a type of salsa included with the meal. I came to pick up my meal, walked all the way home to find that my salsa was not included. When I called the restaurant to alert them of the error, they tried to tell me that I wasn't provided a salsa because I ordered this to go. They charged me $35 for a plate of meat and cheese and still did not want to give me the salsa. Once I finally told them that they needed to, they told me to walk back to the restaurant for it. When I got there, they handed me what seemed to be the smallest container of salsa and refused to give me a second one when I told them that it was way too little for this type of plate. Overall just a very bad customer experience and they were very hesitant to fix the issue they caused. I'm Mexican and went here because I wanted to support my community and another small business but this was way too much. Never again.

Yelp
Visited Lupitas on a Tuesday because Tuesday's are for tacos, duh! The space isn't huge, but has a full bar you can sit at in addition to the dining tables. That night, my waitress was also making the drinks and cleansing the tables, which meant slower service despite how empty the restaurant was besides us. Not sure if this is a regular occurrence but I would hope there are other workers who can take on bartending and cleaning tables. It may save money, but definitely effects the quality of service. Either way, get your boo boo! Now food, the food was good but not the best Mexican that I've had in E. Harlem. I had the shrimp tacos which the waitress said came with a chipotle sauce and avocado. For some reason I though this was in addition to the normal lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, etc. But no honey, it was chipotle covered shrimp with a few slices of avocado on top. The chipotle sauce was very spicy which I wish they would've specified but overall it was just underwhelming. The size was too small to even enjoy. I also tried some of the nachos and they were also "ok". I didn't have a drink but the happy hour specials seemed affordable. Not sure id return even if I was in the area.

Yelp
I was all for this restaurant. My son and i have been ordering here for almost 2m now. Today is my final day EVER ordering from them again. I was told last time the tiramisu has been a high demand. Which was the case today as i couldn't get one for my order. So i opt for the Chocolate Mousse Cake. HOW DARE YOU SELL MOLDY FOOD TO ME AND MY SON!!! I'm never coming back again an warn others to not go back as well.

Adaysha G.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 5 years now. I have only had one bad customer service experience with the guy behind the counter but other than that I order the same 2 things and the food never disappoints! The frozen margaritas are way better than BBQ. It is small but depending on when you go depends on how crowded it is.

Jessie B.

Yelp
Really solid authentic Mexican food in East Harlem. My office is around the corner so I often find myself picking up takeout here. The service here is very quick even if you use Eat24/GrubHub for your pickup. I've tried tacos and burritos here and found the food to be high quality and flavorful. Portions here are generous and filling. Prices are generally around $12 for lunch which is very comparable. Staff here is also very nice and will greet you and make you feel welcome even if you're just picking up.

Yelp
Last night I was craving pretty much everything under the sun and was about an hour deep in the delivery search when I came across Lupitas. Someone had put up a picture of the taco salad claiming it was the was "best taco salad they ever had" so naturally I had to have it. I ordered it with the steak, medium rare, and my goodness everything about it was just awesome. It even comes with some amazing dressing on the side that was perfect for dipping the shell in. The taco salad really hit the spot and put my cravings to rest. As far as the delivery itself goes, I would say it was above average. I accidentally left my apartment number off the order and the man delivering my food was kind enough to wait until I called him back rather than just leave when I didn't answer my phone right away. The order arrived earlier than estimated within 30 minutes (exciting) and it arrived perfectly put together which is damn impressive considering that it was a delicate taco shell salad filled with the works. Overall, 5 star delivery experience for a Sunday night around dinner time. I will definitely be ordering from here again!

Yelp
Delicious drinks/ tasty fresh Mexican dishes Great services/ for a quick order this is definitely my go to spot , never disappointed with their service Everytime dinning with my girls here feels like home. I recommend tostadas de Camaron & grilled nopales dont forget their infamous guacamole dip is to die for...enjoy

Montrose W.

Yelp
Chicken tacos were 10/10!!!! So fresh and didn't take long to make. The vibe was super chill as well

Jasmyn G.

Yelp
I enjoyed the food, especially trying tamales for the first time. And my order was ready right on time.

Erica L.

Yelp
Delicioso!!! Me and the hubby came for his birthday night and we were so happy we did. Alma, our waitress was very pleasant. We ordered 2 margaritas one frozen the other on the rocks. Both strong and delicious. I ordered shrimp quesadilla and hubby the burrito..both lovely size portions that we both devoured not to mention the serenade of the mariachi band as well..will definitely be coming back.

Jesús F.

Yelp
the seafood soup is ti spicy if can make less spicy en at more vegetables on it is poor.it so watery is so simple

LaDoña F.

Yelp
Great food as usual, but just get ready for annoying"singers wannbes" screaming loudly in your ears while you're trying to dine. I wouldn't mind if food was cheap but for that price I can find a quieter place to eat. What are the owners thinking about when they're letting this happen to their place, delicious food but I won't be coming back anytime soon. TOO DAMN LOUD AND TACKY! if they continue like this they're going to be out of business before you know it. I hope they get their act together. SHAME!

Kristine M.

Yelp
Lupitas has given me SO much joy over the years. I've literally had dreams about their nachos. The carnitas are SO good. I truly think they are the best tacos in East Harlem. My dad makes me take him here every time he comes into town. I offer to take him for a fancy dinner down town? Nope, he wants Lupitas. I've literally been quoted as saying "I can never move because I would miss lupitas too much". Also they make a mean margarita. This place is an absolute gem.

Kim B.

Yelp
Wow, Lupita's Restaurant was simply astonishing. The atmosphere is really fun and the staff is excellent. The menu is really outstanding, lots of good choices, I had to go with Tostadas, and it was fantastic. The team is very pleasant as well. Lupita's Restaurant is certainly worth checking out.

Mel C.

Yelp
Good food, good service, NYC prices. We order and eat-in all the time. Expect good food, but not good customer service. We are a loyal, daily customers, we are disappointed that the one time we didn't order a our usual $40 order they made up a rule about needing to order more money. It was $13, two dollars short of $15, this one time. We literally order $40 worth of food a few times a week, plus eat-in every other weekend ($100 meals) and it's ridiculous they just make up rules and have no sense of loyalty. Food: 5 stars Customer Service: -0 stars

Kelly L.

Yelp
It is open! Braised pork chimichanga and lengua tacos for the win. Having lived in SoCal, it hasn't been easy to find Mexican restaurants we love in NYC, but Lupita's has easily become our go-to in the neighborhood. Hoping they have horchatas available again soon.

Evan J.

Yelp
I was extremely dissatisfied with their guacamole. It was so bland... add some chopped onion, salt, and pepper. It was one step above just sending out a virgin avocado. The quesadillas were somewhat better, but arrived very wet and thus were difficult to eat.

Ashley O.

Yelp
Today I find it so hard to find AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD. Lupita provides just that, authentic Mexican food. It reminds me so much of my late grandmothers cooking. I ordered the Pozole soup with regular nachos. It was all made with perfectly. Definitely my new go to. I highly recommend !!

Tanya M.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere but food is not as spicy or tasty as the restaurants in Texas and New Mexico. Slow service

Pnina D.

Yelp
Just discovered this place while walking down 2nd Ave, it's pretty spacious inside with a full bar + happy hour drinks! It was pretty empty when we arrived on Sunday afternoon so I wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered cemitas, al pastor tacos and something else (I forget the name ) The food overall was really delicious, super flavorful and very generous on the meat/toppings. They even gave us a little dip platter that came with different sauces, limes and radishes. The food was great, my only issue was the al pastor was a bit dry/over cooked, but still pretty tasty!

Cosmo W.

Yelp
Wow! Finally found some REAL Mexican in New York City! Great food, service and atmosphere. This place rivals any place I have been to in California. I WILL be coming back...

Arlythea T.

Yelp
OMG OMG OMG was craving shrimp chimichangas all day and was lucky to find this place close by! Chimichangas were delivered on time fresh. I devoured them!!!! They were big and had sauce, avocado, onions, and rice and beans on the side. This place is my new go to when I'm craving median food !!

Margaret R.

Yelp
We are now regular delivery customers and the food continues to be great. New go-tos are the steak mole enchiladas and the spicy pork quesadilla, which comes with a different and delicious hot salsa and guacamole. We convert everyone who shares the food with us into Lupita's fans.

Nico C.

Yelp
Overall, I think this place is a 3.5; food taste a 3.5 and value for money a 4. Definitely prefer this place to El Aguila and it's much cheaper than El Paso. Had the steak and al pastor tacos for dinner. Meat was a bit dry but they give you 3 choices for hot sauce so you can add some moisture back. Not sure if I would come back.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Went here with some friends to grab a bite to eat for lunch on a hot day. Thankfully it was nice and cool inside. For my meal, I decided to go with the eggs and chorizo and got it with a side salad and tortillas. It was a decently large salad and serving of chorizo, but there were a couple bits of it that were a bit too grisly for my liking. Overall, the food they serve here is decent and the prices vary based on what you're ordering. Service was a bit slow, but friendly.

dennis d.

Yelp
They first opened on 100st and Lexington more than five years ago and they closed for a year and finally relocated here and I have been following them since. Best Mexican food hands down. The Bistec Enchiladas Salsa Verde enchiladas and fish tacos are like crack to me. Try it and tell me otherwise. I need my fix at least once a week. I am sad that I am moving out of Spanish Harlem, so after all of these years of serving me I am finally sharing a well deserved review. Now I have to trek out from Brooklyn to get my fix.

Rosy M.

Yelp
Food was great. I Ordered chicken tacos....delicious. Nice place to come and eat Mexican food.

Quin S.

Yelp
We stopped in after my sons basketball game. I've wanted Mexican food for the past 3 days. The setting fits the nabe- looks like it gets live but it was empty this time of day. I had the Shrimp tacos and Avocado Salad. Salad was decent, wish there were more dressing varieties-- I had to settle for ranch. The tacos were really good; sautéed in a garlic butter sauce. IMO, its a once you've tried it, you don't have to return. Not necessarily b/c it's bad but simply b/c once is enough.

Danan R.

Yelp
Fast delivery and the dishes are very good. I love the huaraches (try the al pastor if you like spicy dishes!) which are hand-made thick and crispy corn served with beans, sour cream, lettuce, cotija cheese, and meat. Essentially, it is just a large sopa. The cemitas are also solid. Prices are pretty steep for the rather small portions ($8/huarache and $12/cemita) but the food is very good.

Jasmin F.

Yelp
I can only tell you about the Chicken Taco Salad. It was huge and delicious. Delivery was fast.

Prasath S.

Yelp
What a solid establishment that seems to be cooking home style mexican food. The clear stars were the Guacamole which was so fresh (you can tell it was whipped up to order in the kitchen), $8 Stellar Margaritas ($6 during HH) and also an amazing Goat's Milk? Flan Oh My !!! The Al Pastor Tacos didn't really blow me away but they were still very good. Next time gotta try the Pancita/Menudo Soup.

Mildred C.

Yelp
Yummy!! First time here and it was delicious! servers were friendly and helpful on deciding what to choose. I'll definitely go back...

Sadia H.

Yelp
First visit, this place used to be pizza parlor. I've read some really good reviews about the place, looking over the menu, I was impressed with the selection and its cheaper than Cafe Ollin (San Cristobal Restaurant), which I think is better but I haven't tried their taco salad. I ordered the chicken taco salad to go. It looked amazing (see pic) but it was ok. There's small pieces of chicken, not much. They put beans and salsa and guacamole on top of this very yummy fried shell. But for some reason it wasn't very flavorful, they gave me italian salad dressing on the side, really? I asked for green sauce and the lady asked, do you want the 50¢ or $1.00 sauce? Really? I just bought a taco salad for $11.50 you can't give me a small green sauce on the side? I hate when businesses are so cheap with the condiments, maybe if I had the sauce I would come back for the taco salad. Best taco salad is in the Bronx, Mexicocina! Trust me they are so generous with the condiments but you won't need it. Buen provecho!

S C.

Yelp
The shredded beef burrito I ordered had zero shredded beef in it. The delivery was also late. I do not recommend.

Jamie M.

Yelp
The mole enchiladas were really good. They had a bit of a kick to them, but really flavorful.

jackeline v.

Yelp
Went for lunch. Pretty light audience and one waitress. She brought us our chips. Very stale, but didn't mind it bc those are free. The food was impressive. I ordered a steak taco salad. Ingredients tasted fresh, portions were generous and most importantly, Price was right. Only complaint is that the waitress is in need of some support. She is bartender, cashier, waitress, hostess, etc. she's not slow...service is slow Bc she's the only one available. Would return for food. But would think about it twice if I don't have an hour +.

Zoe J.

Yelp
Lupita's might be the best Mexican food I've had in New York. And I'm coming from Los Angeles. Perfect enchiladas suizas #LupitaIOU

Jeimy C.

Yelp
From being a prior employee Since I don't know what other platform I have to warn people I'll use this one So they don't let you throw out any chips unless they have salsa on it or have garbage on it So there is a 99.9% your eating someone else's dirt That goes the same for the red sauce and green sauce and the lemons and the raddishes that are put on your table when you ask for hot sauce ! Also if you ever get sick from the food you'll just get mocked and asked to sue them cause they don't care ‍ Food is pricey because they are charging taxes that they themselves aren't paying it's just a made up system where they are keeping all the money It's 9% of tip witch it's already on a calculator Also if they don't have a price for something they'll make it up as high as possible Cubs they say a lot of white people go there what a joke I had to quit because they had me doing everything for less than minimum wage and at the end didn't pay me in full
