The Best Phở In San Francisco - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"You’ve got some choices to make at Ly’s when it comes to phở. But even the most indecisive need not worry, because there’s no such thing as going wrong at this Marina sit-down. Go for the beef satay for something with heat, the five-spice chicken if you want a whole deep-fried chicken leg, or opt for the vegetarian-friendly fried tofu bowl. For phở traditionalists, there’s chicken and beef—for the latter, you get to choose what cuts you’d like simmering in your broth. If you’re not interested in limiting yourself to just one type of phở, invite your friends. Getting a last-minute table, even for a large group, is usually easy to do." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

The Best Restaurants in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow | Eater SF

"Tasty, large bowls of pho in a no-frills environment makes this a very worthy stop for comfort food. Add on a roll — either the ground pork-stuffed imperial roll or the fresh shrimp roll made with rice paper — to round out the meal. Delivery is also available." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Crowded on a Sunday at 8pm is always a good sign - no wait though. Excellent pho (we had the chicken and the five spice chicken) and quick service with a nice and chill atmosphere. Definitely coming back

Olivia G.

Google
The grilled beef was amazing, the garlic noodles had the perfect amount of garlic and wasn’t too overpowering. The peanut sauce with the shrimp rolls were okay, they lacked a little flavor. Overall would definitely come again.

Google
One of the best pho ga I’ve ever had. Fresh chicken with skin ion to add to your broth! 10/10

Google
Grabbed Pho to go after a LONG travel day to San Fran, and happened to be staying at the motel next door to Ly’s. The service was SO quick and friendly, our order was ready in less than 10 minutes. The soup was so comforting and flavorful, it had the right amount of seasoning and spice, and the shaved beef was perfectly tender. One of the best Pho’s I’ve ever had.

Google
First time in this place and the staff was super friendly, they took the time to explain the menu in detail. Food was delicious with reasonable prices. You will need to park on the street so parking is limited. I’ll definitely recommend this place for a good and reasonable Vietnamese food.

Very good place to eat when you in San Francisco will always come back good food good service very friendly

Google
Loved the food so much I had to take my coworkers here. They agreed that the food is excellent. We likes their Pho and Shaken Beef rice plates. The restaurant it's was nothing special but they did have multiple tvs with different things to on each so I could watch Pokemon while waiting for my food. 👍

Google
The beef pho was full of flavor! Amazing food with generous portions!

Yelp
An impromptu, but turned out to be just the perfect dinner! Big portions, friendly staff. Bun Rieu is a crab paste pho. Not spicy, fortunately. Beef Satay Pho is more beef spicy pho, peanut taste is subtle. Will be back when craving the next bowl of pho (very soon in these fall/winter months!)

Yelp
From the outside off busy Lombard Street, this place doesn't look like much. Inside you'll find a clean bustling dining area that can get a bit loud at times. Three words: five spice chicken. I noticed that these words featured prominently in most of the dishes here. After one bite I knew why. I ordered the vermicelli noodle bowl with, you got it, the five spice chicken. The outer layer of the chicken skin was crispy with an infused flavor of five spice. The chicken was tender and the noodles were done just right. Looking forward to trying out their other dishes!

Yelp
Love this place (especially after a night out)! I came here for the first time on a Sunday morning and there was nobody else inside but when I came on a Saturday night it was packed with a line waiting! They keep people moving in and out fairly quickly though because service is great. I usually get the pho with rare steak and brisket and it feels so healing. I like to add some hoisin sauce, sriracha, and lime to my broth and it's absolutely delicious. Vibes inside are also good. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night with my friends because we were craving warm, comforting soup on that chilly night. We walked to this place since we were in the area. Street parking seemed difficult since everyone was going out that night. For us, we took the muni here, so we didn't have to worry about it. When we walked in, the interior felt cozy with the scent of the hot soup wafting in the air. There were a few tables available, so we were able to be seated immediately. Funny enough, all six of us wanted the Beef Combo Pho, so when our waitress came to the table, we looked at each other and announced that we all wanted Beef Combo Pho. Our food came within 15 minutes, and it was like passing it down the line like an assembly line, haha. The pho was nice and hot. I personally prefer thick rice noodles rather than vermicelli, but it was still good. I think it was a good bowl of beef pho, and it satisfied our craving. They had a lot of noodles in my bowl, so it was filling. If I am ever in the area again and craving pho, I would come back again!

Yelp
This is a pretty standard local Vietnamese restaurant. The grilled pork was a great balance of sweet and savory. The five spice chicken was well seasoned with slightly crispy skin. The pho broth was light and comforting. The Thai iced tea had a good level of sweetness. The restaurant was quite empty for a late Sunday lunch, so there was no wait. Our food was served quickly after ordering. The music ranges from American pop to Chinese throwbacks.

Yelp
Ly's is in a nice location near the Marina. Parking on lombard is going to be rough so strongly recommend looking near Moscone Park or in the neighborhoods around. Walking distance Fort Mason and Marina Green Food was well priced, a casual lunch for two ended up only being just over $20 a person. Selection was also solid. Food was ok, nothing super special. The chicken pho had a nice clean flavor and was a light bowl. Solid and simple. The filet mignon shaken beef was also fine. I think the beef was a little over cooked, and as a result a little tough. I also thought the portion of meat was a bit small considering youre paying a premium. Overall ok, if youre looking for vietnamese food in the area then worth considering!

Yelp
Nice people, nice service, nice food! Came on a Sunday around 11:55, lol 5 minutes later it started getting busy. We came in for an affordable lunch before we walked around the marina green on a nice sunny day. They had on anime and football lol. It's a no frills place. We liked that the menu had a picture of everything. The guy refilled our water often and left a bottle for us to refill ourselves, which I really appreciate! Garlic noodles were good! Not life changing, generous portion, alongside the 5 spiced chicken I got (also good and generous portion). I like the option to add things like I did one Imperial Roll for $3. It was tasty but the dip seemed a little too sweet or something? I do like the hot sauces and hoisin the already have ready to go at the table. Overall it's a great option if you're craving Vietnamese food in the area and don't feel like dealing with an obnoxious brunch place with a line! Come early tho to try to order before it gets busy lol.

Yelp
We didn't dine in by ordered takeout. We ordered one entree and one appetizer. The spring rolls wraps were hard so if it had been refrigerated so the skin was hard so it wasn't great. Th grilled pork rice dish was good but not great. The service was good and polite.
google avatar

Yelp
Another great visit These were great _beef sauté pho _five spice chicken pho _boba _freh shrimp rolls Next time, I'll try: _Noodle bowls

Yelp
The food was pretty good. There were three of us and we ordered the fried tofu appetizer to start. Then for mains, vermicelli, vegetarian pho, garlic noodles with veggies. The pho arrived really quick. It was flavorless but fresh veggies made it good for my cold. Then a round of drinks later came the appetizer and two other mains. I'd say they need to work on timing. It was good overall and if we return, we just need to be clear to bring it all at once.
google avatar

Maung S.

Yelp
It's not horrible but it wasn't flavorful. It was around the corner of where I stayed for the night so it was walking distance to the nearest pho place. Had the crab paste soup aka bon bo hue. Very little protein, the meatball tasted like it was just eggs mixed in with crab paste, which often make at home. No pork flavor taste. Mediocre, but the egg rolls and spring rolls were good. Ate here cause it's convenient
google avatar

Margaret T.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick lunch after we decided the line at Komeya No Bento was wild given our time constraints. Ly's was just around the corner and we had noticed it on our walk to the initial eatery. The restaurant had plenty of space and we were both seated and served quickly. There's a decent vegetarian section. I got the veggie pho and happily got to slurping once the dish was served. Sometimes I'm a bit wary ordering veggie pho as the soup can be fairly bland or the vegetables get too mushy. However, the broth was decent and hit the spot. There was a good variety of vegetables in the dish as well.
google avatar

Tamlyn L.

Yelp
Got the chicken pho Amazing chicken broth - very flavorful, perfect temperature and delicious after a cold winter evening of walking around The chicken breast was shredded but tender and not dry I added steamed tofu which was a great addition Friendly servers and they were pretty crowded even late on a Sunday night
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
The rating would be more of a 3.5 stars. Probably one of my favorite places to grab take out from when I'm in the area because my grandma really likes the fish sauce and egg rolls. I've only ever ordered the garlic noodles and egg rolls. Both of these are consistently good. I like the flavor of the garlic noodles and beef, but the beef itself isn't super tender. They're fairly quick despite them always being busy. It's definitely pricey but I think that's because it's in the Marina.
google avatar

Pascale S.

Yelp
We love eating at Ly's! The pho here is sooo delicious. The service is always really quick and the staff are friendly. The most recent time I came I got the beef pho. The soup is flavorful and the portion generous. This is my favorite meal out on a rainy or cold day because it's so cozy!
google avatar

Maricris R.

Yelp
I think this will be an all time favorite for pho and grilled pork and chicken! The place is so cozy and Danny is always helpful and welcoming! The food taste like home, familiar and tasty; it is in acceptable portion. The price is amazing and if you are visiting and looking for homemakers food without breaking the bank, this is the place to be! I walked so not sure about parking availability. Rest assured it is worth it!
google avatar

Shenoah C.

Yelp
It's nearly impossible to find a place that offers vegetarian pho (most will leave the meat out, but still use beef broth). Ly's had "the best pho of my life" according to my vegetarian teenager. My other three kids and husband all loved the 5 Spice Chicken and beef pho.it was loud inside, but the tasty food and friendly service are worth it.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Hidden little Pho spot on Lombard street. Super fast service, comfortable seating, amazing food! Great lunch on a rainy day!
google avatar

Sadie E.

Yelp
Oh my god. I had a fantastic meal. Ordered the five spices chicken, got potstickers for the table, and some diet cokes. Quick service (food was piping hot and super fresh, especially the herbs for the pho) and the restraint was busy at a random hour which is a good sign of loyal customers. Loved it and will be coming back!
google avatar

Audrey L.

Yelp
Great spot to satisfy your Vietnamese food cravings in Cow Hollow. I recommend the chicken pho and Bún riêu. The flavors are well-balanced and tasty. We also ordered the grilled pork rice plate and I recommend ordering that, too. The service was friendly and there's ample seating. They were pretty busy for a Sunday evening and I noticed a good amount of people picking up takeout orders, as well.
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
Solid family dinner location in the Cow Hollow area. Immediately, I got the "local favorites" vibe and since I'm just a visitor, I'm not going to gatekeep this cute neighborhood restaurant. The service is friendly and helpful and we felt welcomed. The server/owner (?) talked enthusiastically and passionately about their broth and I appreciate places that take pride in the food they serve. I loved the Chicken Pho, large portion, herby broth, nice chewy noodles. The rest of my family all had nothing but good things to say about their choices as well. So, whatever noodle soup option you choose, I feel like you'll enjoy it. Recommend.
google avatar

Jack C.

Yelp
When I got there it was not very busy, so the service is pretty fast. It's cozy place, so nice for small group but not big gathering. Ordered two items. Spring Roll and Pho. The Spring roll is really good and has more filling than other places I visited. The pho is not bad, but I think the broth can use a bit of work. It overly sweet and does not have the depth of flavor other places have. Overall still a solid choice.
google avatar

Sylvia Y.

Yelp
Great neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant. Stopped by for a quick dinner and got the 3 Item Pho. Service was efficient and friendly. The inside is clean and they had the baseball game going on multiple TV screens. My food came out quickly. It met my expectations in terms of portions and price. Thumbs up!
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
I think I genuinely eat here once a week. This is 1000% the best pho in the Marina, and some of the best in SF. The rare beef is my favorite, but my friends love the vegan and five spice chicken as well!
google avatar

Carlton C.

Yelp
Ly's Vietnamese will be a staple in my dining rotation. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy but there were open seats and we were seated right away. We ordered the Fresh Grilled Pork Rolls, Chicken Pho, and 3-Item Beef Pho. The food was served relatively quickly and was delicious! I look forward to a return visit to try more dishes.
google avatar

Sydney R.

Yelp
best pho i've had in SF, always what i need to warm me up after a rough day. so glad it's in my neighborhood
google avatar

Ojoma O.

Yelp
The service is fine but the food is just okay. Unfortunately my noodles and brisket were overcooked. We also ordered imperial spring rolls and crab paste noodle soup. The crab soup was lacking flavor. The spring rolls were also dry. I think the restaurant is cute and charming. The staff were friendly but I can't say I'd be interested again.
google avatar

Brett G.

Yelp
Reasonable prices, fast and friendly service in a casual no frills space on Lombard. One of the few decent Vietnamese spots in the immediate area. Recommend ordering rice and noodle dishes. The chicken and pork are pretty good and the garlic noodles are above average. The pho gets the job done - the broth is so-so the meat a little less plentiful than other places. At the price point it's fine but can't compete with other pho specialty spots.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Our favorite Vietnamese spot in SF! We've dined in multiple times and have gotten takeout once. What you order really makes a difference. Our favorites are the chicken pho and the fresh grilled pork rolls by far. My fiancé also enjoys the grilled pork with rice. We've also tried the beef pho, imperial rolls, grilled pork with garlic noodle, and the crab paste noodle soup. They were all fine (I actually enjoyed the garlic noodles but my fiancé didn't love it) but we just prefer our favorites.
google avatar

Naomi W.

Yelp
I've only ever had pho in the Sunset or Richmond areas, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find such a good pho place in the Marina! Came in here close to 1 PM, and the place was nearly packed, with still more people streaming in for lunch. There's maybe only about 10 tables inside, but they were comfortably spaced out. Service was quick as usual with a pho place, and the servers were also very nice and smiley. The pricing was a little odd to me since it seems like you can only get up to three types of "meats", paying a little extra for each additional type, but I never finish the broth anywhere and I finished it here. Delicious and would definitely be back!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Might be more of a 3.5 but rounding up! My friend and I were craving Vietnamese food before catching a show at the Palace of Fine Arts. Found Ly's on Yelp and decided to check it out! We got lucky and found street parking right in front. The restaurant is a decent sized, no frills Vietnamese restaurant. They've got signs all over with their most popular menu items. We arrived around 5pm for an early dinner and there weren't too many people in the restaurant but it filled up quickly during our meal. Still, we were served pretty quickly. We shared the imperial rolls for the table ($9). It's pretty much 3 egg rolls, each split in half. It felt like a small portion size for the price, but also, it's SF so maybe that's as to be expected? I also ordered the five spice chicken garlic noodles ($14.25). It came with chicken, garlic noodles, and broccoli. The flavors were good, but overall I thought it was dry and kind of plain. I'll prob try something else next time. My friends enjoyed their meals - beef pho, five spice chicken rice plate, and tiger shrimp vermicelli bowl. All in all, a good, quick meal!
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
The papaya salad with beef was delicious; I'd definitely order it again! The pork fresh rolls were a little boring (it's mostly full of rice noodles), but the grilled pork was really flavorful and tender.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
We found Ly's via yelp after a long city walk. Was cool & windy so Pho seemed like a perfect remedy. The servers were all polite and efficient. Each of us ordered a different Pho- I had the Vegetarian Pho, one had the Crab Paste Noodle Soup & another friend had the Shrimp Pho. The portions were good sized. I had hoped the Vegetarian Pho would have more flavor- I added quite a bit of Siracha which definitely helped. My friend loved her Pho with shrimp. I brought half of mine home & intend to add more tofu & spices to it. The milk boba tea was good- happy the pearls were super soft. Prices were also decent. If in the area, I'd come back here.
google avatar

Summer L.

Yelp
My favorite is crab paste noodle soup. It's worth we drive half hour from bay area!Nice food nice service.
google avatar

Robert ..

Yelp
Affordable good, great service, the beef satay pho was phenomenal. Didn't think that much flavor could be packed into a simple dish. I meant to take pics but was starving after along hike with a slight sunburn. My girl and I split potstickers which were my favorite light fried crispiness. I live right around the corner so plan on coming back. I do wish the Thai tea had more flavor but not enough to drop a star at all. I even grabbed some garlic noods with chicken for a late night snack.
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
Phở is my favorite comfort food and making a good broth is way too complex to do at home, so I always appreciate a big bowl while out! This restaurant is a little bit removed from the main food drag in the Marina, but not too far away. I left very satisfied after enjoying a good-sized portion at a reasonable price. Beef Phở with Rare Beef, Brisket and Meatballs: Pretty much my standard configuration. Not a fan of tripe or tendon, so didn't mind at all that they were missing from the menu. The beef broth was rich and had a bunch of nice spice tones infused. The brisket had fat marbled in the meaty slices and was very tender. Meatballs had that nice chewy texture. The rare beef slices weren't that rare when they arrived, but still tasted fine because they were super thin and great when dipped in sriracha and hoisin on the side. The noodles were al dente and didn't stick together, so nicely done. Only downside is that there was no Thai basil on the plate for toppings, despite being listed on the menu. But with ample cilantro and scallions in the soup already, I managed.
google avatar

Cidney L.

Yelp
So good! Great pho in the marina. Got the brisket pho and tried a bite of the garlic noodles and they've got a bounce you need in the dish! Came around 3/4pm and there was an oddly amount of people working so we felt like we were being watched too closely in a way
google avatar

Rose C.

Yelp
Solid viet food! I got 5 spice vermicelli salad, which was delicious. Next time I would try the 5 spice chick pho though. I went in around 2:30pm on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. It seemed like there were more workers than customers but service was very attentive and kind.
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
Came to Ly's on a Saturday with a group of 10 and was just so impressed by the whole experience. We were sat immediately and our food came out not too long after we had ordered -- really such fast service. I ordered the garlic noodles with grilled pork and it was such a generous portion of food for a fabulous price. Garlic noodles were at a perfect al dente. Grilled pork was so delicious and tender. It tasted so much like my mom's cooking, so it was honestly really nostalgic to be at Ly's. 5 spice chicken was unreal... Everyone needs to get a side of it or order the 5 spice chicken pho because that chicken is sooooo juicy and flavorful. I could eat that just by itself and be content with life. We all left with full bellies and happy hearts. Also what's great is that there's plenty of parking nearby! Shoutout to Ly's for comfort Viet in the marina.
google avatar

Bridget F.

Yelp
Great Pho! They are always busy which is a great sign of a good place to eat! This is our second visit and it was just as good if not better than the first.
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
Great for a casual meal. Love the pho and the spring rolls. Great neighborhood spot. Very quick service.
google avatar

Emilie S.

Yelp
A visiting friend suggested we eat here as she was craving pho. I think this is going to be my new favorite pho spot in the city. The staff is so friendly and sat us quickly on a Friday night. They have a lot of non alcoholic beverage options which was great for dry january participants. All of the food was delicious. We shared an appetizer and the rare beef pho soup and both left full. Thinking about it now...I can't wait to go back and warm up!
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
The Imperial Rolls were tasteless. The raw beef in the Pho was extremely tough. The place did not seem very friendly. I was previously there 2 years ago and everything was much better.
google avatar

Priscilla C.

Yelp
Pretty solid place for pho. Flavor of the broth was really good, good amount of chicken, noodles are good. I would definitely come back again. Also they do delivery like Uber eats and doordash so perfect if you're feeling sick and don't want to go out.
google avatar

R J.

Yelp
Had lunch on Tuesday with friends after tennis at Moscone Park working up an appetite. Ordered Shrimp Rolls and Angel Wings for appetizers as we waited for Vermicelli 5 Spice Chicken and Shrimp / Shaken Beef rice plates. As well as a few Thai and Vietnamese Iced Coffees. Totally impressed with the speed of service, distinctive tastes of each dish, and the generous portions. A great value and hidden gem in Cow Hollow. They get really busy with a lot of To Go orders at dinner time. Go enjoy the hospitality and menu variety.
google avatar

Mariana S.

Yelp
I'm addicted to their five spice chicken pho. I get it every single time I'm hungover or sick and it immediately makes me feel better. Also they are so kind and helpful every time I go in to pick up!
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
I've tried a lot of Pho restaurants on Postmates and this by far is the best one because everything I've tried, has been consistently good. At other places, some dishes are better than others but at Ly's, they're all good! My favorite is the beef pho combo. The broth is so good, I finish it every time. It wasn't greasy, very well made, and the meat to noodle ratio is perfect! Imperial rolls are delicious. I like how crispy they are and its not double fried like other places. Regarding service, they never miss anything on my order. It always comes correct. I will definitely be ordering here again!
google avatar

Jay R.

Yelp
I was going to give Ly's 4 stars since I can be picky on my pho as well as garlic noodles, but they are so kind here and also the food is always consistently good. Also you have to give them props since its one of the only (if not only?) Viet spots in this part of town. Get the five spice chicken here with garlic noodles or their chicken pho as that can hit the spot.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
I did pickup from Ly's and ordered the chicken pho and the five spice chicken and garlic noodles. The broth in the chicken pho was SO good. It's the perfect, light, nourishing comfort meal with all white meat chicken and noodles. Definitely try this if you're in the mood for a chicken soup-type meal! Five spice chicken was really good as well and garlic noodles were okay and hit the spot.
