Where to Splurge on Caviar in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This tucked-away fine dining spot in the Ritz Carlton makes a fine stop before or after catching a show from crooner Jeremy Davenport. M Bistro features a grand, $90 seafood plateau that can be sweetened with an ounce of caviar served with crème fraîche and blinis at market price." - Beth D’Addono

A VIP Guide to New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE) 2018 - Eater New Orleans

"At $300, Wines by Paul Hobbes at M Bistro at the Ritz is the most expensive of the bunch. Paul Hobbes, called the Steve Jobs of wine, has worked at Mondavi, Opus One, and Simi Winery. Now he runs Paul Hobbes wines out of Argentina. To his wines, add an impeccable five-course menu including foie gras and crawfish soup dumplings as well as smoked oysters and bone marrow with a ribeye filet — and you have one of the best of Wednesday’s wine dinners." - Stephanie Carter

What a treat to have this wonderful restaurant attached to our hotel. We are staying at the Marriott French Quarter and this restaurant is in the Ritz Carlton. It offers room service to Marriott customers which was fantastic yesterday. Today we went to the restaurant and was taken care of by Pamela. She was amazing, friendly and full of life. From the moment we walked in the people were friendly and the food was out of this world great 😊 looking forward to another meal here and will request Pamela if she is working.

We celebrated my wife's and her sister's birthday 🎂 there. Referred by Robert at the Marriott who also made our reservation and Rudy the Concierge at M Bistro got us a great seat overlooking.the lounge. The food and service were both excellent.

Located on the third floor of the Ritz Carlton, this restaurant has a great menu of classic Louisiana fare served in a classy setting. Immediately adjacent to the Davenport Lounge, the space has a large skylight which brightens up the room to supplement the three chandeliers. For breakfast, I had the crawfish creole omelette and it was superb. Staff is super friendly and would highly recommend.

Everything was fantastic. The food was great and Bre made sure we had excellent drink pairings for each course and she made sure we have an unforgettable experience during our proposal dinner. Some of the best cocktails I've had in the city.

We stopped here as most local restaurants were full, and yes, it's the Ritz, so you can't go wrong. So good! Quiet, fine dining atmosphere. Excellent service. Gluten-free options... lots. Oysters Rockefeller were yum! Seriously good. The scallops over risotto were fantastic. I'm super happy with our entire experience. Highly recommend.

We always try to experience the Ritz when traveling even if we are not staying at the property. We’ve always had a pleasant experience everywhere we’ve been and this is the first time we are left heartbroken. Unfortunately, the M Bistro was not up to Ritz standard like we are used to. Service was just good, servers need more training about menu and interactions with guests. The food was nothing special, very basic, lacked seasoning, just not tasteful. Ordered oysters, had to return because they were not fresh. We were extremely disappointed and will not be coming back.

Calm ambiance. Live band. Great food. Awesome deserts. Hannah was amazing with her customer service and suggestions! Located inside of the Ritz on Canal on the third floor. Make reservations.

Google
Great environment for meetings, quiet brunch, lunch, dinner… atmosphere is great. Staff all super friendly. Byron was a great bartender, very knowledgeable about all the food and drinks. He also knows about great places to visit around the area. He kept the drinks coming and his recommendations on food were spot on! Will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
My partner and I were highly recommended that we go in and try the beignets at M Bistro. Upon arriving to the host stand, we were already met with annoyance after we stated we were not residents of the hotel. After seated, our waitress got us our drinks and asked what we'd like to order for breakfast. We requested beignets. Upon hearing that, our waitress was visibly bothered that that was all we planned to order. For the remainder of the meal no servers checked on us. It wasn't until the very end of our meal that our server brought us the check without asking if we would like to order anything else. She began being talkative after the check was placed down and seemed convenient that we were about to have to write down the tip. This experience was highly uninviting and if anyone asked me if I recommend, I'd absolutely say no.

Yelp
Stayed at the Ritz for a business meeting and experienced M Bistro food twice. Once in the afternoon when we grazed off the bar/lounge menu. The sliders and deviled eggs were both fantastic. Flatbreads were good too, as was the charcuterie plate. Had the purple haze cocktail--can't go wrong when Monkey 47 is listed! Had dinner the next night in the restaurant section and it was great as well. Nice music coming from the lounge for entertainment. The street corn bisque is something I'm going to be talking about for a long time. One spoonful and I told my colleagues I would need some time to myself...to enjoy this amazing bisque. So good I'm going to have thoughts of driving 10 hrs each way to New Orleans to have more. The artichoke-crusted red fish entree was also delicious. Don't forget the beignets for dessert! The whole experience is nothing less than I would have expected from this Ritz Carlton but it was still nice to be so happy after eating and drinking here.

Yelp
Still as good as it was last year!!!! The truffle fries ....so good!!!! Everything on the menu is amazing and the beignets are always so good!

Yelp
My husband and I came here with my in laws a few weekends ago and had a wonderful time. It's located inside the Ritz Carlton which is an absolutely stunning hotel. We went on a Saturday evening so they had a live jazz band in the adjacent/connected bar who were awesome. The restaurant opens to the bar so you can see and hear the music perfectly. We went in shortly before closing and they were gracious enough to seat and serve us up until shortly after closing time. Our server was attentive and kind, gave good recommendations and even brought us complimentary bread basket to start and complimentary beignets with dipping trio after we finished. To drink, we tried the Famous in New Orleans (fresh and slightly spicy but yummy), purple haze (delicious light and floral), and the bartenders bag of tricks (a delicious light citrusy surprise-bartenders choice for the evening). To eat, we got a few plates of the Oysters Rockefeller (holy smokes so flavorful and rich, nice big ones too!), and everyone got a Cesar salad (yummy, fresh and good texture). We weren't super hungry so didn't get any entrees, but looking forward to going back for full dinner next time because everything sounded so awesome!

Yelp
While staying at the Ritz, we stopped in here for breakfast one morning... They have a really nicely-stocked, appetizing-looking breakfast buffet with an omelet station, capable of doing so much more than basic omelettes. We opted to order from the menu and the items we got were well-made, fresh, and tasty. Service was decent. The décor is warming and beautifully embellished. Definitely would return if I wanted to stay in the hotel for breakfast.

Yelp
Great decor, layout, and design, of course by the Ritz-Carlton, the only 1 restaurant here. Service was good and attentive, but everything else fell short! As an Ambassador Elite member, I expect the Ritz to a higher standard than other brands of the Marriott Bonvoy. With that said, this quality of the restaurant here fell below par compare to other Ritz-Carlton that I've been to. * Fried chicken on brioche was ok, too much breading on the chicken than I barely had any chicken and it was supposed to be spicy, didn't taste and sense any heat! * Gumbo was lukewarm when served, very salty. (I understand the most places serve salty food but this was very salty) * Blackened fish taco was solid. * flatbread was mediocre. The place decorated gorgeously as they are known for, but that was the best part about this spot! Make reservation for the weekend or else you will be waiting an hour, even if you are guest here. Plenty of good places to eat around the area, take a short walk to explore, skip it here unless you want breakfast!

Yelp
My colleague was staying at the Ritz and recommended we connect to discuss business over dinner and drinks at the M Bistro. Considering I'm stuck at the Hilton w/ the bourgeois, I jumped at the opportunity to ball with the upper crust. I ordered a Caesar salad and bowl of Seafood Gumbo gumbo for dinner. Caesar: Romaine Lettuce, Croutons, White Anchovies, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Caesar Dressing $ 8 Gumbo: Louisiana Shrimp, Crab, Crawfish, Andouille, Popcorn Rice $14 . The food was standard fare for NOLA -- nothing terribly special. I was quite surprised that the service wasn't quite what I would expect for a joint with the reputation like the Ritz. It took my server 10 minutes to bring me a glass of wine. Not impressed! I tried a bit of my colleagues shrimp and grits -- nice presentation and looked delicious. I also liked the fact that you can hear music from the Davenport Lounge during dinner. All things considered, I expected to be blown away with the service and food quality at the restaurant associated w/ the Ritz. I thought everything was quite average. 4 stars for the food, 2.5 stars for the service knocks it down to a 3 for me.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to stop by the Ritz while in New Orleans and had the pleasure of meeting a great friend of a great friend who runs the restaurant. We chose the buffet breakfast, which showcased local cuisine, and also featured an omelette station. Be sure to order the biscuits and gravy! The restaurant faces the hotel bar and The Davenport Lounge, which houses famous jazz musician, Mr. Jeremy Davenport each and every weekend. Great food and service, highly recommend! Will be sure to be back soon!

Yelp
Excellent breakfast and service. I had the Caprese Omelette and loved it. It's really nice in here but you do not need to dress up for breakfast. I was fine in leggings and a sweatshirt. Would definitely recommend for breakfast if you're staying at The Ritz.

Yelp
I will start by saying this place is absolutely gorgeous and the jazz band is phenomenal. We decided to come here after searching for somewhere on open table and made our reservation. We were seated upon arrival and our first waitress quickly took our drink order and whizzed off only to be seen again about 45 minutes later. After waiting for a good 20-25 a wonderful staff member named Jerome came and took over. He was so professional and attentive we couldn't have asked for better service from Jerome. I order the snapper which was okay but I would definitely get something else next time. We were surprised yet appreciative that our drinks ended up being comped due to the wait time. Overall, I would come back only for the music and a cocktail.

Yelp
This was one of the most exquisite fine dining experiences I have ever had. My husband and I dined here for valentine's day and our server, Chanel, was INCREDIBLE! From start to finish, the entire staff and our girl Chanel went above and beyond. The ambience was superb, the live jazz band was excellent and everything we ordered was absolutely amazing. We left buzzing in an incredible mood because the staff was more than accommodating. I can not give enough compliments to Chanel, and we will most definitely be back and will request her as our server. This is a must for anyone looking to get out and enjoy a relaxing night!

Yelp
I went to M Bistro This past Thursday night and Friday night. I did make my reservation through to a different platform however service was consistent all around both days. Walked in the restaurant I was Covid carded and my guest was not, This was Thursday. We got the birth and we had a wonderful waiter by the name of Jerome I was there for a business dinner. He was super attentive and did not miss a beat and everything that we requested. There's no music on Thursday night I thought that was great and there was probably only four of us in the entire restaurant and two of those were in my party including myself. On Friday night we know that Jeremy Davenport is on stage. I return this day with my husband as my dinner guests and we asked for the booth and also received a room with our waiter. Just like the previous say he was attentive and for whatever reason I was craving truffle fries which weren't on the menu and he said no problem I'll get that for you - now that service. Now I go onto the food for both days just to kind of combine things without making it confusing we had As an appetizer Ahi tuna And the bowl of gumbo. We also enjoyed Caesar salad, and the steak. And ended with several orders of beignets (The best in town hands-down)!!!!! Go for the beignets if no other reason. They come serve with a caramel sauce or green sauce and a chocolate sauce. They share a light hollow inside doughnut with fresh powdered Sugar they melt in your mouth and you can probably eat all six of them yourself. The drinks were expensive but delicious and on point. They looked equally as beautiful. I do like the atmosphere fear here but on Friday night looks like there's a takeover of a certain crowd who pretty much probably follows Davenport but it's not a problem we had a good date night. And the biggest part of it all is that you don't have to go around looking for parking there is valet which gets validated at the restaurant! Thanks Ritz Carlton for not missing the mark. I've read some of the reviews and I'm not sure what happened but I think it's worth a try or another try.

Dana B.

Yelp
The food and ambiance were wonderful and the service was excellent. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because our server brought out a surprise plate of beignets as a welcome present (which we didn't request), and then they charged us for it. I hope it was a simple oversight and not intentional.

Yelp
Great evening, beautiful room, amazing food...the Gumbo is a must, and definitely the crab crusted filet! Thank you Luna!

Yelp
This is the First New Orleans Restaurant that I've experience poor service and so so food. Sad because it's inside of Ritz Carlton in New Orleans. The restaurant itself is pretty. Our server was not attentive and forgets to bring menu for our dessert. The lobster pasta was too dry and lacking in flavors. My scallops was decent. I enjoyed the Ceasar salad. Most disappointing thing was just the service. I didn't even see a manager (there was a guy in who looked around twice for a 2 hr dinner). At the price point, at minimum, the service and food should align. Would not come back unless I get the service improve as there are too many restaurants in city to come back to with good service.

Ashley A.

Yelp
Decent food and good atmosphere but our waitress ignored us most of the night. She was nice but forgot to take our order. Then, she ghosted us after our Caesar salad came out with no dressing on it. My husbands beer came out after we finished our dinner and only after we asked the guy filling up our waters about it. We are to speak with the manager only to be placated with minimal apologies. Certainly not up to regular Ritz-Carlton standards. Feel like because they charge 20% fee already that staff do not care.

Yelp
Located on the 3rd floor of the Ritz-Carlton. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the brunch buffet with mimosa option. The selection is huge! Omelets, grits, bbq shrimp, fancy cheese, fresh watermelon juice, and homemade King's cake donuts to name a few. Also included are made-to-order pancakes, waffles, and beignets. Just order them through your server. I enjoyed the grits, homemade donuts, shrimp, and some fancy cheese. I can't forget my mimosa too! Great quality. I wish I had room to try everything because it all looked so tasty. It's a good blend of Southern comfort and yoi r traditional breakfast favorites with the touch of Ritz-Carlton sparkle. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
I have been to M Bistro for Reveillon for the past 3 years. The first time it was GREAT. Last year it was okay, but I thought maybe I caught them on an off night. This time the food was absolutely dreadful. We're talking 2 people and 4 courses at $80 each. That's 8 different items and each of them were disappointing and lackluster. E-I-G-H-T. The atmosphere is the only reason I graced this review with two stars instead of one. If you want to stop by Davenport Lounge for a cocktail, I would say go for it, but stay the heck away from M Bistro.

Yelp
The ceviche is shrimp in sauce and a couple tomatoes. Also very overpriced. The sliders are very tasty and the truffle fries are basic fries for $12.

Yelp
We stayed at the Ritz and ate here with a group of friends for dinner. The food was good, however the service was terrible. Our server (I can't recall his name but he's a darker taller guy) rushed us to put in our order as if he was trying to get us out of there. He proceeded to have a poor attitude throughout the night. For instance, my friend asked for a drink menu, he snarkly said we don't have one instead of trying to be helpful and provide some recommendations or info on what the restaurant had. Overall, he was extremely rude and made us unwelcome despite us spending ~$500 on dinner.

Yelp
We enjoy breakfast at M Bistro. They have an excellent menu and a solid buffet. As we are vegan, we choose the buffet, to manage our selections. We really enjoyed house made donuts (even Jamie loves the donuts - more than the donuts in Portland Maine or Portland Oregon), sticky rolls, beignets, fresh fruit, oatmeal, grits, bran muffin, cantaloupe juice and black tea. There are many other options in the buffet, but most of which are not vegan. Recommended.

Yelp
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton and after being out touring all day, passed on going out to dinner one of our four nights and decided to eat dinner here. We also ate their breakfast a couple days. Especially for a hotel restaurant, M Bistro was fantastic. For dinner, I had the short ribs, my wife had the chicken. Both were incredible. Perfectly cooked, great flavors, and outstanding service. Super attentive, great mixed drinks, and despite being in a hotel, the ambience was great with Davenport playing live jazz in the adjacent lounge. We almost went here again, but ended up hitting a couple other places that were great too. Breakfast buffet was great too. If I had one complaint, it's the cost. Drinks are $16-18, breakfast buffet is $34 and individual ala carte was 21-28 for a pretty standard breakfast item. Dinners were pricey. It is the Ritz, so expected and can't knock off a star for that.

Yelp
Checked out M Bistro for culinary 2019. I started with the gumbo - delicious. Main entree was the speckled trout - I realized I like my trout grilled to make it a little flakier. Dessert was the chocolate hazelnut tart (Um, yes, it was incredible!). Friends had the gumbo, the chicken, and the chocolate hazlenut tarte. The other friend had the Taste of New Orleans, which included gumbo, a meat, and apple cinnamon bread pudding. They loved theirs and I enjoyed my gumbo and dessert. The speckled trout was sadly not great; I gave it to my friend because I knew he would like it. I would definitely return when it is not coolinary to enjoy dining from the regular menu. The service was great, as was to be expected. I love the Ritz, and look forward to returning.

Yelp
Very delicious and affordable option for dining before seeing a show at the Saenger. Parking validated for 8 hours and excellent service!

Yelp
My sisters and I went to M Bistro at the Ritz Carlton to celebrate my sister's birthday. It also happened to be during #coolinarynola so of course we took advantage of that! We all started with the oysters. I didn't care for them. They were small and just had too much going on for me personally. They gave us TEENY Tobasco bottles which was too cute. I had the scallops for my entree and it was delicious! They were cooked well, fresh, and flavored beautifully. I didn't care for the other items on the plate. The chocolate cake was my dessert of choice and I loved it. It was rich and creamy but not too sweet. Our entire experience was splendid. From the valet to the service, we enjoyed it all. I requested for a cheaters booth when I booked and they accommodated us. I liked the booth since it had curtains and gave us a lot of privacy. The courtyard is also stunning, great for hanging out with friends. Overall, the price was high for what you get but I think the experience was worth it.

Yelp
Oh please , please , please don't forget M Bistro on your trip. It's located inside of the Ritz Carlton and it is fabulous. My favorite dish is the gumbo. It's so good, I'm not interested in trying anyone else's gumbo in town. Such a comfort dish. It's enough of 'salty' and 'savory' , the ultimate comfort food and the perfect portion . We were also talked into trying their beignets, and let me tell you, they are awesome ! They are more perfected, very light and fluffy and come with dipping sauces : chocolate, vanilla and caramel. The service is the best. I don't know how else to express how perfect the service is. The ambiance is classy, yet friendly .

Yelp
We chose M Bistro because we wanted a meal, as opposed to small plates in the Davenport Lounge. The restaurant shares the same space as the Davenport Lounge, and with the right seat, you'll still have a great view of Jeremy Davenport and the band performing. The service was impeccable! We were provided with complimentary bread (cornbread and rolls). They were both good. I started with a drink, the 1718 Tricentennial. It was amazing and ironically cost $17.18 lol. We both ordered the pork chop stuffed with boudin, covered with a mustard green gravy and accompanied by sweet potatoes. It was good, but I was still hungry afterwards. So mental note, order more food the next time! We tried the red velvet doberge and bread pudding for desert. I wasn't a huge fan of the doberge cake, but the bread pudding was quite unique. If you want a relaxing evening, good service and great live music, then definitely give M Bistro a try. By the way, the gumbo is amazing! We were able to sample some before entering the restaurant...it's the best I've had In NOLA! I'll certainly be back!

Yelp
The Ritz Carlton's all day dining restaurant hides on the 3rd floor lobby level, tucked behind the dark jazz bar. With no obvious signage, dinner guests have to discover its discrete location, strut through the midst of the bar patrons, and stand among the tables, hoping to be noticed by staff. Once greeted, diners are generally brought to tables that feature a great view (and clear earshot) of the jazz performance, a plus for those who don't require lots of conversation. Unexpectedly, our waiter was all business, showing no interest in conversation or getting to know us. Menus were presented, along with excellent corn bread and rolls, paired with really nice butter. The $18 kids menu offered some simple options, and we went with chicken strips, mashed potatoes, and a raspberry smoothie, all top notch. The $35 bouillabaisse was an experience in saltiness. The two prawns were decent, but the fish as well as the mussel decked toast tasted like the ocean, unpleasantly fishy and salty, and most was abandoned on the plate. The Taste of New Orleans set menu was hit and miss. The seafood gumbo tasted great, with a balance of salt, spice and creole contents that made all three of us happy. The blackened redfish was decent, set on a bed of over salted but nicely textured black-eyed peas, Shrimp ÉtouffÉe, and fried okra. An ok dish, but far from remarkable. Dessert, an apple cinnamon bread pudding was tasty, but didn't stand out as something that fit particularly well on a menu designed for a New Orleans taste experience. When the unpleasant bouillabaisse was mentioned to the waiter, he responded with an ok and disappeared, no mention of it again or attempt to make it right. For bar food like chicken strips and drinks at least, this venue has a good thing going, but for something special and authentic, M Bistro sadly doesn't deliver, instead providing the kind of food that one would expect from a tourist trap restaurant on the French Quarter street.

Yelp
We visited this spot last night and it was HORRIBLE. The waiter was not attentive at all and didn't pay us any mind. After we received the check, I noticed there was a 20% gratuity added for two people and on the menu it states 20% is added for a party of six or more. When the waiter came back after I asked for the manager and I asked him what was their policy for gratuity. He stated he depends on the number of people and asked was it just us two sitting at the table and I said yes. He asked to see the receipt which I gave him. He said he would take it off which he did. Not only was the service poor but the waiter decided to take it upon himself to add gratuity where it was not warranted. We were the only black couple in the restaurant and felt we were judged based off our race even though our waiter was black. This was my first time at the restaurant and I would not recommend to anyone.

Yelp
The food at this restaurant was very good. The ambience was quite nice...dimly lit, nice jazz playing in the background, nice decor. Our server was less than friendly but we didn't let that ruin our experience. I have been here on more than one occasion and the food has been consistently good. I wasn't in the mood for gourmet on this visit and just wanted a good ol' New Orleans shrimp po boy. They don't have this on the regular menu but the wonderful hostess made it happen...she was awesome. I really appreciate her doing that because she certainly did not have to. The po boy was DELICIOUS!!! Piled high with the most flavorful shrimp you'd ever want to eat. We also had the beignets with three dipping sauces which I always have to get. These are a "must try." Overall, the experience was good and I'll be back.

Yelp
I am still grinning ear to ear from the amazing service I received today from the bartender at M Bistro today. He should seriously give workshops on excellent customer service. We popped in to get some gumbo because we heard it was some of the best in the city. Folks didn't exaggerate. Our fellow also talked us into trying the beignets and let me tell you, the dipping sauces were something else. It made me rethink my expectations of beignets. The ambiance of the Ritz was amazing. It felt like being transformed back in time to a place of sophistication and class.

Yelp
The atmosphere is very elegant. The staff was exceptional. The food left a lot to be desired in my opinion. I had the Taste of New Orleans, which includes Gumbo, blackened red fish and bread pudding for dessert. The portions are healthy, the ingredients were very fresh, food was served hot. The presentation was nice but there just wasn't enough flavor for me. I think this restaurant is worth trying if not just for the experience.

Yelp
This place varies between 3-4 stars. Tonight it is a low 3, since we came early to get seats for Super Bowl and they are unable to get the big screen on stage to play the game. Wine list is good. Snacks are good. Live music, when available, is nice and adds to the experience.

Yelp
Atmosphere: exceptional Live music: Fantastic! Service: AMAZING! Holla at mah boi, Chat, (that's his name!) for being awesome and saving me from being served dairy, lol. Food:...like, between a 5 and a 2. A 5 for the octopus, a 2 for the pork chop. Hence, 3. Sorry, guys! We arrived at approximately 9 pm, just in time for the live jazz band to start playing! The restaurant is conveniently nestled right behind the Davenport Lounge, and you can listen to the live music without being amidst all the people in the lounge (it's a little louder there) so I'm gonna say that seating was perfect. A dimly lit, romantic little place, I really enjoyed going there with the love of my life. Unfortunately, a group that sat behind us were extremely loud and a little brash, and they really ruined the atmosphere. For a place like this, individuals who are going to be roudy should go somewhere else. Anyways, I'm sure the restaurant can't control that....maybe?...no just kidding...but could they..?! JK. I digress. I told Chat, our wonderful server, all my allergies, and he was on TOP of it! When we got a little "gift" from the chef, he swooped in and said "NOOOOOO" (drama added) and made sure I did not take a bite. He knew it had dairy in it, and he proceeded to rescue me from days of misery. Props to him for knowing his stuff! We got bread while waiting (i didn't have any. Boyfriend said it was unimpressive). I ordered pork chop because I'm a hungry girl and the kitchen said they could make it without dairy. Well, I feel like I got the short end of the stick. Instead of "making it without dairy", they just took out a majority of the sides. The pork is supposed to come with creamed mustard greens, purple rice grits, and something else. Instead, I got cubed sweet potatoes that weren't even cooked all the way. I should've said something there, especially because they guaranteed they could at least make the mustard greens without dairy. Instead, they didn't make it for me at all. That was disappointing. And they said they couldn't do the grits because "it already has butter in it"...don't they make their own grits back there? I'm not at a fast-food joint where everything comes pre-made...am i?! MEH. The pork chop was dry (which...dry food is the BANE of my existence.) My boyfriend's food, the duckbreast, was reasonable. I think it was lacking in flavor. The true star of the show was the grilled octopus that came as an appetizer. Man, when i say that octopus was perfection, I mean that octopus was PERFECTION. It was perfectly cooked. The meat was so tender. So flavorful. Right amount of salt...it came out with carrots and some type of leafy green. I feel the ancillary vegetables didn't do much for the dish and the chef maybe should work on balancing out the flavors among the different ingredients, but if they just served me a whopping plate full of JUST octopus. I would get it I would get it 1000x over. (much better than the pork chop! yikes) All in all, I'd come here again for the live music and the atmosphere, but I would probably not bother ordering anything other than the octopus, lol.

The service at the Ritz Carlton is always top notch. The truffle fries were good and I enjoyed the gumbo and the fish. The oysters were horrible though. Way too much cheese melted over and I ate a bunch of sand in my first oyster so that was a bust

Yelp
We went to M Bistro on Fat Tuesday. I was surprised when they had a table but was thankful later. First, the security needed to relax a bit. I know it was a busy day and it's a Ritz Carlton (we were dressed as we would be traditionally due to the festivities) but i found her to be very rude even when we told her we had reservations. The restaurant itself is a bit confusing to get to. You have to take the elevator to the third floor. There are not clear signs when you enter from Canal. Outside of these two hiccups, our experience was lovely. The seafood gumbo is a must! My husband got the pork chop and said it was the top one or two he's ever had (to which i didn't take kindly to lol). I ordered the taste of New Orleans with the redfish. It was tasty but slightly over cooked. My friend ordered the snapper. It was on point. The bread pudding was good overall. I'd give this place a 4.5 if i could.

Yelp
I am hoping we had an off night as I would've loved to give this place 4 stars. The staff and ambiance was a solid 4.5 stars - just an amazing energy and vibe thanks to it being snuggled in the beauty of the Ritz. We ordered the bisque and all had different seafood dishes that were presented well and overall tasty. The only issue was all the dishes were a bit too salty. Seafood shouldn't require much additional salt so not sure what happened. I will for sure give this place another try just in case it was a one off oops!

Yelp
We planned to fly into Nawlins fairly early but bad weather cancelled our flight and we got in about 9 pm, we were tired so ordering room service and just crashing sounded like the best thing to do, we don't usually use room service because the food's not the best and the price is high. The price was high but the fried shrimp poboy and the fried chicken tenders and fries were exceptional. The shrimp were crunchy on the outside and tender inside, nicely spiced just like the tenders.

Yelp
BEST APPETIZER I HAD OUT OF 150 RESTAURANTS I TRIED IN 2013! TEMPURA FRIED JAMBALAYA FRITTERS, chipotle remoulade: amazing app! THE MARAUDERS' MAP ON HOW IN THE HELL TO FIND M! For those entering the Ritz from the Vieux Carré entrance here's a Baedeker: 1) Walk down the long tiled hallway until you pass the gift shop; 2) Bear left around the fountain into a cavernous earth-toned byway; 3) Find the mid point of this passage and make a right; 4) Continue past the bathrooms and proceed up the steps; 5) Upon entering the large white marbled vestibule (heaven's waiting room?) turn left; 6) Here you will find an unmarked elevator bank, press 3rd floor (some aren't labeled); 7) On floor 3 exit left and pass into the lobby; Caution! Do not veer toward reception; 8) Instead take the steps on your right up to a garden atrium mezzanine; 9) Turn left but stay to your right until you reach a second receiving foyer; 10) Hang a left down the steps into a bar area; Beware! This is not the restaurant! 11) Pass through this lounge and the restaurant can be found toward the rear. 2013 FAVORITES: - Appetizer: M BISTRO, "Jambalaya Tempura Fritters with Chipotle Remoulade" - Best Restaurant: COQUETTE - Breakfast: JIMMY J'S, "Monte Cristo & Home Fries" - Burger: COWBELL, "Cheeseburger with an Agogo/Ketchup mix" - New Cafe: MISTER GREGORY'S,"Traditional Croque","Pain Perdu Cupcake" - Price/Value: MOJO LOUNGE, "Thai Wrap with potato salad, $7.50" - Prix Fixe Lunch: CRIOLLO, "Osso Buco", "White Chocolate Creme Brûlée" - Salad: CARMO, "The Brazilian" - Sandwich: MILK BAR, "Shrimply the Best"

Yelp
Secret's out. M Bistro is offering a 2-course lunch for $10 M-F with complimentary valet. Went with some ladies last week, and the service was TOP NOTCH. I felt like royalty. I am convinced that New Orleans restaurants have the best service in the country. Treat yourself to lunch and eat like a queen for $10!

Yelp
Overall: Food - 3 stars Wine - 5 stars Service - 3.5 stars We went for the Reveillon Menu -- we liked that it gave us a few options for each course, and we also liked the wine pairings. Although, honestly, I just like wine.... I digress. The food was okay. Not bad, not great. Just okay. First Course: - Roasted Beet Salad: Good! I especially liked the little goat cheese smear underneath everything. I think it would have been better with more of the pecans. - Sweet Potato Bisque: Also good! Light and airy. Second Course: - Duck Confit Gnocchi: Good, could have been better. The duck was a little too salty for me and the gnocchi was less gnocchi-like and more like little fried mashed potato balls. Granted, I love little fried mashed potato balls, so this is ok. Third Course: - Rib-eye: Asparagus was cooked perfectly. The rib-eye itself craved seasoning, but it was perfectly cooked. Fourth Course - The chocolate and strawberry desserts were nice. The souffle was way too eggy. Service was very attentive, but (and this is a major pet peeve of mine) after I footed the (extremely expensive) bill, the waiter assumed my (male) dining partner did and placed the check in front of him. It's little things like that that make me not want to return to nice restaurants.

Yelp
Dinner at M Bistro was perfect. Service, food, and atmosphere were great. The pork chop was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The andouille mac-n-cheese it comes with is the best mac n cheese I've ever had. The filet was also perfectly cooked. Topped with just the right amount of crab sauce. Dinner for 2 with appetizers, dessert, and wine runs about $140 before tip. Worth every penny! TIP: If you dine later, Jeremy Davenport comes on at 9PM. Amazing Jazz while you eat. Can't beat that. Highly recommend M Bistro.

Yelp
Company in town staying at the Ritz. Our dinner plans fell through, so we went to the hotel restaurant. Service was great, food too and as a bonus they have a regular jazz group in the adjoining bar. We had too many of the delicious apps and dessert overstuffed us. However, four different desserts were all good. Especially loved the bread pudding and the beignets.

Yelp
While walking out after lunch I saw plates of food that I did not see on our lunch menu. Oysters on half shell and beignets. I'm not sure what happened. My shrimp tacos were fine, nothing to write home about. My hub and loved his tuna Cobb salad.

Yelp
Swanky sophistication, we were her for appetizers and they were tres Bon! The cheese plate was full of vibrant piquant cheeses, crusty bread, fabulous jam..the sausage plate equally wonderful and other fussy, prissy server was just so posh!

Yelp
We enjoyed our experience at M Bistro. Our server, Michael, was fantastic. He was very attentive, had great recommendations, and made us feel very welcome. We each started with a speciality cocktail and they were well-constructed. I had an heirloom tomato salad as an appetizer and he had the kale, beet, and apple salad. Then Michael brought us an amuse of the chef's seafood gumbo which was delicious. For our entrees I had a rack of lamb that was cooked nicely and very flavorful. I couldn't eat all 4 chops as it was a nicely sized portion. He had the pork chop and loved it! We were very full but Michael kindly brought us some beignets because he heard us talking about going for some later. We were so glad he did because they are by far the best we've had in New Orleans. They drive them with chocolate, vanilla, and caramel sauces on the side. The food and service were great!

Yelp
Was hopeful for a great meal post setting up booth all day. Waited 40 minutes for a steak that was nearly burned (but ordered medium rare) another 40 minutes later. We still wait to get out of here. Was disappointing. Slow. And over-bearing service oscillating to being ignored. We were only one of a handful of tables and they could not make it happen. So if it is busy. Run. Second delivery of food was cooked right and good. Would have been better with the rest of the food.

Yelp
Limited menu, but not a single disappointment on it. Wait staff is professional, knowledgeable and dedicated - they like what they do and they're proud of the food. A current version of one of older classics, worth the money and occasional wait.

Yelp
There are probably better places for a lot less in New Orleans but you are at the Ritz so why not indulged. The menu was very creative and unique with lots of options. I had the madam Benedict and my father had the veggie omelet. They both were amazing. We actually liked them so much we kicked our plates clean. The coffee is perfect and I wish I could buy a lb of it. The staff is very attentive. The only reason for the loss of the star is the price because what we had at any nice diner would have been half the price.

Yelp
Overall a good experience. Our waiter Michael was friendly, outgoing and helpful. We started with the beet salad and seafood romelaude appetizers. Both were outstanding. We each had the chicken for dinner. That was just meh - neither good nor bad. Since we would up waiting a while for our dinner, Michael arranged for fresh beignets for dessert from the house. They were absolutely outstanding! The best we have ever had. Warm and light tasting. OMG! We enjoyed a cappuccino with them. We would definitely try them again but skip the chicken.
