The 38 Best Restaurants in Bangkok, Thailand | Eater

"Many Northern Thais don’t really leave their home region, which is why the Northern Thai food in Bangkok is usually abysmal. This open-air eatery in suburban Bangkok is a rare exception, thanks to its accurate renditions of regional favorites. Originally run by a family from Lampang, Maan Muang has since taken on new owners who stay faithful to the old recipes, including a great gang hang lay (Burmese-style pork belly stew), sai oua (Northern Thai sausages), and the best saa pak (a vegetable salad that has to be ordered ahead) south of Chiang Mai." - Chawadee Nualkhair

"This lovely wooden Lanna house with rustic charm will magically whisk you off to Chiang Mai. The dining area under the raised house is decorated with traditional Thai wooden furniture and earthenware. The staff too are dressed in Northern Thai fashions and speak in a regional dialect. But it’s the dizzying array of dishes and beautiful blend of northern ingredients that tops it off. The Thai curry soup with pork ribs and jackfruit hits the spot." - Michelin Inspector

Thai North Food Original is located in the eastern part of Bangkok. I visited the restaurant five years ago, and at that time, the queue was incredibly long due to its popularity. Recently, they’ve expanded the seating capacity to accommodate over 100 guests, making it much more comfortable for diners. The new design beautifully showcases traditional Northern Thai architecture, adding an authentic and cultural touch to the dining experience. Despite the growth and renovations, the food remains consistently delicious, preserving the rich flavors and quality that made it famous. The menu features a variety of Northern Thai specialties, each prepared with care and traditional ingredients. The ambiance now feels more spacious and welcoming, perfect for both locals and tourists seeking a taste of Northern Thailand in the heart of Bangkok. Rate it 5. 😋😋

• Good but not excellent • One of the most popular Northern-style Thai restaurants in Bangkok, offering hundreds of dishes on the menu. The taste is authentic with unique ingredients, good but not excellent. • The atmosphere is decorated in true Northern style, giving you the feeling of dining in Chiang Mai. • It’s 5 stars, but if you come with very high expectations, it might feel more like 4.

You don’t have to travel all the way to Chiang Mai to enjoy authentic Northern Thai food — Bangkok has it too! From Khao Soi, Hang Lay Curry, Nam Prik Noom to Larb Kua, every dish is packed with rich flavors and aromatic spices. The cozy atmosphere makes it feel just like dining in the North.

This northern cuisine with Michelins awards was newly renovated and expanded. The kao soi beef was creamy and intense in flavor with soft tendon beef. The fried chicken was super crispy and juicy.

A truly traditional Thai food experience! Do watch out for the spice! The crab roe and elephant ear dip are exotic!

Long established Northern restaurant in Sammakorn village. Apart from basic northern dishes, they also offer unusual and seasonal ingredients/menu as well. It took not long for all the food to be served, all dishes were made by good ingredients and decent cooking techniques. The staffs were active and lively, even we sat next to the street but didn’t get distracted by noise nor car smoke at all. Worth visiting if you will be around, advance reservation is highly recommended.
