We've been going since 2008. Always an excellent meal--usually we go for lunch. Fresh ingredients, authentic Peruvian flavors, lovely staff--especially Carlos and Lily. Occasional specials like picarones (sweet potato/squash donut) and festive parties and brunches with distinct menus and live music or a DJ. The menu changes a little bit over the years, with most of the classics remaining. I really miss the Chupe de Camarones and the Papa Rellena! Please bring back those delicious dishes soon. The photo attached is of the Parihuela--a spicy seafood stew that is out of this world amazing! Check out their sister restaurant Machu Chicken across the street for rotisserie chicken and mucho mas!

I was here at 5:30pm on a Tuesday so it was not busy at all. Service was fantastic. My waiter was very attentive and friendly. He was looking up pictures of food to show me sizes and what it came with. Food was fantastic. The tamal was huge; almost double the size of a “regular” tamale. There was a big chunk of pork in it as well. The Pescado A Lo Macho was amazing. Lots of seafood and the sauce is worth it.

Gorgeous food, dignified friendly service. Space is beautiful, filled with light. A tasteful decor sets the mood and maybe even fill worth longing to travel to the land of this land of flavors, history and adventure. Mach Pitchu is my weekly favorite. The food is ALWAYS fresh, light and full of invigorating zest.

We had such a wonderful experience here! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Our server, Santiago, made the lunch even better—he was very attentive, friendly, and welcoming from the moment we sat down. He offered excellent recommendations, checked in often without ever being intrusive, and made sure our table had everything we needed. His service was outstanding from start to finish and really made us feel taken care of. It was truly a great lunch, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing food and excellent service!

Minor about the food the steak came medium versus medium rare. I flagged down the waiter and they brought me a new steak right away at my preferred cook. Green spaghetti was delicious. Service was good, they checked up on me. They give peruvian corn nuts as complementary appetizer with delicious. Ambiance was great with a mix of Cumbia. Happy birthday was very special for the neighboring table.

The food was wonderful. The service, not so much. Although we were outside so we had to signal to get attention. The atmosphere was good outside, but inside the background music was so loud, it drowned table conversations. Not sure why they did that. And no AC during a hot day. Not sure why either. I will return though.

The food at Machu Picchu was disappointingly mediocre. We had the following: Octopus appetizer: tough and a bit chewy. Aguadito: this cilantro soup was the best dish Aji de Gallina: good portion and decent flavor but was hoping for better. Chaufa: hardly had any flavor…very disappointing. Nice atmosphere and very good service but the food has lots of room for improvement.

Beautiful place, very pleasant environment, and service was excellent. Food however was fairly so-so and yes, a bit overpriced for what you're getting. I think they really sell you on the ambience though, so that's what you're really getting and paying for here. The steak was pretty good, nothing great. My friend's "Yucca fries" actually turned out to be potatoes (or the most potato-like yucca ever), and my sweet plantains were weirdly bland and tasteless, inferior to the sweet plantains you get at Brazilian places even though they look exactly alike. Tried the Peruvian "Pilsen" beer, which was pretty decent (a bit better than the usual Bud/Heineken lager) though a bit on the small side for seven bucks. It was a pleasant visit but I doubt we'll be back though I'm curious about their ceviche. All in all, 3.5 stars

Recently ordered takeout from here with a Peruvian friend. It was so good that I ordered it again the following night with my BF. Both times, the food was yummy!!! Food: I got the yuquitos, leche de tigre, chaufa, mazamorra morado, and pisco flan. The leche de tigre, chaufa, and pisco flan were amazing!!! 5/5!!! Definitely get the "green sauce" with the chaufa. Makes a world of difference. The yuquitos and mazamorra morado were a little disappointing, so I wouldn't recommend those. Portion sizes of things, except for the yuquitos, are good. However, 4/5 stars for the price. I definitely think that the food here is $3-5 too much. $20 for chaufa and $10 for 6 yucca fries?! Crazy and wayyyyy overpriced!!! Service: Got takeout, so I can't truly comment. I definitely want to eat in the restaurant sometime, so I'll have to reassess. That being said, order the food and getting it delivered or picking it up was super fast! Ambiance: Again ... need to experience this in person, but it looked like it was very cute inside. All and all, this place is worth trying and yummy. Definitely need to try the service here and more entrees. Just wish it wasn't so overpriced.

Peruvian restaurant nestled right in the middle of Union Square off of Bow Market. We came as a party of two on an early Saturday evening and were able to find a seat quickly. We had actually just from a Miami trip about a month prior and were in the mood for some ceviche, which this restaurant was the only one closest to us they offered. We got the ceviche, which was fresh and well marinated but only offered one type of fish in their plate. It was good but lacking depth. We also got their seafood fried rice, which was also tasty, but had very strong Asian fusion vibes - just an observation. For the price point, not worth. The last dish we also ordered was a steak and rice that came with fries - again, delicious but nothing too special. Portion was small for the price Tldr; pretty good ceviche, but it is pricey. I wouldn't come here unless you're REALLT craving Peruvian.

Machu Picchu has a warm and welcoming vibe with friendly, attentive staff who made sure our drinks arrived promptly. We ordered the Yuquitas, tamal criollo, and Anticuchos, all of which had a lot of potential flavor-wise. However, the food came out at a warm-to-cool temperature and quickly lost heat, which took away from the full experience. While the cocktails were on point, we feel the meal would have been more memorable if served hotter, as the flavors would have really shined. Great ambiance and service, but we hope for hotter plates next time to elevate the flavors even more.

Had lunch here with a friend and everything was delicious. We got the ceviche (with a white fish) and lomo saltado and I have no complaints at all. The ceviche was especially good, with the perfect amount of zest and serving sizes were generous. Would come again.

I've heard great things about this spot so I knew it was time to visit! It was empty on a tuesday evening which I do prefer however I feel like I missed the atmosphere it has on a friday or saturday evening. The decor was pretty simple and didn't stand out to me which is fine because it's about the food. We decided to try the anticuchos which is basically a beef heart skewer but not on the single stick and was $18 and it wasn't that great. But, the cocktail was so delicious I don't see many cocktails using chambord so I decided to treat myself. It truly was a sugar rush in the best way. Now to the star- the tallarin verde steak... I had gotten it because it had stood out to me on yelp photos but I wasn't sure if pasta was the way to go at a Peruvian spot. I have not gone to a Peruvian restaurant in so long if ever, so I was on the fence. However, I ended up trying it and the pasta was so freaking GOOD, perfectly seasoned and just enough cheese. If I am being honest, better than the north end pastas I've tried lol. Nobody come for me please ...... and the steak was tender and juicy. I felt like a dog that was salivating over the meat. Apps here are extremely overpriced so I would skip and go for the entree items which are good size and get some drinks while you are at it. They have a lot of nice non-alcoholic drinks as well. Despite some disappointments the food and drinks came out in my book as worth coming again and next time I'll be smart about it. Accessible location, large dining room and smaller intimate spaces, and a full bar stretching the back of the restaurant. Quick, no fuss seating, inside or out on a crisp Saturday night. Staff was very friendly, had great recommendations. Food was served quickly and pipping hot. The seafood rice was flavorful with plenty of fresh seafood. The chicken fried rice was a tad salty. Which I hadn't finished it all before the server returns, I would have asked for some honey to calm the saltiness. Overall delicious meal.

Popped in for a Friday afternoon lunch. Cannot speak too much about the ambiance or vibes as it was a mid week lunch, however I wouldn't expect this spot to have an over-exciting dining atmosphere. With that said, the food was fantastic! I grabbed a photo of the Aguadito soup as it was delicious and is a must order. Every time I eat in a Peruvian restaurant I get this, and at Machu Picchu - it's the best I've had! Flavorful cilantro based broth packed with soft potato & carrots, and delicious bits of chicken! For an entree I ordered Seco De Carne a La Nortena. This is a dish I will 100% order again when I go back. Soft stewed beef you can cut with a fork, with a side of crunchy slices raw onions, rice and beans. Very simple, but classic, comfort style food. Only comment I have was the beef was a bit saltier than expected. I'm excited to get back here and try to the Lomo Saltado & ceviche. If you're driving thru Union Sq give this place a serious look! Their cocktail menu looked great as well.

Delicious!!! Try the purple corn drink, it was honestly fantastic. The staff was very attentive and kind, and the ambiance was also fantastic. A very local, wholesome spot in Somerville.

My friend suggested we go to Machu Picchu while I was in town and I'm super glad she did! We shared a few dishes and each one was amazing - my favorite was the octopus, though our lomo soltado and ceviche were both great too. My pisco sour was perfect - I'd been craving one since a recent trip to Cusco. The service was great and I highly recommend checking this place out.

This is a Peruvian gem in Somerville near union square. I was here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We did not have reservations but there was ample space inside. We got a variety of dishes, Choclo and octopus to start. I have never had Peruvian food and let me tell you .. everything that came on the table was delicious! We also got Peruvian tea which came in a super cute kettle. For our mains we got a Ceviche with haddock. The serving sizes are very large and the service itself is phenomenal. Highly recommend to try this place out!

I love this place. The food is very authentic and the service is good. My favorite is ceviche mixto and the Parihuela soup. Also love the ambiance because they always play the Latin American music which is very lively, and the decorations are fun and full of Latin elements.

Whenever we go to a new city, we look for a Peruvian restaurant to taste their flavor. As a mostly Peruvian family, it is a must for us to see if it tastes authentic or not. This place did not disappoint. It is a small drive from Boston but worth it. The food was delicious. It had been a while since I had a decent tasting Chicharon sandwich. My son's favorite is the aji de gallina and some places don't get the flavor right. Here he said it was on point. The drinks were delicious. The service was quick and the service staff was very attentive. They had typical Peruvian music playing. We felt like we were back in Peru. Can't wait to come back again and try something else.

Was here for a birthday celebration and had a blast! Very friendly staff, clean and artsy decor, and even live music. Since we were with a larger party I got to try a lot of different dishes. -tamal criollo: definitely a highlight! Well-seasoned masa and meat inside that paired wonderfully with the pickled veggies. -ceviche de pescado: fresh seafood, very strong citrus flavor. -yuquitas: these were solid but a bit small, and I found the sauce on the bland side. I would pass on these. -tallarín with steak: okay, this was amazing. The basil-spinach spaghetti had a good bite (consistency/texture) to it and the flavors were balanced and addictive. The steak was also juicy and tasty (I had mine medium rare which I would recommend - it was cooked more towards medium but came out delicious). I do wish the potatoes were more seasoned. Tried both the pisco sour and I believe the costa verde cocktail, which were both delicious. For birthday celebrations the staff come out and sing happy birthday and give the birthday celebrant a cute hat to wear for pictures and videos. I would definitely come back for a date night or nicer dinner with friends :)

Great food as always and the portions are good imo. Everything from the empanada, to the steak, to the infamous green sauce came out great and it's such a family friendly place. I took off a star because the service was a little delayed, the staff takes a bit to come around, but overall I recommend and will go back.

We had a reservation for an early dinner here. It was surprisingly lively even before the typical dinner rush, with several large families/groups gathered. The food was meh to begin with. I ordered the ceviche de pescado, which comes atop a piece of lettuce and has cancha (corn nuts), choclo (corn kernels), and a piece of sweet potato on the side. As is quite typical at Peruvian restaurants, the table is served with cancha as an appetizer (similar to bread at Italian restaurants or tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants).The best part of it was probably the hearty hot stone plate that the food came on. The ceviche itself was okay but relatively bland, while the accompanying sides were generally unappetizing. It certainly wasn't worth $23 by any stretch of the imagination. But what really knocked it out of the park was that there were HAIRS in the food. I found the first hair after a few bites, then set it aside and tried to ignore it - until I found more hair throughout the meal. Anyone would have trouble enjoying dinner after that! The other dish was the lomo saltado (stir-fried steak with onions and tomatoes), which came with rice and fries. The stir fry was fine, and the sides were basic and what you'd expect. The service was just okay. For example, when we entered, we weren't greeted by anyone (even though there were a few employees standing at the kiosk near the door). Nobody really checked in on us throughout the meal, but the staff took our order, so I guess they fulfilled the basic requirements of the job. The family-friendly environment is probably the most appealing characteristic of this place. The ambiance is nice enough, with décor that evokes Peruvian icons - like my favorite animal, the alpaca. Combined with the lackluster food and service, this restaurant could've been 3 stars, but having hair in my dish definitely lowered it to 2 stars. If someone in my life is dying to come here, I wouldn't refuse to return, but it's definitely not on my list of places I'd like to eat at again.

Definitely not cheap but I felt like the prices were worth what we got. Wasn't too crowded and was able to be seated right away on a Friday evening. The music in the restaurant is very fun and the bathrooms were nice. There's a ton of good options on the menu and it's hard to choose. I tried a bite of the ceviche and wished I had gotten that, but it is a lot of acid after a while. The entrees were so big one could easily feed two people. They do a good job with the calamari, not rubber at all.

We made a reservation for 7 and didn't get seated until 8 which is completely unacceptable. The host didn't even apologize. If you want Peruvian, go to Celeste.

I really wanted to give them 5 stars but the empanada was just not worth 8.00 and had zero zero flavor! I mean it looked and smelled amazing. But once I took a bite I realized I was fooled. Well the ambiance is great and the staff is super friendly. The lomo Saltado was spot on but wish they mixed the fries with the dish. I saw different plates coming out of the kitchen and everything looked 5 stars! Give them a chance if your in the mood for some Peruvian food. Prices are higher than usual and portions are smaller

My sister and I ate dinner here last night, and the food didn't disappoint! Our favorite was the ceviche as it was super fresh and tangy from lots of lime. We liked the service as well (we noticed that they go all out for birthdays). The drinks were also satisfying and it's an overall wonderful vibe!

I sat for 30mins before I got someone to take my order. They are really nice and the aesthetic is beautiful but I was not impressed with the food. I ordered the mussels it is not cooked they said they cooked them with lemon. So they changed it for me for the grilled octopus which wasn't any better. I had the chicken and it was kind of flavorless. I also had this corn that was huge, I think it may be harmony beans cause that's what it tasted like. It just wasn't for me. Someone else might have a different experience.

Machu Picchu is incredible! Delicious and extremely authentic Peruvian food. I came here with a group of friends I met on a trip to Peru so we know what good Peruvian food tastes like. One of my favorite meals I had in Peru was tallarines verdes and I was so excited to see that they had it on the menu. I would highly recommend trying it. It is kind of like a cheesy pesto pasta with potatoes and meat. We ordered the empanadas and Peruvian corn too. Also, it happened to be my friends birthday and we told our server. At the end of our meal all the servers crowded around our table and sang happy birthday to her. It was so fun and nice! We had an amazing experience here everyone was so friendly. Highly recommend!

I've been coming to Machu Picchu since 2014, customer service is always amazing, I'm a regular client and Carlos always takes good care of us, he always exceed our expectations delivering good quality conversations and hospitality, every time we open the door he always greet us with a smile, food is out of this world, this is the most authentic Peruvian food you'll have in Boston, it's like being in Lima again. Carlos if you read this I wanna say you are amazing and thank you for everything. I will come back soon!!

The food was SOOOOO good. New to the Boston area and it's probably the best place I've had since arriving. Had the Lomo Saltado, Ceviche de Pescado, Seco a La Norteña, and plantains. The food was amazing, each dish was rich in flavor, service was fantastic, and the ambiance is priceless -- can't wait to come back again!

I finally made it to this restaurant today, and my only regret is that it took me so long. The people and atmosphere are really friendly, and the food is really good.The prices are also very reasonable too! I had the chicken they are famous for, with quinoa on the side. It also came with a little salad and two side sauces that had a nice, somewhat spicy flavor. It was nice to eat a delicious meal that was also healthy. Someone had a birthday while I was there, and they got a cake with a candle and they got to wear an Incan hat that had feathers in it while people sang "Happy Birthday" to them in English and Spanish. Very fun! They started out in a small space years ago, and are now in a much larger one. I can see why they have been so successful! I'll be back.

Machu Picchu was our first stop on a Union Square food tour we did and it was great!! The service was great and welcoming and the food was delightful. I don't normally drink alcohol but they gave us a shot of Pisco Sour to taste and I didn't pass it up... it was very nice of them to provide this extra treat. Plate to taste was roasted chicken, Peruvian corn and salad. Definitely will be back to eat a full meal!

Loved my dinner here the other night. The complimentary appetizer was delicious and the perfect start to the meal. We got the beef empanadas, which had a sweeter dough, and were pretty tasty. The yucca fries were exactly as expected. My mom got the cilantro soup, which was delicious. But what really blew my mind was the Peruvian fried rice!! It was absolutely phenomenal. Will be dreaming of it until I go back...

Loved their peruvian chicken!! It is very flavorful and tender. You can choose if you want dark or white meat and it comes with a yellow dipping sauce but I prefer the green sauce that comes with their free nuts.

The inside is very cool, there was singers and people dancing when I went on Mother's Day, the food was a little pricey but still really good , our server was amazing and so nice, he was Ecuadorian and was very interested in his job . The fish soup is the only thing that did not make me want to finish it, although my dad liked it, the soup was a little too fishy tasting and the broth was okay but still passing. Overall amazing experience and very pleasing lunch

lomo Saltado and Aji De Gallina are the best! So tasty!! Ceviche De Pescado it was okay but I'm not gonna try it again because I'm not really into steam food:) and the lemon flavor was intense! If u like lemon you will like it.

This place is rated high, so I wanted to try. Finally I did. I had appertizer combo plate, Peruvian cocktail to start, then for entree I had beef. Maybe because my expectation was too high? I wasn't so impressed. Main dish beef was still good, but no amazing. Servers were friendly and nice.

I really wanted to write a good review, because getting a food "tour" of Peru is a cool concept, but the food just wasn't that great. I liked the decor, that they had soccer on, and that the waitress was so attentive though. Yes, the choclo and sauce appetizer is cool. Ask for the spicy sauce with your meal, it's delicious. The plantains, fries, mashed potatoes, giant cooked corn kernels, and tamale were tasty. Unfortunately, my steak was undercooked, and fatty. The shrimp and sauce were good, but didn't save the dish. Some broccoli florets were not fresh as well, which was a downer. I don't plan on going back. I would rather have delicious Peruvian chicken, and authentic appetizers at a down home Peruvian place. I think they're trying too hard to make it a dining experience.

We ordered the Empanada and Jalea to get an authentic taste of traditional Peruvian food. Some history for self-reference: - Empanada: beef-stuffed pastry originated in Spain. Name comes from the verb "empanar": to wrap in bread. It is believed that empanadas and the very similar calzones are both derived from the Arabic meat-filled pies, samosas. The first account of empanadas appeared in Medieval Iberia during the time of the Moorish invasions. - Jalea de Mariscos: fried seafood, topped with lime-marinated dressing of onion, cilantro, and tomatoes. Originated from northern Peru (cities of Lambayeque and Piura) and has its roots in the ancestral technique of conservation of fish by Mochica people.

First time getting food from this spot, but been our list for a long time. Glad we stopped in to get take out! Delicious food, high quality ingredients, and pretty unique flavors from anything I have tried. I know very little about Peruvian cuisine, but the chicken soup was rich in flavor and filling. The steak tips were tender and well flavored. The chicken in yellow pepper sauce was like a mild curry almost, very good as well.

Tried Peruvian takeout in Washington DC, loved the Lomo Saltado and wanted to replicate my experience. Machu Picchu seemed to be the best candidate in the Boston area. Drove through a bit of traffic to get to Somerville for their takeout. Stood on line behind two other parties, and the manager at the cashier never acknowledged me and avoided any eye contact--all I just wanted to do was grab the takeout and go. Finally got to the front of the line and finally one of the wait staff got me my order, which was sitting on the table the entire time. Sigh. Got home and the order itself is delicious, but it was comprised of mostly onions, then beef, and literally only two slices of a tomato. My only other frame of reference was the Chicken Rico's in DC, and their Lomo Saltado was loaded with mostly tomatoes, beef and rice, then onions... for $14. So after fighting traffic, I was very disappointed in Machu Picchu. The order is a hefty $24, and unfortunately I was still hungry afterwards.

I am originally from Peru. I'm always looking for Peruvian restaurants wherever I go. I was so excited to try Machu Picchu, but unfortunately, I had a bad experience...the food doesn't taste anything like in my home country...nothing had flavor, the anticuchos were undercooked and to thick. The Kausa was bland, and the ceviche didn't taste like ceviche. The service was good, even though they were busy.

Had a pretty so-so meal at Machu Picchu yesterday. We were really excited to go due the high reviews but ultimately the food was just okay (overcooked steak in the Lomo Saltado[which also wasn't mixed together?], hard avocado in the salad, chicken was okay but nothing to write home about) and the drinks were all right (good mojito and chicha morada, but the Pisco Sour had curdled or something because the egg white topping was chunky). Service was fine and they had outdoor seating which was nice.

One of the best Peruvian places I've ever been to in Boston/Cambridge. Ambiance is great. Best part is that it does not have loud music or anything so ur experience will be really pleasant and peaceful. Food taste is great. We tried Sirloin beef tips, pulled chicken and couple of their rice dishes. Cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Street parking is also feasible. Serving size is reasonable. Service is good too. Must try!

First time trying out Peruvian Cuisine! We had Leche de Tigre as our appetizer, it's Ceviche with raw fish and shrimps in a cocktail glass, it's very good! Fish is very tasteful, I also tried dipping corn kernels into the ceviche juice and find it very good combination! We had Mar Y Tierra and Seco de Carne a la Norteña as our Main Course. Mar Y Tierra is grilled steak with shrimps on top then we opted for mashed potatoes and veggies on the side, I find the beef and seafood odd combination but it's actually good, changed my way of seeing things for sure, steak was cooked perfectly as how we liked it, the mashed potato wasn't bad at all, so buttery! Then the Seco de Carne a la Norteña is kind of a meh for me, my beef had a scattered texture and I can't seem to find what's it marinated in, rice was a bit undercooked but it has a good taste, will definitely give this another try!! Overall service was great, staff are friendly and food waiting time is average. Will def come back!

nice staff, good food, fresh and portion size was fine ... I'd passed by many times but never really thought to try it out, went on the suggestion of a friend. The main reason for 4 and not 5 is just availability of some items that were raved about by other diners but which are currently not available (pollo chan chan among them), so that was a bit disappointing. But what we got was quite alright + I'd certainly go back again ... hopefully they do bring back some specialty items soon though, the manager or owner (?) said they might + explained that they had to make some changes due to covid ... I can certainly understand that, and I also understand that offering some items might be complicated by logistics of food delivery, which sometimes seems to have taken precedence over in-restaurant dining for a lot of customers. Bottom line, definitely worth checking out, just make sure not to get too hung up on a particular item based on pictures ... you might just end up a slight bit disappointed : \ ... + make sure you check the current menu first to avoid such an outcome.

Went with my husband yesterday for our anniversary and the food we got was disappointing to say the least. From the chicha morada tasting tart and fermented to the dry on the top and fishy cebiche, to the Lomito Saltado being mainly onions and the Aji de gallina tasting like a pre packaged meal, our experience was below average. The only thing from the menu we really enjoyed were the inka colas and the alfajores we got to go. We also ordered 2 piscos sours, one classic and one maracuyá which were average at best. The service was ok, the runner was a little rough around the edges and our server forgot a couple of the beverages we ordered but she was ok and courteous overall. The ambiance was ok, nothing especial but I enjoyed the music selection in Spanish. Overall our experience was below average and with the restaurant having such an iconic name, as a Peruvian I am sad to say we wont be coming back.

In our in person visit, the service was lacking--we had to take it upon ourselves to flag down waiters, to bus our our plates (!!) because they placed us at a super small table and didn't bother to take away the dishes that were done. Then a rat ran between our legs. Getting take out here can also be hit or miss. We just ordered fried plantains and they were really bad--not carmelized, just overly mushy. After looking up how to do Peruvian chicken online and quite successfully making some very tasty marinated chicken with green sauce, I don't think we'll be coming here much more :/
