"MacLeod is an English-style microbrewery in Van Nuys, which means beers are brewed in-cask and poured right from the barrel with little-to-no carbonation. While that might not be for everyone, the good news is they have a fun, dog-friendly taproom with board games, live music, and good pizza that’s made in-house. And that’s definitely for everyone." - brant cox
"Hold up, there’s a British-style brewery in Van Nuys? And it’s amazing? Yes and yes. This indoor-outdoor taproom in an industrial section of the Valley is less "dark and cozy pub" and more "low-key loading dock with brewing equipment" but we love that there are lots of tables, lots of dart boards, and a welcoming crowd of locals. The beers here are brewed and poured in cask, which means robust flavors and little-to-no carbonation (it's a little odd to get used to, but quite tasty). For food options, expect a rotating cast of food trucks." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren, garrett snyder

"Jennifer Febre’s MacLeod Ale in the San Fernando Valley spent years fighting pandemic shutdowns and confusing red tape; she added a fully licensed pizza restaurant to the Van Nuys facility to help offset costs, but a Highland Park brewpub expansion in fall 2022 almost bankrupted the company—beer sales were down 20 percent even from the prior year—she briefly closed Highland Park, laid off staff and nearly shuttered Van Nuys, then slowly recovered enough to reopen and rehire a few workers while still carrying significant unpaid bills and acknowledging that her optimism rests on painful sacrifices to employees and vendors." - Farley Elliott
"I noted British ale maker MacLeod out of Van Nuys publicly airing struggles with supply-chain issues and slower sales, even going so far as to close its Highland Park taproom and pizzeria for a time." - Farley Elliott
