Counting Down the Best Restaurants in Marietta | Eater Atlanta

"Roaring ‘20s speakeasy meets modern steakhouse at Mac’s Chophouse. Housed in a meticulously restored Civil War-era building, this Marietta Square restaurant offers a polished, vintage-coded ambiance, complete with restored original wooden floors, exposed brick, bronze light fixtures, and plush banquettes. Under the guidance of chef and owner Michael Fuller, the menu spotlights juicy seared ribeyes and filet mignons alongside inventive small plates, like Yukhoe tuna gyoza tacos or beef Wellington bites with horseradish cream, that pair with an award-winning bourbon, wine, and craft cocktail program. Keep an eye out for special culinary events, including themed afternoon teas and dinners complete with sake or wine pairings." - Sarah Bisacca

The food was absolutely amazing! Every bite was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented (Thanks to the amazing cheif). I enjoyed every bite—you could tell real care went into the preparation. Maddie is an OVERLY OUTSTANDING server…definitely a spot I’ll be returning to soon. 10/10 I definitely recommend!!

✨️✨️ Mac's Chop House is one of my new favorite restaurants in Marietta... 100% recommend you visit for an exceptional business lunch or a quiet evening dinner. Or honestly, other reason you want. It's good! Elegant, quaint, delicious, and even a little bougie for historic Marietta. Service was upscale, professional yet friendly. The menu is diverse and thoughtful. And, I can't wait to return to try more things!

Google
Thanksgiving dinner was amazing at Mac’s. If you haven’t been to Mac’s what are you waiting for?!?!?! Food and service are top tier! My wife and I go at least once a month. We also had the Mac’s Margarita which was pear themed and it did not disappoint. We both had the filet which came with a lobster tail… so good! I ordered the lobster bisque and it was the best I’ve ever had!!

I love coming to macs chophouse! Their service is always great and food is always delicious! I hosted my sisters baby shower here and it was a great experience! They have a perfect event room!

Mac's Chop House has been very good every time we go. The bread they bring out is great. The steaks are seasoned and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is great. The service is impeccable. Its a nice place for either a family night out or a date night. Also the drinks are on point.

Ask for 2 seats outside cause we had dogs, the seating we had had no umbrella, every other table had one except us. and was burning under the sun. Ehh… food was good, seating was too hot esp for our dogs.

If you’re looking for the best night with excellent service, check out Mac’s Chop House. I did make a reservation ahead of time and glad I did. From the moment we sat down, we were greeted with friendly welcoming faces. They offered great recommendations of what to drink and to eat. Everything we had was solely based off those recommendations and made it less stressful trying to figure out what to eat. This is a place you really have to experience for yourself and yes the food and drinks tasted as good as the pictures look.

Google
Had a very late lunch with my husband here today, and it was delicious! We were offered the dinner menu at 3pm. I had the extra crispy chicken (and yes it was extra crispy!) and my husband had one of the steaks which he really enjoyed. Even though it was in between mealtime, the restaurant was filled with folks having a cocktail and or small bites, which helped create a welcoming atmosphere and great ambiance. Will come back very soon!

Yelp
My uncles hosted their 75th birthday party here. We had a private room that comfortably fit 14 people. We were loud. It was private. Service was attentive. There was a prix fixe menu with options to suit everyone. Started off with a Caesar salad. I had the filet (perfectly medium rare) with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Sides were served family style. Finished with a chocolate mousse cake. All food was cooked well and portions were generous. The servers kept the alcohol flowing and remembered our names. I highly recommend this restaurant for your next family party.

Yelp
There's always been something about this place that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but the recent 64 health score confirmed long-standing concerns. Mac's is wildly overrated and overpriced, and now recently noted - unsanitary. The restaurant has publicly stated that the low score was primarily due to "administrative documentation" and "knowledge-based protocols." However, the official inspection report tells a more concerning story. Their previous inspection scores -- 83 and 87 -- suggest this wasn't an isolated incident, but part of an ongoing pattern. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health inspection dated 12/30/25, violations included: * Black buildup inside two ice machines * Raw lobster thawed in stagnant water * A repeat violation - Cold food held in temperatures above 41 degrees (produce and raw meat reaching temperatures up to 56 degrees!) * Employees handling raw meat and then ready-to-eat food without washing hands * Handwashing sinks blocked or used for non-handwashing purposes * Employee food and drinks stored on prep tables * Expired food safety certification and missing inspection posting These are not minor administrative oversights, they are basic food safety failures. I can also speak from personal experience. I once ordered the tuna tacos and found several strawberries mixed directly into the tuna. They were not part of the dish. This appeared to be cross-contamination from nearby prep. When I mentioned it to my server, the response was a casual, "Do you want another?" At that point, I had no interest in eating anything else. After the inspection score was made public, comments on their social media were turned off. While they've invited guests to contact management directly, removing public dialogue does little to build transparency or trust, especially given the nature of the violations. If you're going to operate three restaurants on the Marietta Square, food safety, consistency, and accountability should be non-negotiable. This feels like a business that has leaned too heavily on its reputation for far too long.

Yelp
If you've ever considered trying the Afternoon Tea at Mac's, DO IT!! This was such a fun experience and would be perfect for any occasion like Mother's Day, Birthday's or simply "just because." There were so many special touches, including a reserved card at your table. A side note: you must make reservations. The Afternoon Tea dates are listed on the Mac's Chophouse website. You are first brought scones, crumpets and your choice of tea, followed by a three-tier tray of sandwiches, quiche, and desserts. Everything was incredible. You can also add a bottle of champagne to your experience for $30. It's $65 per person and well worth it for all you receive.

Yelp
How in the world does a steakhouse run out of hamburger meat at 3 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon?? Poor planning, bad kitchen management, etc. Appetizers are just average, and the oysters are teeny tiny. Service was good, but that's not worth much when a steakhouse doesn't have the meat for a hamburger or a chopped steak.....

Yelp
Macs Chophouse is a wonderful restaurant on the square - Great service and wonderful entree choices from Salad to steak and seafood

Yelp
Food is always great and the service matches the food. Incredible staff and food every time. Great bar and bartenders, managers and RAs.

Yelp
64 Health Inspection rating. Last several years rating has not been much higher. You would expect much better with the prices they charge.

Yelp
We went to Mac's for my fiancés birthday and it was the most incredible experience from the moment we walked in the door. The host was so kind, and even told him happy birthday (which just shows they notice these things on the reservations), our servers David & Brooke were absolutely incredible. We also had Max bring us our food and he was so friendly. We got the tomahawk ribeye to share, a wedge salad, pimento cheese fritters & the trio of sides. We decided to forego dessert and they brought us a special dessert on the house for his birthday. They were extremely attentive, never let our drinks go empty and everything tasted delicious. We definitely will be back very soon!!!

Yelp
Great food, great service, recommend this place for a great steak. We had a decent sized work dinner (14) and they accommodated us comfortably on the 2nd floor, never an empty glass, food was spot on. Went with the 12oz barrel cut filet with Oscar topping, thick, juicy, great cut of beef.

Yelp
Drinks are the only reason I'm giving more than 1 star. I ordered the sea bass last night and it was disgusting! Not only was it NOT cooked it tasted rotten. Like if you leave fish out on the counter for an entire day. Won't be returning here. I don't think the food is worth the price. If you do come definitely try the drinks!

Hollie R.

Yelp
Mac's Chophouse on the Square is such a beautiful place. My husband and I love sitting at the bar and grabbing one of their specialty drinks--it's one of our favorite ways to unwind or celebrate when we are in town. From the moment you step inside until the moment you say goodbye, they truly pay attention to every detail and make you feel completely spoiled. The food is absolutely delicious, whether we're just stopping in for appetizers and oysters or staying for a full dinner. Their seafood is amazing and always fresh, and the steak is always cooked to perfection. Hands down, Mac's Chophouse is the best place to eat. We can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
Dined here a few days before Christmas... got sick.. very sick the day after and couldn't even enjoy Christmas with my family... spent over $300 just to feel like sh** the next day. The 63 U and follow up 83 B health scores confirmed how dirty that place is... take your $ elsewhere

Yelp
We went out to celebrate my birthday, and Hubs selected this restaurant. It was located in the Marietta Square. It was bustling with people and parking was somewhat challenging, but we eventually found one in the parking garage. The restaurant was nicely decorated and pleasant. Our server was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu, and she was very accommodating about my seafood & fish allergies. The food, ehhhh, subpar at best. The "dry-aged" steak was bland, so were the mashed potatoes and asparagus. It's no place we'd revisit. It was nice walking around the square during the Christmas season, but that was the highlight, unfortunately.

Yelp
Love this place and the raw bar next to it. Top quality steakhouse outside the perimeter.

Yelp
Food is fabulous, service was great. However, a bit on the pricey side. But that's expected every where now.

Yelp
My wife and I took her mother to Mac's Chiphouse for a late dinner on Mother's Day. The ambience is really nice in the restaurant. I ordered a glass of wine and the spinalis steak. It was cooked really well. We shared Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. They were all season well. I will say our waiter was not the best however, I would return.

Yelp
After arriving in Georgia and settling into our hotel room, we went into town to grab a bite to eat. Mac's Chophouse was one of the first few places we saw and decided to give it a shot! It seemed busy as we entered the restaurant but we got seated right away! It was for a party of 4 and we got the option to be seated inside or outside, as it was a beautiful day we chose outside seating! The staff were great! They were very friendly and helpful! They didn't mind answer any questions we had and even provided recommendations on their favorite items on the menu! Upon being seated we all ordered drinks. My friend and I ordered Espresso Martinis while our boyfriends ordered Smoked Old Fashions. This was single handedly the BEST Espresso Martini I have had!! Other Espresso Martinis you can taste more alcohol than espresso. This martini had the perfect balance, you could actually taste the espresso. My friend and I were pleasantly surprised! We enjoyed them so much we ordered a second round. Our boyfriends also had a second round of the old fashions! For appetizers we ordered the Crispy homemade pimiento cheese fritters and these were so yummy! We enjoyed them so much we put in a second order of it! My friend and I ordered the Macs Twin Patty Burger. I love a good cheesy burger and that exactly what I received when I ordered this burger! The patties were juicy and cooked exactly as i ordered it! I truly enjoyed this burger! My friend also really enjoyed it and she agreed when I told her this is one of the better burgers I've had in a while. The side order of French fries was DELICIOUS! It was so nice to get nice and fresh hot French fries! It's not common to get that in restaurants now! My boyfriend ordered the Extra Crispy Chicken Sandwich and he really enjoyed it! I had a bite and it was very good! I loved the crunch you get while biting into the Sandwich! The bun was nice and fresh and not over toasted. My friend's boyfriend ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab cake! He enjoyed it but was slightly expecting a bigger crab cake! Aside from not really knowing what to expect for the size of the crab cake he said it was delicious! The next time we are in Georgia we will certainly be returning to Mac's Chophouse! I'm looking forward too it!

Yelp
Came in for lunch on Christmas Eve and everything from the food, service and overall experience was nothing short of Amazing!

Yelp
It's in a prime spot. It has a ton of ambiance. But the food is meh, and the drinks aren't special. The service can be uneven. Some servers trip over themselves to be gracious. Others act like you are a nuisance, just taking up space. I ordered French onion soup -- good, I would order it again. The wedge salad, however, was awful. How do you mess up a wedge? With bacon that tastes like it's been soaked in smoky flavoring. And with runny, flavorless dressing. The beef Wellington bites were good, according to my husband, and the Caesar was OK.im a little nervous about ordering undercooked/ rare/raw food there because of past health ratings. I wish this place was great. I wish it was worthy of the restaurant space. It just isn't. Marietta deserves better.
google avatar

Jessa L.

Yelp
My visit to Mac's Chophouse was pretty much a one-and-done experience. While the ambience was nice--elegant and inviting--it didn't make up for the lackluster service and food quality. It took almost 10 minutes just to be acknowledged by the hostess and seated, which set the tone for the evening. When I finally ordered, I asked for my steak to be cooked medium, but it arrived rare. At a place like this, I expected them to get the steak temperature right, but that wasn't the case. Overall, while the atmosphere was pleasant, the experience was quite disappointing.

Yelp
Not a restaurant critic by any means. But here goes. Party of two at the bar during lunch Service: Good one on one but big congregation of waitstaff at restrooms discussing politics. Food: Raw oysters good but can't mess those up. Mignonette perfect. Burger over seasoned. Over cooked. Bun under toasted so disintegrated. Fried egg on top overcooked. Burger not blackened. English muffin cut in half vertically and not toasted inside and no butter. Arugula salad over dressed. Wagyu steak was good. Cleanliness: Lots of dust. Bathroom has vent next to toilet and is dust covered. Light fixture in bathroom has cobwebs. Arch of bar dusty. Overall:Meh. Particularly for the price.

Yelp
This place is located in Marietta Square. There is ample parking, but it is always packed. Walking into the restaurant, you are immediately greeted. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I love that the lighting is cozy and makes you feel you're on a date. They do have a happy hour from Mon- Thurs. I ordered a lemon drop, the Roasted Alabama Oysters and the Lobster Bisque. My aunt ordered the French onion soup and the Beef Wellington bites. Everything was amazing! I would rate it 10 out of 10. Definitely will be back soon.

Yelp
We enjoyed this dining experience. It's all about the aesthetics of this restaurant, just a vibe all on its own. We tried a few dishes and I'll say stick with the steak when at a chophouse. That's my bad. The extra crispy springer MTN chicken was perfectly crispy, but in my opinion and my wife's it needed more salt/seasoning salt. The steak with the gravy on it was . We also enjoyed the balsamic brussel sprouts so much we ordered twice. The Mac n cheese was perfect and the mashed potatoes are very creamy. The staff is very attentive, helpful, and generous. On Father's Day my waiter gave us a complimentary homemade cherry ice cream lava cake type of dessert. Wowser. We'll certainly be back and I'll get the steak next time. Great spot for a special evening.

Yelp
It was a good meal. The service was excellent with a very knowledgeable server that did a great job of handling a decent sized party. The table started with an appetizer medley -- shrimp, fried oysters, oysters on the half shell, fried pimento cheese and crab cakes. They were good standard appetizers. I had a spring salad, asparagus and mushrooms as sides to accompany the shrimp and grits entree. The star of the day was the spring salad. It was dressed with a tasty balsamic vinaigrette. Candied walnuts, craisins and apples mixed in. very well to give a great balance of sweet and savory. The shrimp and grits was ok. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the grits were a little mealy, I was hoping they would be more creamy. The dish was a little on the sweet side and a dash of salt would have helped balance it. The wine choice was excellent. All in all a good meal but a little pricey for food. 5 star service for sure.

Yelp
Kinda spendy, so for us, not an everyday thing, but you can't beat this place for special occasions. Great good and impeccable service! I don't think there's any thing on the menu I'd caution against.

Yelp
I had to take a moment and send a quick note of thanks to the entire team at Macs. I've thrown a lot of parties. Typically, you can reflect on something and find an area that fell a bit flat or didn't quite show up the way you thought it would. Not only is that NOT the case here, but it's the complete opposite. Aside from the space being so great, the food quality, prep time and delivery being outstanding (no surprise there! It always is), the attention to detail with the special cocktail and the addition of the fillet choice on the menu which we weren't expecting, and the amazing handling of the group from arrival to departure, I don't know that I could have asked for more. However, you delivered more. Coming from a service background my entire life, I say this from the most truthful perspective from which I can approach it. I have NEVER seen service at the level Jesus and team were able to executed at yesterday. Never an empty glass, never an empty plate, never an empty SMILE from any of them. Kind, caring, considerate, and in touch with our groups needs from minute one. From Phil picking us up at the door and getting us to the room to the staff helping us out of the building when the night was over, it was impeccable from start to finish. I want to share this in hope that it gets back to the team with a most humble thank you for what you all did. My stepdaughter had a most memorable event, one I sense she'll look back on fondly for years to come, and that is because of each of you. Please extend our thanks to Phil, Jesus, the kitchen staff, the other waiters and bussers, and of course to you for all you did I did want to add one more thing here. Our guests couldn't stop talking about it either. Not only did they tell us at the party how great the service was, but many sent texts the next day. I think you gained a few more customers for Mac's, and I am sure they may have higher expectations now when they go to their "regular" restaurants. This will not be the last event we hold at your restaurant. I encourage anyone who needs a picture perfect event, to go to Macs on Marietta Square.

Yelp
Going to Mac's for a date night was an excellent choice and I can't wait to go back. The ambiance and the service were both great and our server Rado was excellent. We had a reservation and were seated immediately and had very quick service. For dinner we shared the Beef Wellington bites and the Mac's Chophouse signature sides trio with Spinach, Mac & Cheese, and Brussels Sprouts, all of which were delicious. For dinner we each had a steak that we both enjoyed and also loved the side of Aligot potatoes. After dinner our server brought us a complimentary dessert which was amazing. Overall I think Mac's is an excellent place for a special occasion or celebration and I look forward to coming back!

Yelp
My wife and I decided to explore the Marietta Square for Mother's Day, and Mac's Chophouse was one of our stops. Overall, it was decent--not a bad experience by any means, but definitely left us wanting more, especially considering the number of steakhouses that raise the bar a bit higher. I started off with the Smoked Old Fashioned, which was flavorful and impressively potent--so much so that I ordered a second. The real stars of the night, though, were the appetizers. We had the crab cakes and the blackened shrimp, and both were dynamic in flavor. The crab cakes, in particular, were generously packed with crab and didn't feel filler-heavy at all. For entrées, I had the 16 oz Delmonico Ribeye, and my wife ordered the Steak Frites. Both steaks were cooked perfectly to temperature, but unfortunately, both lacked seasoning. It felt like the kitchen focused heavily on execution but left the flavor behind. The same could be said for the mashed potatoes that accompanied my steak--great texture, but underwhelming taste. I added the Mac's Side Trio, which was a smart way to sample more of the menu. I chose the mac & cheese, crispy Brussels sprouts, and blistered asparagus. The Brussels sprouts were easily the best of the three--crispy, well-prepared, and flavorful. The other sides were just okay. In the end, I'd give Mac's Chophouse a solid 3.5 stars. It's better than average, and you won't regret going, but with so many great steak spots in the area, I can't say I'm in a rush to return.

Yelp
The place is cool, the location is great and we had great service, but this is the second time we go and won't go back. After looking at the price of each plate, we had very high expectations of what we would be eating. I don't mind paying a high price for a well made dish, but everything we tried was flooded in sauces and not particularly tasty. I love oysters but their baked oysters were super salty and had so much sauce and stuff on them, I couldn't taste the oyster. Same goes for the shrimp appetizer and lobster bites, among other things. It's over kill. Maybe if they cut down on ingredients and lowered their prices, I would go back...

Yelp
I loved the water and the service was great! The food was so so- a little overpriced I got the oysters and Wagu on the brunch menu

Yelp
I came in October for my birthday and made a reservation online which was fairly easy. We were seated pretty fast and had an amazing waiter. He accommodated every request we had and apologized when he wasn't able to get to us faster even though he was quick! The seating itself was also upstairs, and we had little candles as light which was nice! For the food, my sister got lobster Mac and cheese I believe, I got steak frites, and my mom got shrimp and grits. We also got three starters, one of them being a charcuterie board which I very much so enjoyed and the other I believe was blackened shrimp? and the last was crab cakes. So because of the board I was kind of full so I ate a few of my fries and then almost all of the steak because it was DELICIOUS! It had a wonderful peppery taste to it and I like pepper so I really enjoyed it. My mom said her shrimp and grits was a little bland, and my sister enjoyed all of her food. She was the one who ate the crab cakes, which she said was nice but nothing to rave about. We also got complimentary mashed potatoes which was nice! We also got a few desserts, the free chocolate brownie was AMAZING, the lemon cake was a bit too sour for me (I'm not a fan of sour), and my sister got the bread pudding and she said the ice cream on it was DELICIOUS. Overall great experience! I will definitely go back!

Yelp
I'm feeling after yesterday's experience that Mac's is overrated. Ordered the Alabama oysters they failed to mention on the menu that there is some type of aioli in the mixture and my husband does not eat mayo. He instantly spit it out. My grilled shrimp in a BBQ beer butter was so so. The seafood boil from the raw bar was good. I'll give our service a 3.7/5 I'm not sure if I will return anytime soon.

Laura K.

Yelp
Booked Thanksgiving dinner for 10 at Mac's and had a horrible experience. Bad service with cold food that took hours to be served. Seated at 5:30 and took 1.5 hours before we even got salad and soup. After 3 hours, we finally asked for our dessert to go. We had made reservations weeks ahead and told them we would have a wheelchair and was assured there was a chairlift but upon arrival, it did not work and we had to carry my mother in law up two flights of stairs. Not one manager or server checked on us or apologized. Midway through the meal, we told a male manager upstairs what happened and asked if it would be working when we needed to leave. He said it should be but never apologized nor did he come back to check. At over $100 per person, we certainly expected a better experience. Won't ever go back.

Yelp
We came here for post Valentine's day Valentine's dinner because who likes a crowd? Anyway, they were still cute with Valentine's entrees (a pasta special, chateaubriand for 2, and maybe 1-2 others) My husband had the doctor is in & the Macs old fashioned (makers mark) & he really liked both. The second came in a smoked glass and had a cool presentation. He was definitely tipsy by the end of the meal so I'm pretty sure they were both strong drinks not too bad... Around $13-15 ish each I had a mint lemonade spritzer ($4) and it was great! Would def order that again but their cocktails also looked delicious. They also have mocktails (mactails) but they didn't pique my interest This trip we got the chateaubriand, lobster Mac and banana cream pie We accepted the bread and I'm not sure if it was complimentary but if was delicious with honey and butter & a super soft yeast roll each! We ordered the chateaubriand medium but its a thick cut so definitely came out more medium rare/rare and they did cook it more for us because I'm pregnant so I only ended up eating the most cooked pieces they gave and my husband ate the more med rare side. It was delicious though and the bone marrow compound butter ($9) so worth it! The sauce it came with too was also amazing. I was dipping everything in it like the fried lobster, the potatoes, parsnips, everything The lobster Mac was SO good with a great cheese pull and tons of fried & baked lobster. Would 100% order this again The complimentary aligot potatoes were ok. Nothing exciting but they're complimentary so ‍ no cheese pull lol We were torn on dessert because they all sounded good so I looked up pics on yelp & the banana cream pie sold us. First of all, It was huge. Could split between 3-4 people post meal. It's like a whole small pie and it was so creamy, so flavorful yet not too sweet. Bruleed bananas on top, a banana mousse that could've been ice cream, flaky crust, meringue... A must try. Honestly I'm excited just thinking about eating the leftovers of this one. We didn't finish any of our food because it was a ton for 2 people Whole bill came out to $230 pre tip They do have a wheelchair lift but she said you had to walk a stair or two after it so not really handicap accessible. They're attached to the raw bar portion though so might be able to sit there if handicapped because the chophouse downstairs only has booths. Parking is not a breeze in the square if you don't want to pay but there are a ton of garages/lots in the area & street parking is always full.

Yelp
Ventured to Marietta Square for brunch at Mac's Chophouse. Love the space. The decor is inviting and the building has so much character! Stuart was our waiter and he was great! We were seated upstairs near the windows. Great spot. Everyone enjoyed their food. We shared the oysters to start. Featured here are: Crab Benedict - a good serving of jumbo lump crab meat....delicious Steak & Eggs served with fingerling potato and chimichurri Creme brûlée - decadent Street parking and paid lots are available. If you're in the Marietta area, make a rsvp soon!

Yelp
Wow, how did I not know about this place? I came with a girlfriend to celebrate our birthdays, and it was fantastic. Our server was great! We started with the crispy homemade frites, and they were so yummy! The appetizer bread--OMG, so warm and delicious! I had the Delmonico, and it didn't disappoint. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts and lobster mac, both excellent choices. If you're going during peak times, be prepared to drive around the square a few times to find a parking spot. I look forward to returning!

Yelp
We had high hopes for Mac's Chophouse in Marietta--a local favorite known for its elevated Southern fare and polished service. Unfortunately, our lunch experience fell flat on nearly every level. From the start, the service felt indifferent. Our waitress never introduced herself, so we were left awkwardly addressing her as "Miss" every time we needed something--which, unfortunately, was often. She floated past our booth repeatedly, never checking in or making eye contact, and getting basic items like a straw or our drinks took an unreasonably long time. My husband ordered the She Crab soup--an old-school favorite we'd heard good things about--as an appetizer. Naturally, we expected it before the main course. Instead, it arrived with the entrées... stone cold. While he waited for a hot replacement, another server tried to walk off with my chopped salad--so oblivious, you'd think he was clearing dirty dishes, not serving lunch. I had to stop him mid-turn. Eventually, the soup came out again--hot this time--but by then, his shrimp and grits had been taken back to the kitchen to "keep warm." I'm not a chef, but I'd love to know how one keeps delicate seafood warm without overcooking it. The answer, sadly, was that you don't. The dish came back lukewarm and rubbery. My chopped salad, one of the few meatless options on the menu, was nothing to write home about--just chilled soggy greens with a few lackluster olives and Marcona Almonds. For a restaurant that prides itself on upscale dining and Southern hospitality, our visit to Mac's was anything but. We expected a refined lunch and attentive service. What we got felt like a slow, disorganized afterthought.

Yelp
Mac's Chophouse gets a solid four stars out of me. The only thing holding me back from giving this place five stars is there are a lot of great steakhouses in metro Atlanta and Mac's struck me as a hair beneath them. That said, for the City of Marietta and Marietta Square, I think this is a fantastic steakhouse and I recommend it. Having worked in Marietta from 2001 to 2020, and returning to Marietta regularly since then, off the top of my head, I do think Mac's is currently the best steakhouse in town. Mac's opened on Marietta Square on June 19, 2020. The restaurant replaced decades-old restaurant and bar Shillings on the Square, which closed on November 18, 2019: https://bit.ly/3kO8eOM. Mac's owners are the McCrays, who are part of/associated with the McCray's Taverns around metro Atlanta, plus other restaurants like The Mill Kitchen and Bar in Roswell. Mac's, however, operates as a separate business from that restaurant group (LEAD Hospitality Group). The old Shillings space was completely gutted and redone. Inside and out, the current space looks outstanding. This is a modern, upscale steakhouse without the stuffy vibe that older, more established steakhouses might have. That said, this is still a classy, sophisticated place and there is a dress code: https://bit.ly/3wOb60Z. My OpenTable reservation confirmation email had the following note: "Mac's has a BUSINESS CASUAL Dinner Dress Code Policy in order to maintain an enjoyable environment for ALL guests. We thank you in advance for following these guidelines which will be enforced at our restaurants." Mac's uses OpenTable for easy reservations. As a consumer, I like OpenTable because I earn free dining points which can be used to redeem discounts at select restaurants or other things like Amazon gift cards. Over the years, I've redeemed my points for both. It's worked out great, getting rewarded for dining out. OpenTable does come at a cost to business owners, but from a consumer standpoint, I'm for it. I don't get perks like that from, for example, Resy. We visited for dinner on an ordinary Wednesday and it was busy. We were seated in the upstairs dining room. Mac's has multiple bars and dining rooms. Upstairs, I saw a sliding door for "The Loft." I wonder what that's all about. This is a fairly spacious restaurant. I know they can handle large group dinners of 20+ people (and I'm sure way more than that). Here, it's white tablecloths and formally-dressed staff (e.g., aprons, bowties). Below is a list of items I ordered/tried. Prices shown were Mac's prices if we paid in cash. Since we paid with card, a 3.5% "non-cash adjustment" was added to our bill (essentially a credit card fee). Starters * Crispy Homemade Pimento Cheese Fritters with bacon marmalade and comeback sauce ($12) * Roasted Alabama Oysters with smoked andouille, spinach, and Gruyere ($16) Chophouse * 16-ounce Prime Dry-Aged KC Strip ($79) - added Caramelized Foie Gras on top (+$16) Sharable Sides * Aligot Potatoes (complimentary with a la carte steaks) * Blistered Asparagus, shallots, EVOO, sea salt ($12) * Sauteed Baby Spinach ($12) Desserts ($10 each) * Georgia Apple, cranberry crustada, sabayon gelato * Warm Chocolate Bread Pudding, peanut butter mousse, chocolate sauce Smoked Cocktails * Smoked Old Fashioned ($13) - High West Double Rye Whiskey, Angostura and orange bitters, simple syrup, flamed orange, Amarena cherry Overall, I thought everything was wonderful. I asked for my KC Strip to be cooked medium rare. I thought it was a tad overcooked. My friend got the 8-ounce Spinalis "Rib Cap" ($69), also ordered medium rare, and it looked perfect. My strip was served bone-in, with the meat neatly sliced into bite-size pieces. I appreciated that. The Foie Gras was a terrific "enhancement" for my steak. Rich and buttery. I recommend it. The apps and sides were solid. The Pimento Cheese Fritters were addictive and expectedly heavy. The Aligot Potatoes (mashed potatoes with cheese) were smooth and creamy. The desserts were delicious. I thought both the Georgia Apple and the Chocolate Bread Pudding were equally decadent and delectable. For the latter, the chocolate sauce is poured at the table which adds to the dining experience. It's fun. I ordered the Smoked Old Fashioned, partly because of its smoky presentation. However, my drink order came late and without the smoky pour, so that was disappointing. At least the drink was tasty. Rande H was our server and he was excellent. He was polite, professional, and attentive. Free parking is available on the Square. However, in my experience over the past 20+ years, you have to get lucky to find a spot. I've had better luck in the free municipal lot on Mill St near North Marietta Pkwy NW, though since the opening of Marietta Square Market in 2019, parking in that lot has become more difficult as well. Finally, you can also park on Church St for free. Note: The City does enforce the signed 2-hour limits from 8:00pm to 6:00pm.

Yelp
The food was so good. We went on July 4 with 6 adults and 2 toddlers. I had salmon and pesto mashed potatoes-- wonderful. Others had burgers and I will say I'd go back just for the chicken sandwich. We all said it was awesome! I do not suggest the steak salad since it was maybe $24 with very little greens and 3 small strips of steak. Everything was great and we will go back!

Yelp
Another great meal tonight, our servers were outstanding, attentive and professional. The filet's were done to perfection and the mash potatoes were smooth and buttery. Great dinner, great job Mac's.

Yelp
Average 4 stars: 5 stars for the food but 3 stars for the service. I live out of town but my sister and her family live locally. We love having dinner at Mac's when I visit but on this occasion, we were disappointed that Mac's did not meet their usually high level of service. First, my sister received a voice mail earlier today reminding her of the dress code for dining upstairs. As dinner at Mac's is a special occasion, we were already planning to dress up. After we were seated, we were surprised to see more than one table where patrons were wearing t-shirts or track suits. We wondered if those patrons also were advised of the dress code. Regardless, we moved on to perusing the menu. We apparently had multiple servers for the meal as it was rather busy, but even so, it took 40 minutes for us to be able to place our meal order; this was only after one person at our table flagged the server to say we were ready to order. When water was poured, one person in our party of five was overlooked, and when the salads were served, another person was not asked if they wanted fresh-ground pepper. As we were finishing our entrees, we overheard another server informing the table adjacent to ours of the evening specials, but we never had the opportunity to hear them prior to placing our orders. That said, the steaks were fantastic, as was the banana cream pie we had for dessert, We will return but we hope that next time, the service is back up to the high standards we've come to expect at Mac's.

Yelp
This is our second visit. Quality for cash, a hands down disappointment. Every single item is over sauced to cover the general lack of food quality. Overall, horrible. Won't be back again.

Yelp
We went for my wife's birthday and had very high expectations. However, the overall experience was just okay. Not bad by any means, but not over the top either. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice and the historic building has a lot of charm. The hostess situation needs some attention. For starters there was no one to greet us as we entered. It was unclear who to check in with and where to go. A couple that arrived after us sort of pushed their way past us and found the hostess who let them sit at the bar. The restaurant was busy but not packed. The hostess seemed preoccupied and not paying attention to who was there. Finally another young woman noticed at least 3 parties standing there and got us situated and took us upstairs to the dining room. Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable. The prices are on the high end. Cheapest steak on the menu was $68 for an 8oz filet. They did have a 6oz Wagyu filet special for $70 or $90 when paired with a lobster tail. My wife and I chose the Wagyu but we're not fans of lobster so we passed on that. Our 13 year son ordered the $68 filet. He was a little overwhelmed by the price but I assured him it was okay. Our 10 year old daughter ordered the chicken tenders from the kids menu. She never really eats anything so I can't comment on how the chicken tenders and fries tasted but they looked good. My son ordered his steak medium but it came out a little rare. He was a trooper and ate the whole thing without a complaint. As he should because the steaks here are excellent. My Wagyu filet was perfect. Not over seasoned, just melt in your mouth steak as expected. The steaks come with a shareable plate of mashed potatoes which were also excellent. I love mashed potatoes and these were some of the best I have ever had. We also ordered a trio of 3 smaller sides to share for $19. Not a bad deal. However, the Mac and cheese had lobster in it. We didn't order lobster Mac and cheese.and it was disappointing. The creamed corn was very good and the mushrooms were just okay. My wife enjoyed the mushrooms but I thought they were over seasoned. I love mushrooms but these were more like stems. We split a Cesar salad. Still a good size portion and the salad was fine. Bottle beer was actually reasonably priced at $6. My wife's Chardonnay was $19 for a 9 oz pour. Kids sodas came in a glass bottle. They were Mexican Coke products. Probably for the ambiance and the pure cane sugar. That's my guess. They were $4 each. The waiter brought us a complimentary desert for wife's birthday which was nice. They also brought us a regular Mac and cheese to take home with us to make up for the lobster mix up. My biggest complaint is the 3.5% credit card fee. I get it, credit card fees are a huge expense for businesses but they also offer a convenience for the restaurant as well as to the customer. It's just annoying and took away from the overall experience.

Yelp
This is the perfect spot for business meetings over lunch if you're in Marietta. Mac's offers white table cloth dining and fine service. It's affordable, too. By the way, I recommend Stu's section - he's very friendly and attentive. I've only ever visited Mac's Chophouse with a business party and it is consistently good. I always come with a reservation because it is busy. Located on Marietta Square, parking can be tricky, so patience is key. This time I captured a photo of the menu. I ordered Blackened salmon citrus salad with a side of fries. Delicious! My colleague ordered the fish and chips; it was such a generous portion, so she took half home in a to go box. I highly recommend! I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Took kids to celebrate their 5th anniversary. Great cocktails. Service was Very good. I had prime my strip Which was cooked Perfectly. Table also had dry Aged ribeye, cap steak and she crab soup. All got praises. Steaks come with potato side, as much as you want, but also orders brussel sprouts and spinach. All goods. They comped a cherry ice cream /cookie dessert that the kids loved. Only downside is the usual steakhouse prices! I would recommend and Will return.

Yelp
My friends and I made a reservation weeks in advance for a group of 16-20 people. When we arrived, the staff split us into groups of ten, which was fine-we were still excited and ready to have a good time. The food was actually good, and us girls enjoyed ourselves....until it was time to leave. Our waitress completely disappeared, and we didn't see her for over 45 minutes. We had another reservation to get to, so the ladies decided to leave and head to our next stop, leaving the guys to settle the checks. BIG MISTAKE. The bills were a TOTAL mess- items we NEVER ordered were on there, and the whole payment process became a frustrating ordeal. One of the guys asked to speak to a manager, who briefly showed up..... and then disappeared too. No resolution, no apology, nothing. Again, the food was decent, but the service was so disorganized and unprofessional that it completely ruined the experience. We won't be coming back. Mangers: please get your staff in check.

Yelp
Service and food as well as drinks were excellent. Highly recommended to all for all occasions.
